First Week Sales Predictions For Young Thug’s ‘Jeffery’ Are In

(AllHipHop News) Young Thug managed to generate significant buzz for his Jeffery commercial mixtape when the project’s cover art hit the internet.

The photo of the Atlanta rapper wearing a dress led to both criticism and praise.

Did the cross-dressing hype help Thugger earn high sales?

According to HDD, Jeffery is on pace to sell less than 20,000 copies in its first week.

The industry website predicts Thug will sell around 16,000 – 19,000 out the gate. With streaming numbers added in, the tape could reach 33,000 – 37,000 equivalent album units.

Young Thug’s Slime Season 3 dropped in March of this year.

The 300 Entertainment artist totaled 38,000 album equivalent units with 22,000 sold copies at that time.

If the predictions hold up, the traditional sales for Jeffery will be slightly below those for Slime Season 3.

The two projects could also be very close when it comes to sales plus streaming numbers.

Jeffery is likely to fall well short of the sales/SPS sums of the other new releases from last week.

Florida Georgia Line, Barbra Streisand, and Britney Spears will open in the top 3 spots on the album chart.

Thug is expected to land between 7-9. This would be his second Top 10 project after Slime Season debuted at #7.

Akinyele Avoided A Strip Club War In Favor Of Partnership With Competitor, VLive

(AllHipHop News) Akinyele was supposed to go to war in the world of strip clubs, but instead, the King of Diamonds owner managed to forge a partnership with a major competitor, which lead to the way of a new club on Ocean Drive in Miami.

The rapper shot into the headlines in June, when he announced he was opening a new King of Diamonds on South Beach.

The news caused an immediate uproar and panic in Miami, leading to protests from local residents, who fear the black-owned business will help drive up the crime rate on Ocean Drive.

During the brouhaha, there were questions about exactly what kind of establishment Akinyele was opening.

In episode 7 of his series “The King Of South Beach,” Akinyele revealed that he has struck a partnership with Damon “D.C.” Cobbs, the owner of the VLive brand of strip clubs.

“In the real world, we was supposed to go to war, we was supposed to have that fight,” Akinyele said. “But what we did was, we did something else. We came as one and so ‘yo, how do we make this go to the next level?’”

VLive’s business is growing at a healthy pace with locations in Dallas, Houston, Jackson Mississippi, New Orleans, Phoenix, Atlanta, Chicago and Washington, D.C.

VLive’s owner Damon Cobbs also recognized the positives of working together to open a VLive/KOD brand on Ocean Drive.

It was an opportunity Cobbs said he couldn’t pass up.

“VLive Miami, on South Beach. 13th and Ocean Drive. My man Akinyele called me and said ‘we need to open this thing up to Miami. He said ‘DC you aint made it yet until you came to Miami. I said ‘you know what bro? Your right!”

Desiigner Talks Being An Artist Not A Rapper In Tidal’s “DNA” Series

(AllHipHop News) Desiigner has no problem adopting the use of melody and incoherent lyrics in his music. As a result, the Brooklyn rhymer caught heat from some critics for not embracing a more traditional rap style.

As the latest subject of Tidal’s “DNA” video series, Desiigner spoke about his love for singing. The “Tiimmy Turner” performer also explained that he does not view himself as a “rapper.”

“None of my dudes I chill with are rappers. I don’t put us as rappers. We’re all artists,” stated Desiigner. “In the G.O.O.D. Music camp, we all come around and we show ourselves and present ourselves as artists only.”

The creator of the #1 single “Panda” added it is a “blessing” to be around the acts on the G.O.O.D. Music label. Desiigner, Pusha T, Big Sean, Teyana Taylor, and others are among the people signed to the Kanye West-founded imprint.

Desiigner will also hit the Tidal Stage at the Made In America festival this weekend. Other rising acts set to perform in Philadelphia include Manolo Rose, Levi Carter, Lil Yatchy, Dave East, Sir The Baptist, Bibi Bourelly, Sophie Beem, and several more.

Common Confirms That Erykah Badu Has The “Holy Box”

Over the years it has been rumored that there are some pretty magical things about singer Erykah Badu. It’s clearly believable as she has three rapper baby daddies and she has been rumored to have changed and influenced each rapper that she’s dated.

Common confirmed that Erykah had the iconic box when he stopped by to chat with the Chicago Morning Take Over Radio Show.

The radio hosts first alluded to women like Amber Rose and the Kardashians changing lives. They even joked that Erykah changed Common’s style in fashion choices.

Common grinned and expressed that Erykah certainly has a “holiness” about her and “The Light” was in fact inspired by her. He left it there as he expressed that she’s a Queen.

We all know what he meant though. Erykah’s lady parts are apparently magic!

