Last night’s Superbowl halftime performance (Feb. 1) featuring Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott caused a Spotify frenzy. All of the artists saw a spike in traffic on there accounts but no one had more than Miss E. Activity on her account reportedly increased by 676 percent.
Of course the songs that she performed during her surprise appearance got the most attention. Her 2005 single “Lose Control” saw a increase in streaming by 1,396 percent, “Get Ur Freak On,” plays increased by 922 percent and “Work It,” had a streaming increase of 896 percent.
Spotify came up with these numbers by comparing her number of streams from an hour before her performance to the traffic received between 11:00 p.m and midnight.
Traffic to Katy Perry’s account increased by 85 percent while Lenny Kravitz saw a boost of 103 percent to his profile.

While the commercials during last night’s Superbowl lacked the comedic relief many were looking for, after the game Jimmy Fallon, Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell supplied the laughs on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The three funny men, who are co-starring in the new comedy flick Get Hard, sung their hearts out in a lip sync battle. While Will Ferrell kept it sexy with Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love,” Jimmy Fallon rocked out with Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone” and “(I’ve Had) The time Of My Life” and Kevin Hart serenaded Ferrell with John Legend’s “All Of Me” and then channeled his inner pop star and sang Katy Perry’s “Roar.”

Over the weekend, Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was rushed to an Atlanta hospital after being found face down in her bathtub in her home. Now it is being reported that the 21-year-old is brain dead.
According to reports, she has “lost oxygen to her brain for too long.”
While details are slowing emerging, her father, Bobby Brown, has issued a statement asking that the public respect their privacy during this tough time.
“Privacy is requested in this matter,” the 45-year-old singer said in a statement to E! News. “Please allow for my family to deal with this matter and give my daughter the love and support she needs at this time.”
Though she is breathing with the help of a ventilator, it has been confirmed that Bobbi Kristina is not in a medically induced coma, which was previously reported.
A family source told People that her father is “inconsolable.”
“This is his worst nightmare. Losing Whitney [Houston] was hard, but this is a million times worse, and to lose her in the same way would devastate him.”
The source also revealed that Bobbi Kristina’s recovery is possible but it would be a miracle if it happened.
It was rumored that Missy Elliott would Join pop star Katy Perry during the Superbowl halftime show last night (Feb. 1) and she didn’t disappoint. After Perry performed a medley of her hits including “Roar,” “I Kissed A Girl” with Lenny Kravitz, “Teenage Dream” and “California Girls,” Missy came through and stole the show. The producer/songwriter performed “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” and “Lose Control.”
The “Dark Horse” singer put on an eclectic show as well. Besides having four costume changes, she kicked off her performance by entering on a giant Voltron-ish mechanical tiger while performing “Roar” and ended the mini-concert by soaring over the crowd while singing “Fireworks.”
“Understand me when I tell you that after I pay all my homage, I’m tryna s**t and then vomit. Find all the Dragon Balls and wish for a comet to kamehameha they ass,” raps Jay IDK on his track “Hungry.” Those ambitious lines come immediately after the DMV emcee admits being a student of rap legends Big L, 2Pac, and Nas.
The significance of Jay’s bars is that they provide a clear-cut example the 22-year-old performer respects the rap forefathers who paved the way for him, but at the same time, the lyrics exhibit Jay’s ultimate goal to one day be considered among the greats. Early indication suggests the HXLY TRiBE member has the potential to achieve his objective.
Jay’s 2014 debut album Sex, Drugs And Homework is a trippy journey through the mind of an artist that openly embraces a mixture of new wave R&B with turn-up Hip Hop, higher learning consciousness with brash youthfulness, and spellbinding production with uncontrived lyricism.
It all comes together in the spirit of the meaning behind the IDK in Jay’s name – Ignorantly Delivering Knowledge. The moniker is exemplified in his personal history as well.
Jay honed his raps skills in a college classroom as well as in a jail cell. Some of the songs from SD&H were actually written while Jay was incarcerated, and his class time at Prince George’s County Community College was mostly spent putting rhymes together.
The former computer science student kicked off 2015 with the visuals for “Hungry” which followed the release of the buzz-worthy video for “Two Hoes” in September. Jay is now completing his next project SubTrap with his in-house production team Lo-Fi. He will also be heading to Austin, Texas in March to perform at the SXSW Festival.
In the latest installment of “Three Questions,” AllHipHop.com got Jay IDK to share one of his most unforgettable high experiences and name the individuals the rapper/producer/director finds trustworthy.
You talk about drugs a lot on Sex, Drugs And Homework. What’s one of the wildest experiences you’ve ever had while you were high?
It had to be my first time getting high. I didn’t know I was going to get high. You know how the first couple of times you smoke you don’t know what you’re doing, you don’t really get high? I smoked, and I thought, “This weed don’t do nothing to me.”
One day [my friend and I] were at the bus stop right before the bus was about to come. We smoked, and I didn’t get high right away. Soon as I got on the bus…. I was like “Whoa, what the hell is going on?” I didn’t know the feeling.
I’m usually the quiet guy on the bus, but because I was high, I was clowning everybody. N***as was like, “What the hell is wrong with this dude?” I told my friend, “I don’t think I can go to school. This isn’t a good idea. I can’t be like this.”
At DuVal High School you would have to go into the gym first before you’d go to class. Everybody’s in the gym, and I just started dancing in front of everybody. This was like the first couple of days of school. I was just doing whatever. I was just that high.
I ended up going to class, but what saved me was lunch time. Once I had lunch, I went back to normal. That s**t was crazy – first time ever getting high. [laughs]
If you had to live the life of any Dragon Ball Z character who would it be?
I will have to say the cliché s**t and go with Goku. He was the man. He was the leader. Even though he died, he still came back.
I think my favorite [character] growing up was Vegeta, and then Trunks later on. But Goku is who I would pick, because his role is kind of more so what I’m doing. I’m like the frontman in our collective. I’m the one who’s somewhat of the leader, so Goku would be the one.
On your song “Two Hoes” you say you don’t trust no hoes. So who do you trust?
I trust my family. I trust the people I do business closely with. Definitely, not hoes though. I learned that a long time ago. [laughs]
I trust my parents. I trust my team. Some of my family members… not even my family members. They be on that s**t too. They see certain things I’m doing, and they’re asking for money already.
I’m like, “What? Are you serious? Damn, s**t hasn’t even started yet, and this is how I’m getting treated.” [laughs] So yeah, it ain’t too many people.

