Earlier this week, Apple Music released a commercial for Mary J. Blige’s new series with the company, “The 411.” The series takes after the title of Blige’s first album “What’s The 411.”
In the clip, Blige serenaded Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton with “American Skin” by Bruce Springsteen.
This song is about Guinean immigrant Amadou Diallo being gunned down by New York police in 1999.
Although the lyrics of the song still hold true to what’s going on with police brutality and injustice in the United States today, viewers felt pretty awkward while watching the clip.
Mary experienced much ridicule and became the subject of a few clever memes as a result of the clip.
During a press run for her upcoming show, Blige defends herself by explaining that by being a singer first, she just did what came naturally to her.
“I wanted to incorporate the song in the show because the lyrics resonated with me so deeply and so heavily because of all the shootings and police brutality and I never got a chance to say anything. I’m a singer first …so that’s the only way I can express myself and …the only way I can get that reaction from (Hillary) is to sing it.”
Many felt the moment was forced, but according to Mary it was an organic moment that she believes Hillary felt. Do you think Hillary was feeling it?
Well, we’ll never have to sit through this awkward moment again as Mary vows to never sing to any of her other guests. Mary was pretty fed up as she also tweeted and deleted a message to her critics telling everyone to shut the f*ck up!
Today, September 30, 2016 Freddie Gibbs was found not guilty. We have always maintained unconditionally and without any doubt that Freddie would be and now has been fully exonerated and completely vindicated. We are pleased and thankful that the court recognized the same trust and confidence we and all of his fans have had in Freddie that justified and resulted in his absolute acquittal. Immediately after his acquittal I spoke with Freddie who expressed his deeply sincere, heartfelt gratitude and thanks to his fiancé Erica Dickerson for her unwavering support, for the steadfast and incomparable loyalty of his long time friend and manager Ben “Lambo” Lambert, for the extraordinary work and effort of his lawyers and for the overwhelming outpouring of love he has received from his fans. He says, “Thank you!”
While we are appreciative of the verdict of not guilty, nothing has changed. The actual facts have always demonstrated that Freddie was and is 100% innocent. It is now self-evident he was wrongly accused. The trial has confirmed our belief that after a searching and complete investigation and trial the true and actual facts would be revealed – that there always was an absence of any scientific, physical, or credible evidence that would warrant in any way such an accusation. Freddie and his family look forward to returning to the States so he can resume his life and career.
Gibbs was arrested in Toulouse, France in June. Austria then sought to extradite him to the country to face accusations of an alleged rape from 2015.
Gibbs’ manager, Ben Lambert, also addressed the not guilty verdict on Instagram.
Lambert wrote:
The truth has come to light. Freddie has been acquitted of the false accusations. He’s coming home a free man. Thank you to everyone who has been by our side these past 4 months, sending us good vibes, praying for us. Thank God. To new beginnings…

(AllHipHop News) Chicago conscious MC Common recently held a Twitter Q&A, in which he addressed current issues with race relations, police brutality, the upcoming election and much more.
Fans were able to post their questions for the artist using the #askCommon hashtag.
During the Q&A, the rapper tackled the current issue of police brutality in the nation by stating that more citizens from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities need to make their voices heard in protest.
“For issues like police brutality and black people being killed by police, it’s not just a black problem its an American problem, because we are Americans, So yes we need Americans from any nationality to step up and speak,” Common explained.
Despite the current issues that Black Americans are faced with and the historic system of oppression within the nation, Common still believes that true equality is within our grasps.
“Yes it is realistic to actually progress from what the system has done and how the system is built,” the rapper confidently declared.
He then added: “The system acknowledging that its built on oppression is one important thing and as we move forward we will make those changes.”
During the digital discussion, when he was asked who he would be voting for in the upcoming election, the artist did not give any names, but indicated that he’d be voting for the most qualified and logical person to lead the nation.
The rappers discussion on the social platform follows the release of the video for his “Black America Again,” track which touches on police violence and features appearances from celebrities like Stevie Wonder.

