Al Sharpton Fires Back at Lil Wayne: "He doesn't even say anything substantive."

By Ismael AbduSalaam

Lil Wayne has an unlikely verbal opponent on the heels of the phenomenal first day sales of Tha Carter III.

On the track “Misunderstood,” Wayne blasts Sharpton’s civil rights
work as fraudulent and compares his tactics to boxing promoter Don
King:

“You see, you are no MLK/ You are no Jesse Jackson/ You are nobody to me/ You’re just another Don King with a perm/ Just a little more political/ And that just means you a little more un-human/ Than us humans/ And now let me be human by saying/ F**k Al Sharpton and anyone like him”

Sharpton contacted Current TV's blog The Daily Fix and offered his own retort to the superstar MC.

“While some of the rappers don’t like the fact that Rev. Sharpton has been leading marches against the degradation of women in music, a Gallup poll released last week revealed that Rev. Sharpton has a 50% approval rate among African-Americans. So why dignify a response to one rap artist who doesn’t even say anything substantive," Rev. for Sharpton said.

Rev. Shaprton recently made headlines for leading the movement against Nas’ new album, previously called Nigger.

The album, a concept project detailing the use of the word in popular
culture, was condemned by Sharpton and threats of boycotts resulted in the album now being untitled.

Last year, Sharpton also engaged in a brief but bitter war of words with rapper/activist David Banner over censorship in Hip Hop music.

Tha Carter III was released on June 10th, and is expected to sell over
800,000 copies by next week.

Yeah when I heard that song I cut it off. Wayne out of line for that. Al Sharpton would be the first one there to defend him if Wayne was hit 50 times with shots or even one for that matter.

We cannot allow an atmosphere of disrespect for our leaders to grow. It started with Barbershop.

How he is going to go at Al but remain silent towards 50.

Well I don't support both on this topic. Nowadays no one has respect for the older people so I think Lil Wayne and David Banner was wrong for saying f*ck All Sharpton. The same people that were wrong for saying f*ck Oprah. Not right. These people have been where you're tryna go and they've contributed so much to Blacks as a whole (Oprah more than Al). At the same time I disagree with Al's attacks on hip hop because I feel like in light of Don Imus & Michael Richardson, alot of leaders put it on rap music instead of addresses the deeper seeded issues of racism. I was very upset about that, but the same way I would'nt say, f*ck my grandmother, or f*ck Maya Angelou.. is the same why I would'nt disrespect a Black leader, no matter how fugasi they are.

I can't say Al Sharpton is entirely wrong, but I feel Wayne in one aspect...I don't like his tactics. He causes more turmoil and confusion, (in the case of Hip Hop censorship), than healing with the way he just attacks issues. I can't and won't say 'fuck Al Sharpton', because he's done TOO much for the civil rights movement, but I can say that he needs to find another way to approach the subject at hand.

Also, for all of you who blindly follow that celebrity status, grow the fuck up and GET REAL. Just as Wayne criticizes Sharpton for not being more formal, he's doing the exact same shit. Look at the whole situation and think for ya damn self. IF YOU WONDER WHY THE HELL THE OLDER GENERATION COMES AT OUR FUCKING HEADS LIKE THEY DO, THIS IS AN OBVIOUS ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION. EVERYTIME THEIRS A PROBLEM, INSTEAD OF JUST ADDRESSING THAT SHIT LIKE ADULTS, IT'S A FUCK YOU...but, that's just how I look at it.

