T.I. Responds To Raven-Symoné’s Critical Instagram Post About Rappers

(AllHipHop News) Raven-Symoné again found herself catching heat from the public over the weekend. The 32-year-old actress upset some Instagram users when she reposted a message from Speech of Arrested Development.

Speech blasted attendees at the recent Roc Nation brunch by referring to them as “so-called ‘successful’ Black men.” He also slammed them for supposedly “perpetuating the worst Black stereotypes.” The photo featured prominent Hip Hop figures such as Jay-Z, Diddy, T.I., Swizz Beatz, DJ Khaled, Jim Jones, Big Sean, and Yo Gotti.

For her repost, Raven-Symoné added three emojis, one of which was a yellow heart. After receiving hundreds of negative comments under the picture, the Raven’s Home star deleted the image and then cut off the comments for all of her posts.

T.I. got wind of Raven’s message and fired back on his own Instagram page. The Hustle Gang leader wrote, “Our sins ain’t no greater than yours ma’am. The air must be thin as hell up there on that high horse you sittin on. Somebody please let me know…WTF up wit shawty?”

Previously, Tip was a supporter of a controversial opinion Raven-Symoné conveyed back in 2014. The Us or Else creator stated that Raven had an “incredible point” when The View panelist declared she didn’t want to be labeled African-American.

Stars React To Philadelphia Eagles Winning Super Bowl LII

(AllHipHop News) Last night, the Philadelphia Eagles won their first Super Bowl by defeating the New England Patriots 41–33. Stars of sports and Hip Hop hopped on social media to share their reactions to the Eagles lifting up the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Philly natives such as Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Lil Uzi Vert, Eve, and Cassidy were excited to see their home team earn the victory. Incarcerated Philadelphian Meek Mill also got a lot of love online following the Pats loss.

Judge Who Sentenced Meek Mill To Prison “Not Doing Well”

(AllHipHop News) The nationwide coverage surrounding Meek Mill’s prison sentence is apparently taking its toll on the judge presiding over the case.

Judge Genece Brinkley has been the subject of national headlines after she sent Meek to prison for violating the terms of his 2008 probation for a drug and gun conviction.

Meek’s lawyer Joseph Tacopina maintains the judge send him to jail after he refused to sign a deal to leave Roc Nation Management, in favor of a deal with local veteran Charlie Mack.

Meek also maintains Judge Genece Brinkley ordered him to record a tribute song in her honor and retaliated against him when he refused the request.

Celebrities and activists like Jay-Z, Rev. Al Sharpton, and Colin Kaepernick denounced the judge and the prison sentence.

All of the negative publicity has had an impact on the judge according to her new lawyer A. Charles Peruto Jr.

“She’s not doing well. This has really affected her,” Peruto told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Even though the trial is taking a toll on Judge Genece Brinkley, she obviously has no plans to step down.

“She conducted hearing after hearing after hearing before she gave him a two-year sentence,” A. Charles Peruto Jr. said. “It’s not like she rushed to judgment.”

In fact, she hired Peruto to defend herself from public allegations his lawyer have been making, claiming court transcripts she was attempting to extort the rapper.

Those claims were given some serious credibility, after one of Judge Genece Brinkley’s Court Clerk’s admitted to asking Meek for money, during his sentencing hearing.

Wanda Chavarria admitted she slipped Meek a letter as he was being sentenced, while requesting college tuition money for her son.

Chavarria was fired from her position, but Meek’s lawyers maintain the attempt to get money from the rapper is proof of an overall conspiracy.

Meek Mill’s lawyer Joseph Tacopina welcomed any legal action Judge Genece Brinkley may initiate.

“We look forward to a lawsuit from the judge and taking this to court, where she will have to be deposed under oath and speak the truth,” he said in an email. “We are not shocked that Judge Brinkley has resorted to this tactic.”

Drake Ties A Record Set By The Beatles With “God’s Plan”

(AllHipHop News) Drake continues to bully the Billboard charts, by setting another record.

According to new sales data, Drake has tied The Beatles as the only other act with at least 20 Hot 100 Top 10s, in a single decade.

Drake’s latest singles “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity” add to his long line of his over the past 10 years.

The rapper’s run up Top 10 hits started in 2010 with his single “Find Your Love,” which hit #5 in July of that year.

Since then, the rapper has consistently churned out Top 10 singles like “What’s My Name,” “F**kin’ Problems,” “Work” “One Dance” and others.

Billboard is expecting for Drake to surpass The Beatles at some point over the next two years to claim most Top 10 singles in a single decade, ever.

Last week it was revealed the singles “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity,” from his EP “Scary Hours” broke one-day sales records on both Spotify and Apple.