“Luke Cage” is dense. As thick as the character’s skin is, the story layers are even thicker. Luke Cage is a Marvel character that goes back to the 1970’s, but has gotten a fresh coat of new for 2016 thanks to actor Mike Colter, show runner Cheo Coker and many others that have convened to release this Netflix series. While there are a number of Marvel series, Luke Cage is a unique character with a very specific set of circumstances.
Cage is the Marvel’s first leading African American super hero with a cast to match. Many Marvel heroes dwell in New York City, but Cage has the distinction of having Harlem as the backdrop. The show premiers today on Netflix and already developed a raucous fanbase. Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi and even “Daredevil” star Rosario Dawson star in “Luke Cage” co-star in the latest addition to the Marvel Universe.
AllHipHop sat with Colter and Coker about some of the deeper implications that “Luke Cage” is about, as well as some of the most fun facets of the show.
Cheo Coker: Lets just say, it’s a fascinating time to have a bullet poof black man in the world. So, that’s the thing. One of the things that I thought about the series, as an overall theme was when you look at neighborhoods – people step aside or don’t step up because of the consequences. There’s this whole thing, it’s been around for years, the whole concept of no snitching. Why don’t people snitch? Snitches not only get stitches – they get bullets. So what happens if you introduce a bulletproof Black man to a situation? How does that affect how the cops deal with the situation? How does that affect how the criminals deal with the situation? How does that affect the overall community in terms of how they deal with how they step up. And if this hero is reluctant, about being a hero…how does that help him when he thinks about it come into this mantle of responsibility? Because it’s not necessarily a responsibility people want. All of these issues, we deal with in the context of the Marvel Universe. Mind you, this was written last August or September.
Mike Colter: Well, it’s timely. There’s no agenda. Obviously, Marvel is a universe all into itself. It so happens to be this is the story we are telling at this time and it’s really timely. You talk about “bulletproof Black man” and all that stuff…I look at it like one of those things like…Luke Cage is a guy that he doesn’t want to solve problems with violence. His bulletproof skin, his impenetrable skin allows him to have a voice and not be afraid. There’s a difference between using your powers to invoke something and manipulate a situation and it’s another thing to give yourself the space to speak. Because he doesn’t have to be afraid anymore. He’s afraid of his past, but he’s not afraid of cops. He’s not afraid of bad guys. He can deal with it. It’s an idea we are just starting to explore frankly and hopefully it opens another conversation, because it’s a conversation that has to be had. It’s something that ultimately is gonna have to bring both sides together. Because people think there’s two sides, there’s the cops and there’s the criminals. No even criminals. There are the cops and the suspects or perceived suspects. There has to be a connection right now because everybody thinks there on a side. Really, we’re all one. But right now there is a fear because of the unknown. Right now we have to bridge that gap and I think Luke Cage is the kind of person that, he deals with both sides. He’s able to expand to walk into the neighborhood and talk to the guy on the corner and, at the same time, he can go and talk to the cops.
Cheo Coker: Its no accident that Luke Cage wears hoodies because of what happened to Trayvon Martin. My first reaction with my kids when [they] saw some of the initial things we had planned for Luke Cage, they were like “Well, Daddy, why’s he dressed like a thug?” And, I’m like “I’ve worn hoodies for 25, 30 years – for a while! I wanted people to understand that you cannot judge a book by its cover. That heroes wear hoodies too. We wanted to show that, yes, this hero exists in the world of now. There’s now way we could have anticipated things being the way they are right now, but at the same time, we didn’t want to get so mired down in all the politics that it got in the way of telling a good story.
Was the old Luke Cage from the 1970’s corny and we didn’t know it?
Cheo Coker: You know what it is? You might be with your parents and somebody say “solid.” They might say expressions that for their generation that was the expression. I can’t say “lit.” To me, things are “dope.” I’m older. So it isn’t that Luke was corny, it literally is Luke Cage was Marvel’s reflection of Blaxploitation [movies]. In the same way Shaft, Sweet Sweetback and Superfly came out, which also debuted in 1973. The Marvel offices were in Times Square. All those movies were in Times Square. They were like, “Well, this is happening. Why don’t we have a letter that reflect that and comes directly from that?” All Blaxploitation is honestly is Black male characters that are able to act as assertively as their white counterparts.
I like that yall made Luke a ladies man!
Mike Colter: That’s his weakness. He likes to explore the ladies. He’s a widower. That’s how he copes.
Cheo Coker: He’s a complicated man! [laughs]

