Legendary Hip-Hop Label Penalty Relaunches, Seeks Artists, Producers and Musicians

(AllHipHop News) Legendary Hip-Hop label Penalty Records will be re-launched under a new multi-year deal with Sony RED.

Penalty, which was founded in 1994, was originally home to artists like Noreaga and CNN, The Beatnuts, Crooked Lettaz (Kamikaze and David Banner), Lord Finesse and others.

Like the label’s original roster, CEO Neil Levine said that Penalty Entertainment is looking for producers, and musicians who have staying power.

“We’re focused on artist development, talented new producers and musicians who will be here many years down the road,” Penalty CEO Neil Levine told AllHipHop.com in a statement today (January 21). “We want the superstars of tomorrow, today.”

Levine crafted a deal with Sony RED that will allow him to operate Penalty Entertainment as independent label, with the backing, distribution and muscle of a major.

“I have a lot of respect for what RED has accomplished with their marketing divisions and I believe that Sony is the right partner on a global level,” Levine explained. “RED is a best in class company and I am really honored to be a part of that legacy.”

According to Sony RED CEO Bob Morelli, the new deal with Penalty Entertainment is part of a plan to discover the best Hip-Hop and rap music that Sony RED can distribute and market.

Sony RED already handles labels like Cinematic, Ncredible, Louder Than Life, Infamous, Soul Temple and others.

“Neil Levine’s Penalty 2.0 joins RED’s fast growing Rap and Hip-Hop label groups with a new roster that showcases the quality and consistency of the original,” Morelli stated. “There is no doubt about Penalty’s plans to recapture the original excitement and Neil’s ability to deliver it. RED’s continued mission to find the best in Rap and Hip-Hop has been fulfilled with the addition of Penalty Entertainment and we are excited to begin the next chapter from this storied label.”

Penalty Entertainment has already signed a deal with Fort Lauderdale rapper, Hi-Rez and EMC featuring Masta Ace, Punchline, Wordsworth and Strick.

According to Neil Levine, Penalty Entertainment, which helped launch the production careers of Swizz Beats and The Neptunes, is seeking producers, songwriters, rappers and musicians.

“We want to help develop them for successful careers that will produce generations of Hip-Hop fans,” Levine said about partnering with Sony RED.

“I want to be transparent and create real partnerships with my artists that foster growth as well as creating the new breed of executives,” Levine continued. “It’s all about respect, having fun and doing really good business together.”

OPINION: How Martin’s Dream Became A Nightmare…

Chances are some people may highly agree with this post and some may disagree or be slightly offended. It would be wise to read the entire post before you judge.

Martin Luther King Jr. is arguably considered the most famous African- American man in United States history. His August 28, 1963 “I Have A Dream” speech is one of the most famous speeches in American history. Many people have different interpretations of what his “dream” was. I guess at the end of the day only he would know, because after all it’s his dream, right? I have massive respect for this man although I don’t fully agree with his philosophy. The questions I’d like for us all to ask ourselves is if Martin Luther King Jr. were brought back to life today would he be pleased with what the black community has amounted to since his death? Is this what he wanted? Would he consider this a dream come true? Do you think he would condone the behavior of the black masses today in 2013? Well allow me to give my personal thoughts in response to these questions.

Before I continue I would like to give some detailed definitions to some important words.

Integrate – 1. To form, coordinate, or blend into a functioning or UNIFIED WHOLE.
2. to unite with something else.
3.To open to people of all races or ethnic groups without restriction.

Unity – 1. The state or quality of being one; singleness.
2. The state or quality of being in accord; harmony.
3. The combination or arrangement of parts into a whole; unification.

Conform – 1. Comply with rules, standards, or laws.
2. Behave according to socially acceptable conventions or standards: “the pressure to conform”.
3. To be obedient or compliant.

In my personal opinion, Black Americans never integrated and have never been fully accepted by White America.
Black Americans have conformed; we agreed to be compliant to the rules White America had set for us.

