LudaDay Weekend is Back–Bigger than Ever!

(AllHipHopNews) Since 2005, LudaDay Weekend has been the tradition end-of-summer party in Atlanta, attracting supporters from all over the nation. This year, it’s the 8th go-round for the Annual LudaDay Weekend. And as usual, it’s going down, Labor Day weekend, Thursday, August 29th through Monday, September 2nd 2013.

While LudaDay Weekend is full of great parties and events, including a celebrity basketball game, this year it’s Team Luda vs. Team Usher. The weekend is also about giving back. LudaDay Weekend has executed several community initiatives including;  inviting hundreds of youth to a Braves baseball game at Turner Field,  a giveaway of 20 new cars to underprivileged families, donations to Mayor Kasim Reed’s Centers for Hope, scholarship donations to Morehouse College & Clark Atlanta University.

The 8th Annual LudaDay Weekend will be no exception. On Thursday, the event kicks off with a Ludacris Foundation High School Takeover at an Atlanta school, yet to be announced, as well as a block party on the campus of Georgia State University. And while there is lots of good done during LudaDay Weekend, it wouldn’t be complete without a few parties.

This year features a private Welcome to Atlanta dinner, a DJ/Media Appreciation Party, a party at the elite Prive’, and one at the beautiful Club Compound, not to mention the closing event; the private pool party, appropriately named, “Splash Waterfalls.”

The weekend is presented by The Ludacris Foundation, Hublot, Ebony Son Management, Soul Headphones, and DTP Records. For more information about the 8th Annual LudaDay Weekend, connect with Luda on Instagram @itsLudacris.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Diddy and J. Cole…BEEF!!?

The rumor mill is swirling with reports that Diddy and North Carolina rapper J. Cole got into some sort of fight at Diddy’s VMA after party. The altercation took place during a rooftop party at The Dream Hotel in New York City. A bunch of people there said that J. Cole and Diddy had a nasty verbal exchange, which soon turned into a shoving match. Of course, J. Cole was escorted out of the building. It’s New York. It’s Diddy. Neither J. Cole or his manager has said too much about the incident. But Diddy just hit up Twitter to address the speculation that he fought with J. Cole.

“I usually don’t address rumors but I got too much respect for my bro @JColeNC. We are friends The rumors are not true. We had a great party”

Good thing Diddy has grown up. He used to (and still does) roll with some real goons, like Wolf.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Irv Gambles Big $, Amber Rose vs Amber Rose!!

Irv Gotti The Gambler!

Irv Gotti may have lost some money on lawyers and stuff after the government came after him for money laundering a few years ago. Well we all know Irv spanked the government and beat the charges, but his career just hasn’t been the same since for whatever reason. So while we wait for Irv to jump all the way back into the music game, Irv is caking up, as a professonial gambler. Irv is gambling in some sort of big-time tournament. The guy was playing with like $250,000. It looks like he lost half of that, and then doubled up before he quit his game. Rich folk problems.

OH NO JHENE

Jhene Aiko was busted up in a car accident last night. The accident was bad enough that she was hospitalized and needed stitches, and had a chipped tooth AND a broken wrist. She was supposed to perform at LSU tomorrow but has canceled the gig. Hope you feel better. She’ll still be cute with a chipped tooth too.

AMBER ROSE VS HERSELF

Amber Rose went back to her hometown of Philly sometime last weekend, right before the VMA’s went down. Now Amber is a really cool lady who’s kind of down to earth. So when she comes back home it’s usually all love. But this time she got a little hate. She was rolling through the city when some fans rolled up and called her out – for looking too much like AMBER ROSE! That’s right! They thought the real Amber Rose was the fake Amber Rose. It didn’t get too nasty and I guess the real Amber just shrugged it off and kept it moving.

EXCLUSIVE: Afrika Bambaataa Addresses Zulu Nation's Previous Statements About Kool Herc

(AllHipHop News) Last week the Universal Zulu Nation’s Minister of Information, Quadeer “M.C. Spice” Shakur, issued a statement to the press titled “MISREPRESENTATION OF A CULTURE BY A FOREFATHER”.

