Problem brings out T.I., Game, Tyga. Is He The Next King of L.A.?

Compton rapper Problem brought his Separation Tour back home to the city of Angels on December 4 and made a huge statement on his status and where his career is heading. “Diamond Lane n*ggas is a different caliber than a lot of these n*ggas out here and we are going to set that sh*t straight tonight,” proclaimed Problem after he brought out West Coast legend Too $hort, the first of many surprise guests. With a wall to wall capacity at The El Rey Theater, a young and diverse crowd with people coming in as far as Bakersfield, “turned up” with excitement that went against the longstanding notion about Southern California crowds being “too chill” at events. Hosted by DJ Amen and Abby De La Rosa (she’s a cutie by the way) of Young California, The Separation Tour (named after Problem’s latest mixtape hosted by DJ Drama) started off with Bay Area veteran Clyde Carson who capped off his set with his most popular cut, “Slow Down,” which still gets radio play even after 2 years.

The night just didn’t belong to Problem. Young South Central L.A. crooner Tee Flii is a name that you need to remember because this kid is going to make waves in the future. Performing his popular DJ Mustard produced tracks from his AnnieRUO’Tay project and, Tee Flii had all of the young ladies in the palms of his hands, singing word for word, and screaming at the top of their lungs. Nipsey Hussle joined the youngster on stage as the two performed some of their recent collaborations. After Tee Flii’s performance, a young girl next to me told me that she was already starting to lose her voice and she didn’t know how she was going to be able to perform at work the next morning. Her voice seemed to have held up through the night because I continued to hear those ear-piercing screams – especially when Problem took the stage.

Once considered just a mixtape rapper from Compton, Problem has really grown in to his own and is utilizing the potential that’s always been there. I know because I was given his original demo several years back when he was just a producer trying to make beats and I’ve seen the ups and downs of his career. After his single deal with Univeral Republic for 2008’s “Toe Up” was complete and the single didn’t take off as hoped, Problem went back to the drawing board and re-vamped his team and his sound over a period of time. The results have been outstanding because when he took the stage at the El Rey Theater that night, you could feel that a statement was going to be made with this show. His manager Pun had even given me a heads up earlier to be ready for some surprises.

After opening with some tracks from The Separation, Problem’s first surprise was Oakland’s own Too $hort, the Godfather of all Pimps on the Mic – but that was just the beginning. R & B singer Tank joined in on the action when Problem brought a pretty young lady from the crowd on to the stage and surprised her with personal serenades. At this point another young female nearby began shouting out “oral” favors to Problem whenever he came near our section of the stage. Others joined in, although not as explicit. Girls throwing themselves at you is a sign that you are having a hell of a performance.

Surprise 3 and 4, turned out to be The Game and Tyga, as the YMCMB labelmates came out to rock the crowd and voice their support for their Compton brother. I figured that was going to be it for the surprises and I was kind of glad too because my camera started to let me know that it was going to sleep very soon from all of the footage and pictures from the night. Surely enough as my camera was telling me goodnight, Problem brings out the last huge surprise – none other than T.I. I should have known this was coming especially since Problem has been sharing pictures on social media about working with Tip, including a session not too long ago with Dr. Dre. Thankfully there were others around me kind enough to share their photos with me and of course other video clips taped (Internets to the rescue).

Overall it was an incredible night and I believe we’re seeing the new birthing of a King out here in Los Angeles. After all, there aren’t many that could pull off this kind of a feat. Problem has seen great success this year with his “Like Whaat” single and will be debuting a new one on 106 & Park this upcoming December 10. If he’s going to be the next King of L.A., he’s going to need another hit, so we will see how this new single does. If it does indeed take off as he hopes, watch out, because right now the dude is on fire.

I can’t forget Bad Lucc. The fellow Diamond Lane artist really did his thing that night too as part of the show. I see you Lucc.

Check out our exclusive coverage of the night. Shout out to Montze Rodriguez for coming through with the T.I. shots and @99point1percent for the video clip.

R. Kelly: A Pair of Flying Black Panties Inspired My New Album (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) R. Kelly draws inspiration from the most unconventional of places. He compared a woman to his jeep eight years before he sang “let me put my key in your ignition”. During his interview with Billboard’s The Juice, the veteran R&B crooner revealed what flying object inspired his new album Black Panties.

Speaking with Billboard’s Erika Ramirez, R. Kelly explained how one performance during the Love Letter tour left an indelible mark on his mind…and his wrist:

I’m on stage doing the Love Letter tour and I was singing “Seem Like You Ready”. Everytime Im singing “s panties start flying out of everywhere. Seriously. But this particular night, a pair of mediums came out of the sky and they were black and they landed on my wrist. Immediately I looked at that and looked up like “that’s a sign”. Yeah, the idea hit me right away.

Later in the interview he claims he is planning to “start putting out albums like Jordans” and is already six songs deep into an album he says is untitled. According to Kelly, the album will be a continuation of the Black Panties theme.

