Big Sean To Build Luxury Entertainment Venue In Detroit

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Big Sean has outlined plans to build a luxury movie theater and concert venue in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

The “Bounce Back” hitmaker is known for giving back to his local community, and earlier this week, he joined forces with Paul Glanz, owner of theater company Emagine Entertainment, to announce a joint venture which they hope to open in 2020.

The Sean Anderson Theater, which draws its title from Big Sean’s birth name, will be a top-of-the-line multiplex with up to 1,300 seats, while the hip-hop star and Glanz also want to have space at the venue to hold live concerts and other events.

“We want to do something revolutionary with it,” Big Sean explained. “We don’t want to just make it a movie theater, traditionally. We also want it to be a hub for entertainment for the whole community. We want people to have an incentive to go the extra miles, to travel into Detroit.”

An exact location has yet to be unveiled, but the rapper insists it will be in the center of Detroit in a bid to boost the economy after city officials filed for bankruptcy in 2013.

It’s the latest new Detroit venture for Big Sean.

He and his mother, Myra Anderson, also recently launched the Mogul Prep education program, through which they aim to educate students about all of the jobs available in the music industry in a bid to help them forge lasting career paths.

“All I wanted to be was a musician, but if I had known these kind of things, who would have known the possibilities for me and my crew around me, and what we could have done to take it further?” he told Billboard. “I know the unemployment rates are super high in Detroit, especially for the young ones. We’re trying to really help that out and give them clear career paths that are needed, and that they probably have natural talents for.”

Meanwhile, Big Sean is also working hard on new material after deciding to postpone the start of his upcoming Unfriendly Reminder Tour earlier this week so he could “stay focused” in the recording studio.

Fetty Wap Fined After Pleading Guilty To Drunk Drag Racing

(AllHipHop News) Fetty Wap has been ordered to pay a fine and attend a safe driving program after pleading guilty to drunk drag racing.

The rapper was pulled over by police after he was spotted drag racing on the Gowanus Expressway in New York last November.

The “Trap Queen” star was apparently speeding in his Mercedes in a 50 mile an hour zone.

Fetty handed over an expired New Jersey driver’s license to officers, at which point police noticed signs of intoxication.

He was given a field sobriety test but blew a 0.9 – just above the legal limit.

The rapper, real name Willie Maxwell II, was arrested for 15 charges including reckless endangerment, drag racing, driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, unsafe lane changing, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, following too close, and speeding.

On Thursday, 26-year-old Fetty pleaded guilty to both reckless endangerment and driving while intoxicated, and Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Marguerite Dougherty sentenced him to attend a two-day driver improvement program and 14 hours of an impaired driving program.

He also has to pay $500 in fines and attend a victim impact panel.

Zaine Richards, 31, who was behind the star in another car, was also arrested in November.

He pleaded guilty on Wednesday to reckless endangerment and unlicensed driving charges, and was told he would have to pay a $100 fine and $88 in surcharges, as well as attending a two-day driver improvement program.

Following his November arrest, Fetty defended his drag racing, telling reporters that it had never put others in harm’s way.

“I would never put people in danger,” he said. “It was 2 o’clock in the morning. There wasn’t no cars behind us.”

Jay-Z Tops Diddy On Forbes Cash Kings List For 2018

(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z has dethroned Sean “Diddy” Combs as the richest entertainer on the planet.

Over the past year, Jay-Z’s net worth has increased to $900 million, putting him on top of Forbes list for the first time since the Forbes Five was created in 2011.

Diddy clocked in at #2 with an impressive net worth of $810 million, largely due to his investments in Ciroc and RevoltTV.

Dr. Dre rounds out the top three, with $770 million, but he could be #1 by next year, since he has stock options with Apple that will vest, and should bring in an extra $100 million this year.

Drake and Eminem placed fourth and fifth place, with a net worth of $100 million dollars each in 2017.

N.O.R.E. Talks Lil Uzi Vert, The Generational Gap & Hip Hop History

(AllHipHop News) Back in 2016, Lil Uzi Vert experienced backlash from some Hip Hop purists when the newcomer refused to rap over a DJ Premier beat while on Hot 97. The moment was one of the most widely known examples of the so-called “generational gap” in Hip Hop culture.