@ KingJafee and everyone else

Yes I have noticed the evolution of the so-called "commercialized black leader" during the post MLK era. But what we can't deny is the fact Al Sharpton stands up for us. That does not mean he is a saint, for no one is without sin. He makes his fair share of mistakes. But, he is out there in the front line speaking for Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo, Gavin Cato, Yusef Hawkins, Michael Griffith and he fought for US alongside of the honorable Dr. King. The Carter III may be a good body of work but it definitely won't inspire you to be a better man, Al Sharpton can and has for many years, and for that he has earned my respect.

of course he has problems, many of which yall mentioned.  and i'm not mad at wayne for his right to critical thought.  but at the end of the day, this is all just talk.  i'd rather watch what people do.  in other words, al, if you really bout something, respond to weezy's remarks with more positive work.  weezy, if you really bout something, do more than write a rhyme, and lead by example.

it's probably hard for you to understand cuz you're white (not trying to clown), but black folks are a unique case. we're in dire need of leaders.

besides, there's two types of people in the world.  chiefs, and indians.

history shows us that leaders inspire and rally the masses to achieve. moses led his folks out the wilderness.  jesus led by example.

just because people don't have one at the moment, doesn't mean there isn't a need for a strong leader. using white people as an example isn't a good measuring stick, cuz ya'll already control the world and keep everyone else under your heels.  leaders are usually necessary for a revolt.  for setting things in balance.  for uplifting the downtrodden.  remember, the history of all society is the history of class struggle.  whites aint strugglin.  those that are need someone (or more than one) to lead them.

i feel ya, in some regards, sometimes a leader is definatly needed to inspire and to work toward a goal and im white but im also irish and my great grandparents were slaves to the english then my greatgrandparents sent my grandparents here to get away from that only to be treated like dirt...

but i think in terms of the black commuinty, you have a leader in a seemingly great guy in obama, and hopefully he can be the leader of this country.  I cant stand these repulican assholes only interested in money and oil. I mean mccain said the other day sumpin about bringing the troops home isnt even too important ...what? But anyway i think everyone has to lead themselves you cant be dependent on some savior that could never show up. And if a so-called savior shows up and he stirs everyone up togather and starts to make everyone think how he thinks then who is to say that person is even right? it could be the devil in disguise, the anti-christ and shit! But people are waiting for this savior so when they think he is here they will follow without thinking, thats the shit that scares me. Thats why i dont look for a leader i lead myself. Cause thats were it starts. No matter where you are or what race you are. But im not naive  there are many different circumstances for many different people. But to put all your faith into one person is wrong, you should have faith in yourself and if eveyone was like that and can find that within themselves then things would be better.

Co-sign that my dude. Wayne could've approached Sharpton better than that, but when you're higher than I don't know what your cognitive skills and reasoning ability diminish drastically.

When I was listening to Waynes rant I said to myself "damn why is the engineer recording this? They actually kept this as part of the song? Clearly son is high as a kite!"

I know Sharpton prolly was laughing at the comments, especially when Wayne said "they rather speculate than informate, if that's a word lol".

Sharpton has been seen as someone who shows up only when the cameras are there in abundance, but at least he does speak up for the community. Now I don't vouch for Mr. Sharpton in any way cuz I feel he's shady IMO, but I'm not gonna disrespect the man.

But why is it only when something outlandish happens the man wants to march and what have you.

Not to change the subject but IMO Bill Cosby fits the "leader" role because he goes to the root of the problems with his own people first not only always pointing at the "others" who have set up the situation for what it is. As I tell the youngins on my block everyday "you can do better, you just have to choose to".

Shaprton is a joke.  There are a lot more issues that a true black leader would be worried about before the censorship of an art form.  Let's see you tackle institutional racism, like the next phase of Brother King's Civil Rights Movement was aiming for before he got rubbed out, before you help further segment a population that hasn't been together in decades.  Al Sharpton does nothing of substance unless it furthers his exposure to the masses.  I find him to be a joke just like Bill Cosby and all the other older blacks who think the way to tackle a problem is to attack what results from it rather then the actual causes.  Black leader?  Nigga definitely not a leader of mine!

I really don't know how to call this one.  I will say that I don't favor many of Al Sharpton's so-called movements.  And check him out...he actually stooped and responded to Wayne's comments by bashing him?  He's supposed to set an example of how to lead!

