Drake, Future, Curren$y And Missy Elliott Get Marvel Comic Covers

MARVEL REMIXES MORE HIP-HOP COVERS

Marvel’s editor-in-chief Alex Alonso has been making sure to cross his love for hip-hop with the latest Marvel comic covers. Covers to hip-hop albums like Eric B. and Rakim’s Paid in Full, Wu-Tang Clan’s Enter the 36 Chambers, Nas’ Illmatic, 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and many more have gotten the comic book treatment and Marvel has now debuted four more. Drake’s Nothing Was The Same, Missy Elliott’s Supa Dupa Fly, Future’s Dirty Sprite 2 and Curren$y’s Verde Terrace album covers have been cartoonized.

In a sit down with MTV, Alonso discussed why he decided to pay homage to hip-hop with these covers.

“For me, this is the music I grew up with,” Alonso said. “Whereas previous editor-in-chiefs have drawn their inspiration from the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen and you name it, I draw my inspiration from [hip-hop and R&B]. This is the soundtrack to my life, and I also know this is the soundtrack to a number of other people’s lives that work in comics. And that group has grown, and grown over the years. I’ve been in comics now for some 25 years, and I’ve noticed that there are more and more people of all races who are into hip-hop. This is the music that they listen to.”
