New York City’s Hip-Hop scene has undergone a transformation of sorts in recent years. With new artists pulling musical inspiration from other regions. Many of these newcomers completely abandon their NYC roots for the southern aesthetic. With that said, Bronx native Swave HMG, leader of the Tally Global collective, releases his full length project titled “Legendary”. The album finds the upstart mixing a unique brand of golden era NY aesthetics with a new school sensibility. The 14 track project, with majority of the production handled by Dizzybanko, features standout songs such as “Its Whateva” and “Wrong Ni**a”, which have already been gaining heavy traction on major NYC radio. Having been stamped and co-signed by some of rap’s elite, Swave HMG is sure to be a fixture on your music playlist.

LA Reid is the man over there at Epic Records. For some reason, I thought he was still over at LaFace Records. Silly me. Anyway, apparently LA is the one to point the finger at if you wanna know why Shmurda is still in jail, slowly losing his career one day at a time. I don’t know who the rapper is, but there is a rapper somewhere calling LA out and saying he will body the music mogul for not posting the money that will free Shmurda. I don’t know where this video is, but it exists!

Leonard Nimoy, who gained the affections of millions as Mr. Spock, has died at the age of 83.
The actor played the stoic alien character for years, helping propel Star Trek into a television, film and cult classic franchise.
Friday, Nimoy succumbed to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from years of smoking.
Nimoy’s influence was evident in pop cuture, but in Hip-Hop, rapper/singer/producers Pharrell adopted the famous Vulcan hand sign for his Star Trak recording label with The Neptunes.

Today a new video surfaced of Snoop and Pharrell in the studio vibing out and recording. The two are in the midst of promo for the BUSH project they have been collaborating on for some time and the critics thus far are entertained to say the least. With the two hitting the stage in LA for the Levi’s Grammy event at the Palladium, the momentum for this project seems to be at an all time high and building via each video that Snoop unveils via Instagram…
If anyone can appeal to the ladies, it’s Trey Songz. That’s why he has been tapped to be the face of SX Liquors, a spirits company that wants to appeal to the women with an assortment of rum, vodka and tequila that’s bottled up in a curvy bottle. Their tequila comes as SX cafedoble and SX Cha Cha Cha, vodka is deemed SX negro and SX blanco and rum is available as SX Samba and SX Mojito.
“We needed to find the best person on the planet that could help us market, not only from a collaboration of ideas, but also the ability to take it to the people and when we were introduced to Trey Songz and his amazing following, especially for females, it was just the perfect fit,” David Knight, SX Liquors CEO, said at a New York press conference.
The “Slow Motion” singer said that the idea of being the face of the brand was brought to him by his management and that the sensual packaging caught his eye.
“At first, I was very interested in the bottle, the bottle is unlike anything I’ve ever seen and if you really pay close attention, it’s like a lady’s legs crossed, which, to me, represents sexy but classy at the same time.”
Trigga also spotlighted the new liquor in his “Slow Motion” video and says that will be keeping it in tow wherever he goes.
“We will not fail, you will see SX everywhere I go,” said the VA crooner. “It will be used as a tool… If you want Trey Songz, you got to have SX too as far as promotions go, as far as shows go, as far as clubs go, as far as anything we do. We will need commitments from the parties that will be wanting commitments from us. I look forward to seeing SX in your homes, SX right on your bar and I want you to request it at the clubs.”
50 Cent is back in the studio with his mentor, Eminem. Their latest creation is a track that will appear on 50’s upcoming Street King Immortal album called “Champions.”
The G-Unit general sat down with MTV and detailed how the song came together and what listeners can expect.
“We wrote the song in Detroit,” said the Queens rep. “I did go out there, and we recorded in his studios, his comfort zone. Em is a lab rat, I don’t know if you know this. You don’t see him unless he’s scheduled to be somewhere. Other than that, he’s probably writing something new now…It’s a really cool process. It’s usually more fun than it feels like work. It sounds like one of those hit records that you’ve heard from Eminem in the past, with an R&B singer in the chorus.”
Watch Fif talk more about the song and he and Em’s relationship below.
Fans may finally get the Missy Elliott comeback that they’ve been waiting for.
After her Super Bowl XLIX halftime performance with Katy Perry, her decade-old hits like “Lose Control” and “Work It” popped into the iTunes top 10 and almost broke Spotify. She then hopped on the remix of Diplo and Skrillex’s Kiesza-assisted track “Take Ü There” and was spotted in the studio with her longtime partner Timbaland. Now, a pic of the “Supa Dupa Fly” rapper/producer and Pharrell Williams in the studio has been floating around.