At the same time, I wish these youngsters would show a lil' more respect for our elders....AND looking at the picture as a whole, I wish black people were more united.  Back in the 90s they called it black-on-black crime, today its called "the have vs. the have nots" and "the old vs. the young"...but if you look at it close enough it's still black-on-black crime.  Neither Lil' Wayne or Al Sharpton have major credibility in their industries...I think they would do much better by uniting and making something positive happen.

That's why you gotta take your hat off to cats like Dr. Cornell West who actually reached out to hip hop by orchestrating a collaboration album.

Nas who is proley one of the most socially active artist in the game as far as his lyrics... If he titled his album NiGGER - please believe it will have a message - Mr. Sharpton.

With that said - he obviously knows very little about Nas or Hip Hop in general - to go at Nas without reaching out to him first and see exactly what the content of the album would consist of....

As far as Wayne - maybe thats exactly why he went in on Mr. Sharpton. But I hope he stands behind his words.

So Wayne said Fuck Al Sharpton, what's the big deal?  By that, I mean is he wrong for sayin Fuck The "Reverend" Al Sharpton.  I been reading peoples comments and all I keep seeing is Massa Sharpton is a civil rights leader and a bunch of other bullshit.  Yeah back in the civil rights movement he might have been a prodominant figure, but what has the NIGGA done lately?  I give dude credit for some of the stuff he's done, but seriously the guy is a joke.  First off, how in the hell can u honestly take a BLACK MAN serious that wears a damn PERM?  Secondly it doesn't take a geneous to notice that Sharpton does what he does for the MONEY and PUBLICITY.  This guy is no black leader of mine and he shouldn't be one of yours either.  We got Sean Bell and Jena 6 cases going on around the country daily, but this NIGGA ain't showing up unless it's FLASHING LIGHTS, and CAMERAS around.  But truthfully even though Al Sharpton is as fake as a $3 bill, this dude ain't to blame.  We can't place the blame on nobody but us.  We gotta stop blaming rappers for the conditions of our neighboorhoods and the mindsets of our young black boys and girls, because the rappers ain't responsible for raising our kids, we are.  These cats are entertainers, that's it.  They not role models, or none of that bullshit.  It starts at home, we gotta start instilling better values in the home.  Teach are kids that it's more to life than the big house, the fancy car, and stacks on deck.  We gotta teach are young black men that our black women are our most precious treasure, and not just a piece of ass. We gotta understand that the only way our communities are gonna change is if we do it ourselves.  AIN'T NOBODY GONNA DO IT FOR US! Not no political figure, civil rights activists, and damn sure not a RAPPER!!  You know they say that slavery has been over for a while now, but I strongly disagree.  We fighting a new form of slavery now folks, It's blind to the naked eye, It's not physical anymore.  We suffering from mental slavery in this day and time, and if we, as Descendants of Africa living in America don't figure out a way to break these invisible mental shackles, we in for a long saaadddd asssss rrrrriiiiiiiddddeee.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I agree with Wayne FUCK AL SHARPTON! But I say fuck him for a different reason.  Fuck him for not being a true leader.  For not addressin the real issues we face as a people.  It ain't about no damn rap music.  You gotta change the midset first.  CHANGE THE MINDSET, AND THE REST WILL FOLLOW.

Just cuz it ain't on the news everytime the Reverand farts...that don't mean he ain't pootin.  What you need to do is go google National Action Network and see that the Rev and the NATIONAL network is CONSTANTLY grinding all over the country to bring positive change.  It ain't his fault that the media only highlights what they want you to see.  Do ya own homework before you go blindly cosignin that fool Wayne.  Be thankful that everytime there IS a high profile issue that Sharpton is there.  He could sit his behind at home and bitch about the problem and not take action...you know...like 90% of people do.

Or tell me were our neigborhoods better of before there
was Hip-Hop? ppl already too drugs in the 60s. PPl were
pimps in the 70s. There were always gunz in the hood
and our ppl killed each other. I think rap made things
better. And gave our ppl chances to do more jobs in
corporate businesses. It even brought down many racial
barriers. And the only reason why Sharpton dislikes our
culture is, he might loose his job because of it. Because
the better the world is, the less jobs he has to do. The
less sponsorship he gets and no media attention at all.

