HITTING THE STREETS: What Do You Think About The $20 Harriet Tubman?

The cat is out the bag, and yes Harriet Tubman is set to replace president Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill. The United States will have a woman of color on American paper currency!

Many people were thrilled when they heard the news of this change. So like always as of late. The people took it to social media creating tons of memes expressing just that. Predicting how life will be once the brave abolitionist hits the $20 bill. Although we have some time before this change actually takes place. We took it to the NYC streets, to find out how the people felt about the news. The range of emotions is quite wide, from glee to disdain.

Lil Kim Under Fire For Allegedly Bleaching Her Skin

(AllHipHop News) After a recent six-shot photo on Instagram with a noticeably different appearance, Lil Kim is again under fire from internet trolls, fans and fellow Instagramers for allegedly bleaching her skin.

While some of the mean comments on her photo don’t bear repetition, others pleaded with Kim to return to her old self.

Adding to the apparent contrast, Kim subsequently posted an old photo of her with an old friend next to Biggie.

This is not the first time that the Bad Boy alum has come under fire for changing her appearance as Charlamagne The God asked Kim about her surgeries in a Breakfast Club interview back in 2012.

During the interview, Charlamagne hit Lil’ Kim with a very direct question about her cosmetic surgery.

Appearing confused and angered by the question Kim replied, “Why would you ask me that, but there’s so many people who have surgery? I don’t know where that question is coming from.”

Cosmetics companies have long since offered products to lighten skin tones.

From Palmers Cocoa Butter to Loreal to Clinque, many skin lightening products offered at local pharmacies include active ingredients like hydroquinone as well as acidic and alcoholic compounds.

No official comments from Kim on this drama yet, but below we’ve included a host of images over the years showcasing Kim’s various looks.

Lil Yachty Refuses To Diss Trump In CNN Interview, Says Lil B Influenced His Political Beliefs

(AllHipHop News) As political season continues in full swing ahead of November’s presidential elections, Lil Yachty took the time to speak with CNN about his political views.

While the rapper’s crew was reportedly urging him to diss Donald Trump, the “1Night” rapper said he wanted to keep things “positive” and endorsed Bernie Sanders.

Following in the steps of Killer Mike and Lil B among many others that have supported Bernie Sanders, Yachty says people don’t even know the issues.

“A lot of people are just following the masses and … I don’t think they really know what each side holds,” he explained to CNN.

Choosing to stand with Bernie Sanders constituency at the advice of Lil B, Yachty says that Bernie is about equality, “not just because he was with the Civil Rights movement, but because of everything he stands for.”

In addition to endorsing Bernie, Yachty is encouraging all young eligible voters to participate.

“I want to say it’s important that you vote, that you get out there. Everybody’s voice matters. Just make sure that you register, and if (you’re) not going to vote, at least take the time, do some homework on what’s going on.”

Check out the video below that shows Yachty talking to CNN.

Future Disses Desiigner and Ciara In One Swoop

(AllHipHop News) Over the weekend at a concert in Syracuse, NY trap rapper/auto-tuned singer Future had some choice words for both his ex- Ciara and his often said imitator, Desiigner.

While he tried to hype up the tame crowd,  Future took a shot at the “Panda” rapper while also taking a jab at his ex.

“Yall must be some Desiigner fans or Ciara fans, or some sh*t like that.”

The Future, Ciara, “Baby Future” saga has seemingly picked up ever since Ciara got engaged to Russ Wilson.

Both Future and Ciara have sued each for various reasons as their public feud appears to be over the custody of “Baby Future.”

“This btch got control problems. I gotta go through lawyers to see babyfuture…the fckery for 15k a month. I jus want babyfuture that’s all,” Future vented back in January.

Earlier this month Ciara skipped over Future’s name as the 2016 Billboard Awards finalists were announced.

Fans Remember Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes On Anniversary of Passing

(AllHipHop News) Today marks the 14 year anniversary of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ tragic passing in Honduras.

The rapper who was one-third of Platinum selling and Grammy Award winning trio TLC would have been 45 years old today.

On Twitter #LeftEye began to trend nation-wide as fans posted .gifs, memorial photos and other various homages to the femcee.

Originally TLC started as a trio called “Second Nature,” but eventually the group would change the name to’TLC’ and become one of the all-time top-selling female groups in the history of music.

Signed to Arista’s LaFace label, which was managed by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and L.A. Reid, TLC took the world by storm with a string of hits while promoting  safe sex and the use of condoms often attached to their clothes.

TLC’s 1992 debut LP, Ooooooohhh…On the TLC Tip, yielded a host of chart topping hits including  “Baby-Baby-Baby,” “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg” and “What About Your Friends.”

