“The Real Hip Hop” painting by Demont Peekaso
AllHipHop.com co-hosted a youth town hall meeting at the 82nd gathering of the Nation of Islam during its Saviours’ Day 2012 celebration in Rosemont, Illinois. The discussion, entitled “Our Generation Accepting Responsibility,” included participants such as rappers Jasiri X and Cormega, Wu-Tang Corporation CEO Divine, award-winning singer/songwriters Raheem DeVaughn and Mary Brown, and more.
Focused on education, Hip-Hop as a tool, and pathways to success for young people in today’s modern world, the discussion was attended by several hundred youth and young adults from within the Nation of Islam, as well as the surrounding Chicago area.
During the town hall meeting, AllHipHop.com met a talented young artist named Demont Peekaso who creates on-the-spot artwork of people, places, and events as they’re happening. Take a look at the commemorative piece he painted ON HIS SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE cellphone while listening to the good advice from the star-studded panel (AllHipHop.com’s own Grouchy Greg is to the far right of the painting, depicted with his infamous beard):