Super Bowl Mania: How We Failed Colin Kaepernick

By Chuck Creekmur

(AllHipHop Opinion) The Philadelphia Eagles are my team.

https://instagram.com/p/BetWs15Bl-X/

I have not watched the National Football League at all this year and I am a devoutiii fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Birds are going to the Super Bowl this year (the first time in 13 years), but I stand in solidarity with those that uphold “what was on the paper,” as MLK said. The right to protest is a divine right and a principle that this nation was founded on. Do I want to talk trash to the dirty, stinkin’ fans of the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants? Sure I do! But I also want Colin Kaepernick to have the right to bring awareness to police brutality and injustice through peaceful protest more. Honestly, I am not sure where I will be with this boycott come next year. Most people don’t care. It may just be time to pop that blue pill and I don’t mean Viagra. If you don’t get it: I AM NOT WATCHING THE SUPER BOWL.

What has happened to the masses that started the NFL season out full of rage has turned into a boycott that would make Martin Luther King, Jr. go on a Twitter rant if he were here today. In another lifetime, people would stand side-by-side and hold hands singing a Negro spiritual in support of somebody Black being treated wrong. Not today. Today, people of color have willingingly allowed the “owners” in the NFL to claim the victory even if their team sucked pigskin juice like Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. Remember when he told his bucks, I mean, boys they ‘BET NOT think of doing a “Kaepernick“? And they didn’t. They eventually did some sort of kneeling prayer to quell the boycott that really had picked up steam and impacted ratings. It was one of the most disingenuous acts I’ve ever seen.

I can’t lie.

I felt alone. My friends and fellow Eagles fans have bombarded me with texts and DM’s, cheering with gifs and messages. Honestly, if integrity and resolve were water, we’d all be dead of dehydration. Football is more important than Black lives, opposing police brutality and raging against racial injustice. I get it. We were unable to last a single season and stand with a man that just gave $1 million to various groups committed to working in the ‘hood. On top of that, he commandeered other celebrities to match his donations, which were given in increments of $10,000. People like Snoop Dogg, Serena Williams, Kevin Durant and others gave to those community organizations. For the record, All Lives Matter did not give anything whatsoever.

Maybe I am not alone.

I had to go to Google to see that Marc Lamont Hill, a scholar, businessman and die-hard Eagles fan like myself, was not watching the Super Bowl either. “Absolutely,” he responded. He told Newsday:“It wouldn’t be a protest if I only did it when it was easy. It’d be like a hunger strike right after you’ve eaten. Now is the test.” My brother Johnathan solidified what I already knew: we are red pill type of men. And if you do not know “The Matrix,” that means we refuse to ignore what is going on across the board. It can be quite annoying, but what would Tamir Rice, Jordan Davis, Sandra Bland, Aiyana Stanley-Jones and so many more people want me to do? What would they want us to do? I really enjoy football, as it is one of the few activities that take me out of the rat race, but I cannot care more about a game that serves mostly to line the pockets of ridiculously rich, White men. It also takes our eyes off the pain and the real prize.

Kaepernick is really just a high-end case of buck breaking. If you’ve never heard of the term, google it. In short, it comes from the days of Black enslavement where a rebellious African was brutalized in front of the other Africans and made into an example. The rebel was typically the biggest, baddest of man of those in captive and his decimation struck fear in those with less fire in the belly. Some pockets of rebellion still exist, as with The Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins, but most players have opted to fall in line and play ball.

Where does it all end?

I don’t really know, to be honest. There are times when I look at my life path and feel I should have just sold out for the money. And then, somebody will tell me something insanely profound like “AllHipHop saved my life.” Collectively and as individuals, “we” say (tweet, DM, IG) we want to improve the state of the country and the experience poor and disenfranchised people have, but then we fail to grab a surfboard and just ride the existing wave. It costs you nothing to not watch football. In fact, you could make money with that time.

I have nothing more to say really In closing. I just know that as a young man, I thought things would be better by now. I really hate racism. I really love football. But…I simply don’t love it more than my people.

No matter what, things will never be the same.

Go, Green. 🤢

The Rose That Grew From Concrete

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?

Proving nature’s law is wrong it
learned to walk without having feet.

Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.

Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

Judge Sends Suge Knight’s Fiance To Jail For Three Years

(AllHipHop News) Marion “Suge” Knight’s ex-fiance is heading to jail for her role in helping secure an interview for the upcoming docu-series “Death Row Chronicles.”

Toi-Lin Kelly will spend the next three years in prison, for putting so get in touch with two producers who have also been subpoenaed.

Suge has been held in solitary confinement since January of 2015, as he awaits an April murder trial.

A judge barred Suge from having communication with anyone except his attorney representing him for his upcoming trial for 2015 murder of Terry Carter, and the attempted murder of his associate, Cle “Bone ” Sloan.