How dare we disrespect a man of the cloth! For what ? Because he tells us what we need to hear ?! This man,  marched with Dr. King, even Dr. King would say the exact same thing he is saying, and the shocking thing is that ya'll stupid ass niggers, would say the same thing about Dr. King that ya'll said to Sharpton. We must remember that the media only plays a percentage of whats going on in this world and most of it doesnt happen the way they portray it, so whenever you see that Rev. is rallying it is only because it was major enough for the MAN to give a fuck! I was watching Great Debaters and I wasn't alive back then, but it was just a beautiful look to see young black people take education so seriously, that everyday they would risk their life just to better themselves, nowadays, we don't give a fuck about learning, why ?! Because you favorite rapper didn't finish elementary school, and now he's one of the hottest niggas in the game! A brilliant beautiful young lady said that, back when black people were allowed to be educated, they jumped to the opportunity, "it was the end to mental slavery."
The fact of the matter is if you're a christian, you know damn well when you sin, you're sinning, point blank! I am sinning by using the words I am using now and I understand that But its funny how niggas get mad for being wrong, and knowing they're wrong, yet we justify it by saying, "oh Rev. sharpton, never come to my hood, he never fix things over here, he a media whore!" The Rev. is just saying that we are doing wrong, we are aware of it, but yet we say its how we were brought up, we see this shit everyday, and they aint helping us change this shit in my hood anyway. But I garantee that even if MLK himself came back and told us the same thing, and even came to the hood, to help us change the way we think, niggas would'nt fuck with him! Simple as that! Jesus himself could do the same, and Wayne would say F* Him also!

Someone benefits off you not respecting or understanding Al Sharpton and other outspoken elders, and they also benefit off of those elders not understanding the outspoken youth. Divide we fail.

Wayne really did not say not except commenting on his hair... Who cares about his hair... Did you get arrested for Sean Bell, did you march for Sean Bell.... Sean Bell was young and Al was their with several others putting down for the young brother.

The media hates Al Sharpton, anyone the media hates, you should try and hear what they got to say. Cuz most of us go off the BS they feed us, if you aint saw a video of him speaking and listen to the brother don't judge based on the news coverage of him.... The enemy of your enemy is your friend.

And I define enemy as anyone who stands against the your development financially, emotionally, and intellectually. And or one who stands against your family, friends, and community.

BUSTED: Caught on an FBI Surveillance Tape Discussing a Cocaine Deal
The television show HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel showed a 1983 FBI videotape in which Al Sharpton is seen talking about laundering drug money with former mobster Michael Franzese, a Mafioso-turned-undercover-FBI informant posing as a cocaine dealer. Now you might think something like this might be bad news for a presidential candidate, but to hear Sharpton talk about it, there's nothing unseemly about it.

Now, to be fair, no indictments were issued and the sting operation was never completed. But those are pretty thin excuses for a president of the United States. (At least he didn't blame a DUII on his political enemies.)

Sharpton got into this mess through his friendship with boxing promoter Don King, a longtime friend of his. Franzese, a former Colombo family captain, alleges that a South American drug dealer looking to launder money through boxing promotions approached him. According to Franzese,Sharpton was going to arrange a meeting between the dealer and King.

But the drug dealer was really an undercover FBI agent in a probe of boxing corruption. Sharpton claimed the tape was a "total attempt to set up and criminalize people," that it was leaked to scuttle his possible presidential bid, and that HBO distorted the evidence by showing only selected portions of the tape. He also clamed that a second tape existed that exonerated him.

Sharpton sued HBO for defamation and asked for $1 billion in damages. (As if he had a billion dollar reputation before the tape aired.) HBO Sports spokesman Ray Stallone described the suit as "so silly that it is unworthy of comment." Nothing has come of it since it was filed.

