(AllHipHop News) Back in November of 2013 several of rap music’s founding fathers expressed their interest in building an official Hip Hop museum in The Bronx, New York. The project now appears to be one step closer to coming into fruition.

Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, and Grand Wizard Theodore officially announced plans for the museum at a press conference last week. Organizers are looking to open the Universal Hip Hop Museum inside the Kingsbridge Armory by 2017.
The goal of the UHHM is to highlight Hip Hop’s historical and cultural roots through interactive technology. All aspects of the culture will be featured including graffiti art, break dancing, and DJing.
“Many people have a misconception of what Hip Hop is,” said Afrika Bambaataa, the museum’s chairman. “When they say Hip Hop, they only say it’s the rapper, and there’s a whole culture and movement behind it.”
The proposed location of the museum has not been finalized. The decision of which community based sites will be housed in the redeveloped Kingsbridge Armory will be made by an upcoming advisory board.
