J. Cole To Reshoot “Crooked Smile” Video; Hopes Macklemore “Opened The Door” For Black Rappers On Pop Radio

J. Cole: “It Happened With Elvis, Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, And Now Hopefully Macklemore”

(AllHipHop News) J. Cole fans looking for the visuals for his Born Sinner song “Crooked Smile” will have to wait just a little while longer. The Roc Nation emcee revealed in an interview with MissInfo.tv that he is going to redo the video.

“We have to reshoot it,” said Cole. “It came out nice but it just didn’t come out exactly how I wanted. It’s such an important song so I want the visual to match. If this was my first video then I would have panicked.”

The North Carolina native also shares his opinion that Seattle rapper Macklemore may have provided a lane for black rappers to break into non-Hip Hop radio markets.

“I think Macklemore’s ‘Thrift Shop’ gave me hope for a song like [“Crooked Smile”]. I think he kinda… as weird as it is, and it’s always happens like this, the white boys got to open the door for black people at white radio,” said Cole. “It happened with Elvis, Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, and now hopefully Macklemore with a song like ‘Thrift Shop’ can allow ‘Crooked Smile’ to get its proper shine at Pop radio.”