There’s no word of what or whose music they have been working on, but we can only hope that it’s Missy’s.
Turns out that Taraji P. Henson’s Empire character Cookie isn’t the only one inspired some of the finest in hip-hop. The show’s creator Danny Strong has revealed that Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard, is based off of Jay Z.
During a visit to Sway in the Morning, Strong and Sway addressed the negative feedback the show has gotten for the stereotypical aspects of some of the characters’ story lines, like Lucious being a drug dealer-turned-music mogul.
“I’ve heard that, but there’s certainly some truth in that,” Strong said. “The Jay Z story, which very much inspired Lucious Lyon, certain elements of Lucious Lyon, was that story.” He continued “So for me, I don’t think in terms of ‘Okay we have to be careful of certain things because of certain negative stereotypes’. I view it as the entire cast is African-American [so] we’re gonna have all different types of characters and we’re gonna tell good stories. We’re not gonna sit here and play defense or think that our show is a representation as Black culture in its entirety. It’s not; it’s just this story.”

Apparently, MTV’s decade-old show Pimp My Ride was a phony.
During a “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, contestants Jake Glazier from Season 4 and Seth Martino and Justin Dearinger from Season 6 discussed their experience on the show. The Huffington Post then caught up with them and they further exposed what went on behind the scenes.
Some of the props that were used to “pimp” these rides were immediately removed after filming. Dearinger said that the “pop-up” champagne addition and a “drive-in theater” that was installed in his car were removed because producers did not want to promote drinking and driving with the champagne and the drive-in theater wasn’t safe for driving on the street. Martino said that a robotic arm that was added on to his car was “controlled by commands that were entered into a laptop by the spiky haired guy off screen” and that in actuality it “was just a robotic arm with a bunch of wires hanging out of it.”
Martino said that the televisions in the headrests and LED lights in his car seats stop working after the show. The cotton candy machine was installed in his trunk without leaving enough room for the dome top to keep the cotton candy “from flying all over the place.”
After the cars would start breaking down, show participants would call West Coast Customs and Mad Mike would try to help as best as he could.
“The people who had cars that appeared on the show would call me, and I would leave my desk, run to meet up with the flatbed tow truck and go help them,” Mike said.
Martino said that all the luxuries added to his car made it hard to drive home and contrary to how it seemed on the show, much was not done to the engine.
“There wasn’t much done under the hood in regards to the actual mechanics of the vehicle,” Martino said. “For the most part, it needed a lot of work done to make it a functioning regular driver, which they did not do.” He continued, ” Martino said he had a hard time even driving the car home. “They added a lot of extra weight but didn’t adjust the suspension to compensate so I felt like I was in a boat, and every time I hit a bump the car would bottom out and the tires would scrape inside the wheel well.”
Martino’s car only lasted a month and then he had to save up money to invest in an engine. Glazier sold his car after a month for $18,000 to MTX, whose sound system was in the car.
Former executive producer Larry Hochberg said that certain additions were removed for “safety reasons.” He recalled when 24-inch spinners were taken off a 1977 Cutlass and replaced with 20-inch rims for daily driving.
The homes in which Xzibit would arrive to to “surprise” the contests were not actually their homes. They were rented by MTV. The contestants were also scared into having an enthused reaction when they saw their car after its make over.
“I remember this very clearly, Big Dane, very big dude, he like puts his arm around my shoulder, kind of walks me around the shop for like 10 minutes and he’s like, ‘Listen, we put a lot of work into this … we expect you to be a little more f###### enthusiastic,'” Glazier remembered.
Hochberg said that it’s unfair to say that not enough work was put into the mechanics of the cars.
“Some of the cars were so old and rusted that they would have mechanical issues no matter how much work you put into them [and] the production team and the car shops worked their butts off to get parts for these cars.”

Pre-Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City probably conjured up images of boredom for most people. While this may not be true at all, a direct product of my own experiences with terribly long roadtrips, the Oklahoma City Hip Hop scene is barely visible. 832 is working to change all that. Brothers Nawledge 405 and Solomis form the duo and are already making major headway in the underground scene. Their name comes from the address of the Oklahoma City home they grew up in that was unfortunately burned down.
Most artists that attempt to gain attention do so by copying whatever the flavor of the month is. 832 pride themselves on a wholly original approach to Hip Hop, blending spoken word and variegated rhyme schemes. At once, they are like a mixture of Flatbush Zombies, Tech N9ne, and the more experimental version of Outkast. Most rappers pay their bills with flashy talk of materialism and decadence, but 832 take a refreshing, realistic approach to craft, each with their own unique and experimental flows. In 2013, the duo won the 6th Annual Street Music Award for Best Duo or Group. Capitalizing on their increasing hype, the duo have recently released a full-length album, The RAP-ture, showcasing all of their myriad styles.
The RAP-ture opens with two lyrical tracks (“The Prayer” and “Under The Ground”) that perfectly encapsulate who the duo is. 832 specialize on deafening bars complete with vocal mutations. The formula works the best when the duo is operating on high-wattage beats that compliment their onslaught, such as the single “Burn.” When 832 turn up, they are like an OKC version of M.O.P., as evidenced on the romping “Ragtime.” The lyrics are marked by a special adherence to paradigm shifting, as if 832 are trying to reverse decades of stale Hip Hop-isms with their real talk. On “Pyscho Woman,” the normal ode to strippers is benched for a interesting look at the realistic interplay between men and women. While the music isn’t for everyone, it is refreshing to know that some artists are still intent on breaking away from the common mold not only in the music but the lyrics themselves.
You can stream The RAP-ture below, and if you are feeling 832, make sure to track their movements on the interwebs.