Toi-Lin Kelly violated that order by arranging the interview for the producers, who were subpoenaed last week over their communication with the former Death Row Records CEO.

Prosecutors maintain say Suge, his lawyer Matthew Fletcher and Kelly conspired to leak the field video for $55,000.

In October Toi-Lin Kelly, was sentenced to five years of probation in the case and she was also ordered to pay $55,000 in restitution.

“To me, it’s pretty blatant, and frankly, jaw-dropping,” a judge told Toi-Lin Kelly, referencing his earlier sentence of probation over the leaked footage to TMZ.

Despite Toi-Lin Kelly pleas to the court for mercy for the sake of her eight-year-old son, a judge slapped her with the three-year prison sentence for helping to arrange the interview with Suge.

Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Big Show Axed Over Sexual Assault Charge

(AllHipHop News) Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine’s sexual assault case is already hurting his business.

The rapper was booked to play a major show at the Easton’s One Centre Square on February 9, however, organizers have nixed the show as Tekashi awaits sentencing for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.

“Subsequent to booking the musical artist Tekashi 6ix9ine, we became aware of details regarding a criminal proceeding involving the artist,” a representative for Easton’s One Centre Square said in a statement.

This information led to the cancellation of the date, which was supposed to be Tekashi’s second engagement on his first headlining tour.

Organizers for the concert said they were firm in their decision, even though the “Gummo” rapper is due to play a number of major venues over the next month.

“Despite the fact that artist is scheduled to perform at a number of reputable venues including a college facility, the University of South Florida’s Sun Dome later this month, we have decided to cancel the concert,” representatives for Easton’s One Centre Square said.

The Brooklyn rapper, born Daniel Hernandez, pleaded guilty to charges of sexual misconduct with a child, relating to the assault of a 13-year-old girl during a party.

Police charged Tekashi after they found three videos of the nude teenagers sitting on his lap.

In published interviews, Tekashi has stated he thought the girl was much older.

“She asked me how old I was, and I told her I was 18, and I assumed she was older, the way she was asking made me think she was older,” Tekashi claimed.

Tekashi 6ix9ine was originally supposed to be punished for the charge on earlier this week, but the sentencing date was pushed back until April 10.

“As we learned more about the unsettling incident in question, we no longer found the artist to be a suitable performer for our venue and we obviously do not condone his behavior in the incident,” the rep for Easton’s One Centre Square continued. “We refrained from earlier comment on the issue until we formalized the cancellation with the artist’s representatives.”

If Tekashi 6ix9ine is convicted of the three counts of sexual misconduct with a child., he is facing anywhere from one to three years in prison.

Pharrell’s Manager Wants Grammy President To Step Down

(AllHipHop News) A growing chorus of powerful women in the music industry are calling for the removal of the President of the Grammys.

The manager of rap star Pharrell Williams is among the women leading the charge, over comments Neil Portnow made on the red carpet of the 60th annual Grammy Awards last weekend.

During an interview with Variety, Neil Portnow was discussing women in the music industry, when he chose a terrible choice of words to deliver a message to women in the music business.

“It has to begin with women who have the creativity in their hearts and their souls, who want to be musicians, who want to be engineers, who want to be producers, who want to be part of the industry on an executive level, to step up,” Neil Portnow told the magazine. The comments sparked an immediate backlash from a variety of well known female artists, including P!nk, Vanessa Carlton and India Arie.

Pharrell’s manager Caron Veazey is among the powerful women who have drafted a letter urging Portnow to step down immediately.

“We need a leader to think outside of the metaphorical box and start demanding all voices be heard,” reads the draft, which was obtained by NBC News.

Additionally, the women are calling for an overhaul of the Grammy process, after the most recent awards show.

Many fans were dismayed at the fact that only one woman, Alessia Cara, took home a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Additionally, many fans were shocked that Jay-Z went 0 for 8, after releasing one of the year’s best, and most critically acclaimed albums, 4:44.

Neil Portnow issued an apology, saying he realized the “hurt” his “poor choice of words” caused.

“I also now realize that it’s about more than just my words. Because those words, while not reflective of my beliefs, echo the real experience of too many women. I’d like to help make that right,” Neil Portnow said.

However, his apology has not been enough to quell the backlash and there is currently a petition circulating which has 11,000 signatures in support of the 70-year-old President’s resignation.

Earlier this week, India.Arie pending open letter to Neil Portnow over his comments.

“Neil Portnow is mistaken. His statements are a mess, but I get why he can’t empathize with women and women of color. HE is saying, the more women there are, the more chances women have to WIN,” India.Arie said. “BUT. WE NEED MORE WOMEN, more WOMEN OF COLOR AND MORE INCLUSIVE MINDED PEOPLE in positions of power, in the rooms where decisions are made.
