When AllHipHop.com spoke with Zonnique in May 2016, she discussed the possibility of doing another reality show beyond starring on VH1’s The Family Hustle.
“I was telling my mom I wanted a show where I grow up. It could be a reality TV show, and I could move,” said the singer.
(AllHipHop News) Rap mogul Suge Knight’s murder trial will begin in January.
The Death Row Records founder was in court on Thursday (April 17) for a hearing to set the date, two years after he ran over and killed Terry Carter while allegedly fleeing from an altercation outside a Compton, Los Angeles diner.
Scheduling the start of the trial for January 8, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Coen told Knight that was a “must-go date”.
Asking Knight, who maintains he acted in self-defense, if the date worked for him and his legal team, the rap boss said, “That’s great”.
The fallen rap mogul, who has hired and fired a succession of lawyers while in custody, was also told the date would remain, even if he switched around his legal team again.
Terry Carter’s daughter, Nekaya, tells the Los Angeles Times she’s glad there is a start date, stating, “It’s far away, but it’s a step. We need this trial to move forward.”
(AllHipHop News) Today (April 7), Alexander Historical Auctions is holding an auction featuring over 300 items representing historic African-American individuals and events for the first “Black Heritage Auction.”
Notable pieces from Tupac “2Pac” Shukar will be offered at the event.
Some of those items include a gold medallion worn by the Hip Hop icon at the time of his fatal 1996 shooting in Las Vegas.
In addition, a handwritten lyric sheet of 2Pac’s “All Eyez on Me” single will be available.
Other music artists Chris “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace, Ray Charles, James Brown, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Josephine Baker, and Louis Armstrong will be represented as well.
Items from celebrated black figures such as Barack Obama, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Frederick Douglass, Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali, Toussaint L’Ouverture, and Phyllis Wheatley are also up for auction.
Doug E. Fresh is set to host the event.
The Hip Hop legend is co-producing the “Black Heritage Auction” with entrepreneur/philanthropist Paxton Baker.
“We are proud of the pieces up for auction at this premier sale. We have several very important pieces from Tupac Shakur and with his induction into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame taking place on the same day, the timing couldn’t be more perfect,” states Baker.
He continues, “We have an actual bronze cast of Ali’s fists that I’m so excited about. It’s a little known fact that Muhammad Ali painted and drew over a hundred works of art during his lifetime and we have a limited number of lithographs, photographs and boxing gloves signed by the champion.”
Demetrius Shipp – the actor portraying 2Pac in the upcoming biopic All Eyez On Me – is scheduled to be in attendance as well as other members of the movie’s cast.
“Our solicited collectors are individuals that sincerely cherish black culture. Their interest and participation will make this a monumental occasion,” adds Baker.
Alexander Historical Auctions’ “Black Heritage Auction” will take place at The Dumbo Loft in Brooklyn, New York starting at 2:00 pm.
Check out some of the items being presented at the auction in the gallery below.
The Benny Boom-directed film stars Demetrius Shipp, Jr. as Tupac, Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, Dominic L. Santana as Suge Knight, Jamal Woolard as The Notorious B.I.G., and Jamie Hector as Mutulu Shakur.
Being billed as “The Untold Story of Tupac Shakur,” All Eyez On Me chronicles the life of the late music legend.
In a 2014 interview with AllHipHop.com, the movie’s producer, L.T. Hutton, explained the biopic will focus on who Tupac Shakur was as a man, not just as an artist.
Hutton said:
What I’ve explained to everybody is that this won’t be a long music video. We cut a lot of that type of stuff, and got into exactly what you just asked for, because that’s what people want to see. What made him Tupac? We know the famous Tupac. We know all that. We’re going to give you a splash of that too, but we’re spending our chips on that drama of: Who is this guy? Where did he come from? Everything else is out there. You can find that, but what you can’t find is what made this guy who he is – that earlier part, 16, 17 years old.
He added:
That’s what I tried to explain to these executives that I worked with. If you’re not giving people information that they can’t go find themselves on YouTube, then there’s no reason to do the film. It has to give information and answer questions on culture. Nine times out of ten, people like Tupac experienced the same thing at the same time.
