After accepting the VMA’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Kanye gave a 10 minute speech. The often times rambling address included the GOOD Music founder admitting he smoked weed before going on stage, using the word “bro” excessively, telling the crowd to “listen to the kids,” and announcing he’s running for President of the United States in 2020.

Instagram users pounced on Ye’s claims he’s taking a shot at the White House. Like with any awards show, the memes came out fast, and “President West” and “First Lady Kim Kardashian” were hit with tons of jokes.

Drake’s Manager Says Apple Did Not Block Performance; Tidal Claims To Have Proof

(AllHipHop News) Lil Wayne’s attempt to show love to his city by hosting the first Lil Weezyana Fest appeared to turn into the latest battle between Apple and Tidal. When Drake hit the stage at the New Orleans event, the live stream on Tidal shut down.

The Jay Z fronted company accused Apple of blocking Tidal from streaming Drake. According to reports, Apple threatened to sue Tidal for $20 million if the Toronto entertainer appeared on the platform.

Drake signed a reported $19 million exclusive deal with the tech giant’s new streaming service Apple Music. However, team Drizzy claimed Apple had nothing to do with him not appearing on Tidal’s live broadcast.

“The decision to not have Drake participate in the Tidal stream has nothing to do with Apple or Drake’s deal,” Drake’s manager Future the Prince told BuzzFeed. “I made a business decision. Apple doesn’t have the power to stop us from being part of a live stream. The only people that have the power to do that are Cash Money and Universal, and they’re our partners.”

Tidal then countered Future’s statement by claiming they have proof Apple was involved in the black-out. A representative for Tidal issued a response to Buzzfeed but chose not to provide evidence.

“We have all the email receipts and written correspondence that took place with said, blocked performance. That being said we choose to keep it classy,” stated a Tidal spokesperson.

The Lil Weezyana Fest situation may still be unclear at the moment, but Future the Prince’s statement did confirmed that Drake is still officially signed to Cash Money Records. There had been speculation whether the OVO leader’s latest project If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late was his final album for the label, therefore making him a free agent.

Kanye West Is Running For President? Yup!

Tonight at the Video Music Awards on MTV, Kanye West made a startling revelation…he’s running for president!

As the rapper accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards, h revealed in his acceptance speech that he was running for president in 2020.

At the end of the speech he said:

It’s about ideas bro, new ideas bro. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.

Here is Kanye West’s full speech from the VMAs.

Bro, bro, listen to the kids. Jeremy, I got to put it down for a second, it’s beautiful, Jeremy Scott designed… First of all, thank you Taylor for being so gracious and giving me this award this evening. And I often think back to the first day that I met you. Also, you know, I think about when I’m in the grocery store with my daughter and I have a really great conversation about fresh juice, you know, and at the end they say, “You’re not that bad after all.” And I think about it sometimes, like it crosses my mind when I go to a baseball game and 60,000 people boo me. It crosses my mind a little bit.

And I think, if I had to do it all again, what would i have done? Would I have worn a leather shirt? Would I have drank half a bottle of Hennessy and given the rest to the audience? Y’all know you drank that bottle too. If I had a daughter at that time, would I have went on stage and grabbed the mic from someone else’s…

You know this arena, tomorrow, it’s gonna be a completely different set up or something like that. This stage will be gone. After that night, the stage will be gone, but the effect it had on people will remain. The problem was the contradiction. The contradiction is: I do fight for artists, but in that fight I somehow was disrespectful to artists. I didn’t know how to say the right thing, the perfect thing. I just… I sat at the Grammys and saw Justin Timberlake and Cee-Lo lose. Gnarls Barkley and the Future Sex album… Justin, I ain’t trying to put you on blast but I saw that man in tears, bro. And I was thinking like, he deserves to win album of the year. And this small box that we are in as the entertainers of the evening. How could you explain that? Sometimes I feel like, you know, all this b####### that they run about beef and all that, sometimes I feel like I died for the artist’s opinion. For the artists to be able to have an opinion after they were successful. I’m not no politician, bro. And look at that. You know how many times MTV ran that footage again? ’cause it got them more ratings. You know how many times they announced that Taylor was gonna give me the award? ’cause it got them more ratings. Listen to the kids, bro.

