Fresno, California emerging artist, L!Z is back with a new single and is solidifying why he is an artist to watch out for in 2015. The California native enters the Hip-Hop & R&B Billboard charts at #49 with the new club record “Love My Chick” featuring R&B artist Raven Justice. ” Love My Chick” is an uptempo summer banger that is currently impacting radio stations in over 50 cities across the country. The Tyme Records signee first debuted the new single this past Spring during a performance at the SXSW festival.

PREMIERE: Ali Vegas – “Moses”

Queens’ rhymer, Ali Vegas has been a pillar of the borough’s Hip-Hop community, since he jumped on the scene in the late ’90s. After years of label politics, self released mixtapes, and album campaigns, Vegas has remained lyrically fit, dropping thought provoking verses with reckless abandon.

For his latest effort, the Queen’s native takes to the mic like “Moses,” delivering prophetic verses that will sustain his legacy to any haters or doubters, as one of Queen’s finest. Produced by DJ Supa Dave, who borrows from The Whatnauts “Friends by Day (Lovers by Nights),” the Brentwood-based beatsmith crafts a soulful banger for Vegas to preach the gospel.

“If David could go against Goliath with a stone, I go at Nas and Jigga, both for the throne…”

“Moses” is available on Vegas’ recently released full length LP, God Bless the Child, which is now available for download through iTunes, and all other major digital retailers, courtesy of, Alpha Beta Paper/Deep Concepts Media/Seven 13.

Taylor J – “She Luv Me” (VIDEO)

Taylor J is currently prepping for the July release of his upcoming project “1991” and today unleashes a brand new video for his female fans. Sort of. Whilst the Minnesota native definitely shows us his softer side on “She Luv Me”, the song is more an ode to his prowess with the ladies than a love song. To hear him tell it, although fidelity might not be on the table, it’s all good cuz he just got it like that. The Ric & Thadeus-produced track provides the perfect soundtrack for Taylor to brag over while the Dontell Antonio-directed visual definitely brings the standout track to life. Enjoy it below.

FRESH HEAT: Chi City x Danny Seth – “The Kings Speech”

From the U.S to the U.K,  there’s no market midwest native Chi City can’t tap into. With the release of his latest track which he collabs with British emcee Danny Seth sets the tone for something that is not only refreshing and dope,  but also commending the fact that the culture of Hip Hop sounds just as great coming from another country.  While I could go on and on about how great this  The Ninety’s produced record is,  but at this point its no surprise that when ever the cleaver lyricism of Chi City is at play, you can almost guarantee a classic release. You can expect a new EP from Chi City this Summer titled “8”.

NAACP Releases Statement Supporting Rachel Dolezal

The NAACP has released a statement addressing the uproar surrounding Rachel Dolezal, the president of the Spokane, WA NAACP chapter who has been identifying as black but is actually a white woman. In their statement, they are offering support to Dolezal and standing by her.

Baltimore, MD – For 106 years, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has held a long and proud tradition of receiving support from people of all faiths, races, colors and creeds. NAACP Spokane Washington Branch President Rachel Dolezal is enduring a legal issue with her family, and we respect her privacy in this matter. One’s racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership. The NAACP Alaska-Oregon-Washington State Conference stands behind Ms. Dolezal’s advocacy record. In every corner of this country, the NAACP remains committed to securing political, educational, and economic justice for all people, and we encourage Americans of all stripes to become members and serve as leaders in our organization.

Hate language sent through mail and social media along with credible threats continue to be a serious issue for our units in the Pacific Northwest and across the nation. We take all threats seriously  and encourage the FBI and the Department of Justice to fully investigate each occurrence.

Dolezal’s parents, Ruthanne and Larry, revealed to the media that they are white and so is their daughter. In an interview with the Spokesman-Review, they said that she had been pretending to be a black woman since 2006 or 2007.

Temperature’s Rising: Reid The Martian

“We are not the same, I am a martian” is one of Lil Wayne’s most famous quotes. It’s sort of weird to think of rappers as aliens, but when one delves deeper, the symbolism is befitting. In the last few years, despite plenty who love to dabble in “the same ol’ s###,” Hip Hop has been blessed with a multitude of emcees who think outside the box when it comes to straying away from tiresome tradition. Chance The Rapper and The Social Experiment’s recent Surf LP is a fantastic excursion through disparate sounds. A$AP Rocky’s A.L.L.A is a fuse of 60’s psychedelic tones and bombastic hip-hop. Of course, the entire world is fawning over intricate To Pimp A Butterfly, with professor Brian Mooney recently posting an article entitled “Why I Dropped Everything and Started Teaching Kendrick Lamar’s New Album.” In my honest estimation, the so-called “aliens” are the artists I constantly finding myself not only listening to but eagerly anticipating their new releases with an borderline psychotic enthusiasm. With the recent release of his experimental yet engaging EP Hardball, Reid is a on his own personal mission to guide the masses outside the orbit into foreign sonic territory.

But Reid is not from Area 51 or some far-off planet, but South Bend, Indiana in fact. His fondness for all things music-related can be directly attributed to his upbringings. While he bears no kinship to the late Michael Jackson, his father did play drums for Davy Jones of The Monkees. Years later, in 2010, Reid began attending the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. While there, his band Auburn Skies changed lineups and re-branded as Wolf, the Rabbit. In 2011, Reid left KU, dissolved Wolf, the Rabbit and began pursuing a solo career in the Hip Hop field. Reid’s first two singles as an independent hip hop artist— “Introduction” and “Work”—were released in March 2012, under the name Rabbiteater. Also at this time he began making live appearances in the Midwest area, including Lawrence, Denver and parts of Texas. A couple years later after honing his craft, Red was invited to perform at this year’s legendary SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

With buzz exponentially increasing, Reid is ready to issue his mission statement on the five track EP Hardball. On “Truth Is,” Reid samples “The Thong Song” and turns it flips it into a lengthy vent about the problems of the mainstream scene and what sets him apart. “Me Vs. The Real World” showcases his extreme confidence in his vision without coming across as the hollow braggadocio lyrics we are used to hearing from rappers. The overarching constant in the music is a sort of “f### you if you don’t like it” approach, especially the EP’s self-titled track, “Hardball.” It is the same attitude that has acted as the impetus to many transcendental artists. Even though their styles are significantly different, Lil Wayne has built his career off the same philosophy.

Sprite is one of the few brands that has regularly incorporated hip-hop into their campaigns and that is a tradition that they are continuing to uphold. For their summer 2015 campaign, “Obey Your Verse,” quotes from some of hip-hop’s finest will adorn the Sprite can.

“Sprite recognized and respected the power of Hip-Hop early, and it became a part of the brand’s essence decades ago,” said Kimberly Paige, Vice President, Sprite Brands and Flavors, Coca-Cola North America in a statement. “By honoring and recognizing great lyricism from some of the genre’s biggest icons on our product packaging, we’re demonstrating how Sprite continues to support hip-hop artists that remain true to themselves.”

Each can will feature one of 16 lyrics from the likes of Nas, the Notorious B.I.G, Rakim and Drake, who was featured in their “The Spark” campaign.

Nas also expressed his excitement about this campaign contributing to his legacy.