After the desegregation laws were passed, some were holding hands singing “Oh Happy Days” racism over!!! What we fail to realize is that America is run by owners who never “integrated” their wealth, power, or control. The top 1% of this country are the descendants of the owners who benefited from murder and enslavement of Native Americans and Africans.

In 2013, the owners of 99.9 percent of everything in this country are WHITE. Why is ownership significant to integration? Because when you own s### you get to make the RULES, you get to set the prices, and you have the POWER. Therefore one who does not own anything cannot set rules, cannot set prices, and has no power.

Which leads to my next point, the education system was never integrated. Black & Whites went to school to learn white Eurocentric history/culture. African/black studies are not required nor truly asserted into the curriculum. Black and White students do not learn much of anything positive about African/black culture. The result of this is maintenance of racism due to ignorance.

Because of that naturally there is a lack of respect for blacks which builds an inferiority complex in blacks and a superiority complex in whites. . Wait, there is one month given to blacks. “Black History Month” which is “Black History” but American history is White history, when they are the SAME history that happened in this country. Furthermore I don’t want you to lose the point.

Why isn’t the curriculum integrated? Because blacks don’t make the rules and White America hasn’t decided to yet. Why don’t blacks make the rules? Because blacks don’t own s###. Why don’t blacks own s###? Well besides the fact that since slavery there have been systematic rules /laws put in place to keep blacks from owning s###, blacks conformed during desegregation, gave up on black businesses. (With the Exception of the Black Panthers Party) The owners of this country never integrated the wealth so they’ll continue to make the rules and set the laws we OBEY, even if it’s not in our favor.

If the country truly Wanted to UNITE it would have integrated the wealth economically as well as with the education system. Black Men and Women are being incarcerated at alarming rates and not much is being done about it from “America”, why is that? Because the prison system is a business and blacks don’t own any parts of it. White owners are profiting off imprisonment. The New Jim Crow Laws. Pick up a book, wake up, get active, and organize. Slavery never ended it just changed forms.

America has never “United”; to do that would mean equal opportunities, benefits, and representation of all people. America never truly integrated either. If America were truly integrated it would erase white privilege, but white supremacy just can’t have that.

Maybe it’s called “A Dream” because you have to be asleep to believe it?
You know what? Let me put this drink down before I say something I regret.

HAPPY MLK DAY! (Build Your Legacy)

Happy MLK Day, my warriors of light and creatures of purposeful grind! Welcome to the day that is set aside to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the day that is dedicated to service! Today’s Daily Word is dedicated to building your legacy! A legacy is something that is received from someone who has died! The dictionary says it can be property or money but we all know that in most cases those leave very little value! When we speak of legacy, we speak of what has been done in a lifetime that lives on past that person’s death! When you think of Martin Luther King and his dream of equality and the mark he left in the world, or when you think of Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Malcolm X, and as of recent, Nelson Mandela… These are all souls who were selfless and lived a life of service and vowed to leave the world better than how they find it! When you think about your life…. What legacy will you leave? When it is all said and done, how will you be remembered? Are you going to continue to only think about yourself and live a life that will be over after the obituary? Or are you going to maximize your God-given talents to leave a mark in the world that will never be forgotten? I don’t care where you come from, how you started or what circumstance was forced upon you… What will matter in the end is how your lived and what good you leave! As Buddtha once said “Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it.” Build Your Legacy and Live your life to the fullest!!

Kanye West Talks Jay Z Realizing Tupac’s Dream, Dame Dash Saving His Life + More

(AllHipHop News) When Alexander McQueen isn’t getting nominated for Oscar’s he’s interviewing the most polarizing Hip Hop artist of the past 15 years. The Golden Globe winning director interviewed Kanye West about his history of Grammy snubs, an interesting story of how Dame Dash saved his life and more.

