(AllHipHop News) Baton Rouge, Louisiana based rapper Webbie took time to clarify his recent rumored banning from BET, his relationship with Rocsi and his disagreement with Terrence J on a recent airing on 106 & Park.
Webbie called into WGCI’s 107.5, and spoke to Tony Sculfield and The Morning Riot.
Webbie explained his stance on the episode, when fans were told by Terrence J that Webbie was banned from BET and that he would no longer be allowed to be on the show.
“It ain’t nothing against me and BET. BET, I love BET, I’ve been watching BET all my life. I am BET, BET is black entertainment, you know what I’m saying?” Webbie explained to the morning show.”That was some personal stuff, you know with Rocsi and Terrence you know, that’s his old lady I guess. Go look at the computer, look at the Vibe Magazine and that’s what happened.”
Webbie defended himself and clarified his relationship with Rocsi.
He also eluded to a recent Vibe.com photo of him and Rocsi that has been catching headlines recently.
“Look, look, look, that Vibe Magazine picture, that’s what happened. My album November 15. Savage Live 3,” he added. “I knew her before I made ‘Bad B***h’, ‘Gimme that P***y’ before I started making rap, I don’t know Terrence.”
“I didn’t never know her personally, I just know how we live and where we live and the picture just explains it all. I just say Terrence, get yo ho mane! Mane get yo ho mane, get yo ho mane, that yo ho, that ain’t got nothing to do with me and BET, this ain’t got nothing to do with the millions of kids that I say stay in school. I make sure to say stay in school.
Despite his ban and recent Twitter posts that said he was going to beat up Terrence J, Webbie sees this as a small issue and said he doesn’t wish any harm towards Terrence J.
“At the end of the day that’s small, get yo ho, get yo girl.”
Webbie plans to release Savage Life 3 on November 15th and is an adamant supporter of the labelmate Lil’ Boosie’s #FreeBoosie campaign to raise money for his legal fees and family while Lil’ Boosie is incarcerated.
Despite the fact that Lil’ Boosie is facing the death penalty, Webbie maintained that Boosie is” coming home soon.”
(AllHipHop News) Almost 1,000 students have signed an online petition that is calling upon rap star Kanye West to speak out against Alabama’s new immigration law.
Kanye is currently in Birmingham, Alabama, where he is spending the month preparing for his “Watch the Throne” tour with Jay-Z.
The students are signing the petition on Change.org, in hopes of getting the superstar rap artist to meet with Civil Rights leaders, politicians and other influential individuals in Alabama, about HB 56.
The controversial bill has been labeled as supporting some of the most extreme anti-immigration legislation in the country.
The petition, which currently has 797 signatures, was organized by William Anderson, a student at University of Alabama Birmingham, as well as a longtime fan Kanye West.
“Like thousands of Kanye fans, I grew up listening to Hip-Hop, and it was one of the things that shaped my consciousness about race and justice,” said William Anderson, who launched the campaign on Change.org. “Alabama’s new immigration law is an attack on the state’s citizens, documented and undocumented. In the spirit of the social justice and hip hop, I hope that Kanye listens to his fans and takes a few minutes to learn and educate others about the crisis that is happening in Alabama.”
Kanye West has yet to respond and he will only be in Alabama until October 28.

After performing together at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, and Tip being featured on Jeezy’s new single “F.A.M.E.,” word has begun to spread that the two Atlanta-bred artists will be linking up for a collaboration album similar to Watch the Throne. In an interview with Billboard, Jeezy said:
“Me and Tip actually were together and we [talked] about it. We’ve just hit the ground running and been doing so many records that I don’t think it’s impossible. And we’ve known each other [long] enough to put something like that together, and I definitely think that the city would need it, because it would be a good look. And it would be an amazing album release party, by the way.”
Jeezy also has a NEW release date for T.M. 103, which is slated to drop on December 20. Amen.
