Kardinal Offishall Snags Juno Awards

Canadian emcee Kardinal Offishall was one of the big winners at Sunday’s (March 30) Juno Awards, winning both Single and Rap Recording of the Year.

The annual Juno Awards, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys, was founded in 1970 and celebrates the outstanding achievements of Canadian musicians.

Kardinal’s dancehall anthem “Dangerous” was a surprise upset winner this year, beating out stiff competition from Nickelback (“Gotta Be Somebody”), Celine Dion (“Taking Chances”), Michael Buble (“Lost”), and Divine Brown (“Lay It On the Line”).

As a group, Offishall’s competitors had previously won over 30 Juno Awards.

Produced by DJ Kemo, “Dangerous” featured Akon and hit Top 10 on Canada’s iTunes chart.

In the U.S., the single peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

The track went on to spawn 3 remixes, and powered Offishall’s fourth studio album Not 4 Sale to #1 on Canada’s R&B/Hip-Hop list and #8 on its overall album chart.

Sunday’s Juno Awards drew 4 million viewers, making it the highest rated broadcast that night.

Earlier this month, the in-demand Kardinal Offishall completed his first tour of Mumbai as part of VH1’s Hip-Hop Hustle concert series.

his album was good man. i bought it.  He's got two strikes going against him in this market though. he's Canadian and he's got the reggae thing.  but he's a credible mc and he's got good lyrics and songwriting

??????

When a Canadian MC wins the Canadian equivolent of the Grammy Award, sumthings wrong, huh?  wow.. you're wise beyond your years, my dude.  No diss, fam... just not understanding your perspective

Maybe Im biased, being Detroit is so close to Toronto & been hearing from Kardi since  "Firestarter Vol. 1.. Quest for Fire"  but dude been ill for a minute.... this really ain't news here.

Its peoples' narrow-azz view & their definition of what Hip Hop is/should be... is what hinders  certain artists from blowing.  But true success is being accepted @ home, so all is good.  Big up

In '88 Flav said "who gives a phukk about a got dam Grammy"

In 2009, it seems as though some of you think that a Grammy validates a rapper as being successful or having skills.  Even Kanye and TI was crying foul over a phukkin Grammy.

Crying ass 80's babies! Yeah I said it!

I swear you Youngins be killing me with this bullsh*t!

Anyway I've been bumpin this dude since '02 when he got down with the Clipse.  Do your thing Kardy!