I agree man, who the hell is Lil Wayne to dis someone who has been doing for the people since his little ass was just a fetus. That's what's wrong with the youth today, we don't have any respect for anyone, barely ourselves. Sharpton!  I wish that all the energy criticizing someone who's trying do right is shifted to those who are needing help.  How many of you Sharpton critics are trying to make a change?  When some of ya'll help encourage teens to stay in school or do something to decrease the drop out rate of OUR BLACK MEN, holla at me...............

I am not going to listen a drug addicted rapper who barely has a clear thought in his head even though i am guilty of saying Fuck Al sharpton at times because he is not a leader but we are to busy tearing him down for him to adequitely become one and he is to busy persecuting one aspect of a problem with our community instead starting at the very beginning of it because you can't blame a rapper for what goes on how about the parents at home first or the consistently weakening public school systems so I want Al to leave the music alone until he hits all genres with some shit and Wayne needs to Chill off the Syrup and coke and have a strong argument or an explanation why he feels a certain way or don't speak on it all cuz people don't feel you saying just fuck anything without probable cause

Nex Gin said:

This incident highlights a couple of problems within our community.  First there is this misconception that black people NEED a leader.  That thought process immediately puts those people in the role of FOLLOWERS.  If anything, we don't need leaders, but positive role models.  Those role models must have leadership QUALITIES and be able to articulate from an unbiased, informed point of view.  We often put too much faith in a few people who we feel worthy of representing us.  In a "well oiled" machine all of the parts work together.  Even if one component is FUNCTIONALLY more important than the others, the machine will cease to work if the related components fail.  From that standpoint, we are all just as important to the cause as the "higher ranking" people.  It doesn't necessarily mean that we are flawless in our function, but we have to do our job as if we were as important as the main component.  We're all leaders.

With that said, Wayne may have some valid points, but the fact still remains that he has not contributed anything outside of drug induced ramblings with respect to the uplifting of the black community.  The image that he purveys is far more counter productive than anything  Al or Oprah has done or said.  That is not to say that Al and Oprah are flawless in character or "in tune" with the younger generation, but they are at least putting forth the effort to be positive role models and inspirations to aspiring black youths.  Wayne certainly has a right to his opinion, but he also has a responsibility to the millions of people who listen to his music and VALUE his opinion.  I may need to listen again, but I do not recall him backing up any of his ranting with solid reasons as to why he felt that way.  Anybody can say something like "Fuck Oprah...I can't stand that bitch."  Ok why don't you like Oprah? "awww nigga...she said she didn't like gangsta rap music".   Ok...can you provide a better reason than that ".....silence...crickets".   I do not always agree with Al's approach or grasp of the underlying issues, but I respect him for standing on the frontlines of the struggle.  Wayne...not so much.  David Banner was a little more descriptive about his beefs, but he still crossed the disrespect barrier to the point that it makes it look cool to the youth that look up to him.  I felt his point of view, but it was not a good look for black people.

What we are experiencing, ONCE AGAIN, is classic Willie Lynchism at its finest.  We all have opinions and they often don't coincide with the opinions of others.  That's life.  However, for a people who are structurally, economically, organizationally, etc. behind most other groups in this country, we do not have to luxury of bickering to the point that nothing really gets accomplished.  Everything we interact with should result in something productive.  Even if it is doing nothing more than bettering yourself.   Please stop putting SOME of these rappers on the level of dignitaries and spokespeople.  Doing so only magnifies your ignorance.

Al only takes on causes that garner him notarity and financial gain.  I feel the world would have benefitted from Nas' concept alum being titled "Nigger".  Now that we're on the verge of having a "Black President", it needs to be discussed.  It's in the fore front and racism will get worst before it gets better.  The hardest part about taking on any challenge is beginning.  But ole Rev has to catch feelings and hate on folks freedom of speech and expression.  That ain't tight.  And as for as old versus youth, remember ya'll, age ain't nothin but a number.  Being older don't make you wiser it just means you'll probably die first.  Old folks do just as much, IF NOT MORE, dumb shit as young ones.  WATCH THE NEWS!

