Pharrell talked about meeting Puff (aka Diddy) for the first time at Daddy’s House Recording Studios. The then relatively unknown producer and his Neptunes partner Chad Hugo got the chance to work with Bad Boy artists Total on 1996’s “When Boy Meets Girl” and Ma$e on 1997’s “Lookin’ At Me.” P credited Puff with giving him and Chad the confidence to release music as the Hip Hop group N.E.R.D. aswell.
The conversation also included Puff discussing his move toward a positive thinking lifestyle. The New York City mogul has been involved in a couple of violent incidents over the last year. He reportedly smacked Drake in Miami, and Diddy was arrested for allegedly assaulting a UCLA coach. But Diddy claims he is now fully embracing a peaceful mindset.
Puff Daddy said:
I was rapping with this cat. I didn’t really know him. We were just talking about negative and positive. I was telling him, “I’m really trying to be more positive.” He just said, “If you’re faced with something negative and you hit it with a negative, it’s only gonna give you another negative. The only way to turn around a negative is to hit it with a positive.”
I was like, “Damn, it’s been that simple the whole time.” So I made a decision on what I want to put out there. I don’t wanna give you nothing but love. I don’t wanna give you nothing but positive vibrations. Yes, Puff Daddy has become a hippy.
