While D’Angelo has helped inspire a new generation of music from albums like Brown Sugar toBlack Messiah, he takes a couple of minutes to honor the late legendary singer, Prince. Recently, the soul singer played a soothing cover to the Purple One’s single ” Venus D Milo.” D’Angelo’s performance is a brief and random performance in the studio, only lasting two minutes. However, the keyboard re-do is soothing and soulful, honoring Prince in a cool way.
Last night, D’Angelo featured as a music guess on Jimmy Fallon to honor Prince.
(AllHipHop News) Presidential candidate Donald Trump has had some trouble gaining support from African-American voters. Polls have shown the billionaire real estate businessman only pulling in between 4%-12% of the black vote.
Revolt spoke to Trump during the Time 100 Gala in New York City on Tuesday night. The Republican frontrunner was asked why should a young, black man cast a vote for him.
“Sadly, nothing has been done to help young African-American entrepreneurs, business people, and just people who want jobs,” stated Trump. “Donald Trump is bringing jobs back. Donald Trump is going to take care of the African-Americans and the black youth that frankly have been treated very, very badly.”
He continued, “I think you’re going to be very happy… I’m going to win the African-American vote.”
Trump also stated unemployment among young African-Americans is at 59%. The official unemployment rate for blacks ages 16 to 19 is actually closer to 25%. That is still much higher than the national unemployment rate which is about 5%.
(AllHipHop News) Grammy winning R&B star D’Angelo honored Prince last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The Black Messiah album creator covered the late icon’s “Sometimes It Snows In April” off the 1986 LP Parade. D’Angelo was joined by Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum’s cover band Princess.
Welterweight world champion Keith Thurman and former champion Shawn Porter are no longer friends, at least until after their upcoming fight. The pair stood face-to-face Tuesday afternoon in at a press conference in Manhattan and offered their take on the Showtime match-up Saturday, June 25.Fans seeking tickets for the live event can go online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, www.barclayscenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.The Premier Boxing Champions showdown goes downlive from Barclays Center in Brooklyn and telecast live on CBS.Thurman and Porter discussed the 147-pound world title bout. See their quotes below.KEITH THURMAN“I made you wait. But it’s worth it. This is a tremendous fight. Arguably the best matchup of the year. We’re going to work our butts off to make it the Fight of the Year.“Our two teams go way back. This is the most beautiful moment of my professional career and I’m about to compete with somebody I grew up with. I’m happy for my success and I’m happy for Shawn’s success. We come from the same boat. When you’re a young kid in the gym training and then you’re here today, that takes a special kind of person. Shawn and I are both that kind of person.“We took six weeks off after my accident, with three days a week of physical therapy. I was relaxing at home. I didn’t like it. As a fighter, I wanted this fight as bad as the fans wanted this fight.“This isn’t just the biggest fight of my career. But it’s the most anticipated fight of my career. Sometimes it pays to add some drama to the game. It wasn’t our intention, but I think it worked out.“Barclays Center makes this a big fight. We get to promote here in New York City. New York is a fight town. My favorite fighter of all time, Mike Tyson, is from Brooklyn. This just happened to work out for the best.“I anticipate most of the welterweight division being in attendance on June 25. The situation that division is in right now is that we’re all in a frenzy. Everyone wants the spotlight and everyone wants to be the top dog. We all have that opportunity.“I want to have two titles by the end of this year. People talk about replacing Floyd Mayweather, but you can’t become the man without beating all the people in front of you. One fight at a time. I want to stay at the top by grabbing another belt. I’m going to show that I’m the big dog at 147 pounds.“June 25, my friend is about to become my enemy. I’m going to treat him like any other enemy.“Get your tickets. Get your seats. Get your popcorn. Whatever you need to do. This is going to be a fight you don’t want to miss. This is going to be a knockout you don’t want to miss. I love you Shawn, but I’m doing my best to put you to sleep.”SHAWN PORTER“I’m very excited about this fight. I’m blessed to have this opportunity. Not only to go for this title but to be a part of a record-breaking show at Barclays Center. This night is going to be memorable.“Keith Thurman is bringing out the competitiveness in me to a level I’ve always wanted. It’s a level I expect. I have a guy next to me who is challenging me more than ever. Me and Keith Thurman are going to put on a show. Everything you talked about, you’re going to get it.“It is amazing to be a part of something great like this. I’ve always considered myself to be a very good fighter and a very good athlete, but I’ve always wanted something like this and to have it is very humbling.“I wasn’t surprised that Keith said he would knock me out. He has to pump himself up and be confident. When he looked at me I think he was trying to convince me that he was being real and I was looking at him to find out if he was convinced. He thinks he’s going to knock me out, I say he’s not. I’m going to do everything it takes to beat him and make it look easy.“This is forming to be a big fight, one of those fights that we’ve looked forward to since we were kids.“This is my second time fighting at Barclays Center. I’m 1-0 with a championship so now I’m looking for another one. I’ve been to some of the other fights at Barclays too and it is really an electric atmosphere. People are coming out to see something great and that’s what I’m going to give them.“I’m not changing anything in camp because of how familiar Keith and I are with each other. I have to do it at the right time in the ring. We’re going to do everything we do to prepare for a world championship fight.“Thurman is a little unorthodox at times so we’re prepared for that. It’s about going 12 rounds or less and looking good doing it. We’ve done a little sparring as pros but nothing as competitive as I’m expecting on June 25.“I have a feeling Keith is going to say he’s knocking me out a lot. I want to know if he believes that. He’s a cutthroat kind of fighter. I know that. The hands will be up, the defense will be taken care of, and we’re taking care of business.”