He matters because he is a successful young black male in the publics eye. Kids listen to this junky. They are influenced by the things they see, and hear. Wayne doesn't give a fuck. Doesn't give a fuck about you, me, kids, or his own fucking people. It was just so disrespectful how he went at Al Sharpton...it was unnecessary. He's entitled to his own opinions, yes, but it's his demeanor that was just uncalled for. See, Wayne is like most of these dudes who's comments I've read. They don't know anything outside of what the media, and the people on the streets, who ALSO don't know anything outside of what the media tells them. It's sad. Google, Yahoo, Alta Vista. The internet. All it takes is about 15 minutes of your life to search, read, and better understand what is happening out here in YOUR hood. There's a war going on, against YOU, to KEEP YOU WHERE YOU ARE, AND THAT'S OUT OF THE KNOW. These streets have brainwashed too many of you into believing you know what's happening in this country and that in the end, it doesn't really concern you. You feel you can do nothing. Haha, it's laughable really, because that's exactly the opposite of what Rev. Al Sharpton is living proof of. That you ARE somebody, who has a voice and can STAND for what you believe to be true and just. You have the ability to FIGHT. You hate the way you live? Change it. BY ALL MEANS NECESSARY. If you feel there aren't any leaders, why can't you become one? Are you afraid? Do you need to be lead? Stand up...wake up ya'll, YOU KNOW BETTER, and yet you continue this meaningless chatter about what Al Sharpton doesn't do for you and your hood....have you called the N.A.N.? Has anyone having anything to do with any of those cases you felt like HE should've been present at asked for help? Have you tried to help them yourself? Organized any rally's? Publicity is just that, publicity. It's in the public eye, and brings it some noteriety and thus it's known to busy people like Al Sharpton that his presence may be needed. Wake up ya'll...for anyone who feels indifferent about Al Sharpton for his views or approaches to Hip Hop, I'm not mad about that. That's a good thing that you're somewhat grounded and have something to stand for...but stand with BOTH legs! Know the entire situation, the people involved, and what can be solved or changed to increase development and bring positivity to our youth. I advise all who don't know about what National Action Network, Al Sharpton, and ''people like him'' have done for the community and we as a people, to READ. Please, just read...learn about what is happening, the media is not to be trusted. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE NEWS, THEY JUST REPORT IT. Remember that. Show some respect to someone who is doing something that you yourself are not doing. He's no saint, nor am I, or you, but that man STANDS FOR SOMETHING. What do you stand for? What does a dude like Lil Wayne stand for? If you know the history, then good, but that's only half the battle. Use that knowledge and build for a better future. It's all about the kids...they are spiraling out of control. Especially with the shape of the economy...it's getting harder for those who already were struggling. Lord help us...

@VPfeaturesYSE:

Let me start off by saying that I both respect, and understand where you're coming from. I agree with most of what you said, but no one seems to be offering any solutions to the problem, so I'm just throwing my two cents in...so bare with me. I'm asking this seriously, how much of the African-American community do you think listens to Death Metal? Secondly, how many African-Americans do you see performing Death Metal? It's a matter of predominance. You've got to look at it like this, if there were more African-Americans that created and supported Death Metal, and if Death Metal is in someways detrimental to them, then it would make more sense to start there. You have to establish common ground with the people whom you are trying to fight for, and in this case, since Hip Hop was founded by the brown and black people, it makes more sense to relate to that, analyze, and get people to see the negative effects of that on both themselves and the youth. As for the publicity, I garuantee that you he does things when the cameras AREN'T on...he does not control the media...nor does he FIGHT for the media. He is one man, and the N.A.N. is only one organization. Support and HELP them, and that way we can reach more people.