Eminem Working on “8 Mile” Sequel? Not Exactly…
Eminem and Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter have been shopping around the project Southpaw for quite a while now. After being dropped by Dreamworks during the summer, both Sony and MGM studios have shown interest in picking it up and starting production. Sutter recently described to Deadline how the film is a continuation of Eminem’s story and life seen in 8 Mile; however, this film would show Shady’s next chapter told through the perspective of boxing. Check it:
“In a way, this is a continuation of the 8 Milestory, but rather than a literal biography, we are doing a metaphorical narrative of the second chapter of his life. He’ll play a world champion boxer who really hits a hard bottom, and has to fight to win back his life for his young daughter. At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy. I love that the title refers to [Eminem] being a lefty, which is to boxing what a white rapper is to hip hop; dangerous, unwanted and completely unorthodox. It’s a much harder road for a southpaw than a right-handed boxer.”
Maybe this time Em can get that Oscar nomination he was snubbed for back in 2003. 🙂

For his newest project, Population Control, Statik Selektah has linked up with Duck Down Music, some Hip-Hop heavyweights, and a number of “new school” artists to deliver a solid, 19-track album to the masses. The multi-talented “Showoff,” whose many hats include being a DJ, producer, radio host, label owner, and occasional rapper, has brought together close to 50 artists for Population Control, backed by a very familiar and yet maturing sound, provided entirely by the man himself, Statik Selektah.
He has spoken of Population Control as his “way of saying who is legit from the new generation. I added a few of the O.G.’s that still care about our music. This is a different sound from my previous albums. It’s fresh and younger, but still very raw. I’m excited to show the older rap heads how dope some of the new guys are, as well as show some of the kids following the new guys how the O.G.’s get down.” The only question that remains is did Statik succeed? Read our review of Population Control to find out, and when you’re done, check out several videos of Statik’s commentary from his listening party.
The album kicks off with the title track, which features a superb verse from Sean Price and an impressive verse from Showoff artist Termanology. Next is “Play the Game” with two of the year’s biggest new artists, Big K.R.I.T., and Freddie Gibbs, handling verses with ease. K.R.I.T. briefly raps about the first time he performed in New York City, which was also the first time he and Statik met, and the crowd reception he received then compared to his national following now.
“Groupie Love” features Mac Miller and singer Josh Xantus, and could be considered the album’s first misstep. Not to take anything away from Mac or Statik, but this is one of the less exciting and more generic songs featured on the album, and being tucked in between tracks like “Play the Game” and “New York, New York” featuring Saigon, Styles P., and Jared Evan, doesn’t help its case much. “New York” is an anthem in every sense of the word, and the impeccable verses by both Saigon and Styles P elevate the song to a whole never level. What’s interesting is that Statik is from Massachusetts, so his creation of this new ode to his relatively new city is surprising but very necessary.
“Sam Jack” has an amalgam of instruments and sounds behind the featured verses by XV, Jon Connor, and Kid Daytona that truly make the song shine as one of the album’s must hears. It is followed by two more of Population Control’s standout records, the first being “Never A Dull Moment.” With Action Bronson, Bun B, and Termanology on a track together, expect some hardcore and witty lyricism, which is exactly what you get for four minutes straight without a single dull moment, as the title suggests.
On “You’re Gone,” which features Talib Kweli, Lil Fame, and singer Colin Munroe, Statik laces the guys with a laid-back beat very reminiscent of the West Coast, allowing each artist to do their thing in a very familiar yet creative manner. The album begins to fizzle out for a while during the middle of Population Control. Although there are some great verses from artists like Pill, Chace Infinite, and L.E.P. Bogus Boys, this part of the album just feels a little flat, and it has little to nothing to do with the production.
