(AllHipHop News) A week after the original The Marshall Mathers LP was released on May 23rd, the album had broken the still untouched single week record for most sales at 1.71 million. It is safe to say that naming an album the Part 2 of such a colossal opus will lead to high expectations, which Eminem fully addresses in a snippet of his upcoming interview with Rolling Stone.
In the interview, Em acknowledges the high expectations he placed on this album given the title and says this is the hardest he’s ever worked in his life:
Calling it The Marshall Mathers LP 2, obviously I knew that there might be certain expectation. I wouldn’t want to call it that just for the sake of calling it that. I had to make sure that I had the right songs – and just when you think you got it, you listen and you’re like, ‘F###, man! I feel like it needs this or that,’ to paint the whole picture.
While the 41 year old MC admits his name choice has warranted fans to anticipate a continuation of The Marshall Mathers LP, he wants it to be clear that this album is more of an homage than a continuation:
So there’s not gonna be, like, continuations of every old song on there or anything like that. To me, it’s more about the vibe, and it’s more about the nostalgia.