Common also says he will be putting out some really conscious music.

Vince Staples Discusses Colin Kaepernick’s National Anthem Protest (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Colin Kaepernick’s decision not to stand up during the playing of the national anthem at his football games has sparked a nationwide debate.

Some people took issue with the San Francisco 49ers quarterback for what they perceived as being disrespectful to the country and the military. Those critics included fellow sports figures such as Jerry Rice, Drew Brees, Rodney Harrison, and Jim Harbaugh.

Others supported Kaepernick’s right to quietly object to systemic racism and police brutality. Even many service members stood up for the NFL player with the  #VeteransForKaepernick trending topic on Twitter.

Long Beach emcee Vince Staples expressed his thoughts on the controversy in his own series of tweets. He wrote in one post, “If you all want everyone to love and enjoy the national anthem we should start a [GoFundMe campaign] to get Mustard on the beat.”

The Prima Donna EP creator expounded on his statements during a sit down with Power 106’s The Cruz Show.

“You don’t think that would be fire though?” responded Staples when asked about his suggestion for DJ Mustard to produce “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

He added, “The national anthem is weak… To be honest, I never really sung along with the national anthem in my life.”

Suge Knight’s Robbery Trial Postponed Until Next Year

(AllHipHop News) Embattled rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight’s felony robbery case has been postponed until after his murder trial next year (2017).

The Death Row Records co-founder has been behind bars for more than a year while he awaits trial on charges of murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run following a dispute in Compton, California in January, 2015, when he struck and killed his friend Terry Carter and injured actor Cle Sloan as he tried to race away from the scene.

Meanwhile, he has also been ordered to stand trial for a robbery relating to a 2014 altercation with a paparazzo.

The troubled star and comedian Katt Williams stand accused of attempting to snatch Leslie Redden’s camera during an incident outside a recording studio in Beverly Hills, California in 2014, days after Knight was shot at a party.

They were each slapped with a charge of felony robbery, while Knight also allegedly made criminal threats against the woman during the reported attack.

They have both pleaded not guilty.

The robbery case has been delayed multiple times as Knight struggled with health complications as a result of the shooting incident, and earlier this year (16), his legal team requested the case be postponed until after his murder trial, which is scheduled to begin in February (16). On Tuesday (August 30), the request was granted.

“We agreed it (the robbery case) will trail and be tried after the murder trial,” Knight’s lawyer Thaddeus Culpepper said following the hearing. “It’s so he doesn’t have to be transferred back and forth as much, which can lead to (health) problems.”

The 51-year-old has pleaded not guilty in the murder case, insisting he acted in self-defense.

“He’s feeling better and just wants to prove his innocence,” Culpepper told the New York Daily News.

Are French Montana & Iggy Azalea Officially A Couple Now?

It looks like Iggy Azalea and French Montana could officially be an item.

Rumors began to swirl about the new “couple” when they were spotted celebrating with Jennifer Lopez at an after party in Vegas.

These celebs sure do move on fast; we guess it’s good to see that Iggy is over her cheating ex-fiance, Nick Young.

Sources have revealed to TMZ that French reportedly dropped $60k for a private jet to fly Iggy and her friends to Cabo to hang out for the weekend. Apparently French and Iggy also shared a room in their rented oceanfront home.

Although it hasn’t exactly been confirmed that the two are an official couple yet, we do know that they’ve been spotted kissing and getting extra cozy. Rumor has it that they’ve even cut a track together.

The video is a well visual that extols the virtue of vengeance as Yah Yah commandeers a small fem-posse. Chris Brown Arrested For Felony Assault, Ray J Defends

(AllHipHop News) Chris Brown has been arrested by the LAPD on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Chris Brown’s Tarzana, California home is now a crime scene, allegedly, and the woman that has accused the singer is now talking to the media.

Baylee Curran – the woman that says Brown put a gun to her head – posted a video on her Instagram discussing the ordeal.

In the short video, Curran said, “Do you all honestly think I wanted this and I caused this? If somebody put a gun to your head, what would you do? Call the police?”

That is exactly what she did, causing an hours-long standoff between Chris Brown and the police.

Recently married singer Ray J completely countered Curran’s account.

“Check it out. I am real upset about today. I am not happy with how things are handled and how people can take a false story and blow it up into something way more than what it should be,” Ray J said. “You got positive people around and you look outside and it is like a war zone for no reason. For something that some stranger said about something that ain’t got nothing to do with nothing. And to react like that so fast, without knowing the facts…its not cool.”

Curran’s call to police had police and even police helicopters surrounding Chris Brown’s home in the wee hours of the morning.
Ray J accused Curran of making a run at Chris Brown’s money.