The album picks back up near the 13th song, “Half Moon Part,” including Skyzoo, Chuuwee, and Tayyib Ali over a more uplifting sounding song that helps set the tone for the gem-laced remainder of the album. Over the Jadakiss-sampled “Black Swan,” female MCs Nitty Scott MC and Rapsody let it be known they are to be taken just as seriously as their male counterparts on the album. The ferociousness in their flow just reeks of wanting the attention that their due, and with a song like this, it’s just a matter of time before all eyes are on these two ladies. Joell Ortiz and Brother Ali are featured on the album’s introspective 17th track, “Damn Right” which contains a very soulful Isley Brother sample and turns out to be another one of the album’s certifiable standouts.
“Live and Let Live” features one of Hip-Hop’s most talked about artists as of late, Lecrae. The prominently Christian rapper, who sounds nothing like the preachy artist you would expect, explodes over some strings and claps courtesy of Statik. Population Control closes out on a very high note with “A DJ Saved My Life” which boasts DJ Premier, DJ Babu, Scram Jones, and DJ Craze all taking turns contributing to a song that will surely become a personal highlight for Statik for the rest of his life. The song is an homage to all things DJ, and it sounds great.
Overall the album delivers what is expected. Listeners are treated to some amazing production, great verses, and a roster of artists coming together to create a big moment, not just Hip-Hop, but in music. However, the album does not have a truly, whole cohesive feeling, thanks to some hiccups in sequencing. There are some standouts, some average songs, and a few disappointments, but for what the overall goal was with this album, Statik has certainly succeeded.
Must Hear: “Play the Game,” “New York, New York,” “Never A Dull Moment,” “Sam Jack,” “A DJ Saved My Life”
Statik Selektah’s New Album Population Control is In Stores Now!
A$AP Rocky is a rapper from Harlem that has been getting a nice lil’ underground buzz and just signed under RCA recently. But, he may have made a huge mistake during CMJ. The dude spazzed out at the Fader Fort! Peep the video….
BEEF WITH ODD FUTURE?
Apparently, the guys of Odd Future are quietly not feeling A$AP Rocky and refer to him as “A$AP COPY.” Real talk, I don’t know none of their music. I googled, and this is the first song that came up. Is Odd Future hating, or is this A$AP fella biting?
Sounds like a Southern rapper to me that uses the word “Swag” a lot. What do I know? Nothing.
Rihanna’s love of sex shops is well documented! She’s going to leave nothing to do when she gets old! Sheesh! Anyway she recently went to a sex shop and dropped $1,500 on them, buying sex toys, handcuffs, scented candles and lingerie. And she also bought a sex book by Ellen Von Unwerth, according to the Huffington Post. They said she was hyped to get her stuff and then run back to her hotel. It took her about five minutes to buy all of that! She knew what she was getting! Remember she and Drake when sex shopping in the summer? Who is the lucky man this time or is she self satisfying this time?
(AllHipHop News) A documentary that chronicles the seven year battle of rapper J. Swift’s drug addiction, is being released digitally this December.
The documentary “1 More Hit” will be released in December, to a number of digital distribution outlets and VOD services.
The documentary focuses on J. Swift’s battle with crack cocaine, an addiction that help derail his career as a producer for The Pharcyde, in the mid-1990s.
“Everyone’s reaction to drugs and alcohol is different,” J-Swift told AllHipHop.com. “Drugs are like the ocean. There’s a lot of great musicians that got in too deep and a riptide took them away. Music was a life vest for me, my family and God rescued me. My new album [February 2012] is the culmination of everything I went through.”
According to the film’s director Shauna Garr, “1 More Hit” originally started off as a pilot for a reality series, but the complicated story ended up taking longer to film and was quickly turned into a critically acclaimed documentary
“I want to get this story out before another young talented musician or artist is doomed to the same destruction,” added director Shauna
Garr.
Garr stated that “1 More Hit” is far from a sad documentary about a drug addict.
According to Garr, the documentary highlights J-Swift’s charismatic personality, as he pursues his family life, raises his children, rebuilds recording career and fights his addiction.
The documentary “1 More Hit” is due to be released digitally on December 5, 2011, to over 16.5 million homes.