Necro: As A Security Guard I Once Pulled A Machete On A Customer (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) There are many different ways to prevent theft from stores that security guards employ. Some racially profile, other , but Brooklyn born MC Necro explained his innovative ways of theft protection at Cipha Sounds’ Take It Personal last month (Nov. 1st).

As a security guard at an unnamed store on Bleeker St and Broadway, Necro used to carry a “24-inch machete” on his hip and one day chased an unsuspecting customer out of the store under the suspicion of theft. UCB improvisers Abra Tabak, Brandon Gardner, Phil Jackson and Sean Diston turned this story into a hilarious sketch on the flaws of incorrectly profiling someone.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Migos And Chief Keef Set To War

JUST GREAT.

I don’t really understand what’s going on with these young rappers. Apparently, there is a quiet beef going on between Chief Keef and Migos. Now, Chief Keef basically put it out there to the world, accusing his Chi Town counterparts of sneak dissing. He did this on Twitter, of all places. “I Heard Migos sneak dissin No Talkin,” Keefie said. Welp….that’s all Migos needed to hear. “We’ll be in Chiraq next week pull up,” said Offset of Migos. Wisely, Offset deleted the tweet later. I’m thinking you really don’t want to pop off to the Chi. Nevertheless, these guys are so out of control that all you can really do is:

Hip-Hop Rumors: Trina Denounces French Montana And Pregnancy Rumors!

“Can I get a witness?”

I ain’t even know there were rumors around Trina these days. The French rumors have all but disintegrated. But, she’s talking on it anyway. She tells TMZ:

“He’s been a great inspiration to me since he came into my life as far as working, business, career,” she said. “He showed me some different things that honestly, I didn’t really get the last couple of years of my career.
“He’s a very positive person, he’s a great, fun person to be around, and that’s what I love about him. I guess when people see you with somebody, they automatically think that you’re together. If we were together, if we become together, I think you guys would know.”

Honestly, I don’t know what the point is. First, its almost common knowledge that something was going on with these two. But, if they both say it wasn’t, who are we to say it was? And secondly, Trina’s rep also said that she ain’t with child, which is something we never even thought to begin with.

ODB’s Estate Resolves Legal Issues, New Documentary Available Online

(AllHipHop News) After months of miscommunications and a failed screening, Raison Allah’s documentary on the life of his cousin Ol’ Dirty Bastard will finally see the light of day. The NuHo Film Festival and the Estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard have resolved their legal issues and released Dirty: Platinum Edition online.

The NuHo Film Festival planned to originally release Dirty: Platinum Edition at an AllHipHop-sponsored November 15th film screening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Due to a cease and desist order issued by ODB’s Estate, the film was prevented from being screened. The NuHo Film Festival apologized for the film not being screened:

The NuHo Film Festival apologizes to all the individuals who attended the November 15th red carpet screening, to our media partner AllHipHop.com who was not expecting the event to turn out the way it did, to the press that attended, but most importantly to all Wu-Tang and ODB fans who were expecting to enjoy the film on November 15th at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

In the weeks following the failed screening, The NuHo Film Festival pre-screened the documentary for ODB’s estate, which includes his widowed wife Icelene Jones. Today (December 7th), The NuHo Film Festival announces that it has reached an agreement with the ODB Estate and that the ODB documentary titled Dirty: Platinum Edition is now available to stream at www.NuHoFilmFest.com.

Hip-Hop Rumors: What OG And What Young Gun Are Collaborating?

I’m hearing a nice little rumor about two of the coolest talented Hip-Hop people, Immortal Technique and Ab Soul. Ten years ago this year, Immortal Technique dropped Revolutionary Vol. 2. Ab Soul is a part of one of the strongest crews in rap as well as a dope solo artist. Anyway, dude these guys are rumored to be working on some music together that will certainly give us something incredible. I don’t know for sure, but I am thinking it will be for Immortal Technique’s next project. Word on the street is that Technique is cooking up something fresh after taking some time off to let the Obama Love Fest run its course. I’m excited about this, because the messages that Ab Soul puts out there is like a lighter version of Technique if you really listen.

Will Ferrell: Kanye West Wouldn’t Stop Playing Music on Anchorman 2 Set

(AllHipHop News) The world may not fully understand Kanye West but there is one immutable truth we all can agree on: Kanye West wants to be heard. According to Will Ferrell, the loquacious MC’s desire to be heard was an enjoyable obstruction to the filming of Anchorman 2 as Kanye kept playing his music on the set.

During his interview for his cover story, Ferrell reveals that Kanye West and a still pregnant Kim Kardashian visited the set for Kanye’s acting role in the new movie. While on set, Kanye previewed songs from Yeezus for the crew, however did not know when to stop:

He was playing it through the sound department, on the speakers on set, at the park, as people were setting up for the next shot. Which was great. But then he didn’t understand when it had to be turned off, when it was time to actually film. He was like, ‘Hey man, what’s going on?’ We didn’t want Kanye to get upset, but at the same time, we kind of had to film.

Anchorman 2 director Adam McKay even acknowledged that Kanye asked him for advice on filmmaking. Kanye has a history of attempting to get into filmmaking with his 2012 limited-release Cruel Summer “7-screen experience” being his latest involvement in movies.