Does 50 Cent Have His Own Future Clone?

These days it seems like everyone wants to sign a Future clone or wants to be one.

Desiigner has been accused of being a Future clone, Master P was accused of signing one, and now G-Unit boss 50 Cent is accused of signing his own Future Hendrix clone, Phresher.

Apparently, gone are the days when artists and regions [strive to] have their own distinctive sounds.

If you were from the north you could listen to the south and west coast, if you were from the south you would listen to the left coast or up north rappers to hear a different sound. It seems like now everyone sounds like they are coming out of Atlanta.

50 Cent’s artist Phresher has received much criticism for trying to “run with Future’s sound”.

Do you think he sounds like Future, or are folks reaching? Ahhhh the era of the mumble rappers.

Is Kanye West Trying To Achieve Peace With Taylor Swift?

It looks like Yeezy Yeezy is still trying to achieve peace with Taylor Swift. The controversial Kanye West seems to be extending an olive branch to Swift as he tweeted an image of a fan wearing a T-shirt that combined the album artwork of West’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ and Swift’s ‘1989’. He tweeted the image with a caption that read,

“Unity Love.”

Despite Taylor’s antics and Grammy shots, it looks like Kanye is taking a page out of Diddy’s book on the #TeamLove tip.

West also seemed to be over his beef with Taylor Swift as he joked about it at the MTV VMAs.

“You know like, people come to me like, ‘Man, that’s right! Tell Taylor to…’ Bro, like I love all y’all! That’s why I called her!” said West.

I don’t know man, this whole ordeal has Kris Jenner publicity stunt written all over it. Whatever works Ye; whatever works.

Drake Becomes First Male Artist To Ever Log 50 Consecutive Weeks On Top 10 Chart

(AllHipHop News) Drake has made history on the U.S pop charts by becoming the first male artist to hit 50 consecutive weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10.

The rapper’s “One Dance” drops a spot from seven to eight on the new countdown, released on Monday (August 29), extending his top 10 stay to 50 weeks, two ahead of Ace of Bass’ run in 1993 and 1994, and 19 behind Katy Perry’s record reign in 2010 and 2011.

Drake’s streak began back in October of 2015, when “Hotline Bling” jumped into the top 10.

Meanwhile, The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” has landed a second week at number one on the Hot 100, holding off Major Lazer’s “Cold Water” at two.

Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” dips a spot to three, while Twenty One Pilots also make chart history, becoming one of only a handful of groups who have scored two top fives in the same week – the band’s “Heathens” from the Suicide Squad: The Album soundtrack comes in at four and “Ride” jumps up a spot to five.

Only three rock acts have managed to score two top five Hot 100 hits in the same week in the chart’s 58-year history – The Beatles and Elvis Presley.

And Twenty One Pilots, aka Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, are only the third duo with top fives in the same week, behind Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Outkast.

Isaiah Rashad Discusses Battling Drug Addiction & Alcoholism

(AllHipHop News) Isaiah Rashad is prepping to release his debut studio album The Sun’s Tirade on September 2. The Top Dawg Entertainment emcee had been mostly off the map since releasing the Clivia Demo EP in 2014.

While appearing on Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds’ Juan Epstein podcast, Rashad discussed why he was not out in the public much over the last two years.

“I got off the ‘Oxymoron Tour’ kind of addicted to Xanax and an alcoholic,” revealed the 25-year-old Tennessee native.

Rashad explained the 2-month European leg of the tour is where he began getting involved in using prescription drugs and excessively drinking alcohol.

“[I just wanted] to be like everyone around me, like all the little rap n-ggas I’d see,” Rashad stated. “I f-cked up. I f-cked up pretty bad. I almost got dropped like three times.”

The substance abuse problems apparently escalated when Rashad returned home. He even suffered medical ailments from the issue.

“I tore my stomach lining,” said Rashad. “I don’t drink often no more, at all for reputational reasons.”

The conversation included Rashad admitting he was in “a really bad place” until about six months ago. Apparently, the other artists at TDE were not aware of his struggles with alcohol and narcotics.

Rosenberg asked Rashad if he was currently off drugs. The “Free Lunch” rapper responded by acknowledging he no longer uses Xans but still drinks periodically.

“It’s more of a test. It’s like, ‘Do I feel like drinking? Do I think I can handle it?’ If I can handle it, I’ll drink,” explained Rashad. “If I don’t think I can handle it, I just be honest with myself and not drink. ‘Cause I know how that turns out. I know I turn into Bobby Brown.”

He continued, “I might f-ck your b-tch.”

Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith supposedly refused to release any music from Isaiah during that period. The songs “Nelly” and “Smile” did not come out until Isaiah “got his sh-t together.”