NoLay is a British artist who has been making waves recently in the good ol US of A! When asked to describe what she does and how she goes about doing it, NoLay gave her new American friends a lesson in the Cockney way of rhyming that has a strong popular following overseas.Says NoLay,
“I was inspired to write Gotta Love It taking into account both sides of my background and culture. There is a lot of cockney rhyming slang in Gotta Love It. Cockney rhyming slang is made up of using phrases that derived from taking an expression which rhymes with a word and then using that expression instead of the word. I class myself as a deep lyricist and artist that creates serious music but I wanted to not be so serious and deep with this track and have fun with it. This track is all about the fun.”
Step outside the norm and take a listen to what’s going on across the pond! Remember….you can’t claim to have the best music in the world if you haven’t heard the rest of the world! Ladies and Gents, we give you NoLay!
(AllHipHop News) Last night AllHipHop.com spoke exclusively with two of California’s most renown DJs while at a listening session for Taylor Gang femcee Raven Felix.
With DJ Amen, hailing from The Bay and DJ Carisma hailing from Los Angeles, the two have built a brand in Young California that makes them arguably two of the most influential DJ’s in California.
L.A. bred DJ, DJ Dre Sinatra who is also Ty Dolla $ign’s tour DJ, is traveling across Europe with Ty and is also part of this DJ crew that has been breaking talent left and right.
The Young California DJ’s have been able to break record after record in the California market via club performances, major radio time slots and using their Young California studios in Burbank for listening sessions.
“Man I’m just glad that we were the one’s that were a part of it and we were the ones to really help spearhead the movement,” DJ Carisma explained of the Young California wave. “It feels good to look at things and be like, ‘Yo we did that!’ But nah, there is still a lot of work to be done each year. We got to keep it going, so the battle continues. I literally have an event every day, every week, so best thing to do is just follow me on social media to see where I’m at.”
DJ Amen also spoke about helping create the Young California wave that’s catapulted the trio of DJ’s to a new Young California radio show every Saturday and Sunday from 7pm – Midnight on LA’s Real 92.3.
“The last couple years have been crazy in The Bay because we have amazing sports teams. There’s just this amazing sense of pride in the city with Giants and the Warriors and the Sharks in the playoffs. Being around during Super Bowl week, I taped the whole thing and I’ve never seen parties of that magnitude in The Bay like that,” DJ Amen explained.
“I started at KMEL 8 or 9 years ago and I learned a lot under Big Vaughn and Scotty Fox and Mind Motion. Before I linked up with Carisma to get Young California poppin’, I had to find my own lane because those guys are legends. My lane was the youth and helping young artists and encouraging them,” DJ Amen said.
“That’s when I found Roach Gigz, IamSu! and a lot of these kids out in The Bay. That’s how the HeartBreakGang opened the doors for that generation. You had G-Eazy, Kehlani, Sage the Gemini, Kreashawn and it was one after other. They all had a platform and that was really with KMEL. Then with the Young California platform it just extended beyond radio.”
The Young California brand has brought great success individually to the two DJ’s as well.
DJ Carisma is currently female DJ of the year two years running and she’s “going for the three-peat” like MJ and Kobe with new songs in hand.
“I got lots of songs coming, make sure to check out my new single with Chris Brown & Dej Loaf and I got a new song coming out on May 7th so def look out for that,” she added.