All Eyez On Me is scheduled for release on Tupac Shakur’s birthday of June 16.
(AllHipHop News) Many Hip Hop fans were patiently waiting for Kendrick Lamar’s musical return today (April 7).
That was the date K. Dot warned his peers to be wary of in his recent song “The Heart Part 4.”
When the clock struck midnight on the 7th, a new album from Kendrick did not arrive, but a pre-order option did pop up on iTunes.
However,Pitchfork reports the iTunes pre-order page does state the “expected release” date for the album is now April 14, 2017.
It also reveals the project has 14 tracks including the recently released single “HUMBLE.”
In addition, U2, BADBADNOTGOOD, DJ Dahi, The Alchemist, and 9th Wonder are named as contributors to the Lamar body of work currently only listed as ALBUM.
TDE label head Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith may have given a hint on Twitter for his followers to still keep an eye out for more news from Kendrick’s record company.
“Follow my ig gwadpot,” tweeted Tiffith.
Previously, Kendrick Lamar dropped the critically acclaimed albums Section.80, good kid, m.A.A.d city, and To Pimp a Butterfly.
The Compton emcee also released the Overly Dedicated mixtape in 2010 and the untitled unmastered compilation in 2016.
Lamar spoke about his latest LP in a March interview with New York Times Style Magazine.
“When I say ‘the little girl,’ it’s the analogy of accepting the moment when she grows up. We love women, we enjoy their company,” stated the 7-time Grammy winner. “At one point in time I may have a little girl who grows up and tells me about her engagements with a male figure — things that most men don’t want to hear. Learning to accept it, and not run away from it, that’s how I want this album to feel.”
(AllHipHop News) French Montana was forced to apologize for a clapback tweet directed at an African-American woman that criticized him on Twitter.
“U musty crusty dusty rusty ass hoe With them nappy ass poetic justice braids take your c## drinking D-ck banging ass somewhere n be humble,” tweeted the Bronx rapper on Wednesday night.
The next day – after significant backlash on the social media site for the perceived “racist” and “sexist” statement – French posted another tweet offering a mea culpa to anyone that may have been offended.
“My mother is african queen and I was married to a beautiful black queen,” wrote French. “All I did was defend myself if I affended [sic] anybody I apologize.”
In addition, The Breakfast Club spoke to French by phone to talk about the controversy.
“I never said nothing to black ladies,” insisted French.
He added, “I’m not from the era where anybody can say something to you and you don’t say nothing back.”
Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne Tha God pointed out that women likely took issue with French using the word “nappy” to describe the young woman’s hair.
“I said that to her,” French replied. “I love my queens. But I can’t take it when somebody tries to come at me.”
The Moroccan-born Coke Boys leader then stated, “I don’t know why it turned into like a racist thing. It’s other things to worry about that’s really racist in this country.”
While the social media dispute played out throughout Thursday, French began promoting his new songs “No Pressure” featuring Future and “Unforgettable” featuring Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd.
Sean Kingston is also being sued over $300,000 worth of chains was he claims were stolen during an altercation at L.A. nightclub Playhouse.
Kingston’s jewelry ended up being a central part of Meek Mill’s feud with Compton rapper Game, who accused the Philly rapper of “snitching” in relation to the stolen jewelry.
As for the latest lawsuit, Norman Silverman Diamonds is seeking the $46,000 plus interest and damages from Sean Kingston.
(AllHipHop News) Nate Dogg’s son was arrested on April 5 for selling Xanax.
The allegations against Naijiel Hale were levied after he was arrested with a football cohort named Darren Gardenhire and another student Christopher Flanagan.
The 21-year-old son of the legendary Hip-Hop singer was charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of dangerous drugs and two counts of felony distribution of dangerous drugs. The felonies carry a maximum sentence of life in prison, according to published reports.