When asked during his Interview magazine interview how he dealt with the negative criticism “mentally, physically, spiritually” following his incident with Taylor Swift at the 2009 Video Music Awards, Kanye West answered quite matter-of-factly:

It’s funny that you would say “mentally, physically, spiritually” because my answer before you even said that was going to be “god, sex, and alcohol.”

In the interview, Kanye says openly compares himself to innovators such as Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and others to give people a better context of his potential.  West also remarked that one of the people he as often been compared to, Tupac, had a dream that has since manifested in the form of one of Tupac’s rivals:

You know, some different friends of mine have been showing me these interviews that Tupac did and how they’re very simple and to the point. I watched them, and one of the things that Tupac kept saying is that he wanted thugs to be recognized. Now Jay-Z is a multi-hundred-millionaire who came from the streets, so Tupac’s mission, in a way, has been realized. But my mission is very different from Tupac’s—and I’m not Tupac.

Kanye West is now a multiplatinum superstar who “moved his family out the country so you can’t see where I stay”. But according to West himself, he hated his first trip to France which was orchestrated by his former labelhead and the man who signed him to Roc-a-Fella, Dame Dash. Dame did more than organize the trip for Kanye and a few other Roc-A-Fella artists to go to London, especially for Kanye:

But at the time, there was a rapper out of Chicago who wanted me to show up at some event of his, and he was trying to threaten me in some way physically if I didn’t show up because we had done a record together. And Dame Dash had to man-up on the situation and apply a bit of gangster to have them fall back, just for me to be able to get on that first flight to London.

WTF News: Mother Performs ‘Exorcism’ on Kids by Stabbing Them to Death

This is yet another case of scumbags who shouldn’t have procreated. A Maryland mother and another woman were charged with murder after authorities found the women had stabbed the mother’s children to death while trying to perform an exorcism.

Via IBTimes:

Multiple sources are reporting that the 28-year-old mother, Zakieya Latrice Avery, killed her 1-year-old son, Norell Harris, and his 2-year-old sister Zyana Harris.

Two other children, the siblings of the two toddlers who were killed, were seriously injured during the horrific event and were hospitalized with unspecified injuries, according to KCTV 5. Avery and Monifa Denise Sanford, 21, were taken into custody Friday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to the Montgomery County Police.

“Investigators have learned that the two defendants believed that they were performing an exorcism,” police said, according to CNN. “The investigation into this motive and other aspects of the crime continue at this point.”

Police received a 911 call Friday about suspicious activity going on at the townhouse of Zakieya Latrice Avery in Germantown, Maryland. A witness said a vehicle outside the residence was left with its door open and there was a knife lying outside of it, with blood on the ground nearby. When police arrived on the scene, they grabbed the keys from the car, unlocked the townhouse and made their way inside.

That’s when they discovered the bodies of the four children, the two youngest of who were dead. Police described it as a “very bloody scene.”

The two women fled the home through a rear door as police entered, but were intercepted and taken into custody. Sanford also had injuries, according to reports, and Avery was the only one who was unscathed. Authorities confirmed that the women thought they were helping the children escape evil.

“This was all about what was in their minds,” Capt. Marcus Jones, commander of the county’s major crimes unit, told reporters. “They felt like there was something bad going on with the children, and they were trying to release it.”

Detectives discovered two knives – one paring knife and another, slightly larger one – they believe were used in the attacks. According to The Washington Post, Avery had received mental-health counseling in the past, and had moved around a lot in recent years, a minister whose church she attended told the paper. Avery reportedly believed in God and feared Satan, and even took to social media to express her fears.

“People are being deceived left and right every day and don’t care to realize it,” Avery wrote on her Facebook page in Nov. 2011, according to The Washington Post. “They think it’s safe and everything’s a game when this world is owned by satan himself who wants to dumb us down to think there’s no consequences for what we do.”

It’s unclear how Avery and Sanford met, but police say Sanford was living at Avery’s home at the time, although she was not part of the family.

I’m willing to bet they met online, where the crazies seem to find each other. I hope they rot in hell, no pun intended.