The statement addressed what Shakur said was the inaccurate depiction of the true birth date of Hip Hop culture and specifically DJ Kool Herc’s role in Hip Hop’s founding.

“Herc is our brother, but when our family strays from us, we must first forgive them for mistakes, but let them know of their wrongdoings, and of course, welcome them back with open arms,” wrote Shakur. “Kool Herc, aka Clive Campbell DID NOT BIRTH HIP-HOP CULTURE 40 YEARS AGO ON AUGUST 11, 1973… truth is, Kool Herc appears to be working with outside forces to overstep and outshine what is taking place THIS November 12th: The 40th Anniversary of the Universal Zulu Nation.”

Zulu Nation founder and fellow Hip Hop forefather Afrika Bambaataa says he has spoken to Kool Herc to clear up the situation.

Bambaataa also issued his own statement to AllHipHop.com about the matter.

Read Afrika Bambaataa’s full statement below.

To anybody who thought they were causing friction, it’s not happening. Kool Herc is my brother. To the Hip-Hop communities worldwide, let’s focus on the positive things concerning Hip-Hop. We still need music programs for kids in our schools, after school program incentives, morning programs for our elders, healthcare for Hip-Hoppers and communities of disconnected people worldwide. We still don’t have our Hip-Hop museum. Let’s work to stop the many injustices in our communities. And our churches, masjids and temples need to open their doors back up to the communities and stop being scared of their communities.

More of our rappers, entertainers and stars need to stand against injustice that hurts all people wherever they are on the planet. What’s more important is a Million Man/Woman March against the killings by our own in our own communities, and working to end the racist prison system designed to incarcerate Black and Latino men and women at a higher rate and for longer terms. These are the issues that must be addressed, and that are more important than worrying about causing a “beef” between my brother Kool Herc and I. And I have been calling for a Hip-Hop Union for years. Let’s do that. Remember what Zulu stands for: “Peace, Unity, Love and Havin’ Fun.”

Rapper's Lyrics Used Against Him In Murder Trial Upheld By Nevada Supreme Court

(AllHipHop News) Rappers take heed. Anything you say in a song can, and will, be used against you in the court of law. After Virginia rapper Antwain “Twain Gotti” Steward lyrics led to his arrest in a double homicide case in July, rapper Deyundrea “Khali” Holmes’ conviction on first-degree robbery and murder in Nevada was upheld by the state’s Supreme Court.

Court News Service reports Holmes was found guilty of the charges after prosecutors claimed raps he wrote while waiting for extradition to Nevada were confessions to the crimes. Holmes, along with his accomplice, Max Reed, were accused of killing Kevin “Mo” Nelson after robbing the alleged drug dealer and record studio owner of jewelry in 2003.

“His assailant tore off Nelson’s shirt and chain necklace, pistol-whipped him, and then tried to drag Nelson from the parking lot into the studio without success. Frustrated, Nelson’s assailant removed his ski mask and said, ‘I’m going to shoot this f*cking guy,’ which he did. Nelson staggered, then fell and died,” stated the ruling. Nelson was found with his pockets “bunny-eared” or turned inside out.

Holmes penned a song called “Drug Deala” while incarcerated in California. Part of the writings included the following lyrics:

But now I’m uh big dog, my static is real large. Uh neighborhood superstar. Man I push uh hard line. My attitude s##### n*gga. You don’t want to test this. I catching slipping at the club and jack you for your necklace. F*ck parking lot pimping. Man I’m parking lot jacking, running through your pockets with uh ski mask on straight laughing.

Holmes defense team argued that the lyrics were just unoriginal and clichéd artistic expression and should not be used a factual evidence. His lawyers believed the lyrics also prejudiced the jury against the defendant. The Nevada Supreme Court upheld the conviction in a 2-1 decision stating that the rap lyrics were admissible evidence in the case.

“It is one thing to exclude defendant-authored fictional accounts, be they rap lyrics or some other form of artistic expression, when offered to show a propensity for violence,” wrote Chief Justice Kristina Pickering in the majority opinion. “It is quite another when the defendant-authored writing incorporates details of the crime charged.”
