Biggie Smalls’ “Victory” Gets A Feminine Touch By Signature Meanroe

(AllHipHop Video) Signature Meanroe is an up and coming emcee from Uptown, New York City. The female spitter decided to do a dedication to the Notorious One, which we are celebrated his life and times. It was 20 years ago that B.I.G. was slain, but his memory remains as evident in this homage to “Victory.”

Will Smith & Martin Lawrence’s ‘Bad Boys 3’ Loses Its Director

(AllHipHop News) Movie fans that have been anticipating the next installment of the Bad Boy franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence may have to wait even longer.

Bad Boys 3, or Bad Boys for Life, lost its director.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joe Carnahan dropped out of the position because of scheduling conflicts.

However, other sources tell the industry publication that “creative differences” was the cause for the change.

Carnahan was also writing the script for the film, so producers will have to find a new director and writer.

Sony Pictures had planned to release Bad Boys for Life on November 8.

It is not clear if the production has been pushed back because of the turnover in the director’s chair.

Bad Boys II came out in 2003, and it grossed over $130 million in North America.

The original Bad Boys hit theaters in 1995 and collected $66 million in the domestic box office.

Action movie specialist Michael Bay directed the first two motion pictures.

In recent years, both Lawrence and Smith have spoken publicly about their involvement with Bad Boy 3.

Biggie Smalls Is (Still) The Illest: A Writer’s 5 Favorite Notorious B.I.G. Songs

(AllHipHop Features) Twenty years ago today, while leaving the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace was fatally shot.  I still clearly remember being a 9-year-old boy sitting on the floor in the living room of my grandparents’ home in Sarasota, Florida, and hearing the newscaster report that Biggie had been killed on the evening news.

It left a void in Hip-Hop that will never be replaced and his passing is a tragedy on so many levels.  However, rather than mourn his death, I choose to celebrate his life.  The music he created is timeless and some of the best that has ever been made.

My name is Shad Reed and I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of writing for AllHipHop.com for about 4.5 years now.  If you’ve read, commented, or debated over a list on this site at all in the past few years, there’s a very good chance that I’m the one who wrote it.

The Notorious B.I.G. is one of the reasons I am passionate about Hip-Hop.  He was one of rap’s brightest stars during my formative years as a music fan, and so he is not only responsible for one of my favorite albums, Ready to Die, but also holds a spot in my Top 5.

I had the wonderful opportunity to pay homage to the aforementioned LP a few years ago, and so I would be remiss to not point out why I hold the artist himself in such high regard too.  The fact he is still so important all these years after his death proves that I am not the only one who does either.

Narrowing my list of favorite Biggie joints down to five is a daunting task because he has so many great records.  Even if that’s cliché, it doesn’t make it any less true.  “My Downfall.”  “Who Shot Ya?”  “Brooklyn’s Finest” with Jay Z.  The way he blacked out on that Jackson 5 sample for Puff’s remix to “All About the Benjamins.”  The two characters on “Gimme the Loot.” The screenplay like detail of “N****s Bleed.”  Those songs, among others, could be on a list like this and I wouldn’t be mad at it.

If forced to pick though, these are the five Notorious B.I.G. songs that have affected and/or impressed me the most.

LIFE AFTER DEATH: A Millennial Review Of A Notoriously B.I.G. Album

(Editor’s Note: Micah Drago is a 22-year old writer that recently listened to Ready To Die (read the review here) and Life After Death for the first time this year.)
Image result for notorious big hypnotize gif(AllHipHop Special Review) Ready to Die was a great album, but I came into Life After Death with reservations for two reasons: it’s really long and it doesn’t get as much praise. For a lot of artists, 2-disc albums end up being career lows, and a debut album as great as Ready to Die pretty much guarantees an underwhelming second album.

In reality, I was pleasantly surprised with Life After Death. While it doesn’t have the same punchy beats and ferocious punchlines, B.I.G. used his second album as an opportunity to branch out and explore various musical styles, and the result left me wishing I could see the direction he took with his subsequent albums.

That’s not to say Life After Death didn’t have its flaws. To me, the biggest drawback of many ‘90s albums was the simplistic rhyming. A lot of rappers showed flashes of complex, multisyllabic rhymes, but I often find myself wishing they had showcased those skills more consistently. In that sense, I think rap has consistently evolved, but (to me) Life After Death didn’t feel like years of progression.