Bad Boy founder Sean “Diddy” Combs was one of the major players in that heated situation between the two Hip Hop icons. Pac even took direct shots at Diddy on his classic diss track “Hit ‘Em Up.”
With many years passing since 2Pac and Biggie were both gunned down, Diddy has apparently moved past whatever differences he may have had with the All Eyez On Mealbum creator. Combs recently uploaded a couple of pictures of Pac to his Instagram page. One photo featured Tupac, B.I.G., and Diddy together. Another IG photo of the West Coast representative included Combs writing the caption “#KING#PAC.”
(AllHipHop News) Suge Knight is facing felony murder charges for the death of Terry Carter after the former head of Death Row Records allegedly struck the victim with his truck. According to TMZ, not only is Knight claiming he was “in fear of his life” that night, but he is now asserting he did not even know he struck Carter with his vehicle.
Sources told the site Suge has said he was bewildered from supposedly being attacked earlier that evening by 2 to 4 people. The 49-year-old California native also stated he was still weak from his shooting over the summer. As a result, Knight was not aware he hit anyone when he fled the scene.
There was also another person that was apparently hit by Knight’s truck. Police are investigating if Knight purposely tried to run down a man that media outlets have identified as Cle “Bone” Sloan. Los Angeles County Sheriffs have said they spoke to witnesses that claim the hit-and-run appeared to be intentional.
“Looks like he drove backwards and struck the victims and drove forwards and struck them again,” said L.A. County sheriff’s Lt. John Corina. “The people we talked to say it looked like it was an intentional act.”
After turning himself into the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, Knight was arrested. His bail was set at $2 million.
(AllHipHop News) Kanye West is heading back to Saturday Night Live for the show’s 40th anniversary special. While the Chicago rhymer has had some choice words to say about NBC’s late night program (he famously rapped “f**k SNL and the whole cast” on his 2010 song “Power”), Ye has also presented big performances on the sketch comedy show in the past.
West will be joined that night by pop star Justin Timberlake. The former NSYNC member actually used the SNL platform back in 2013 to respond to comments Kanye made about his single “Suit & Tie” featuring Jay Z.
JT changed the lyrics on the song to say “my hit’s so sick got rappers acting dramatic” after Ye told a London crowd, “I got love for Hov, but I ain’t f**king with that ‘Suit & Tie’.” The two artists eventually settled their issues.
Besides Timberlake and West, other guests scheduled to make appearances at SNL 40 include Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell, Robert Deniro, Derek Jeter, Peyton Manning, Tina Fey, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, and more. The show will air on February 15.