DJ Amen is heavily focused on his “Blessed” brand of clothing that’s started to take off in the Bay and Los Angeles.
” It was just like the perfect wave of talent, artists and culture all in one contributing to Hip-Hop and breaking great records. Young California has really brought Bay and LA together.”
For more information on the Young California DJs, check them out 7pm – Midnight on LA’s Real 92.3. Listeners can stream the shows anywhere on the iHeartRadio App and on Real923LA.com/listen.

If hard fights usually bring their combatants closer in professional boxing, “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (31-5-2, 24KOs) and Andre “The Beast” Berto (30-4, 23KOs) are anything but the rule going into their second battle scheduled for this Saturday April 30, 2016 from the StubHub Center in Carson, CA, set to be televised live on Fox and Fox Deportes at 8p.m. ET/5p.m. PT courtesy of Premier Boxing Champions on Fox. If the picture above from their latest press conference for Saturday’s fight doesn’t illustrate exactly how little affection they have for one another since their explosive first battle in 2011, perception is blind.
Billed simply as “the Rematch,” both fighters have a lot to prove with Berto coming off of his recent loss to the now retired Floyd “Money”Mayweather (49-0, 26KOs). While Mayweather is an iconic fighter who bested both Berto and Ortiz definitively, Berto, in suffering that most recent loss in December of last year, still carries the fresh blemish of not being able to squash lingering rumors that he simply isn’t the same formidable fighter post shoulder injury. Victor Ortiz also has his own heavy baggage coming into this fight, having taken a long sojourn from the sport that made him famous due to multiple injuries: “I shattered my jaw, which took me out for two years,” stated Ortiz, adding that after those two years, he had a less than grand return, getting KOed in two rounds by Luis Collazo (36-7, 19KOs): “I was healing, I come back not so good…a few months later I shatter my wrist…so I said you know what, I’m stepping away from boxing for the time being just until I heal. So I went on to take on Hollywood. I got on movie after movie after movie. Six movies later, now I’m 100 percent.” Hopefully after a good three years out of contention due to injury, Ortiz’s self evaluation proves more accurate now than it did when he came back in versus Collazo in 2014.
While things seem to be especially charged between both fighters for a myriad of do or die career related reasons, it would seem that Berto has more to prove to himself as well as boxing fans going into Saturday’s fight as the man who is coming off of losses versus victory. Ortiz, unlike Berto, comes into Saturday’s fight as the winner of his last two battles and despite having gone in as the underdog in 2011, Ortiz was the undisputed winner of Berto vs. Ortiz I. Nevertheless, Berto seems to be energized rather than troubled by this past history: ” I’ve improved tremendously. Mentally and all the way around the board,” stated Berto of his loss to Ortiz, continuing in regards to the rematch, “This fight has always been on my mind. Even when I tried to move on, other people continued to remind me about it. Everyone said I needed to get (Ortiz) back. That’s the fight everyone has wanted to see and that everyone deserves. I’m going to give everyone the fight they deserve.”
(AllHipHop News) AllHipHop.com has exclusively learned that VH1 is bringing back its Hip-Hop Honors show, one of the one-time staple award shows of the music industry.
According to sources, the event will be women centric, but how that manifests is not yet known.
Previous events were at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, while this event is confirmed to also take place in Mid-Town Manhattan.
The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors originally ran from 2004-2010 and honored Hip-Hop legends and old school greats.
“I’m just happy VH1 started this thing…” Ice T said back in 2006. “We didn’t know if VH1 was the right place to for Hip-Hop Honors, but they’ve shown and proved.”
A host of artists have been honored in past ceremonies as honorees ranged from 2pac to Whodini, to The Notorious BIG to Snoop, to Run-DMC.
While there are too many to name from past award shows, typically artists honored at the award shows have run the gambit.
Adrien Broner isn’t familiar with the phrase, “humility is key.” Before making up with Floyd Mayweather, he caused quite a bit of drama by taking shots at Floyd through arrogant social media posts, and he even upset some rappers by ignorantly throwing up some change he received from a cashier at Walmart. Adrien is back at it again running his mouth. This time he is taking a jab at Fetty Wap. Adrien said,
“They say we got the same jeweler, but we in different tax brackets. No disrespect to Fetty Wap. I love Fetty Wap.”
Sometimes Adrien acts like he’s miserable or he aint never had sh*t! Why even say that? He could’ve just talked about his own jewelry if he felt the need to.