As far as features go, this album delivers. On “Last Day,” Jada and Styles deliver devastating verses that would later become their trademarks. And in the second head-to-head sparring of their rap careers, Biggie and Jay effortlessly display their lyrical ability over a smooth Easy Mo Bee beat.

One thing that interested me when I listened to this album was Biggie’s musical talent. When it comes to the Biggie vs. Tupac debate, a lot of people seem to agree that Tupac had a bigger impact, but Biggie was better lyrically. But I think their ability to make great music was overlooked. Songs like “Playa Hater” make me wonder about the direction B.I.G. might have taken a decade later, and what kind of influence he might have had on the more melodic direction today’s hip-hop has taken.

All that said, as much as I wanted Life After Death to match the quality of Biggie’s debut album, it just isn’t really for me. I enjoy good music, but above all, clever, carefully crafted lyrics are what draw my attention, and Ready to Die really felt like a hungrier Biggie who was out to prove he was one of the best. With a double platinum debut album on his hands, B.I.G. had already solidified his spot as one of the best in the game.

But at the end of the day, it’s hard to be disappointed with an album this good. There are spots where Biggie showcases his expert lyricism, but he also provides plenty of innovative music that proved he wasn’t just clever — he was one of the best to ever touch a mic.

Nicki Minaj Ties Aretha Franklin For Most Hits By A Woman

(AllHipHop News) Nicki Minaj has tied Aretha Franklin’s record for the most U.S. chart hits by a woman.

Her new “Make Love” track, which features rapper Gucci Mane, has debuted at 78 on the new Billboard Hot 100 countdown, giving the hip-hop star her 73rd mention.

That matches the Queen of Soul’s run of hits, although Minaj managed the feat in just over seven years – her first Hot 100 hit was her “Knockout” collaboration with Lil Wayne in February, 2000.

Her first solo hit was “Your Love,” which reached number 14 in August, 2010.

Minaj is now three hits ahead of Taylor Swift, while Rihanna breaks a tie with Madonna for fourth spot on the rankings, with 58 Hot 100 hits, thanks to the debut of Future’s new song, “Selfish,” on which she features.

Dionne Warwick, Beyonce, and Connie Francis also make the top 10 with over 50 Hot 100 mentions each.

Nicki has been credited as the lead artist on 29 of her chart hits, while Aretha is the solo artist on almost all 73 of her Hot 100 songs.

The soul star, who recently announced her retirement, first hit the countdown in 1961, according to Billboard.

Her last mention on the chart came in 1998.

Seventeen of her hits were top 10s, with “Respect” and “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)” – her duet with George Michael – hitting the top spot.

Franklin and Minaj now share 10th place on the list of most prolific Hot 100 acts.

The “Glee” cast leads the list with 207 chart titles, followed by Lil Wayne (133) and Drake (132).

Is Nicki Minaj Readying A Safaree Diss Before A Remy Ma One?!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Look, as far as most are concerned Nicki Minaj has proven that she’s “scared” of Remy Ma given the fact that she didn’t respond to Remy’s diss track.

Listen, Remy hit below the belt and drew blood. Some are saying Nicki is “unbothered” and that she has too much to lose by responding to Remy. Some are saying that every action doesn’t require or deserve a reaction, but this is freaking Hip Hop man!!

To make matters worse, Nicki has been responding to everyone but REMY MA! Fans even let her have it when she responded to Trey Songz telling him that he should be clearing her name the day the “ShETHER” track dissed. Everyone, Trey included, felt that Nicki should be mad at/responding to Remy and no one else.

Now, word on the curb is that Nicki Minaj is readying a diss track for her ex-boyfriend Safaree!

Safaree recently made an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show where he revealed that he believes Nicki Minaj cheated on him with Meek Mill after he introduced them to each other. He also took credit for writing Nicki’s bars.

Safaree also let it be known that Nicki’s people tried to get Safaree’s appearance on Wendy blocked as well.

Sources close to the situation have told HollywoodLife that Nicki was going to ignore Remy’s claims, but she just can’t stand by and let her ex call her a cheater and take credit for her work.

“She is angry and feels majorly disrespected by Safaree’s Wendy Williams interview. Nicki is livid that Safaree would try to take so much credit for all of Nicki’s hard work. Nicki feels likes the only person truly responsible for all her success is herself,” said the insider.