Drake is also confirmed to be in Anchorman 2 along with Kanye. Anchorman 2 is set to hit theaters on December 18th.

Epic Fail of the Day: Girl Gets Catfished Into Going to Selena Gomez’s House

Viana Janae Jones, 16, began chatting online with who she thought was Selena Gomez earlier this year but got a rude awakening when she discovered that she got catfished by her ex-boyfriend.
Jones began catting with “Gomez,” who reached out to her expressing admiration over her dance videos,  back in January. The imposter Gomez convinced Jones that she wanted her to become one of her backup dancers and even sent backstage passes in the mail.

After months of chatting on line, Jones was offered a choreography job and got an invite to visit Gomz’s Los Angeles home. This is where it all goes really left.

Radar Online reports that Jones and convinced her skeptical mom to meet the singer for a “girl’s” weekend.

“I didn’t want to tell my child ‘no,’ in the small chance that this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity might be real,” said the mother.

The duo spent hundreds of dollars to get from Fresno, California to Gomez’s mansion where they discovered they’d been duped.

Via Radar Online:

Viana’s dreams of meeting Gomez were crushed when she received an email just as they were pulling up to the home stating the entire meeting – and months-long friendship –was an elaborate hoax.

“The email said that I was pathetic for thinking I could be friends with Selena,” Viana recalled, admitting that her “jealous” ex-boyfriend – whom she refused to name — was behind the entire ordeal and sent the revealing email.

Despite being “crushed,” Viana decided to take a chance and rang Gomez’s intercom anyway and a young woman answered.

Viana thought it was Gomez, but ultimately it wasn’t.

“I tried to explain everything that happened without coming off as a crazy fan. She hung up before I could finish explaining, which made my stomach turn,” she said.

Seconds later, Gomez’s mother Mandy Teefey came out of the house to figure out what was going on.

“She was very sweet and sympathetic. We had brought Selena a birthday present, and we also brought gifts for her newborn sister.

“Though we were glad her mom accepted the gifts, we left humiliated and didn’t get to meet Selena,” said Viana.

A source close to Gomez confirmed to Radar that the unbelievable incident did indeed take place.

Jones says she learned her lesson but hasn’t given up hope of one day meeting the real Selena Gomez.

Question: Why are y’all still getting catfished, though?

Judge Rules “Big Pimpin” Lawsuit Against Jay Z Can Move Forward

(AllHipHop News) Jay Z and fellow defendants Timbaland, EMI, Warner Music, MTV, Paramount Pictures, and more seemed to be cleared in a copyright infringement lawsuit over the 2000 hit single “Big Pimpin’,” but a judge has ruled that the case filed by the family of Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdy in 2007 can move forward.

[ALSO READ: Jay Z Ranks His Own Catalogue From Best To Worst Albums]

It had appeared that the statute of limitations for a legal copyright claim to the song “Khosara Khosara” had expired. The new ruling now allows the case to continue because the licensing deal between EMI and the Egyptain company Sout El Phan ended in 2006.

Since “Big Pimpin'” was used on television, movies, and live performances after ’06, the court suggested Hamdy’s nephew Osama Ahmed Fahmy pursue further legal discovery to determine if Jay and other defendants infringed on the copyright of “Khosara Khosara” at that time.

U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder wrote:

The Court finds plaintiff’s argument persuasive, and concludes that plaintiff should be permitted to conduct discovery as to what defendants knew during the post-expiration period. Further discovery is appropriate because plaintiff need only show that defendants knew that they were infringing some copyright in Khosara Khosara in order to defeat laches; plaintiff need not show that defendants were aware that they were infringing plaintiff’s copyright.

Pharrell’s Interested In Producing Entire 50 Cent Album

(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent recently stated in an interview that he does not expect his next studio album to sell like his previous efforts. Maybe hooking up to record with hit maker Pharrell Williams could be the necessary additive to put 50 back at the top of the charts, and it appears Skateboard P is open to producing an entire LP with 5-0.

[ALSO READ: 50 Cent Doesn’t Expect “Street King Immortal” To Sell Like Past Albums]

In the outtakes of Complex‘s cover story, Pharrell is asked about a suggestion offered by Pusha T that he and the Queens emcee work on an entire project together. P responded:

I would love that. But, you know, he would have to see why that makes sense…for himself. That doesn’t mean it makes the ultimate sense, I mean you know, people could read this and be like, “What?! Ew, no. Don’t f### with Pharrell.” You know? I would love to make an album with 50 that felt like a film. ‘Cause he’s an actor. He’s an actor and a rapper and all these other things. I would wanna put all those talents together and try and make a cohesive body of work that was all about him. I’d just be Mario Puzo. I don’t have to be Corleone. I don’t have to be in it at all. I could just be the air in the room, which is just the storywriter or the backdrop. Cause he’s the storywriter.

Before that potential collaborative will ever take place Pharrell will be releasing his next solo album. The N.E.R.D. member revealed the follow-up to 2006’s In My Mind will be completely rap free.