I still don’t understand award shows. I don’t understand how they get five people who worked their entire life one sold records, sold concert tickets, to come stand on a carpet and for the first time in their life be judged on a chopping block and have the opportunity to be considered a loser. I don’t understand it, brah. I don’t understand when the biggest album and the biggest video… I’ve been conflicted, bro! I just wanted people to like me more. F### it bro.

Two thousand and fifteen. I will die for the art, for what I believe in. The art ain’t always gonna be polite. Y’all might be thinking right now, “I wonder, did he smoke something before he came here?” The answer is yes, I rolled up a little something to knock the edge off. I don’t know what’s gonna happen tonight. I don’t know what’s gonna happen tomorrow, bro. But all I can say to my artist, my fellow artist, just worry about how you feel at the time man.

Just worry about how you feel and don’t never… I’m confident, I believe in myself. We the millennials, bro. This is a new mentality. We’re not gonna control our kids with brands. We’re not gonna teach low self esteem and that to our kids. We gonna teach our kids that they can be something. We’re gonna teach our kids that they can stand up for themselves. We’re gonna teach our kids to believe in themselves. If my grandfather was here right now he would not let me back down. I don’t know what I’m finna lose after this, but don’t matter though cause it’s not about me. It’s about ideas bro, new ideas bro. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.

Lupe Fiasco dropped a surprise mixtape Saturday (August 29th) that totaled 6 songs and has no features. The King Tut themed art plays out on the cover as a pixilated close up of a digitized King Tut coffin. The tape starts off with some dialogue that sounds almost like a video game or History Channel show talking about Egypt’s history and then Lupe unleashes a punishing verse that will get you thinking a la some Kendrick. The tape isnt’t that long, but theres’s a lesson and method to the madness that is Lupe, just pay attention and you will see it. Press play below

Will Apple Sue Tidal For $20 Million Over Drake Performance?

Drake performed at a charity event for his friend and kinda sorta boss Lil Wayne. It was for the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, an event that decimated Wayne’s native New Orleans.

Well, Drake’s deal with Apple Music prompted a blackout of the Canadians performance, which was being streamed live on Tidal.

Now, there are rumors that Apple may sue Tidal.

The New York Post reports:

Apple Music declared war on rival streaming service, Jay Z’s Tidal, over Drake’s appearance at a charity concert to benefit kids affected by Hurricane Katrina. Tidal faces being sued for $20 million if it streamed Apple artist Drake’s brief two-song appearance at the Friday night show.

Apple Music execs were not happy when Drake was confirmed to perform at Lil Wayne’s Lil WeezyAna Fest in New Orleans Friday night, even though the festival benefits Tha Carter Fund, which supports after-school programs in Louisiana.
Lawyers were called in because the event was being streamed live via Tidal — and Drake has an exclusive deal with Apple Music said to be worth up to $19 million. Sources say the tech giant threatened to sue for $20 million if Drake appeared, or if his music was streamed live, on Tidal.

A source told us, “Legal letters have been sent to Tidal warning that Drake cannot appear on the Tidal stream of the festival, either solo or part of a group, and if the warning was ignored, the liabilities could be up to $20 million.
“This event is for charity, Drake is doing two songs. Why does Apple think it can dictate to artists where and when they can perform?”

The Post reported Drake has a $19 million deal with Apple as one of the artists who helped them launch their new streaming service.

ALTERNATIVE PICK – Kelly Jenene – “Katrina”

You can’t perform in New Orleans unless you are a real talent – there’s just too many acts on the vibrant scene known for it historic performances. So when Kelly Jenene, a 15 year-old singer/songwriter from New Orleans, Louisiana started getting attention online with her timely song about the events of Hurricane Katrina, we had to take note. Inspired to sing by her late father, Kelly wrote her first single “Katrina” at the young of 9 years old.

She later recorded the single at 12, sharing it with adults in her family who found comfort and strength in the young girl’s honest ballad. Today she shares her gift with all of us, honoring the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with her first official release.

The song is simple but the message echoes music of perseverance during struggle and it sounds so New Orleans as far as production goes.  Right now its important to recognize that this event destroyed many lives, this is just one voice, but she speaks for many and you can hear that energy in this song – this is what the music is all about.