Hale and his co-defendants are students at Montana State and were arrested as a part of a large drug sting by the Missouri River Drug Task Force. An informant allegedly set up a deal to buy Xanax from Hale. Hale then directed the informant to meet with Gardenhire. Gardenhire allegedly completed the transaction, as investigators watched. In an interview, Gardenhire told authorities that Hale was the actual dealer.
In another situation, another deal happened without Hale selling directly to the undercover operative, even though the alleged transaction happened in Hale’s house. Another person allegedly delivered the drugs.
In a search, authorities only found a small amount of marijuana. However, a search of Flanagan’s home turned up 355 Xanax pills, about 19 grams of mushrooms, LSD and other related items. Flanagan reportedly confessed to his role in dealing Xanax.
(AllHipHop Rumor) Guess who may be back in the lab?!
Rumor has it that Eminem may be releasing either a new album or single in 3 days! I could be wrong, but this time, it seems like Em wouldn’t be in to the surprise release thing.
I don’t know why I feel like there would be some sort of momentum building up to his next releases.
Do you even feel like Eminem needs to or has to release anymore albums? Has the legend emcee ran out of gas?
Some fans have even claimed that Em may be releasing an “okay” single ahead of a new album in May. They also swear that every time Eminem is spotted in a certain 7 Eleven, it means he’s cooking up in the studio because a studio that he uses is near it.
Eminem’s manager, Paul Rosenberg, also posted a photo with Eminem and captioned it,
“It’s been a long time… #7elevenseries”
Fans have been claiming that they see “April 9th” scribbled on Eminem’s hand in the photo, suggesting that that would be a release date! What are your thoughts?
(AllHipHop Rumors) Remy addresses a lot in this video. She talks about the ghost writing rumors, that Pap may have had some hand in “Shether.” She let that be known, that she has not used a ghost writer and posed the question who was writing all those years before she met Pap.
But…in talking, she went in on Nicki Minaj’s brother who is accused of touching underaged people in a sexual way. YIKES! She’s brutal.
Meanwhile in Nickiville, she revealed that her new video was on the way. She took the liberty to use a piece that shades Remy Ma and Papoose directly in “No Frauds.”
You think Nicki still winning? It seems like they are winning where they are. Remy is more underground and the people there love her. The people on the pop and commercial realm are all over Nicki. What say YOU?
(AllHipHop Rumors) For over a week now, BET fans are wondering what in the world is going on over there at the network.
It was announced that BET President of Programming, Stephen Hill and EVP Head of Original Programming Zola Mashariki would both be exiting the network.
Mashariki has since spoken out expressing that she was blindsided by the network’s shake-up and unaware of any such decisions as she was taking time off to cope with breast cancer.
One person not feeling BET’s decision is Nas’ manager, Anthony Saleh! Saleh took to Instagram to blast BET and the network’s chairman and CEO Debra Lee.
Saleh expressed frustration of selling Nas’ docu-series to the network and stated that they only did so because of former employee Zola, claiming that she was the only reason, and that she legitimized the place.
Saleh questioned how Lee could fire someone who was fighting for their life.
“This is the America I’m putting my energy towards. Debra Lee you have the audacity to do something so disgusting to someone fighting for their life. We discuss diversity amongst each other almost every day. Women & African Americans are two of the most deprived minority groups in this country & they are also the least likely to fight for one another. How could we ever allow someone fighting to live get news like this dumped on their f###### head. all you folks wanna have all these f-cking opinions about our president but don’t want to even look out for the person that looks like you, struggles like you & fought the same fights as you. This is one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever seen in my career. To my father & brother who gave their lives for me to have a shot at being great, to my family who has always supported me despite my absence, to my friends that have been patient with me… I apologize to you all. I let you down. I sold a show to WACK ASS BET. To @nas … I finally made my first mistake & it was a big one. I’m gonna walk with shame and humility publicly on this one but god knows I’m gonna do something about it. And to Zola …. we sold our show to you. You were the only reason & you legitimized that place. Watch my little ass take that f-cking place down. Save the opinions too. I ain’t having it today. Happy F-CKING FRIDAY!” said Saleh.