Following the crazy drama over Katt Williams between Hazel-E & Jhonni Blaze, Hazel was spotted partying it up for her birthday at Katsuya and later at Stir Lounge in Hollywood.
Katt Williams is no stranger to drama. He can now add more women trouble to the list of drama that he has to deal with. Despite Katt’s record and back-to-back legal trouble, The ladies of Love & Hip Hop can’t leave him alone. Hazel-E and Jhonni Blaze went at it on social media over the weekend after Jhonni posted a photo of herself with the comedian.
When Hazel-E saw Jhonni’s post, the Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star went off on her former friend. Hazel posted,
“This old tired washed up stripper who was last spotted sleeping a bathtub has nerve to start beef with me when I didn’t even mention her name over a video that was taken days before she jumped on my ex’s c**k. But she been a fan of me since my Girl Code mixtape, I done paid Jhonni at Dreams & Sues Rendezvous, I’ve listened to every sad story, tried to vouch for her at LHHH & LHHNY. U tryna get my attention I don’t know what beef you got cuz neither Rich was your man & neither is my ex. You a ragged b*tch Jhonni.”
Hazel-E & Jhonni both took turns at taking shots at each other as they both were once homeless and broke. As they used each others shortcomings to go back and forth, it seems like Hazel was really bothered by the fact that she’s still in legal trouble with Katt and her so called friend Jhonni Blaze is trying to be his latest project. Well, Hazel seemed to be pretty “unbothered” as she partied it up for her birthday with her new attitude and new nose!

(AllHipHop News) Rachel Roy has denied she is the woman at the center of Jay Z ‘cheating’ rumors.
The fashion designer responded after days of intense speculation about the identity of the “Becky with the good hair” which Beyonce sings about in song Sorry from her new visual album Lemonade.
Rachel, 42, sparked gossip that she was the woman referenced on the track about a husband’s infidelity, which many fans believe details a troubled patch in the superstar’s marriage to Jay Z, after she captioned an Instagram post in part, “good hair don’t care”.
“I want to put the speculation and rumors to rest. My Instagram post was meant to be fun and lighthearted, it was misunderstood as something other than that.
“There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors.”
Rachel, continued:
“Consequently, online haters have targeted me and my daughters in a hurtful and scary manner, including physical threats. As a mother – and I know many mothers would agree – I feel that bullying in any form is harmful and unacceptable.”
“I would hope that the media sees the real issue here – the issue of cyber bullying – and how it should not be tolerated by anyone,” she added.
The singer’s devotees, known as the BeyHive, responded to Roy’s comments with stinging remarks about her looks and alleged affair, which has long been rumored to have caused the now-famous elevator showdown between Jay Z and his sister-in-law Solange Knowles following a Met Ball afterparty in 2014.
Rachel has never previously commented on accusations swirling around her close friendship with Jay Z, who launched his first label, Roc-A-Fella Records, with her ex-husband Damon.
Rachel and Damon were married from 2005 to 2009, and are parents to daughters Tallulah and Ava.
“The same way I felt about him, was the same way I felt when I heard about Dilla.”
When we lose someone we know, we take time to grieve. But when we lose a legend like Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest, the world seems to stand still. People recall where they were and what they were doing when they got the news that a true trailblazer has gone to rest. While promoting his newest album Life On Earth soul singer Musiq Soulchild discusses the impact of Phife’s life and what we need to remember when an icon passes on.
“Everything ain’t for everyBODY. And I mean that across the board.”
Originality. The one thing in the music business as rare as the artists that provide it. You can search high and low, from coast to coast but, much like a platinum selling album, being an original is wanted by all but rarely achieved.
With that in mind, who better to ask about the current state of music than a platinum-selling original like the man know as Musiq Soulchild? With a laundry list of hits to his credit and a new album, Life On Earth under his belt, the time was right for the soul star to sit with AllHipHop’s @MrMecc to speak on everything from original music, original sandals and where all biters belong.
Rick Ross took a page out of Drake’s book and a pinch of his petty as he decided to send Charlamagne six cases of Belaire Rose. When Birdman threw his “respeck” tantrum on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne made sure to make us chuckle by asking Birdman if he pulled up on Rick Ross and Trick Daddy the same way he pulled up on the BC hosts. Now Ross and Trick Daddy have both responded in their own way. LOL. The Breakfast Club’s shortest interview definitely gave us some one-liners, and Charlamagne’s may have been the best. Rozay seems like he is saying Birdman knows what time it is. Hmmmm.