“Safaree’s name is now at the top of Nicki’s list, right next to Remy Ma. Nicki will be coming for both of these two next time she steps into the studio,” claims the source.

If Nicki responds to Safaree before Remy……..man listen. At this point Nicki can keep her Remy response. We don’t even want it anymore, and I highly doubt that she can say anything as bad as what Remy said.

T.I. and Tiny’s “Family Hustle” Reality Show Gets Canceled

(AllHipHop News)
T.I. and Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle’s reality TV show will come to an end after its upcoming sixth season.

It was reported in January that executives at U.S. network VH1 were on the brink of cancelling the estranged couple’s reality TV series “T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle” after its fifth season ended last year, but producers had managed to convince them to air one more series.

Now, VH1 bosses have now confirmed the upcoming sixth season will be the last in the series.

“VH1 is incredibly proud of this long running series and our partnership with Tip and Tameka,” said Nina L. Diaz, executive vice president at VH1 and MTV, in a statement.

“For six years, they have opened their home and shared countless family moments with us. Reaching 100 episodes is a milestone and we couldn’t be more excited to bring viewers the highly anticipated final season.”

TMZ.com reported in January that the series would document their divorce after Tiny filed paperwork to end their six-year marriage in December of 2016 but it has since been revealed their divorce proceedings are on hold because she failed to formally notify the 36-year-old rapper of the legal action.

The case was due to be heard at a court in Georgia this month but it has been shelved by authorities until the former Xscape singer provides proof she served him with divorce papers.

The TV series, which debuted in 2011, also documents the estranged couple’s efforts to co-parent their sons King, 12, Major Philant, eight, and daughter Heiress, who celebrates her first birthday later this month.

T.I., real name Clifford Harris Jr, is also father to three children from a previous relationship, while Tiny is mother to Zonnique Pullins from a prior romance.

Since the divorce news, the couple, who began dating in 2001, have remained on amicable terms and have been spotted on together on several occasions, including Valentine’s Day.

Guess Who Has A Joint Album On The Way?

(AllHipHop Rumors) Miami stand up!

It looks like Trick Daddy and Trina want to give us all that nostalgic feeling of the music that came from Slip N’ Slide Records in the ’90s.

Trick and Trina are now reportedly linking back up like the old days for a joint album.

According to Billboard, Trick Daddy revealed that he’s ready to put Miami back on the map.⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“Yesterday me and Trina signed a deal for a Trick & Trina collabo album. So we bringing the city back. I just want this Trick & Trina record to be classic. I’m going to turn the Diamond Princess back to the Baddest B-tch,” said Trick.

Trick Daddy feels that regions have lost their distinctive sounds. He went on to say,

“ATL doesn’t have a sound no more. Miami doesn’t have a sound no more. New York doesn’t have a sound no more… With the exception of Remy Ma & Fat Joe, I don’t remember the last time I heard a real New York record. With the exception of the Migos, I don’t remember the last time I heard an Atlanta record. Miami has a couple artists doing things like, Pitbull and Flo-Rida, but we need to take it back to those days, because if it wasn’t for DJ Khaled, I don’t know if our name and face would even still be mentioned or placed in a hall of fame.”

Slip N’ Slide CEO Ted Lucas added that the collaborative album is something that the fans had been waiting patiently for, and they are definitely going to make it happen.

“Trick put Miami on the map with gangsta music, which was different from all perspectives. When Miami was known for booty shaking, Trick was able to change the culture of what people thought about of Miami music, and Trina was able to put female rappers on the map. We’re excited about it, and looking forward to it,” said Lucas.

READY TO DIE: A Millennial Review Of A Notoriously B.I.G. Album

(Editor’s Note: Micah Drago is a 22-year old writer that recently listened to Ready To Die and Life After Death for the first time this year.) Related image
(AllHipHop Special Review)1994 was a great year for Hip-Hop. From the hard-hitting debuts of OutKast and Nas to Common’s smooth sophomore effort, Resurrection, there was no shortage of dope music. But somehow, I’ve committed the cardinal sin of overlooking what many would call the best album of ‘94: Ready to Die.

