Wild 28-hour period from Friday to Saturday leaves 4 dead, 3 wounded

Michael DeMocker / The Times-PicayuneDetectives probe a fatal shooting in the 1700 block of Hero Boulevard in Algiers, one of eight total shootings from Friday night to late Saturday.

Four men were shot to death, a teenage woman was raped, and three others suffered gunshot wounds in separate incidents over a violent weekend in New Orleans.

The rape victim was 17. Meanwhile, one person wounded by gunfire was a 15-year-old smoking a cigarette outside of a teen party in Gentilly still going on five minutes from midnight Saturday.

The mayhem, occurring over a 28-hour period in various parts of the city, started in the 7th Ward Friday evening when a stranger raped a teenage girl on her way home from school, the New Orleans Police Department said.

A man grabbed her from behind and forced her in an abandoned house in the 1900 block of North Galvez Street, police said.

The violence continued about 7:40 p.m., in the 2100 block of South Liberty Street in Central City.

Police say brothers Kevin Kirk, 21, and Keith Kirk, 24, confronted Tyrone Anderson on the porch of his home and argued with him about borrowed property. Police then accuse them of shooting Anderson in the back and chest.

Anderson died inside his home moments later, before paramedics called out to the scene could treat him, police said.

Detectives probing the killing arrested the Kirks at their home in the 2100 block of Jackson Avenue less than seven hours later. They were each booked with one count of second-degree murder and face life in prison if they are tried and convicted.

Then, about 8:25 p.m. Friday, two men knocked on the door of a home in the 900 block of North Carrollton Avenue in the City Park neighborhood and asked to see someone they believed was inside, police said. The man who answered the door told them the person they were looking for didn't live there.

The men barged into the home and wrestled with the victim, whose age wasn't available. One of them then pulled a gun and shot him twice in the leg. New Orleans EMS paramedics called out to the scene then took him to LSU Interim Public Hospital, where he was treated for wounds that weren't life-threatening, police said.

No arrests or suspects have been announced in the case.

A teenager then allegedly shot his mother's boyfriend about 50 minutes later.

Wendell Etienne, 54, argued with the 16-year-shortly before being shot several times at the 3100 block of Edith Weston Place in the Desire neighborhood.

The teen's mother turned him in to 5th District police Friday night, as doctors worked to save Etienne's life at LSU Interim Public Hospital. Etienne died there about 6 a.m., coroner's chief investigator John Gagliano said.

The teen, whose name wasn't released by police because of his age, has been booked with one count of second-degree murder.

The violence picked back up again Saturday about 1:53 a.m. A man was walking in the 1700 block of Frenchmen Street when someone driving in a car pulled up to him and shot him in the groin. Paramedics called out to the scene rushed the victim to LSU Interim Public Hospital.

Investigators haven't announced any motive or suspects in the case.

The daylight hours of Saturday arrived and passed without serious incident. But two more men lost their lives and one more man was wounded once night fell.

About 8:30 p.m., someone shot Sterling Addison Jr., 21, while he sat in the driver's seat of a car parked in the 7800 block of Shamrock Drive, near the corner of Curran Road in the Little Woods neighborhood.

Addison died by the time paramedics could get to the car, police said.

Kevin Collins, 24, was fatally shot in the head in the 1700 block of Hero Street, off L.B. Landry Boulevard in Algiers, less than 45 minutes later.

Collins was taken to LSU Interim Public Hospital but died there before 10 p.m., Gagliano said.

Just before midnight, a 15-year-old boy was ambushed while smoking a cigarette outside of a teen party in the Boss Status Club in the 3100 block of Gentilly Boulevard.

Someone passed him and shot him in the arm, the groin and the back of the neck, police said. Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and is recovering in stable condition.

Investigators haven't named a motive or any suspects in the attack

Jail time ain't never boosted nobody's career!  I really don't think that's how it works, Boosie.   In past scenarios, you had people / artists making the most out of a bad situation.  See...it's all about the way you look at it!  

You gotta have a buzz, first and foremost.  Then after that, it could go two ways:  

1) People forget about you because music is always changing

or

2) You have enough "output" to keep your buzz going while you're away.  Or, you have a strong team to do that while you're away.  All the while, you're writing some GOOD or PROLIFIC s**twhile you're in there, you sign a huge deal while you're in there, and you hit the ground running on your release date.