Despite her success musically, “Left Eye” made headlines for her troubles with the law getting charged with felony arson after she set fire to Atlanta Falcon Andre Rison’s house in June of 1993.

Amidst the controversy, TLC also found huge success with their album Crazysexycool that featured their epic hit, “Waterfalls.”

“Left Eye” along with Organized Noize and Marqueze Etheridge, penned one of the group’s biggest hits despite the fact that “Left Eye” often had well-known issues with the group’s direction musically.

“Left Eye” would go on to release solo material but it never reached the success of TLC’s music.

As a soloist “Left Eye” also recorded a host of featured songs with acts ranging from N’sync to Donnell Jones (“U Know Whats Up”)

At one point “Left Eye” signed to Suge Knight’s Tha Row record label where she planned to release solo music under an alternate moniker N.I.N.A..

Trick Daddy Responds To Birdman’s Breakfast Club Interview

When Birdman threw his “respeck” tantrum on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne made sure to make us chuckle by asking Birdman if he pulled up on Rick Ross and Trick Daddy the same way he pulled up on the BC hosts. Well, Trick Daddy was doing The Legends of Southern Hip Hop Concert over the weekend in Jacksonville, Florida, and during his set he addressed Birdman’s Breakfast Club tantrum.

“Was y’all watching The Breakfast Club, y’all hear that sh*t this morning? .. All three of ya,” Trick Daddy said. I got one comment.”

Trick then immediately played his 1998 hit “Nann n*gga.” It looks like Trick is saying Birdman doesn’t want those problems and there wasn’t any pulling up around his way. They are both crazy wild so we hope this is the last we hear of it.

Jermaine Dupri Says Future’s “Commas” & Desiigner’s “Panda” Have The Same Beat

Jermaine Dupri may have made the Desiigner hate grow as he “revealed” that Future’s ” F*ck Up Some Commas” and Desiigner’s “Panda” have the same beat. JD says he really doesn’t care, but he just noticed it when he was messing around on the tables. Some agree, and some feel like they sound nothing alike. We swear so much has sounded just alike for the last few years anyway. SMH. What are your thoughts?

Is Dame Dash’s Ex-Wife The Mistress Beyonce Was Referring To?

This weekend was one for the books with “repeckin'” Birdman and Beyonce getting women and the Beyhive in formation for her Lemonade album and HBO special. Beyonce seemed to suggest that there may have been instances of infidelity in her marriage with Jay Z. In her HBO special she revealed the lyrics to her song “Sorry.” The lines that grabbed the most attention are,

“He only want me when I’m not on there / He better call Becky with the good hair.”

Now rumors have followed Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Dame Dash’s ex-wife, Rachel Roy, for a few years. Many believe the Elevatorgate scandal between Jay Z and Solange popped off because Solonge seeing them (Roy and Jay) together infuriated her. Following the immediate scandal, Rachel released a tweet about how “The beach was better”, referring to Jay’s song. Interestingly enough, after ‘Lemonade’ aired, Roy posted on Instagram a post with a caption that included “Good hair don’t care.” This lead the Beyhive to a massive attack on not only her page but some sorry Beyhive members also mistakenly attacked chef Rachael Ray’s page as well. Roy soon deleted the post and said she supports love and marriage but has to take a stance against bullying. But Rachel brought it on herself. Something is fishy about this entire situation. That Rachel is one messy heaux girl.

Kid Cudi Blasts The Industry & Reveals Suicidal Thoughts

It looks like Kid Cudi is the latest rapper to have a social media meltdown and rant. His rant was a little dark as it also revealed suicidal thoughts. Cudi tweeted,

“I think about blowin my brains out a handful times a week. I fear no one. I gives no f*cks. I’m a warrior in hell.”

Kid Cudi also went on to reveal that he has no friends in the industry and that he’s underappreciated in every aspect of his life. He also seems to feel that no one is messing with him or on his level right now. All in all, in his rant, there did come a positive note. He’s dropping a new album this summer! Are you ready for new music from Kid Cudi? We sure hope he seeks help also.

EXCLUSIVE: Bryshere “Yazz” Gray Talks Playing Michael Bivins In BET’s New Edition Biopic

(AllHipHop Features) Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph, and Johnny are getting the biopic treatment. BET announced the members of the Boston-bred R&B group New Edition will be the subject of an upcoming miniseries about their careers, and Empire star Bryshere “Yazz” Gray was tapped to play New Jack Swing pioneer Michael Bivins.