A lot of people can agree that BET has been doing great lately with it’s original programming, so it seems like the network would’ve actually been a great home for Nas’ series.
Many fans also felt that Nas should’ve taken his docu-series to Netflix, especially since he already has a relationship with them. Fans also didn’t waste the opportunity to pick at Nas once again for allegedly picking “bad beats” over the years. LOL. Anthony is fed up! What are your thoughts?
(AllHipHop Music)The Diirty OGz (Kurupt, Tray Deee, Tha Chill, Weazel Loc, and Kokane) make their return to AllHipHop.com with the exclusive premier of their brand new video, “G-Code”. The song and video is off of the group’s recently released album, We Got Now And Next, which has the veteran West Coast rappers playing individual characters as part of an album concept. “It’s definitely something that needs to be heard. It’s not a turn-up song but it’s the kind that you can lean back and listen to in a Cadillac,” said Tha Chill to AllHipHop.com in reference to “G-Code.” “We’ve got nothing against turn-up music but everything can’t be just that. At the same time, our tradition is the G-code and we’ve laid the foundation for that. People who are making music now, they followed what we were doing when they were coming up so we felt it was necessary to reinforce what the G-code is,” added Tray Deee.
The group had initially planned to release a movie along with the album and they may even revisit that in the future, but they still manage to act out some scenes in the new video. Adds group member Weazel Loc, “The visuals to the “G-Code” is dope because we’re downtown in L.A. and going through the streets. We’ve even got some acting parts in there where we’re showing you a robbery lick gone wrong. We’ve all done some acting, Kurupt with his films and Tray Deee with his Eastsidaz film.” “Hey, don’t forget Baby Boy and The Wash,” Tray Deee interjected. “And I’m the one who killed Kane in Menace II Society,” said Tha Chill in laughter. “Street cats like us, it translates well into those parts because we are authentic,” said Tray Deee.
The group also has new individual projects coming out. Kurupt informed us that there is a new Dogg Pound album on the way. “We are working on a new Dogg Pound album; Snoop, Daz, and myself. Snoop is real adamant about putting this album together correctly so he’s overseeing it all. I am also starting my new solo album which is being executive produced by The D.O.C. There’s a lot of good things going down,” said the West Coast veteran. Tray Deee is working on The General’s List II, a follow up to his 2002 release and establishing his Supreme Circle Music Group label where he will be overseeing the launching of new acts. Weazel Loc is preparing his solo release and just finished a movie script with Antwone Fisher, the screenwriter who rose to fame with his biopic movie Antwone Fisher starring Denzel Washington.
The really big news comes from Tha Chill as he revealed to exclusively to AllHipHop.com that his group Compton’s Most Wanted with MC Eiht has been working with longtime former rival DJ Quik on some new music. “Me and Eiht have been working and we’ve got DJ Quik heavily involved. We’ve been spending a lot of time with him and he’s been mixing and mastering different songs that maybe will turn into a new CMW album or not. I want to get DJ Slip, Mike T, and Boom-Bam involved with this record as it’s just Eiht, myself, and DJ Quik right now. Whatever comes out of this will be super for hip-hop and for Compton especially in reference to Quik and Eiht and the history behind our rivalry,” said Chill.
Check out that exclusive AllHipHop.com premier of The Diirty OG’z new video, “G-Code”.
(AllHipHop News) One of the most successful girl groups of all time is ready to mount a comeback with a new album.
TLC’s forthcoming fifth studio LP is set to arrive on June 30, but the Atlanta-based outfit is looking for help from their fans to come up with a name for the project.
The R&B/Pop/Hip Hop group’s manager, Bill Diggins, wrote the following update on Kickstarter:

The video and a photo shoot on April 18th, 19th, 20th. I hope that you all read the article in The Guardian last week on why TLC’s comeback is so important, it is a great read on the group that you love and you should be proud that you made this album happen. The Waterfall’s version from the voice was magical and received 40 million views in a week!! Ed Sheeran gave some of his publishing to the writers of No Scrubs and TLC sold out in London in one minute…it was a blessed month for us and we finally feel a little wind at our back.
