T-Boz, Chilli Talk Left Eye; Unreleased Track Feat. Dayton Family Hits Net

(AllHipHop News) An unreleased track featuring late singer/songwriter Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes has been released on the Internet, on the eve of the 10-year anniversary of her death.

The TLC member was killed in a tragic car crash in the Honduras on April 25, 2002.

In honor of her death, a previously unreleased song titled “Fantasies” featuring Bootleg of the Dayton Family has been released.

The track was released by Block Starz Music, a German label that was recently acquired by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

“The word anniversary means a celebration,” TLC group member Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “For us her death will never be a celebration, it’s still something that hurts.”

The song “Fantasies,” which is being sold via iTunes, will be donated to the Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Foundation.

“Lisa is our sister. You never get over losing a family member,” Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas added. “We love her and we miss her and that isn’t ever going to change.”

In related news T-Boz and Chilli are producing a new biopic on the rise of TLC for VH1.

The untitled film is being written by Kate Lanier, who wrote the critically acclaimed bio-pic “What’s Love Got to Do With,” about soul legend Tina Turner.

“This project is truly a dream come true for us,” added Chilli.

A portion of the proceeds from “Fantasies” will go to the Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Foundation.

reading these words right now, then you know that nothing is impossible! You know that anything you want in life is already yours, if you make the attempt to get it! You are also aware that you don’t become a failure by failing; you become a failure by giving up… And contrary to popular belief, if you don’t try then…. Yup!! You gave up way before you even started!!

Give your dream a shot! Allow it to come true by taking the most important step…. Beginning!! You are built to last and withstand many adversities…. I can almost guarantee that the thing you fear the most will most likely never happen!! So make life happen!! Get what you deserve out of life!!!

Jay-Z, Will Smith Back Video App “Viddy”

(AllHipHop News) Entertainment moguls Jay-Z and Will Smith are among a group of investors who are backing a new video sharing application, Viddy.

Viddy is an app for the iPhone which allows users to create small videos and share them with friends, much like Instagram works with photos.

So far, the Viddy app is a hit, with over 10 million registered users and 300,000 new members per-day.

Yesterday, the company announced that Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Shakira and Twitter founder Biz Stone are among the new investors in the company.

In an interview with the New York Times, Brett O’Brien, the founder of Viddy said that the celebrities were bought an undisclosed amount equity and will help to increase the “it factor” of the app.

“Shakira has 40 million fans on Facebook and she is huge in Latin America,” Brett O’Brien told the New York Times. “I’m pretty sure this will help us get bigger in Latin America.”

In February, Viddy completed a $5.5 million round of funding as well.

Salute the Spin Doctors!: DJ Jazzy Jeff Reminds Us Why the World Needs DJs…and His Signature Pro-Keds Sneaker

Editor’s Note: DJs carried the original torch for Hip-Hop – back when there were no MCs! AllHipHop.com is taking a little time out to “Salute the Spin Doctors” this month. Check back for more feature stories and editorials with some of the top DJs across the country.

Let’s just make one thing clear, you can’t possibly “Salute the Spin Doctors” without talking to Jeffrey Allen Townes first. Known best to the world as DJ Jazzy Jeff, he is one half of the duo who won the first ever Grammy Award for Rap with their 1989 hit  single, “Parents Just Don’t Understand”. Not to be forgotten as his partner’s star rose, Jeff has continued to DJ, produce, and help develop and guide budding music careers.

With Virginia’s own Skillz by his side and Hip-Hop icon Biz Markie handling duties on the 1’s and 2’s during a recent in-store appearance at West N.Y.C., Jazzy Jeff mingled and socialized with curious onlookers of his upcoming sneaker, along with all-around admirers and appreciators of the immense time, work, and overall class that Jeff has contributed to Hip-Hop for almost three decades.

AllHipHop.com was on hand to catch up with Jazzy Jeff during his Pro-Keds in-store and got him to speak on the signature sneaker that he designed for release in November. He also noted whether he has any desires to venture out further into the sneaker fashion game.

Jeff then went into “spinner” mode and compared the role and importance of the DJ 20 years ago to what it is today. In addition to some other great tidbits, DJ Jazzy Jeff told AllHipHop.com he is ultimately responsible for Mac Miller and DJ Premier hooking up, and that he thoroughly supports the Pittsburgh native in all of his endeavors.

AllHipHop and SOB’s brought Juvenile to New York for the release of his Nino The Magnificent (FreEp). Hosted by DJ Envy and Angela Yee of Power 105 Breakfast Club, Juvie performed all his classic hits to a packed house in New York and it was clear, Juvenile is back!
