Vic Mensa Rates Garth Brooks, Spice Girls, Hugh Hefner, 2Pac’s Letter To Madonna & More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Vic Mensa’s recent promotional run for The Autobiography album included the Chicago emcee taking part in Pitchfork‘s “Over/Under” video series.

The “Rage” rapper had to rate several random topics such as meditation, Garth Brooks, Six Flags, caviar, Spice Girls, and Hugh Hefner.

Mensa was specifically asked for his thoughts on Tupac Shakur’s 1995 letter to Madonna.

“2Pac’s letter to Madonna is underrated, and at the same time also overrated,” responded the Roc Nation signee. “Just because it was so truthful and they just made it into a headline.”

Vic continued, “So they probably made 2Pac, to people that didn’t read into it or don’t really know that much about him, seem like [he’s] racially shallow… So I would say 2Pac’s letter is overrated just because they’ve taken it out of context.”

The letter – written while Shakur was in jail – showed the iconic Hip Hop figure was concerned how his fans would react to him dating a white, Pop superstar.

“For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting,” Pac wrote to Madonna. “But for me at least in my previous perception, I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you.”

Dave Chappelle Discusses The Difference Between The Trump & Obama Presidencies (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Dave Chappelle went from wishing President-Elect Donald Trump luck on SNL last November to apologizing in May for asking Americans to give the new Commander-In-Chief a chance.

It’s August – the effort to repeal and replace Obamacare collapsed, Special Counsel Robert Mueller is allegedly investigating members of Trump’s inner circle, and the President’s approval rating hit a new low of 33%.

So what does Chappelle now think about the current resident in the White House?

During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the comedic giant spoke about Donald Trump.

“In the last six months, I think we’re all getting an education about the presidency,” said Chappelle. “I don’t know if I’ve ever heard, in just popular discourse, people discussing ethics this much. He’s putting all this stuff on the forefront.”

The headliner of an upcoming 16-date stand-up comedy residency at Radio City Music Hall also compared Trump to his predecessor President Barack Obama.

“I think it speaks to how effective Obama’s presidency was… Donald Trump’s the other foot – good foot, bad foot,” Chappelle offered. “I think [Trump’s] going to make a more informed and better voter. We’ll figure it out.”

The Chappelle’s Show creator continued, “He’s a polarizing dude. He’s like a bad DJ at a good party.”

French Montana Explains Spending $300,000 Of His Own Money For The Sample On “Unforgettable” (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) “Unforgettable” is unquestionably the biggest hit of French Montana’s career.

The Jungle Rules cut is a Top 5, platinum single in America.

It is also an international smash with over 20 million weekly global streams on Spotify.

French’s success with the Swae Lee-assisted song is good news because he supposedly spent a lot of money to secure a sample for the track.

“I had to pay $300,000 out of my own pocket. Not the label. Out of my own pocket, I had to pay $300,000,” the Bad Boy/Epic artist revealed to The Breakfast Club. “Then [I] go to the label and the label’s like, ‘We can only give you half of that. We never heard about paying $300,000.’ That’s what you call believing in the record.”

French explained it cost another $300,000 to shoot the music video in Kampala, Uganda.

When questioned why he went into his own pocket for $600K, the New Yorker responded, “That’s what separates certain artists. I feel like if I waited – if I waited for anything in my life – I wouldn’t be French Montana. Sometimes, you just have to take matters into your own hands.”

According to French, Bad Boy Entertainment head Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs supported his decision to pay more than a quarter of a million dollars to secure the sample for “Unforgettable.”

He continued, “Both times we worked, I had the opportunity to sit in there and watch him actually put this sh-t together and it was truly of another world.”

T.I. also complimented OutKast member 3 Stacks.

“Eminem and Andre 3000 are the most meticulous artists I’ve ever worked with. They are very critical of themselves,” Tip stated. “So those two guys are really up there for me”

Michael Jordan Names Jordan Brand Rep Drake As His Favorite Rapper Right Now (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Back in 2015, Genius reported that Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan was still the most name-dropped basketball player in rap music.

Jordan is clearly a favorite b-ball reference for rappers. But which rhymer is the 5-time league MVP favoring at the moment?

“Right now I’m more of a Drake fan,” MJ told the children at his Flight School basketball camp.

It is not clear if Jumpman 23’s preference is based on Drizzy’s music or if it’s because the Toronto native is in business with the Air Jordan brand.

“Growing up I’m sure we all idolized this guy. He goes by the name of Michael Jordan. So today I came to Portland, and I officially became inducted into the Team Jordan family,” Drake announced at a 2013 concert.

Last year, N.O.R.E. set the internet on fire when he told a story on the Rap Radar podcast about Jordan allegedly saying “f-ck rap” at a Def Jam party in New York.

A representative for the sports icon responded to the statement by saying, “MJ wasn’t at this party, doesn’t know N.O.R.E., and is a fan of ALL music. Drake is in his brand, and Nelly is a partner of his with the Charlotte Hornets.”

N.O.R.E. fired back with visual proof that Jordan was photographed at the 2002 Mariah Carey album release event.

Beyonce Inches Closer To Buying A Stake In The Houston Rockets

(AllHipHop News) New mom Beyonce is reportedly keen to become a part-owner of the Houston Rockets basketball team in her native Texas.

Owner Les Alexander placed the franchise up for sale last month, 24 years after he purchased the Rockets back in 1993 for $85 million, and the Formation hitmaker has emerged as one of the interested parties, according to Bloomberg.com.

The team is said to be valued at $1.65 billion, but the price tag could sail past $2 billion thanks to its growing popularity in China.

Representatives for Beyonce and the Rockets have yet to comment on the claims, but if the superstar does become a stakeholder in the Rockets, she won’t have to look far for advice – her husband Jay-Z was previously a minority owner of the Brooklyn Nets, which he helped to rebrand from the New Jersey Nets as it settled into its new home at New York’s Barclays Center in 2012.

However, the rap mogul had to step down as investor and sell off his shares in the Nets in 2013 due to a conflict of interest as he launched a new sports division for his Roc Nation management firm.

The rules for the National Basketball Association (NBA) state that no one associated with a player representation company can hold ownership in an NBA team.

At the time, Jay-Z, who even helped to design the team’s revamped black and white uniform, admitted the decision to quit was a difficult one, but he would always have an allegiance to the Nets.

Peep Who Jay-Z Thinks Is A Modern Day Shakespeare!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Since Jay-Z was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, and since he released his ‘4:44’ album, he has actually taken time out to shine a light on some of the other artists and individuals he thinks highly of. One artist in particular was Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

In an interview with Metro News, Jay credited frequent collaborator Chris Martin with being a modern day Shakespeare.

“I have been in the industry long enough to know when I’m in the presence of a genius… and Chris Martin is just that. In years to come, Britain will look back at him as a modern day Shakespeare. He is an incredible recording artist, an incredible songwriter, but where he really comes alive is performing live. If you get the chance to see Coldplay live, do it — you ain’t gonna regret it,” said Jay-Z

Remember Jay-Z and Martin have collaborated frequently, known each other forever, and Beyonce and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy, was even featured on Coldplay’s album, ‘A Head Full of Dreams’.

Despite the close relationship, Jay maintains that what he’s saying about Martin goes beyond their friendship!