ONE MORE THING….. We need your help…let’s hear your suggestions for the album title! Tionne and Chilli are still undecided so looking to you for inspiration.
This will be the first project recorded by the Grammy-winning group without the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
Left Eye died from a car accident in 2002, seven months before TLC’s 3D album was release.
During their run in the 1990’s, Lopes, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins created three multi-platinum LPs.
1994’s CrazySexyCool is certified Diamond with over 11 million units, and it is reported to be the best-selling album by an American female group in history.
(AllHipHop News) Rapper A$AP Rocky reportedly made his relationship with Kendall Jenner official in London last weekend.
According to editors at British newspaper The Sun, the “Wild for the Night” rapper attended rock band The Who’s Teenage Cancer Trust show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, with the statuesque model.
And after months of speculation, the couple allegedly didn’t hold back on the affection as they watched the show.
“Kendall and A$AP Rocky went to the Royal Albert Hall and made no secret of the fact they are a couple,” a source told The Sun. “There was a lot of touching going on. It wasn’t the behavior of two people who are just friends. Kendall seems very into him.”
A$AP and Kendall have been spotted hanging out together in Los Angeles and Paris on numerous occasions, but sources close to the stars claimed the rapper, real name Rakim Mayers, and the reality star were just friends.
The 21-year-old model and rapper were first snapped partying in Paris in June last year.
And last month (Mar17), the 28-year-old Harlem native was seen strolling through the streets of Paris during the city’s Haute Couture Fashion Week with the young star of the Kardashian-Jenner clan.
Kendall was also the guest of honor at his party last month, celebrating the Guess Originals x A$AP Rocky Guess Club collection, created by the denim giant and designed by the hip-hop and fashion star.
The rapper previously dated Kendall’s model pal Chanel Iman for a year, while Kendall has also been romantically linked to basketball player Jordan Clarkson.
One person who may not be so keen on revelation of the new romance is the rapper’s stepmother Kari Mayers.
Kari married Rakim’s late father Adrian in 1997 and the pair went on to have six sons together. In an interview with Daily Mail Online she slammed the Kardashian family calling them a “bad family” and insisted that he “can do so much better”.
“Everything I hear about the Kardashians makes me think they are a bad family for Rakim to be involved with,” Kari told Daily Mail Online when asked about the rumors last year. “I don’t want him being dragged into that circus, he is too good for that and can do so much better.”
(AllHipHop Rumors) Troy Ave has had his differences with a number of individuals, and now you can add fellow New York rapper Mysonne to the list.
Remember Troy Ave has had various beefs with Joey Badazz, Young Lito, Ransom, Casanova2X, and Ab-Soul, and Mysonne is saying enough is enough!
Apparently Mysonne is taking issue with the fact that he feels that Troy perpetuates a lifestyle that he isn’t even about.
“I wouldn’t be who I am if I didn’t just come out and say that Troy Ave is a f-cking bozo. But, you know, like a real bozo! Like when you sit there and you keep watching somebody perpetuate a lifestyle, then some type of attitude, that you know they’re not really like that,” said Mysonne.
Mysonne is also frustrated with Troy’s fans and the media for continuously giving Troy Ave a platform to show off his artificial gangster.
Mysonne says he’s been trying to focus on uniting more of New York artists, but he can’t stand for the fake. Mysonne says that he’s a real n-gga and has lived a real n-gga lifestyle, and that he knows Troy Ave is fake and putting on a fake persona.
A lot of these rappers are actors though. LOL. I would’ve been a lot happier if Mysonne challenged Troy Ave to use his platform to push positivity though. I’m willing to bet that it was Ave’s Tupac comparison [to himself] that sent Mysonne over the edge. Ninja ain’t nowhere near a second coming of Pac. Carry on!
(AllHipHop News) Terrence Howard is moving into the young adult market by joining the cast of Jaden Smith and Cara Delevigne’s new film “Life in a Year.”