It looks like Andre 3000 may be a married man soon. Rumor has it that he popped the question to his fiancée Dominique Maldonado at Coachella 2016. Rumor has it she said yes! Apparently the two have been dating exclusively, and 3 Stacks is smitten with the music exec as she is really modest. Dre reportedly took Dominique on a trip around the world last year, and the couple spent Christmas together in Madrid. Maldonado is best known for managing the one and only Q-Tip. Congrats Dre if this is true!
(AllHipHop Features)George Ramirez was born in Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital and raised in the mostly African-American section of College Park, Georgia. The young Mexican-American grew up playing basketball at the local Boys & Girls Club, and he often spent time at the homes of those same neighborhood kids.
It was that Hispanic heritage mixed with those longtime relationships with mostly black friends that would eventually inspire Ramirez’s music created under the moniker Kap G. After he first started rapping in high school, Kap would go on to release several projects including the Real Migo Sh*t series and his first official mixtape Like A Mexican.
The Hip Hop artist’s latest collection, El Southside, presents real-life inspired stories of living in the SWATS (Southwest Atlanta Too Strong) told from the perspective of a 21-year-old rhymer on the rise. The mixtape has several big names attached to it as well.
DJ Drama added his influential Gangsta Grillz tag to the tape, and other acts such as Young Thug were recruited for guest appearances. Kap G’s i am OTHER imprint founder Pharrell Williams provides production. In addition, Squat Beats, KE On The Track, Zone 36, and others constructed the sounds found on El Southside.
Kap G is looking to eventually drop a 10-track studio album via Atlantic Records. But before Young Migo lets loose an LP, he spoke with AllHipHop.com about El Southside. The “La Policia” performer also touches on starring in Dope, Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall on the Mexican border, and more.
Was it your intent to combine your Atlanta influence and Mexican roots on El Southside?
Yeah, in my own way. I felt like a lot of people rocked with my first mixtape Like A Mexican, but I felt like some people didn’t understand it. So with El Southside, I just wanted to bring them to my side of town, let them know what it is. Kind of dumb it down for the people, but still give my type of style.
Whose idea was it for El Southside to be a Gangsta Grillz release?
It just kind of happened. At first I was going to do an EP. I record at DJ Drama’s Mean Street Studio. One time I had a meeting with my team. We were just talking about what if Drama hosted the mixtape and it’s a Gangsta Grillz. We chopped it up with Drama, and he was with it.
That’s a pretty big stamp of approval when you get that Gangsta Grillz on the cover.
Yeah, definitely. Shout out to DJ Drama. He’s been rocking with me since about 3 or 4 years ago. I met Drama on Peters Street, and he’s been a cool cat ever since. He’s definitely a legend, and I appreciate everything he’s done for me.
On the project, you feature a few Atlanta artists. You have Young Thug, Lucci, and Cash Out. As a young artist from the city, do you feel like Atlanta artists are open to working together?
I feel like we work together. It’s not really too many people that’s on that, “I’m not really f-cking with him.” A lot of people get along. I feel like that’s what makes the culture go further for Atlanta’s music. We support each other.
You have the song “Power” with YFN Lucci. Was the theme of the song’s video based on real experiences?
That was just a concept I had. It didn’t happen just like that. I could relate to it. A lot of it is kind of [based on real experiences], but I didn’t try to do [what happens in the video].
Your song “La Policia” came out before the Mike Brown killing and the Black Lives Matter movement became a big news item. Why was it important for you to speak on that issue at the time that you did?
With my music, I want to be able to touch somebody’s heart. I want the listeners to relate to me. I feel like there’s not a lot of people still doing that. You might listen to the radio and hear songs about having fun, but you don’t really hear songs with substance much no more. I just wanted to give that to people.
Also, it was based on a real experience I had. Something happened to me the day before. I got pulled over and the police were on some real f-ck sh-t. I went to the studio the next day and wrote that track. Unfortunately, all the stuff happened with police taking a lot of lives, so the song was brought back into action some months later. I wrote that song like a year before it started buzzing.
One of the things you talk about on the song is how people treat undocumented immigrants in this country. That’s a big topic now with Donald Trump. What are your thoughts about Trump saying he’s going to build a wall to prevent Mexicans from coming into the country?
That’s just pure ignorance. I can’t relate to that. At the end of the day, I feel like it’s just entertainment. To me, it’s not real at all. If it was anybody of color saying that, the media would make it a big thing. But because it’s Trump, they’re not going to say nothing to him. That’s why it’s our job as artists to be the voice for the people.