Rap veteran N.O.R.E. addressed the old school/new school divide during an interview with Montreality. The Drink Champs and On The Road Eatin’ host referred back to Uzi’s deflection at the New York City radio station.

“Me and DJ Drama had a conversation. He said, ‘Lil Uzi Vert didn’t know who DJ Premier was, but he’s only 20 years old. That’s not his fault.’ You know what I told him? ‘You’re right, it’s your fault. That’s your artist,” recalled N.O.R.E.

He continued, “I’m not saying it’s going to make him better, but it would make him a better person. It’s going to make him appreciate the arts. Because guess what happens? One day you’ll get old. And one day, there’s going to be a kid who don’t know who you are and rhyming on your beat. And they’re gonna say the same exact thing you said about [DJ Premier] and you’re going to say, ‘Maybe he should have did his history lesson. We do not stay 21 forever, I tried.”

Following the Hot 97 controversy, Premier tweeted that Uzi reached out to him and things were “all good” between the two. Lil Uzi also later told AllHipHop, “I’m from up North so I have no choice but to know real rap.”

N.O.R.E. shared his belief that being aware of the culture’s past generations is important. The C-N-N member gave his own brief class on melodic Hip Hop artists.

“Doing a history lesson on rappers is actually fun as f-ck. If you’re a Future fan, you gotta go study Nate Dogg. You know who was the first singer-rapper? His name was TJ Swan from the Juice Crew,” said the Queens native. “And before you go to Future, you gotta go to T-Pain. They all paved the way for each other. So if you know about just one, you’re limiting your mind.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff: Chance The Rapper Would Be A Good Fresh Prince On TV

(AllHipHop News) There’s been a lot of talk about a possible reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The original Quincy Jones-produced program starred the real-life rap duo of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince.

Jazzy Jeff was recently asked which young rapper he would like to see step into Will Smith’s shoes as a new Fresh Prince on television. The legendary deejay shouted out an award-winning emcee out of Chicago.

“I think Chance [The Rapper] would be a really good Fresh Prince,” Jeff told HHDX. “Because Chance always seems to have a lighthearted demeanor. He’s got a serious side to him but Chance is always smiling. Chance is always trying to do something positive. I think Chance would be a really good Fresh Prince.”

The Coloring Book creator displayed his acting/comedic chops when he hosted Saturday Night Live in 2017. Additionally, Jazzy Jeff offered, “Chance is a trailblazer and Will has always been a trailblazer.”

According to reports, a revamped version of the 1990s classic sitcom could center around a female lead under the title of The Fresh Princess of Bel-Air. The show has not been officially confirmed, as of press time.

Bizness Boi Talks Producing Swae Lee’s “Hurt To Look” Single

(AllHipHop News) Rae Sremmurd started off March by letting loose three songs from their forthcoming triple album. One of the records was the Swae Lee-led “Hurt To Look.” The Swaecation track was produced by Fwdslxsh, EY, and Bizness Boi.

“I knew [Swae Lee] was working on Rae Sremmurd’s next project as well as Swaecation, so I sent a mixture of hard, trap-inspired beats, as well as the left-field, more uptempo and dance inspired-feel-good sounding tracks,” says Bizness Boi. “I noticed he kept recording to the feel-good ones, so I kept making those and sending them over. The moment I realized I had something with Swae was after I DM’d him asking if he’d heard any of them. He responded, ‘You may already have two on my album, keep sending,’ and the rest was history.”

He adds, “At that time I had never met Swae in person, so we were introduced to each other and Swae invited me to his house to hear some of the stuff he’d recorded to my beats. I pride myself on being an artist’s producer. The artist feels comfortable inviting me into their home, studio, or wherever they make their music because of the energy I bring into the room. That night Swae made two more songs over my productions and I got to see how he works.”

Prior to co-creating “Hurt To Look,” Andre “Bizness Boi” Robertson contributed to other records by PartyNextDoor, Plies, Kodak Black, 24hrs, and Justine Skye. The Los Angeles-based beat maker also worked on 6lack’s Grammy-nominated debut album Free 6lack.
