While the singer-songwriter has managed to attract the ears of young listeners across the nation she apparently does not get why some of her musical peers have been as successful. Speaking with interviewmagazine.com, Lorde mentioned a few other entertainers, including two YMCMB rappers, that she feels creates music that does not relate to most people’s lives.
“Around the middle of last year I started listening to a lot of rap, like Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as pop singers like Lana Del Rey,” said Lorde. “They all sing about such opulence, stuff that just didn’t relate to me—or anyone that I knew. I began thinking, ‘How are we listening to this? It’s completely irrelevant’.”