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta-based rapper Alley Boy was recently caught on camera being attacked. The video shows men confronting Alley before he runs from the scene. The Co-CEO of Duct Tape Entertainment addressed the incident via several posts on his Instagram page.
Alley Boy wrote:

There was speculation the physical encounter was connected to Alley Boy’s longstanding feud with New York rap group G4 Boyz, but the duo’s certified Twitter account did not confirm nor deny involvement in the situation.
The G4 Boyz may not have been directly involved in the attack, but it appears Alley Boy now has issues with Trill Entertainment’s Lil Trill. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native posted a picture to his own Instagram page which includes alleged comments made by Alley.
“Y’all mad cause Phat got his p***y ass blast,” the comment reads. “I’ma catch you around Atlanta, lil p***y.”
Lil Phat is the 19-year-old Baton Rouge-born rapper that was gunned down in the parking lot of an Atlanta area hospital in 2012. His girlfriend was at the medical facility giving birth to their second child at the time he was killed.

(AllHipHop News) It seems no one warned Kid Rock about the Bey Hive. The veteran rocker made some comments about Beyoncé in Rolling Stone magazine, and the “Drunk In Love” singer’s fans took to Instagram to endlessly bash Rock.
“Beyoncé, to me, doesn’t have a f**king ‘Purple Rain,’ but she’s the biggest thing on Earth. How can you be that big without at least one ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ or ‘Old Time Rock and Roll’?” asked Rock. “People are like, ‘Beyoncé’s hot. Got a nice f**king ass.’ I’m like, ‘Cool, I like skinny white chicks with b#######.’ Doesn’t really f**king do much for me.”
Those statements led to Beyoncé’s followers flooding Kid Rock’s Instagram page. Almost every recent picture on the “Cowboy” performer’s IG now includes thousands of comments featuring the Bey Hive’s signature bee emoji and critical replies.

(AllHipHop News) Jas Prince is still waiting to find out if and when he will be receiving payments from Cash Money Records for his role in Drake’s success. Prince filed a lawsuit against the label in 2012, and he recently presented more legal documents requesting Cash Money show exactly how much they made off of the Young Money artist.
TMZ caught up with Prince and asked him about his situation with CMB and its founder Bryan “Birdman” Williams. The son of Rap-A-Lot Records’ J. Prince let it be known that his father’s “courtesy call” was the only talking that is left to be done.
“No more calls. We do the talking one time,” said Prince.
Jas does admit he handed the issue over to his lawyers, and he is waiting for it to play out through the legal system.
“The lawyers are dealing with it,” explained Prince. “It takes time when you’re dealing with lawsuits, so I’m trying to be patient before we get some more courtesy calls.”
When reminded about the fact former Cash Money artist Turk has also been attempting to get payments from Cash Money for a long time, Jas replied, “But Turk is not a Prince.”

(AllHipHop News) Even with its detractors, Empire continues to make a major mark on the television landscape. The ratings for this week’s episode crowned the series the top rated broadcast drama in five years.
Entertainment Weekly reports Wednesday’s “The Lyon’s Roar” pulled in 13.8 million viewers and a 5.3 rating among adults 18-49. That rating is the highest in that demo for a broadcast network drama since Grey’s Anatomy in 2010. Every episode of Empire has also been able to draw in a larger audience than the previous one.
The Fox program is extending its reach beyond just television next month when the Empire soundtrack hits stores. The compilation features contributions from cast members as well as Mary J. Blige, Juicy J, Charles Hamilton, Jennifer Hudson, Rita Ora, Courtney Love, and Estelle.
(AllHipHop News) Iggy Azalea once again rubbed some Hip Hop followers the wrong way when she expressed people in the culture do not give her the respect she is due. Azalea called out New York radio station Hot 97 in particular.
“It’s frustrating for me with, because I’ll have personal relationships with them outside of the media,” said Iggy. “I find it particularly, personally offensive when they often times take on the general opinion of others or the viewership to try to get clicks.”
Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg responded to Iggy’s comments during a segment of “The Realness.” The Ebro In The Morning co-host started off by saying he has never dissed Iggy. He then suggested the “Fancy” performer’s issue with the station stem from an interview Hot did with her rival Azealia Banks.
“Did we give another artist a platform to express her feelings about Iggy Azalea? Yes, we did. Did we agree with and understand some of the things that artist said? Of course,” Rosenberg replied. “Instead of Iggy talking to me about that. She DM’d me upset, and then instantly unfollowed me [on Twitter]. That is not how you handle a dialogue.”
According to Rosenberg, the conversations about Iggy on Hot 97 were to help her gain credibility in Hip Hop and maintain longevity. He also called the Australia native talented but believes Iggy’s ego may be playing a part in the riff.
“Honestly, Iggy has let her ego get in the way of having a dialogue,” added Rosenberg. “You should not go to some random ass pop station – no disrespect – and talk about your relationship in Hip Hop.”
Watch Peter Rosenberg’s “The Realness” below.