Last night there was some sort of event at Greystone VIP Club in Los Angeles with 2Chainz. But the side bar is that Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill walked up in the place hand-in-hand. (AllHipHop News) Last night quarterback Tom Brady, head coach Bill Belichick, and the New England Patriots edged past the Seattle Seahawks to win the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl title. The Seahawks seemed certain to win back-to-back championships as the Russell Wilson led team lined-up on the 1 yard line with under 30 seconds left in the game.
On second down and goal, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll decided to go with a pass play instead of handing the ball off to star running back Marshawn Lynch. Instead of the defending champions closing out a game winning drive, Patriots defensive back Malcolm Butler picked off Wilson to secure the victory for the Patriots.

Bay Area standout Larry June premieres the visuals for his single “My Paisa.” Last fall, Larry June of The Freeminded collective teamed up with Atlanta-based producer TM88 of 808 Mafia to drop Route 80, a fusion of East Coast meets West Coast trap rap that effectively showcased the burgeoning similarities between the Bay Area’s rap scene and ATL’s already well-known Southern sound culture. Today, they’re dropping the visuals for one of the singles, “My Paisa,” directed by Adrian Per.

BADBADNOTGOOD
We’ve talked about this Toronto jazz collective in the past, but their catalogue has become doper every project. BADBADNOTGOOD first started showing up in 2011 with their jazzy remake of tracks off of Tyler, The Creator’s album “Bastard”. The Odd Future leader ended up doing a jam session with them too.They even remixed Gang Starr’s “Mass Appeal” and A Tribe Called Quest’s classic “Electric Relaxation.” Now, BBNG has been working with Ghostface Killah, dropping the single “Six Degrees” last year, and even recently releasing a video for their collab with MF Doom. Don’t sleep on BADBADNOTGOOD.
Phony Ppl
Back in 2012, Phony Ppl released their debut project Phonyland. Three albums later, and they still killing the game. Last month, the Brooklyn-based act released their latest project Yesterday’s Project. Their particular sound is reinforces several characteristics of a dope hip hop band. Two vocalists bring in the smooth vocals and aggressive rhymes, while their instrument musicians create a dope beat infused euphoric sounds. They even made their latest single “Why iii Love The Moon” just from a random jam session. How cool is that for you?
The Boombachs
Even though we haven’t heard anything from this Texas band in a while, The Boombachs is still a band to check out. Their vocalist, Adonias “A.D.” Wondwessenm, is a dope artist that leads the band with his rhymes, however, the band itself makes the beats that has a life of its own. The two attributes balance themselves out, and the mutual vibes are heard when playing The Boombachs’ catalogue. The trumpet player in the group, MR Wheat, is an animal as well.
