(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rap star Jermaine Dupri is heading into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

This year’s inductees were announced yesterday, and the hit hip-hop producer is in good company.

John Cougar Mellencamp, Alan Jackson and Kool & the Gang are also going into the Songwriters Hall of Fame during the June 14th ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Jermaine Dupri is definitely worthy of the honor.

In his 28-year career, JD has churned out #1 hits for artists like Kris Kross Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Aaliyah, and Migos, in addition to having a successful career as a solo artist and as the owner of So So Def Records.

“The 2018 roster of Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees is a prodigious representation of creators of cross-genre hits, certain to resonate with everyone,” said SHOF co-chairs Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff and president/CEO Linda Moran. “Each year, the slate of songwriters we induct is more diverse and illustrative of the history and contributions that we strive to acknowledge and honor. We could not be more excited to preside over this year’s event and to give these songwriters their due respect.”

The news of Jermaine Dupri’s inclusion in this year’s class marks the second time a hip-hop artist has made the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Last year, Roc Nation boss Jay-Z became the first ever hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

(AllHipHop News) Beyonce is the first woman to have three albums surpass one billion Spotify streams.

The singer’s 2011 album 4 has now hit the one billion mark on the streaming service, seven years after its release.

On Monday, Beyonce’s critically acclaimed studio album 4 joined I Am… Sasha Fierce and Beyonce as one of the singer’s three albums to have a collected a billion streams each on the service.

The 36-year-old, who is the only musician to have had their first six albums debut at Number 1 in the U.S. charts, is now the first woman to have three of her albums surpass one billion Spotify streams.

According to stats, 4’s most popular tracks include “Run the World (Girls)” and “Love On Top” which together accounts for a huge 400 million streams.

The singer’s achievement is even more impressive as she is a part-owner of husband Jay-Z’s Tidal streaming service, which is where her 2016 album Lemonade, which has yet to be added to Spotify, was released first.

She withheld Beyonce from the streaming site, where she has over 31 million monthly listeners, for almost a year.

Tidal has a 42 million song catalog and is available in 52 countries, but is currently much less widely used than services from Spotify and Apple.

In 2016, the singer was the highest-paid musician in the world, earning $62.5 million.

Only $1.9 million of her income came from streaming, the majority was earned via her Formation World Tour.

(AllHipHop News) Lil Uzi Vert dropped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday evening. One day after his hometown team, the Philadelphia Eagles, won the Super Bowl, Uzi performed “The Way Life Goes” on the CBS program.

“The Way Life Goes” lives on the Luv Is Rage 2 album. Besides the Don Cannon/Ike Beatz produced single, the LP also hosts Lil Uzi’s 5-time platinum smash “XO Tour Llif3.”

Additionally, the 23-year-old Generation Now signee is coming off earning two Grammy nominations. Uzi was up for the coveted Best New Artist award, but Alessia Cara took home the honor.

He also got a Best Rap Performance nod for his contribution to Migos’ “Bad And Boujee.” The Recording Academy recognized Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” for that award.

(AllHipHop News) China Mac, a popular underground rapper, was charged with crimes after he was among roughly 60 people arrested with real and fake guns in New York City.

The bust happened on a building on the Lower East Side resulting in the arrest of China Mac and his crew. They were charged with trespassing after somebody climbed on a public restroom to film a music video for the rapper, real name Raymond Yu.

Police interrupted the shoot about 6:15 pm Saturday, causing some of the people to flee the authorities from the Baruch Houses in Manhattan, one report.

Police found two imitation rifles and one real gun on the scene.

(AllHipHop News) Jimmy “Peewee Roscoe” Winfrey was convicted of firing at Lil Wayne’s tour bus in April 2015. After pleading guilty to six charges, the associate of Birdman and Young Thug was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Winfrey appealed the sentence and conviction by claiming his original judge was too involved in his plea negotiations making that plea agreement “involuntary.” The AJC reports the case is now headed to the Georgia Supreme Court.

Authorities believe Winfrey was driving a white Camaro when he shot at the tour bus traveling on I-285. The attack was allegedly connected to a Bloods Gang dispute and meant to help Peewee gain “street cred.”