It’s not that I don’t like Biggie, but I’m a 22-year-old white kid from Oregon. I grew up in a rural town with 3,000 people who didn’t like Hip-Hop unless it was on MTV or from California in the ‘90s. And I try to catch up on everything I miss, but there’s been a lot of dope Hip-Hop in the past two decades. I like the B.I.G. I’ve heard, I just haven’t found time to listen through his albums from start to finish — until now.

From the moment I started the album, two things stuck out to me: Biggie’s smooth flow and the amazing production. “Things Done Changed” paints a perfect picture of the changes New York (and many large cities) underwent during the crack epidemic. This theme is explored more throughout the album as B.I.G. gives us a glimpse into his life and mind.

Even though I’m just familiarizing myself with this album, it’s one of the most timeless formative albums to me. There are a lot of awesome rappers from the ‘90s, but I’ll be the first to admit that hip-hop often ages poorly. A Tribe Called Quest and N.W.A. both sound unmistakably ‘90s. When I listen to the variety in production and cadence on Ready to Die vs. Illmatic, though, it’s hard to believe both albums came out in ‘94.

From the lyrical showcases of “Unbelievable” and “The What” to the more personal storytelling found in “Respect” and “Everyday Struggle,” B.I.G. cemented himself as one of the best lyricists of all time on Ready to Die. Overall, I would say this is the best album of 1994.

It amazed me to hear the massive influence B.I.G. has had on every rapper that’s come after him. From mimicked cadences to slightly altered bars, I found myself more familiar with a lot of the songs than I expected to be.

One area where I feel this album fell short is the overall composition. I loved the semi-autobiographical theme that remains constant throughout the album, but it’s a little bit long for my taste. In my opinion, short albums usually have better replay value and are more cohesive. In hindsight, we were lucky to get two lengthy albums from B.I.G. while he was alive.

I wasn’t sure if this album was going to stick with me coming in, but it felt surprisingly fresh and different. In a genre where hype is so often misplaced, I’m glad to hear an album that deserves every bit of credit it’s been given.”

Flying Lotus Interviews Anderson .Paak For Interview Magazine

(AllHipHop News) Interview magazine tapped Flying Lotus to have an extensive conversation with Anderson .Paak.

The two West Coast representatives discussed their respective connections to Shafiq Husayn, Paak’s writing process, A Tribe Called Quest’s We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, the NxWorries’ Yes Lawd! project, and more.

Read an excerpt from the interview below:

FLYLO: It takes time, man. A lot of people don’t realize that that’s pretty much how everyone starts. They sound like somebody else for a while, and then they start finding things that are so uniquely them, and then they just go in on that s###. But you have a vibe, man. It’s so cool to see that people like Tribe Called Quest and Schoolboy Q embrace you.

PAAK: It’s a trip, man. When people were asking what I really wanted as an artist, I remember thinking that was exactly the thing, if anything, that I wanted. I always thought it was cool to be able to go in any room and put that s### in. There’s no ceilings, no boundaries; it’s free. Like someone like a Thom Yorke or Earl Sweatshirt, you know? I always really admire artists like that, who can work with anybody and it’s still their unique sound. That was a big part of what I wanted to do.

Paak was one of the breakout stars of 2016.

He also earned two Grammy nominations for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best New Artist.

Rapper Rick Ross Wants His Money, Appeals LMFAO “Party Anthem”

(AllHipHop News) Rick Ross wants to get paid.

The rapper has launched another legal bid to gain royalties from LMFAO big hit “Party Rock Anthem.”

Rick Ross launched a lawsuit against LMFAO in January of 2014, claiming the hook from the catchy song was actually derived from his 2006 hit single “Hustlin’.”

The case went to court in April of 2016, however LMFAO came out on top when a judge threw the case out because three different owners were listed on the original copyright Ross filed. Now, Ross is launching his new legal campaign to get compensated from the track.

His new lawsuit agrees with an earlier ruling, but he claims the shotty paperwork work does not negate the fact that LMFAO stole his hook.

In Ross’s new arguments before 11th circuit County court the rapper the copyright’s clerical errors should not have resulted in his entire case being dismissed.

Rick Ross is seeking an undisclosed amount of dollars in damages from LMFAO.