This is by far the longest post I have EVER posted on any site, at anytime. This is bigger than Hip Hop. I really want everyone to hear me right now...we control who we are, and who we become. Thus, we also influence who are children are, and who they become, so if we can respect ourselves, and others better, then this world will be a better place. Haha, although it's not going to right all the wrongs, LIFE would be better. We have to HELP each other, lead by example. I'm no better than any of you, and I'm not perfect and I don't pretend to be, but I love my peolple, and I'm concerned and worried...that's all this is. It's getting worse and worse. A 16 year old girl got shot right down the street from my crib a few weeks ago. Caught in the crossfire, and no one that was supposed to get hit, got hit. She's dead. No marches, no news coverage, no concern. It happens all the time out here in the hundreds (Far-Southside of Chicago.) It hurts me, real talk, and it's going to keep happening until shit gets better...we're getting used to this way of living and say 'that's just how it is', true, but is it supposed to be this way? Is it ok? What is happening to our communities?

Compare Wayne's persona to Al's...no comparison. Al has been through things that would make average men break down. The ironic part about it is, he endured these things so that Wayne could be blessed with a platform to make his mediocre music. That's gratitude for you.

How we gon ever get up if this the way we get down.

I can't support that stupid ass shit. I heard his album one time and was not impressed at all and not because he said that shit, it's entertainment, but because he really believes the shit he's saying. One thing I give him credit for is his hype factor. The machine is behind this man big time!

i gotta go with Sharpton though
you have to respect what he went through, and what he does on a regular.

if somebody assassinate the man right now (and i hope it never happens) who are we gonna look to?? if you dont like the job he does...i challenge any and everybody to be a leader in his/her community..point blank period!!

him goin at Wayne is nothin....maybe Al recognizes Wayne's following of fans and challenges him to be a better leader or role model...if wayne was on some political shit, hed be a lethal Black man...which would probably make him an ENEMY of THE STATE!!!

Wayne is cold with the metaphors, but he SHOULD put better content in his raps.

i have to go with AL. he go hard for us when it comes to civil rights.....wayne should take a long look at himself if the old head say so!!!

shout out to the ill community for putting their two cents in on this one....what a good topic!!! wheres the regs. that be in the rumors section???

I dont agree with everything that al sharpton does but I do recognize that he does more for advocating black peoples rights than maybe 90% of the people on the the planet. Although he does have the right to free speech to say fuck al sharpton is ignorant, little wanye has nothing of substance to say about anything. He would be the first cat on the streets that would get hit up cause he a short little nigga so the street stuff he talk about is kinda stupid also. For eveybody that agree with him they are truely lost souls that always will say the system is out to get them but when you see people get killed or time in jail over gangs or drugs they go and do the same exact shit cause they think they will get away with and then get caught and blame it on the system? Niggas act like you have to spoon feed them how to act or they will be a lost cause. Lesson for you idiots out there its this easy you go to school and pay attention and try to learn something not be the coolest muthafucker there, you decide what you would like to do with your life and you act on that meaning go to college and get a degree in something, after that it is easier to get a job that pays decent money that niggas think is so impossible. Have little wizzy tell you that, it will never happen!

I think it boils down to individual responsibility and determination.  When you (I'm speaking of all of us) take the time out to READ and find things out for yourself, including finding out the resources that are out there to change your situation, your way of thinking should change. (If you know better, Do better) When your thinking changes, along comes the life style changes. When your eyes are open to the bigger picture, then that's where the action begins. And you join those that are headed in the same direction as you are to make changes within your community.

I think we can help those that TRULY want to help themselves.  When someone makes up their minds that they want change, the possibilities are endless.

Lil' Wayne will be who he is until he decides to change, or until God intervenes.  It's unfortunate that he has a platform and an opportunity that so many of us don't have and he chooses to poison the minds of those that are easily influenced. Until he realizes, to whom much is given, much is required, he won't change.

neworleansuptown, al sharpton and others may not have done things for each black person in this country, but what they have done helps us all collectively.  i'm glad the cameras are there, because if they weren't, we wouldn't know anything about it and the media damn sure wouldn't tell us.  so look up the incident in lima, OH or the killing of an elderly woman in georgia by the police.  if you've heard about it great, if not, that proves the point that the media isn't letting us know what's going on.

lil wayne has been exposed, or should i say the opportunity to be exposed to bigger and greater things that he may not have seen growing up.  this is his time to lead someone, but he chooses not to.