How involved is Pharrell in your career?
He’s very involved. I just seen bro like 2 days ago. He flew me out to L.A. to work. He’s a mentor. He really supports me. He tells me, “You need to do this with your music.” If he sees anything wrong, he just keeps me on the right track.
He played a role in you being featured in Dope.
Pharrell actually helped me with that. I was in Atlanta. I got a call. They said, “I want you to audition for this Dope movie.” I was like, “Cool, I’m with it.” I play a character named Fidel. He’s like this Mexican gangster dude. They didn’t really want me to play it at first. They wanted more of the typical cholo with a bald head and tattoos all over. They gave me a try, and when I got on set they were happy with what I did.
Do people ever come up to you and say, “Are you a real? Or are you a fake?”
[laughs] Yeah, people ask me that. It’s crazy to have an impactful role that a lot of people remember. I remember growing up watching films that were classic to me. When I see people that were in those films now, I’m like, “Damn, that’s bro right there.” I never thought I’d be in a movie. It’s crazy.
Are you interested in doing more acting?
Definitely.
One of your label mates, Bia, was on Sisterhood Of Hip Hop. Any chance we could see Kap G on a reality show in the future?
Not really. I don’t really do the reality shows. Shout out to my homie Bia. She’s killing. She got that song “Gucci Comin Home.” It’s going crazy.
Are there any particular artists you’d like to work with?
I want to work with Kanye one day. He’s my favorite rapper and one of my favorite producers. I want to work with Pharrell on a song, not on production. We always work on production, but we never did a song together before. That would be dope. And just my partners that’s around me.

You did some modeling for Rocksmith. Is that something else you’d like to pursue?
Yeah, I’ll do that. Anything for the check. Shout out to Rocksmith. I like fashion, so hopefully I’ll get into it more.
You’ve said your music is based on your experiences in life. So with your track “Girlfriend,” are your boys now more cautious of you being around their girl after that song came out?
[laughs] Nah, man. I’m a loyal individual. I wouldn’t do my partners like that, and they wouldn’t do me like that. Like I said, that was real. We take flicks with people’s girlfriends. [laughs]
What else do you have coming up in the near future?
I’m definitely shooting the video for my song “Move On Up.” I want to shoot one for “Don’t Need Em” with Thug. We’re going to have new visuals coming soon.
(AllHipHop News) Since his arrival as one of the biggest current superstars in Hip Hop, Kendrick Lamar has been compared to fellow West Coast representative Tupac Shakur. On Ab-Soul’s “ILLuminate,” Kendrick even talked about how some people expect him to fill the shoes of the late 2Pac.
Radio and television personality Charlamagne Tha God spoke with Montreality about the comparison between K. Dot and Pac. The host of The Breakfast Club, Brilliant Idiots, and Uncommon Sense thinks it is unfair to compare the two emcees.
“They will never match up. We have to stop doing that to the new guys. We have to stop putting them on the same level as ghosts,” said Charlamagne. “What I mean by ghosts is guys like 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z, Dr. Dre – those are legendary figures who have already done it. They’ve been through every door that any of these new guys could possibly even think of going through.”
He added, “Tupac Shakur is such a mythical figure that even in his death people question if he’s still alive. In order to get to the level that 2Pac is, Kendrick would have to go through similar situations or situations greater than that, [greater] than death.”
While C Tha God may not feel Kendrick should be placed in the same category as certified legends, Lamar did rap on Big Sean’s “Control” that he was one of the best emcees along with Jay, Nas, Eminem, and Andre 3000. The TDE artist has also repeatedly paid homage to 2Pac, including on the track “Mortal Man” off his Grammy-winning album To Pimp A Butterfly.
(AllHipHop News) Prince’s legacy will live on through his music as well as other memorable moments connected to his life. One of those occasions is Dave Chappelle’s classic “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories” sketch featuring the tale of the “Purple Rain” singer playing basketball.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Comedy Central spokesperson confirmed the famous skit from a 2004 episode of Chappelle’s Show was viewed over 600,000 times since Prince’s death on April 21. Eddie Murphy’s older brother Charlie helped write the sketch where he recalls a notable encounter with Prince in the 1980’s.
Prince would later use a picture of Chappelle dressed as him for the cover art to his 2013’s single “Breakfast Can Wait.” Murphy famously spoke about how Prince served him and his friends pancakes following their game of basketball.