Steph Lecor and Migos Drop “I Know You Ain’t”

Pairing it with R Kelly’s classic single “Booty” was just the icing on the cake. I hope when people hear this record it makes them want to let loose and dance… and in that moment put all of the stresses of life to the side.” – Steph Lecor

New Restaurant “The Carter” Opens and Jay Z and Beyonce Are On The Menu

(AllHipHop News) A new bar in Auckland, Australia has launched and it’s central theme?

Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

The heart of a new restaurant called “The Carter” is inspired by hit albums from the power couple, in addition to works by Nas, Kanye West, The Notorious B.I.G. and others.

The Carter features a Renaissance style theme, mostly inspired by Jay-Z and Kanye West’s 2011 album, Watch the Throne.

The artwork, as well as the restaurant’s overall design, was created by an unnamed female architect from Melbourne.

“Jay Z and Beyonce have always been at the center of controversy which is what inspired our hidden messages in artwork surrounding the bar and the murals on the wall in the basement,” said Chady Khouzam, who is the manager The Carter.

Items on the menu include “The Carter’s Chicken Wings,” “Bey’s Hot Sauce,” “Nas’ Stick Lamb Ribs” and a footlong hot dog in honor of Snoop Dogg.

Azealia Banks Apologizes To Court And Bench Warrant Withdrawn

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Azealia Banks is no longer a wanted woman after a New York City judge retracted a bench warrant against her.

The “212” hitmaker failed to show up at a court hearing on Monday (March 6) for her misdemeanor battery case, in which she stands accused of spitting at and biting a female bouncer outside a nightclub in 2015.

However, Banks dodged a bullet on Tuesday (March 7) when she actually turned up to the courthouse to appear before Judge Kathryn Paek, who decided to lift the bench warrant after chastising the musician for being a no-show the day before.

According to PageSix, the 25-year-old, who had been partying in France for Paris Fashion Week in recent days, stood before the magistrate in knee-high vinyl boots, explaining she was out of the country during Monday’s hearing and thought the court date was later in the week.

“I just wanted to apologize for being tardy,” she told the judge.

But Judge Paek was having none of it, clapping back: “Not tardy! You missed your court date, your case is on for hearing and trial, and you did not appear. Do you understand the difference?”

After Banks responded with a meek “yes”, Assistant District Attorney Andrea Kimmell stepped in to launch another attack by asking the judge to slap the star with a $2,000 bail fine for her absence earlier in the week.

Despite Judge Paek giving Banks a stern talking-to earlier in the hearing, Azealia lucked out, as she was released without bail and was able to walk out of the courthouse after the magistrate vacated her arrest warrant.

Her next hearing on the matter is scheduled for March 10.

Banks has found herself in hot water with the judge before – she was supposed to appear in court in September, but was a no-show after reportedly missing her flight to New York City from Los Angeles.

The rap star made a rescheduled Manhattan court date in November, when the magistrate overseeing the case warned her she would serve jail time if she failed to appear at the next hearing.

Remy Ma On “ShETHER”: I Don’t Regret It, But I’m Not Particularly Proud Of It (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Remy Ma set the internet on fire when the Bronx spitter let loose “ShETHER,” a seven-minute takedown of Nicki Minaj.

During an appearance on Another Round‘s Facebook Live broadcast, Remy shared her thoughts about the feud after the record went viral.

“First of all, I don’t condone or recommend the tearing down of another female. That’s not what I do,” said the Love & Hip Hop star. “I think we work so much better when we work together.

Remy added, “However, in the event that you p### me off and we become arch enemies, run for cover.”

But does the Plata O Plomo album creator expect Nicki to respond to her diss record?

“It’s over now. If she wants to say something, then cool. I said what I had to say,” Remy declared. “I don’t care.”

She went on to discuss how she feels about her scathing “ShETHER” now.

“I don’t regret it, but I’m not particularly proud of it. I think it’s crazy the way people celebrate women attacking each other as opposed to working together,” stated Remy.

Jay Z Hosting “Time and Punishment” Town Hall Tonight on Spike TV

Spike TV will air the exclusive “Time and Punishment” town hall featuring Jay, and members of the late Kalief Browder’s family.

The six-part series delves deep into the life of Kalief Browder, who committed suicide after spending three years on Rikers Island as a 16-year-old, for allegedly stealing a backpack.

During tonight’s town hall, Jay will be joined by Browder’s siblings, and a panel of authorities will discuss his tragic story, in addition to the systemic flaws within the American justice system.
