Fast and Furious 7 grossed $143.6 million this weekend, shattering any previous records set by the film franchise. This is the biggest opening weekend and FAF film has ever seen. It also landed at the no. 9 spot among the top 10 openings in history, Variety reports.
This was actor Paul Walker’s last role before his sudden death in 2013 after being in a car crash, which piqued many of the Fast and Furious fans.
“This is a bittersweet installment in the franchise,” said Phil Contrino, vice president and chief analyst at BoxOffice.com. “[Walker’s] passing made this movie more intriguing for people who hadn’t seen some of the installments. It raised awareness and its success is a tribute to him.”
Coming in at no. 2 was Rihanna’s animated debut in DreamWork’s Home, raking in another $27.4 million. Get Hard starring Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell landed in the third spot grossing $12.9 million.

It’s been a few blue moons since we’ve seen the hot shot known as Shaggy. And that’s not big shock. I mean, if you walked into the game, and hit a win streak where over the next few years, you killed the radio, created careers, crafted classic songs and had everything you touched turn into pure platinum, you’d surprise no one by bouncing off into the sunset and exiting on top.
Fortunately for his fans, Mr. Boombastic doesn’t believe in too much of a good thing. The Game does not believe in people talking reckless on his Instagram page and apparently not on his peers’ pages either. Drake acknowledged on his Instagram that he lost a bet and had to turn over some money to The Game over Kentucky losing to Wisconsin. A fan decided to comment calling Drake a fag, and The Game replied saying:
“How you callin somebody a fag you don’t even know??? Everybody tough on this app but in real life you’ll get yo f*ckin teeth knocked in.”
People have to stop keyboard thuggin’, plus you know The Game is about that life. LOL.

As the DMV representative continues to build his musical catalog, he also has his eyes set on making moves in the film world. Wale spoke with Power 105’s Angie Martinez about his film ambitions.
“Who wouldn’t want to see another Belly kind of movie? It wasn’t ‘critically acclaimed,’ but for us it was great,” said Wale. “I just feel like there’s a void that could be filled in that arena. I don’t necessarily know if it’s going to be me, but I sure as hell want to help usher in a youth movement in Black Hollywood. We can’t keep putting cornrows on Shemar Moore.”
Wale expressed his interest in appearing in the hit African-American led shows Power and Empire. He also discussed his desire to support up-and-coming actors and filmmakers.
“Where’s the new young Mekhi Phifer? Where’s the new young Denzel [Washington]? Where’s the new young Halle [Berry]?” asked Wale. “It’s gonna take the right clique, the right people. And I want to be able to be part of that.”

(AllHipHop News) Fast & Furious is one of the most profitable movie franchises in cinema history. The latest installment, Furious 7, just brought in an estimated $384 million worldwide gross over the weekend. Many actors would jump at the chance to be part of such a money-making project, but it turns out Ja Rule missed the opportunity to star in the successful sequels.
John Singleton, director of 2 Fast 2 Furious, revealed Ja chose not to return for the second part of the series. The “Holla Holla” rapper appeared in the original The Fast and the Furious, but after he refused $500,000 for the sequel, Ludacris was added to the cast.
Singleton told Grantland:
Ja got too big for himself. He turned it down. He turned down a half a million dollars… He got 15 grand to be in the first movie. He was really big at that time. I guess Murder Inc. was throwing out hits and were making money hand over foot. He was acting like he was too big to be in the sequel. He wouldn’t return calls. I went to the studio to go see him — that’s just my mantra, I deal with a lot of music people. He was kinda playing me to the side and I was like, “What? What is this s**t?”
The Oscar nominated director of Boyz n the Hood says Ja’s decision not to do 2 Fast changed Luda’s life. The Atlanta emcee went on to star in other films including Crash, Hustle & Flow, and several other Fast & Furious movies. Singleton did make it clear he and Ja are on good terms now.
Years later I saw Ja Rule at the Source Awards and we joked about it. I took him under my arm and said, ‘Man, when I call you, you listen. I ain’t calling you for no bulls**t.’ He said, ‘Yeah, man, I’m sorry about that.’ He apologized. I love Ja. I still think Ja has a lot of personality and can come back in a different way.

(AllHipHop News) Timbaland created quite a stir when he told a crowd at the SXSW Festival that deceased singer Aaliyah spoke to him in a dream and said his new protégé Tink is “the one.” Tink recently spoke with the Sway In The Morning crew about Tim’s statement.
“I had heard him tell me that before, so it wasn’t a big shock like it was to the world,” said Tink. “To be clear, Tim never said, ‘She’s the next Aaliyah.’ There will never be another Aaliyah.”
The Chicago rapper/singer goes on to add she did not feel pressure from Timbaland’s comment. She took it as confirmation. Tink also discussed working with another frequent Timbo collaborator.
“Get that album Think Tink,” she stated. “Missy’s on the album.”

(AllHipHop News) Has the artist exodus from Spotify begun? According to Watch Loud, Jay Z’s classic debut album Reasonable Doubt is no longer available on the service, but his entire discography can be streamed on the new Tidal platform.
Jay explained that one of the reasons he and numerous other musicians joined together for Tidal was because other streaming services had an unbalanced profit-sharing system with the artists. He spoke about the payout structure during a Q&A at NYU.
“You guys may have seen some of the stats like, Aloe Blacc had a song that was streamed 168 million times and he got paid $4,000,” said Jay. “For us, it’s not us standing here saying we’re poor musicians. If you provide a service, you should be compensated for it. And not just artists — just think about the writers and the producers.”
Taylor Swift pulled all her music from Spotify in 2014. The country/pop superstar’s catalog is included on Tidal. The artist owned company is also separating itself from other streaming services by providing exclusive content such as new songs by Rihanna and Beyoncé.
Tidal users can also stream exclusive videos from The White Stripes and Madonna. Jeymes Samuel’s Black western They Die By Dawn starring Michael K. Williams, Rosario Dawson, and Erykah Badu is only available on the platform as well.