No one was injured during the shooting. The bus supposedly suffered over $20,000 worth of damage.

(AllHipHop News) Will Packer is the producer behind motion pictures such as Stomp the Yard, Takers, Ride Along, Straight Outta Compton, and Girls Trip. While Packer is praised by some for employing black talent in commercially successful movies, Mo’Nique added the filmmaker as a target in her crusade against Hollywood.

The comedienne posted an Instagram video where she accused Packer of trying to “intimidate” her, “bully” her, and “ruin her character.” Mo’Nique worked with the producer in 2016’s Almost Christmas.

Fellow comic Gary Owen took issue with Mo’Nique’s message. He posted his own IG video and the clip’s caption reads, “I’m not gonna sit back & let ppl slander my [friend’s] name. Not cool. [Mo’Nique] went [too] far with this one.”

Owen says in his IG video, “She blames everybody… Will Packer has done more for black actors and actresses than just about anybody in the past 10 years.” The stand-up veteran and Packer worked together on Ride Along, Think Like A Man, and Think Like a Man Too.

Packer left a comment under Owen’s post that included some shade directed at Mo’Nique. He wrote, “If you choose to have someone speak for you that damages your relationships in this industry…that’s YOUR fault. No one else’s.”

This was not the first time Gary Owen took aim at Mo’Nique. He previously mocked her video calling for a boycott of Netflix over what she perceived as racial and gender bias in contract negotiations.

(AllHipHop News) Justin Timberlake’s halftime performance at this year’s Super Bowl was met with mixed reviews. The lackluster response led to some viewers wondering if another artist should have been given the chance to entertain the crowd at the big game.

There’s still a year before Super Bowl LIII takes place at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but questions about who will follow Timberlake for the 50-yard line showcase are already being asked. Bruno Mars has an idea for the National Football League.

(AllHipHop News) Migos continue to make history with their latest album Culture II. The Atlanta trio joined only four other rap groups to have more than one #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.

According to the publication, Migos have also tied the Beatles for the most simultaneous songs on the Hot 100 by a group. The two acts sit alone with 14 entries landing on the chart at the same time.

Thirteen of Migos’ current charting tracks are off Culture II. The other entry is a feature on Gucci Mane’s “I Get The Bag.”

The Beatles had held the Hot 100 group record by themselves since April 11, 1964. Drake commands the overall record because of his 24 songs occupying a spot on the chart in April 2017.

(AllHipHop News) Kodak Black and his legal team are hoping to catch a break, after controversial comments a judge made shortly before sending the rapper to jail.

On January 18, Kodak Black’s plush house in Pembroke Pines was raided, and the rapper was hit with seven felony charges after cops found guns and marijuana in the residence.

On January 19, Judge Joel Lazarus ordered Kodak to be held with no bond, just minutes after he made the controversial comments.

According to reports, a Broward County Chief Judge has barred Judge Lazarus from presiding over first appearance court and the criminal court over the statements.

Kodak and his lawyers are considering their legal options, which could see the rapper released from jail as he awaits trial for his latest charges.

As for the house, Kodak was renting it and the one-year lease has expired and the landlord was very pleased, since the rapper damaged the home, in addition to having the property raided.

(AllHipHop News) A man being identified as Eastside Peezy was shot and wounded in Detroit over the weekend.

The rap star was shot and critically injured, while he was leaving a house on the Eastside of Detroit.

Unknown gunmen in a silver Yukon fired multiple shots at the rapper, which struck him in the head.

The 28-year-old rapper is currently in the hospital, listed in critical condition.

In December of 2016, Eastside Peezy and nine people were indicted for racketeering, for allegedly being members of the 6 Mile Chedda Grove street gang.

Police are currently looking for suspects.

(AllHipHop News) Dreamville Records artist Cozz is getting prepared to drop his studio album Effected on February 13. The California emcee also known as Cody Macc called on some big names for the project.

The upcoming effort will feature a Jxmmi project (Jxmtroduction), a Swae Lee project (Swaecation), and a Rae Sremmurd project. Mike Will revealed on Twitter the 3-part concept was inspired by OutKast’s Grammy-winning double LP Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