Gray is part of a cast that includes Keith Powers (Ronnie DeVoe), Woody McClain (Bobby Brown), Elijah Kelley (Ricky Bell), Algee Smith (Ralph Tresvant), and Luke James (Johnny Gill). AllHipHop.com spoke with the 22-year-old rapper/actor by phone from rehearsals for the New Edition miniseries, and Yazz discussed his preparation for taking on the role of Biv.

“I’ve been working with a dialect coach. I went to Boston for about four weeks to really live that Boston life to understand where Michael came from,” says Gray. “I was just learning a lot about him, so I can take that home with me. It’s fun.”

In order to perfect the singing, rapping, and dancing associated with hit records such as “Cool It Now” and “If It Isn’t Love,” Gray and the other performers have been practicing for twelve hours a day. The opportunity to present the story of the founding member of Bell Biv DeVoe was a special assignment for Yazz.

“What made me interested in the project? Anything that’s legendary I want to be part of. I had to be part of it,” adds Gray. “Michael Bivins is the character that stuck out to me from day 1 when I heard New Edition. I was really lucky for them to have me play Michael Bivins, because I love New Edition so much.”

According to Gray, the 3-part biographical movie will cover New Edition from their childhood into the their 30’s. Dante Hoagland (Bivins), Caleb McLaughlin (Bell), Jahi Winston (Tresvant), Myles Truitt (DeVoe), and Tyler Williams (Brown) are set to portray the singers in their younger days.

New Edition: The Movie is scheduled to premiere in 2017. All the members of New Edition are signed on as co-producers. The script was written by Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket) with Chris Robinson (ATL) directing.

Yazz’s talents will also be part of the Empire: Original Soundtrack, Season 2 Volume 2 album being released on April 29. AllHipHop.com recently premiered “Got That Work,” the Philadelphia native’s single from the forthcoming compilation.

The single actually had a remixed version which featured fellow Warner Bros Records artist Big Daddy Kane, but it was never officially released. “Batdance Remix” producer John Luongo recently talked about the union of the musical genius and the Hip Hop star. He also explained why the song never saw the light of day 27 years ago.

“[Kane] had a great reputation. I knew there was a great respect for him in the community. And I think his work and persona was something that Prince appreciated, too.” Luongo told the L.A. Times. “He had a melodic quality to him, which some rappers really didn’t. You put all that together, and it made him a really attractive addition.”

He added, “I remember FedEx was there waiting as I did my best to finish up, so we could make the next plane to rush it over to L.A. and Minnesota to let Warner Bros. and Prince hear what I had done… And then Warner Bros. said they didn’t like it; it was too different. And that was it. They didn’t release it.”

As the network was cutting to commercial, the former NBA player and coach gave a shout out to the Warriors by using Birdman’s words.

“Total team effort by the Warriors. MVP [Steph Curry] goes down, they find a way to get it done,” said Jackson. “When you say Warriors, put some respeck on they name.”

The defending champions went on to defeat the Rockets 121-94. The Warriors managed to take the win despite the fact Curry did not play in the second half of the game because of a knee injury. Houston now trails Golden State 3 games to 1 in the Western Conference first round playoff series.

“Me and Mrs. Jones” Singer Billy Paul Dies Of Cancer

(AllHipHop News) The world of music suffered another loss tonight (April 24) with the death of musician Billy Paul from pancreatic cancer.

Billy Paul’s #1 hit song “Me and Mrs. Jones” was released in 1972 on the album 360 Degrees of Billy Paul.

While he never had a single a huge as “Me and Mrs. Jones,” Billy Paul, 80, leaves behind an influential body of work that includes the albums Ebony Woman, War of The Gods and others.

Billy Paul’s music has been sampled by a variety of Hip-Hop artists including Rick Ross and Game, Gangstarr, J. Dilla, Young Jeezy, Ludacris and Wu-Tang Clan to name a few.

The Grammy Award winning singer recorded for Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff’s Philadelphia International Records. The legendary producers discussed Billy Paul’s legacy in a statement to AllHipHop.com:

“We are very saddened to learn of the sudden death of our good friend and Philadelphia International Records recording artist Billy Paul. From the time we saw Billy performing live, and then signing him to our PIR/TSOP label, we immediately realized that we had discovered and launched one the most unique voices in the music industry. Billy’s voice combined both Jazz, R&B and Soul vocals, making him one the great artists to come out of Philly and to be celebrated worldwide. Our proudest moment with Billy was the recording of the salacious smash ‘Me and Mrs. Jones.’ In our view, it is one of the greatest love songs ever recorded. Billy was one of the first artists to help launch the PIR/TSOP brand, and he will forever have a special place in music history.”