The actor is known for his more gritty roles in films like his Oscar-nominated turn in “Hustle & Flow” and on TV in hip-hop drama series “Empire,” but now he is set to star as Jaden’s no-nonsense father in the upcoming romantic drama, about 17-year-old Daryn who desperately attempts to help his dying girlfriend Isabelle experience their dream life together in 12 months.
Jaden and British beauty Cara will portray the young lovers.
Icelandic actor Stony Blyden has also been added to the cast in a supporting role as Daryn’s best friend..
Letters to Santa moviemaker Mitja Okorn will direct the project, from a script by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews.
Executives at Overbrook Entertainment, the firm owned by Jaden’s movie star dad Will Smith, will co-produce the film, which will begin shooting this spring.
(AllHipHop News) Prolific lyricist Talib Kweli dropped into Red Bull Studios Auckland to take part in David Dallas’ “64 Bars” project.
Video of the performance first premiered on Facebook last July, but the clip has now been uploaded to YouTube.
Kweli used his 64 bars to make references to What’s Happening!!, Michael Jackson, Hip Hop culture, Futurama, the African diaspora, and a lot more.
The emcee/record label executive/activist is currently getting ready to hit the road for concert dates in New Haven, Atlanta, DC, Kansas City, Oakland, and Durham.
Fans will get to see the Javotti Media head perform in his hometown of New York City for shows at the Brooklyn Bowl as well.
Kweli is also in the process of promoting Javotti artist K’Valentine’s Here For A Reason scheduled for release on April 7.
“I’ve always liked hearing an artist go into a radio show – kick a new verse on air, and kill it. Overseas there’s things like Sway’s 5 Fingers of Death freestyles or Charlie Sloth’s Fire in the Booth. We didn’t really have an outlet like that in New Zealand anymore, so we created one,” said Dallas.

(AllHipHop Features) Raised in Lake Orion and artistically reared in Detroit, Nate Nixon is on pace to be the next rap figure to rise from Michigan.
The 19-year-old rhymer garnered internet attention with his #First59 mini-music videos on Instagram. One of those clips even included bars by Detroit Pistons player Andre Drummond which led to articles about the collaboration being posted across the Hip Hop blogosphere and on sports media outlets.
It was social media that also played a large role in Nixen connecting with the growing Culture Republic company – the home of buzzing Southern emcee Nick Grant. According to Nate, it was a simple direct message that ignited his association with Jason Geter’s lifestyle brand.
“I’ve had a pretty good track record when it comes to identifying young talent and I feel like Nate definitely possesses that superstar dynamic,” states Geter, the co-founder of Grand Hustle Records along with Atlanta rap legend Tip “T.I.” Harris.
Nixen returns the love, “Geter is the man. He’s a smart guy with a lot of wisdom and a great spirit. The way he moves with artists just seemed like the right fit and I’ve just been trying to soak up as much game as I can from the O.G.”
In the latest edition of AllHipHop.com’s “Three Questions” series, Nate Nixen chats about Snoop Dogg’s debut LP, his favorite Detroit rap songs, and potentially meeting The Throne. Get to know the emerging spitter and skateboard enthusiast a little better in this exclusive Q&A.
If you could go back in time and personally witness any moment in Hip Hop history, which moment would you pick and why?
The release of Doggystyle by Snoop. That is my favorite album that came before my time. I wish I could have felt the energy when it was initially released.
If you were only able to listen to five songs from Detroit Hip Hop artists for the rest of your life, which songs would you pick?
“My Name Is” by Em, “Two Can Win” by J-Dilla/Big Sean, “Boy Would You” by Blade Icewood, “Try Me” by DeJ Loaf, and “D-Boy” by Big Sean, HBK, Dusty McFly & SAYITAINTTONE. All classic Detroit sh-t.
You’re given a choice between traveling for a week with [skateboarding legends] Rodney Mullen and Tony Hawk or spending ten minutes in the same room with Kanye West and Jay Z, which would be your first choice?
Kanye and Hov of course. I idolize them guys. I would kill to see their writing and recording process. However, I would invite Rodney and Tony to the studio. [laughs]
