Childish Gambino Heckled & Booed Off Stage In Australia

(AllHipHop News) Apparently some rap fans down under were not pleased with the performance of American artist Childish Gambino. The Atlanta native was in Australia to perform at The Cambridge Hotel, and according to reports the “3005” creator was heckled and booed by audience members.

The Herald reports concert goers were demanding a refund after Gambino (aka Donald Glover) barely performed any of his songs. Instead, he was said to have stayed behind the DJ booth for nearly an hour as a group named Royalty performed for the bulk of the time.

Gambino finally took the microphone around 40 minutes into the show, but his set ended with audience members chanting obscenities.

The Cambridge Hotel issued the following statement on Facebook:

To everyone who came to see Childish Gambino show last night we are as disappointed as all of you.

We had the opportunity to present Childish Gambino to Newcastle in an intimate gig and we jumped at the chance as we aim to bring the best possible acts to Newcastle for music lovers. As seen last night, unfortunately we have no control over the acts performance once on stage.

For those that aren’t aware, Canberra and ourselves were 2 additional Childish Gambino shows that were promoted in the exact same way as part of his current tour and we were extremely excited to be presented with this opportunity. Subsequently he didn’t deliver on what was billed and expected by everyone, including us.

The Cambridge strives to deliver Newcastle the highest quality live music possible and we will continue to do so.

Like you, we were equally excited to present the act and its only matched by the disappointment in the performance by the act.

Big Apachee event promoter Marcus Wright told the Guardian Australia Gambino was expected to perform a full show. He stated, “as per the contract that we have signed, honored and paid for. There are no words in the contract about a DJ set.”

Gambino has canceled a performance at Canberra’s Academy Club for today (October 2). He is still scheduled to appear at festivals in Sydney and Brisbane over the weekend.

According to HitsDailyDouble, Fetty Wap only sold close to 60,000 pure albums. The rest of the 110,000 units came from track equivalent album and streaming equivalent album totals.

Last week’s top project came from Drake and Future. The duo’s What A Time To Be Alive is looking to fall to #2 on the album chart. The joint effort opened with 375,000 units (334,000 pure album sales).

Ms. Lauryn Hill Reportedly Working On The Follow-Up To ‘The Miseducation’

(AllHipHop News) The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is widely considered one of the greatest albums of all time. The LP made Lauryn Hill into a musical icon, and it was the first Hip Hop album to win a Grammy for “Album of the Year.” Could a long-awaited official follow-up to the classic 1998 project be on the way?

Music producer Phil Nicolo spoke with The Fader. He revealed Lauryn’s recent work on Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone is pushing the star closer to a comeback. The compilation album was an accompanying piece to the Netflix Nina Simone documentary What Happened, Miss Simone?

Nicolo has been working with Ms. Hill, and he says the rapper/singer’s new work is musical, political, and personal. After a stint in prison and five years of touring, it appears the former Fugees member is in a constructive and creative mind state.

“When she was first getting back into it, there were times when she wasn’t as positive,” stated Nicolo. “But I think she’s in the best place I’ve ever seen her. She seems happy and very centered. When I see her, her face lights up.”

What Happened, Miss Simone? film producer Jayson Jackson echoed Nicolo’s current assessment of Ms. Hill. Jackson played a big role in getting the reclusive artist to contribute six songs to Nina Revisited.

“I can say this: I know creating makes her very happy,” said Jackson. “I couldn’t see her doing as much as she did [on the Simone project] in any state other than happiness.”

Combining classic East Coast rhymes, dope visuals and a sound that reminds you of the Golden Age of Hip-Hop, Dave East gives us great hope for the Mass Appeal imprint going forward (we already liked Fashawn’s most recent stuff). Dave has that throwback feel to his music – nothing to hate about here.

CJ creates an aura for himself that lets you know he thinks your girlfriend can be had at any time & at the same time tells you he would not come home to her. This one is a pure slapper.
