Rapper Snoop Dogg and well-known rap collective Above the Law will be among the celebrities and local leaders honored during this year’s West Coast Hip-Hop Regional Awards.

The two-day event, which is slated to kick off with a meet and greet event on Oct. 24, will go beyond recognizing area movers and shakers who have made significant contribution to the music industry, according to West Coast Hip-Hop Regional Awards founder and CEO Miss SKG.

“It's also about promoting diversity in the Hip-Hop genre, educating the public on the work of rap and Hip-Hop pioneers and to diminish the negativity associated with Hip-Hop and rap," she told AllHipHop.com in a statement.

The Hip-Hop Regional Awards is designed to empower artists as well as honor them for their musical accomplishments and contributions to the community, while educating the public on the importance of and need for positive images associated with the Hip-Hop.

In addition to honoring West Coast artistry, the event will recognize Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks and highlight health issues in the community such as to sickle cell anemia.

The emphasis on broader issues coincides with Miss SKG’s efforts to used the event as a vehicle to "implement after-school music programs and initiate scholarship programs so students can pursue their dreams in college."

Snoop Dogg will join Above The Law and King Tee in receiving tributes during the event’s dinner show.

The second annual awards ceremony, which is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, will also pay homage to Latin Hip-Hop music.

Actress Porsha Coleman, Julio G and comedian T.K Kirkland will serve as hosts, while artists like Crooked I, Glasses Malone, Colby O Donis, Strong Arm Steady and others will also be celebrated at the Regional Awards.

The majority always outrules the minority and we all feel like hip hop aint dead so if he wants to download music rather than contribute to keepin it alive by all means let him....people like him are their own worst enemy.

    Wow...

i have to chime in on this one. You know, music is like your girl in high school...especially Hip Hop. You grow older and you discover that she has changed, but you find it hard to change with her at some point. She totally turns into someone you don't even recognize, and then you get angry because you want your
old girl" back the way she used to be.

It ain't gonna happen. Embrace it, get over it, adjust, or move on.  She will never be like she used to be, and to think about it, I am glad music changes. We won't like every dress she puts on, or who she lets ride her, but she is still the old girl you once loved....just that she is not for you anymore...Let her go.

The torch is now handed down to the younguns comin in to the game, and I am glad cats got ways of feedin their fams. Think about it, before we once loved Snoop and Dre, cats in NYC str8 HATED it when the West Coast came into the game. Now, Dr. Dre is a legend in the game, and it is well deserved.

EVERYONE thought Lil John was the wackest shit in the world...then when Usher's "Yeah" came out, the world was sayin "YEAAAAAAH"...

Now The young mogul Solja Boy got 'em sayin "YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU", and once again, our girl, Hip Hop, changed forever....

Now, as for Detox...this is MY prediction....hate if you want, but REMEMBER MY WORDS:

Old head fans will expect the "Vintage" Dr. Dre, cutting edge beats, great music, and slick ass words(Thanks Jay-Z)...but the fans now really didn't experience Dr. Dre like we did the day "The Chronic", "Deep Cover", "Chronic 2001" came out perhaps.

These new fans love to see the train wreck, so cats will hate, check soundscan like they are waiting on a tax return check in the mail, and pray that the project flops so they will have something to talk about....because the young don't want the old to come back. They expect and LOVE to see vets fall...

Personally, I hope Detox never comes out. Dre left like Jordan(the first retirement), and I remember the anticipation of a Death Row release...especially Snoop Dogg's "Doggy Style". I got all the Death Row releases the day they released, and I enjoy them to this day.

The young fans won't appreciate what Dre brings to music...all they want to do is hate...old cats won't accept Solja Boy and whoever comes behind him, and the young cats want the old gone...so where are we? Hmm...

Hey, Jazz is waiting for you...or get religion and turn to Kirk Franklin...he will take you....either way, Hip Hop is ever changing and to be honest, I am PROUD of the genre we created out of NOTHING....and look how it has grown!

She is one BAD ASS BITCH!

Question: Do you know what the FIRST HIP HOP song that got an award from the Grammys? You say, at first you don't care, but what creation have YOU made that grew from a thing you did on the street corners to pass the time to a multi-billion dollar a year business?

Hate on THAT! LOL! Sorry...I had to get all that out...just a bit of knowledge for the young AND old. I am still young, but my Hip Hop roots run DEEP...I did my homework piiimpin!

I hope it works out and West Coast rappers can start getting love again.
