The creator of the Hip Hop classic “Planet Rock” mentioned UZN brothers and sisters like A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, Monie Love, Queen Latifah, Ice-T, Ice Cube, and Brand Nubian. One rap legend that the public may not have known was affiliated with the Zulus is Tupac Shakur.
“[2Pac] was founded with us,” said Bambaataa. “I met him here and there. I didn’t know him to be hanging out with him.”
Pac was killed at the age of 25. A few months later the Notorious B.I.G. lost his life at 24 years old. Bambaataa expressed his belief that both of those tragic murders did not have to happen.
“That could have been avoided. When people used to be arguing over the West Coast versus the East Coast, the Universal Zulu Nation never had that problem,” added Bambaataa. “We were on the East Coast. We were on the West Coast. We were in the South. We were in the North.”