She went as far as accusing rappers Lil’ Yachty, Lil’ Uzi Vert, and Carti of jacking her son’s style. She even went as far as saying,

(AllHipHop News) Super producer Mario Winans is free on $250,000 bail, after admitting to stiffing the IRS out of over $400,000 in taxes earlier today (September 29) in Federal court.
Winans, who produced hits for Biggie Smalls, Eminem, Diddy, Destiny’s Child and many more acts, admitted to failing to file tax returns from 2009-2012.
The Fort Lee Daily Voice reports that the producer controlled two companies, Yellow City LLC and RioWorld LLC, which received over $3 million in royalties.

Kris Jenner and her circus of a family have been with all of the stunts lately!
It’s still hard to believe Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna are a real couple, and every time something goes down, one can’t help but to wonder is it a publicity stunt.
Rumor has it that Rob and Chyna broke up a few weeks ago, and this is the reason the families were, at one time, planning separate baby showers.
Rob recently took to Twitter to blast his family and his sister Kylie Jenner in particular, for planning a baby shower for him but failing to invite Blac Chyna. Rob even went as far as to post Kylie Jenner’s real phone number on social media during the blast.
Now, rumor has it that Rob and Chyna have been fighting for a while because Rob is convinced that Blac Chyna will soon leave him for a rapper!
According to TMZ, Rob has never been comfortable with Chyna’s past, especially not her past relationships with Future and Tyga.
Apparently Blac Chyna had to stop listening to certain rap songs around Rob because he told her,
“You’d rather date a rapper than a fat Armenian.”
Hmmmmmm while we believe Blac Chyna will forever crave a rapper, we know for a fact she is about that check, and Rob and their relationship fame is certainly supplying that.
Or perhaps Drake and Rihanna were never a couple and were instead a good publicity stunt and something for the kids to talk about during homeroom!
According to Bossip, inside sources have confirmed that Drake has been smashing The Game’s ex, reality/social media star, India Love.
The insider claims,
“India Love is basically traveling with him. Not sure how that fits in with his Rihanna situation.”
According to the insider, Drake and India Love have been hooking up for the past two weeks, and Love was right there supporting her boo at one of the 6 God’s Los Angeles Summer Sixteen shows!
Bad gal Rihanna is unbothered as she has been in Paris walking the runway in her Fenty By Puma show.
We’d love to see Drake and Rihanna really be a couple, but we could also see them being cool with having a fling or an open relationship!
(AllHipHop News) Many actors, actresses, music artists, and athletes have decided to use their celebrity to address political and social issues affecting people in America.
Other famous entertainers have chosen not to publicly weigh in on those subjects at all or at least attempt to support both sides of a potentially controversial topic.
During an interview withGalore, actress/singer Keke Palmer was asked if she felt pressure to speak on the Black Lives Matter movement against police violence and systemic racism.
The star of Akeelah and the Bee, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, and Scream Queens took the opportunity to also comment on “hashtag activism.”
“I don’t feel pressure to speak up on issues of my culture but I do hate the emphasis my generation (me included) puts on social media in terms of creating changes within our world,” Palmer told the magazine. “To me, the importance has got to start being less about how many posts we’ve put up on the issues and more about what we are doing in the real world to create future change.”
When questioned if it was fair that, as an African-American performer, she is expected to be aware of issues such as Black Lives Matter but white actresses are not necessarily expected to have to comment on it, Palmer argued that no one in the public eye should feel required to speak out.
“I do have an affinity for community and have a deep care for the younger generation and like to create inspiring yet fun and inclusive projects to propel them forward positively,” said Palmer. “Having said that, an entertainer’s main job is to entertain and I don’t think it is fair to expect an entertainer to be an activist. It’s a great combo when you have it but that is not everyone’s passion, a la Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali.”
Do you agree with Keke Palmer? Take our poll below.
