West coast G-Funk pioneer Warren G. is celebrating his love for marijuana with a new single featuring Blink 182’s Travis Barker.

Warren G.’s new track “Let’s Get High” featuring Black Nicc dropped today (April 20) to mark 4/20, an informal holiday among some smokers of marijuana.

An article published in The New York Times today revealed that the trend started in the 1970’s when a group of Northern California youth smoked marijuana everyday at 4:20 PM.

Since then, the informal holiday has spread to college campuses, where students gather to smoke and mark the occasion.

Even cable networks are programming around the occasion.

Today Cinemax played Cheech & Chong’s classic marijuana comedy Up in Smoke, followed by 1992’s pot flick Dazed and Confused.

G4’s offerings include Half Baked, a comedy featuring Dave Chappelle that centers around stoners who sell pot to raise bail money for their jailed friend.

That will be followed by Super High Me, a documentary that centers around comic Doug Benson’s experiment in which he stopped smoking pot for 30 days, then spent the next 30 days inhaling.

“I wanted to do something very special this year to support the 420 movement,” Warren G. told AllHipHop.com about his ode to the holiday. “Marijuana has been proven to be an effective medicinal treatment for cancer and many other medical problems.”

Warren G.’s track “Let’s Get High” will be included on his upcoming sixth studio album Tha G Files, which is due in August of 2009.

Tonight, Warren G. will also host a live online chat at http://www.warrengeezy.com and http://www.ustream.tv/ at 9PM EST.
