Gomez opened with 117,000 equivalent album units (85,000 pure album sales). Game came in second with 95,000 EAUs (83,000 pure album sales). Streaming totals essentially decided the week’s winner.
The Documentary 2 marks Game’s fifth album to reach the Top 2. His last solo studio effort, 2012’s Jesus Piece, came out the gate with 86,000 copies for 6th place on the Billboard 200. Prior to that release, each of Game’s LPs opened at either #1 or #2.
Game will have the chance to make a major mark on the following week’s chart as well. The Documentary 2.5 was released on October 16. According to Hits Daily Double, Demi Lovato’s Confident and Pentatonix’s self-titled fourth album are in a race for the pole position at the moment.
