Cyhi told Revolt:

When you look at Whitney Houston albums, Michael Jackson albums, you look at their credits – everybody gets credit. The programmers, the brainstormers, the dude who tightens the strings on the guitar. Everybody gets credit when you’re doing monumental music.

Now, if you’re just going in, jump on the beat, smoke your weed, drink your lean, then it might just be two people on the record. When you’ve got a responsibility for pop culture, Hip Hop culture, and the world you can’t be in there thinking by yourself…

He ain’t think of these great ideas by himself. He’s getting inspired by different people. It’s a brainstorm. It’s a think tank. That’s what we’re trying to get people to understand. We involve everybody. That’s just what we’re trying to give the young culture. Let them know everybody’s got to work together.

The Atlanta rapper appeared on Kanye’s 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and the GOOD Music compilation Cruel Summer. Cyhi has also released his own mixtapes including this year’s BHP 2: N.A.A.C.P.

Velous On Hot 97's Ebro In The Morning

Today he paid a visit to Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning and shed some light on how the track came to be, his musical qualifications, working with French Montana as well as a slew of other artists and much more. Velous appeared on Fabolous’ “Gone For The Winter”, DJ Spinking’s “Adult Swim” alongside Tyga and Jeremih and is set to release his debut project “The Disco” very soon.

Saga Ft. Roc Marciano – "City Streets" (P###. By Marco Polo)

The “City Streets” are both a blessing and a curse: the former for birthing some of Hip-Hop’s most notable figures and giving us an insight into what it takes to get by, while the latter has unfortunately trapped those who have become addicted to the fast life. Meet Brooklyn upstart emcee, Saga, an artist that has managed to seamlessly blend both worlds. Influenced by Brooklyn’s finest, the up and comer makes use of his rhyming fundamentals and lyrical dexterity to elevate himself to become one of the borough’s formidable acts of the contemporary era. For the haters and biters out there, let “City Streets” be proof of Saga’s dedication to self mastery. Trading verses with Roc Marciano, over a criminally minded Marco Polo backdrop, only adds to the allure as to what he has to offer. “City Streets” is the first track taken from Saga’s forthcoming EP, From Out of the Shadows, which is produced entirely by Marco Polo. Stay tuned for more leaks and visuals to follow from this upcoming collaborative effort!

Centric TV and LeToya Luckett hosted a “Single Ladies” Sip & Share: A Beyond Brunch Experience” this weekend at the W Hotel Midtown in Atlanta. Luckett and designer Anthony Williams both showcased the new season of “Single Ladies” (which is moving to Centric) and all the fashion the fans love from the show. Luckett also stated that her character, Felicia, is woman of power that demands respect. Centric has now reemerged as the first network for Black Women; this is a bold new move for the network! Black women have gone a long time unheard, and the network has made it a priority to celebrate the diversity of the Black woman. Centric stated that they didn’t “arrive” overnight with the new format but instead they started months ago with field research. Centric representatives interviewed a diverse group of Black women from all age groups. According to the network, Black women wanted to see themselves represented and represented in a holistic way. This lead to Centric proclaiming its commitment to realize that women are stars, and stars are real women. Centric plans to represent the Black woman from the boardroom to the bedroom. It is also a goal of the network to create a new identity space without judgment, but instead with style and grace in all aspects. It is exciting to see Centric reemerge with this format as this type of content deserves a space available on all platforms 365.

Pluto- "Temporary Mind"

Toronto has seen its influx of talent over the past few years with Drake and Abel (The Weeknd), but now young, up-and-coming artist Pluto aims to make his mark as well. His experimental tracks, like “Temporary Mind” from his Jessica EP, are proof of that. The visuals for this emotionally-candid track begin with nothing but angsty piano strokes and Pluto’s faintly-audible crooning. This then develops into heart-heavy lyrics and deeply-toned descriptions of the lows induced by a relationship that is now long gone. Many know about the emotional distress that comes from an untimely breakup, but Pluto successfully brings these emotions to life. With the help of short film director Peter Hatch, Pluto was able to craft the beautiful, yet disturbing retelling of his tumultuous relationship. The 1950’s/film noir stylized video can be found HERE, viewer discretion is advised.

Naked And Unarmed Georgia Man Killed By Police

A 27-year-old Georgia man was shot yesterday (Mar. 9) in Chamblee, GA by Dekalb County Police, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. Anthony Hill, who suffered from bipolar disorder, was naked and unarmed at the time of the shooting.

Police were responding to a call that said a “suspicious person” was crawling around The Heights at Chamblee apartment complex naked and knocking on residents’ doors. When police approached him, Hill began to run towards them and when he didn’t listen to demands to stop, he was shot twice. The officer who pulled the trigger is a seven-year vet whose identity has not been revealed. He is currently being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to see if he acted appropriately, considering that Hill was mentally ill. He’s also on administrative leave.

Cedric Alexander, director of the county public safety department, said that the police force receives training on how to deal with the mentally ill but their training may need to be revamped.

Common Wants To Play The Green Lantern

Common’s acting career has flourished over the past few years and he shows no signs of slowing down. He has acted alongside the likes of Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington in successful films but there is one role that slipped away that. The “Glory” rapper was in the running to play Green Lantern in the late 2000s but the opportunity never came to fruition. In a recent chat with ScreenRant, the Chi-town rep revealed that he would still take on that role if he had the chance.

“I would love to be John Stewart and play Green Lantern,” he said. “That was one of those things where I was so excited because we rarely see African-American superheroes or people of color as a superhero. I think it would be great for the world to see, and for people to see, and for Hollywood to put that out there, too. But just for the world to see, just for kids to be able to see, for all nationalities to see a person of color as a superhero, too.”

The Oscar-winning emcee also said he could relate to John Stewart because he was conscious of his community’s issues just as he is.

“John Stewart is from Detroit, so he was this guy that was really for the community, and I really related to that. He used his powers to help people in the community. I was like, ‘Man, I’m going to be John Stewart, the Green Lantern!’ Unfortunately, it didn’t happen at that time. But maybe the possibility is that it could. I would love to.”

The next Green Lantern movie is slated to hit movie theaters on June 20th, 2020.

You can currently catch Com on the big screen in the action flick Run All Night.