What have you done for youself ? Shit is ridiculous. If there are no more so called black leaders it's because you idiots are so brainwashed by the media you wouldn't recognize one if it was your own damn reflection. Black men and women, you all are your own leaders and people like Al sharpton are just the voice. The representers for those who can't represent. So if you're not one of them then represent for your damn self, and quit bitching.

When you have a night stick up your ass make sure you ask Lil wayne to voice his opinion and help you out. The only thing wayne is good for is telling you niggas how to lick it like a lollipop

That's a cop out. You know who Malcolm X was right? Do you know a man that they called King? Dr. Martin Luther King? What about a man by the name of Huey Newton? Read my dude, and understand what these GREAT men of color were about, and what they DIED for. THOSE ARE YOUR LEADERS...THEY LOST THEIR LIVES FOR YOU. Look at it this way, people worship Jesus Christ, correct? Have they met him personally in his physical form? I can't speak for everyone, but not too many people I know have. But, they BELIEVE. They've read and studied who he was...what he was, and try to be like him. You have all the ammunition you need to be your own leader. Knowledge is power, so learn more, fill your barrell, lock your purpose, and let them bullets fly my dude.

@Hypnotice7:

Thanks man. I'm really hurt by this man (the lack of respect and desire to learn more about the struggle from my generation)...really, I just don't understand why so many people refuse to care, or don't think they are important and strong enough to help create that change that we all want.

That's another thing I forgot to say in addition to Lil Wayne not caring about anyone...he doesn't give a damn about himself. He makes that CRYSTAL CLEAR in both his music, AND alot of his public comments and appearances. You ain't gotta read inbetween the lines to see he's really got some deep seeded issues.

AL Sharpton is out of touch as are most people from his era...you will only see him when he can put his processed hair in front of the camera. No, I don't agree with a lot of the music out here but I do understand that these young catz are trying make a living doing what they know how to do.  It's either that or they going to out here putting a gun to your head and taking what they need or selling drugs...Lil Wayne I am not a big fan of all your music but I understand where you coming from and I respect you for that.  Everybody trying to eat but aint nobody trying feed.  We have to cut these young catz some slack because they could be out here doing so serious dirt, so as long as they in the studio...you don't have to worry about them coming thru your window.  They damned if they do and damn if they don't.!!!!!!!!! People would rather see them rot behind bars then spitting bars!!!! DO YA THANG YOUNG CATZ!!!!!!!!

I fucks with Wayne in small doses. I listened to the song, and I was with him about the sex offenders and shit, but the Al Sharpton thing caught me by surprise. When Jay Z and David Banner went at Al they did it respectfully. Weezy was pretty disrespectful. I understand where he is coming from, but there is a way to say stuff and this was the wrong way. Not only that but wasn't he high when he recorded the song? I mean he is pretty fucked up all the time. This is the same man who said that he was gonna stop doing cocaine cause it breaks his face out..... Weezy is cool as an entertainer, but this proves that he should stick to rapping and let the grown men handle speaking for Hip Hop.

If watching how we were treated after Katrina didn't show you, no one gives a fuck, then nothing will.

Al Sharpton does like media exposure. Our group cannot get him to even respond about Katrina in 2008! His reps tell us to "Contact your state reps". WHAT KIND OF SHIT IS THAT?

But if the shit hits the media, he'll be back! So on that, I know where Wayne is coming from. It is his community and he's just pissed off and ranting. It makes for Great entertainment. lol

But truth be told, there are many Katrina victims who feel the same way. We wish he'd join us and use his influence to make our states and Government, do the right thing by all of us.
