For the past few months, I have waited anxiously for the “new” Epic Records to unveil projects from its fresh line-up of R&B singers. Much of this excitement was fueled by Antonio “L.A.” Reid’s attachment to the label, as well as his meticulous selection of executives to assist him with its rollout.
Adding an additional layer of excitement, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart was designated as the president of A&R; his brother, Mark Stewart, was named EVP of A&R operations. On April 10, 2012, the label released one of its first major projects: a soundtrack to the comedy film adaptation of Steve Harvey’s “Act Like A Woman, Think Like A Man”. For this particular release, “Tricky” served as executive producer.
Considering the massive success of the original New York Times bestselling non-fiction text, the pressure was on to match the literary predecessors accomplishments visually – and sonically, with original music for its motion picture soundtrack. In both respects, the mission was soundly accomplished – and the Think Like a Man soundtrack is worthy of residence in the penthouse suite of Billboard’s top albums chart.
To be expected, the compilation includes songs from a few veteran acts:
Inclusions of this sort are to be expected. However, the real gems – and the album’s best-kept secrets – belong to a group of young, aspiring talents. My favorites include: Marcus Canty (“Won’t Make A Fool Out of You”), Quadron (“Baby Be Mine”), RaVaughn (“Same Old Bullsh*t”), and Brandon Hines (“Fire”). Each performance is executed with perfection. Songwriting credits are attributed to Canty and Hines on their respective tracks, too.
Such amazing talent will be the key to Epic Records “takeover” – and “makeover” – of the contemporary R&B landscape. On February 14, 2012, Billboard.biz announced that Sylvia Rhone will be launching her own label under the Epic Records umbrella. With in-house access to the professional guidance and dedicated mentorship of esteemed industry veterans, like L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone, this group of aspiring artists will undoubtedly be pushed – and expected – to maximize their full potential.
I am particularly excited about Brandon Hines, who recently released a video to his very own non-soundtrack single: “Yes You Are.” The song and accompanying video treatment are simply marvelous.
Viewers of the 2011 edition of The X Factor may also remember Marcus Canty from his dynamic cover of Boyz II Men’s “Song for Mama” – featuring an emotional on-screen moment with his mother.
Time and time again, through unparalleled artistic development techniques under their watch, L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone have produced – in their respective careers – a musical legacy of Midas-like proportions with sustainable acts over the years: Reid (TLC, Usher and Outkast) and Rhone (Drake, Lil’ Wayne and Erykah Badu). Expect nothing subpar from this Epic “dynamic duo.”

(AllHipHop News) Last week, Stalley hosted the first-date of his tour last week at Club Eve in Miami, Florida in support of his new mixtape “Savage Journey To the American Dream.”
The rapper took the time to discuss his upcoming untitled debut for Rick Ross’ label Maybach Music Group.
“That might be a couple months from now, it might be a year from now, we’ll see where I’m at as man,” Stalley told AllHipHop.com. “I talk about what’s going on. I basically go about my writing as I live.”
According to Stalley, his latest mixtape “Savage Journey To the American Dream” has been well received and is helping him get to the next level of his career.
“I’ve met a lot of my goals and life long dreams and accomplished them, but I still want so much more,” Stalley told AllHipHop.com. “I guess that’s the savage in me. I feel like a lot of people can relate to that, because we all have dreams and goals and once we obtain them we find ourselves wanting more.”

DJ KHALED’S BUS DRIVER GOES UNDER THE TOUR BUS!
So, you may have read the twitter announcement that I am returning to AllHipHop. This is true. Click here to read the press release. I don’t officially start until the 7th of May, but I thought I’d get things started early with a nice, lil’ nugget about DJ Khaled’s Bus Driver. DJ Khaled might be the best, but his bus wasn’t because the damn thing blew up! (Later, I will speak on the overall state of things, including illseed.com, Sydney Lace and AllHipHop! Thanks, everybody that held me down and kept a good word!)
AND check out the customized bus before it went up in flames.
Nobody was hurt.
Now, I don’t know what happened with the bus, but I am hearing that he may have been the victim of somebody else’s incompetence! Well, we don’t know this for certain, but one thing is for sure…Khaled has a bus driver that loves to talk ish about his boss! AllHipHop just happened to talk to him at one point on a hum and dude just rambled on and on about DJ LKhaled! We don’t know if he was the driver of this particular bus at this time, but he sure this guy is about to know the Wrath of Da Besssssss! Anyway, I wonder what he was drinking when he came out of his mouth on this day?
Illseed back.
Last week, Carmen Bryant, the mother of Nas’ 17-year-old daughter, Destiny, was very upset over Nas’ new single, “Daughters”, in which he reveals details about his relationship with his daughter. She chose to air out her grievances on Twitter, click here if you missed that story. Well, it looks like Carmen was the only one mad about it.
Nas’ daughter, Destiny, shared over Twitter that she was spending some quality time with her father. Check out her tweets below:
Glad to see things are going well for Nas and his daughter Destiny.
No, we did not do anything to that Chris Brown picture. That’s actually a photo that Brown instagram’ed himself to his followers. I really hope it’s for a movie role…moving right along!
Breezy looks to be either kicking knowledge or dissing a few of his fellow celebrity friends with his recent tweet. Check out what he tweeted below:
Now, who could he be talking about? There’s so many of these going on right now. You have the high profile engagement of Amber Rose and Wiz Kalifah.
Then there’s Kanye West hooking up with Kim Kardashian and apparently loving every minute of it.
Then you have Chris’ own best friend YMCMB’s Tyga wifing legendary Miami stripper Blac Chyna…
Who do you think Chris is aiming his guns at?
Six-time Grammy Award winner Rihanna has just released a video for “Where Have You Been”, a song that appears on her latest album, Talk That Talk.
Check out Ri-Ri’s new visual below:
The Hip-Hop world mostly knows him from his recent hit-single, “Snapbacks and Tattoos”, which has been receiving constant rotation on radio as well as on countdown shows like BET’s “106th and Park.” But, before he delivers his debut album, Success By the Graham, later this year, 20 year-old Driicky Graham will release his DJ Ill Will presented mixtape, Ya Gotta Start Somewhere.
The North Carolina resident with New Jersey roots has been getting so much attention lately, he managed to attract the heads over at eOne Music who signed him last month to a record deal that will have his debut album, Success By the Graham, hitting store shelves later this year.
Driicky spoke to AllHipHop.com about his recently-inked deal with eOne Music, how he almost signed with G-Unit, and the transition he made from dancing to rapping. Check out the video below:
Driicky then talked about his upcoming mixtape with DJ Ill Will entitled Ya Gotta Start Somewhere, as well as his plans for the inevitable remix to “Snapbacks and Tattoos“:
In the last clip, Driicky goes into detail about his debut album, Success By the Graham, his work with Juicy J, and the status of his supposed “beef” with Don Trip:

In 2007, Atlanta-based R&B crooner Ray Lavender released one of the year’s most popular singles “Girl Got A Girlfriend”, and even featured a remix with Red Cafe and Fabolous. A second single was released; however, an album never materialized, even though he was signed to Akon’s Kon Live Music imprint.
Lavender admits, “I didn’t have my stuff together. I just knew how to sing, and I had some hits. You can sing all day and be talented all day, but if you don’t have the proper people in line, then it can mess your whole career up. I don’t see me coming in [with] “Girl Got A Girlfriend”, and I’m out.”
AllHipHop.com caught up with Lavender in New York City to discuss the real reason why his album was shelved, comparisons to his former labelmate T-Pain and their auto-tuning, and the scoop behind his latest buzz single and video, “Tequila”:
