Soulja Boy: From Drug and Gun Charges to DVD Movies!

AllHipHop.com reported news on this earlier but for those that haven’t seen or heard about this yet, here is the deal from Billboard: “The 21-year old star (real name DeAndre Cortez Way) was in a Cadillac Escalade with four other men when police pulled them over around 3:15 AM about 20 miles east of the Alabama state line. Temple Police spokesperson Dana Rampy told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that there was a “substantial amount” of marijuana, cash and guns in the vehicle. “It was a lot of marijuana,” Rampy said without giving an exact amount. “All of the individuals were very cooperative.”

 Reached by phone, Rampy told Billboard that Way and the four other men were held at the Carroll County jail will appear before a judge any minute and be charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony possession of a weapon in commission of a crime and possession with intent to distribute.”

In other news, Soulja Boy: The Movie is in stores now. That my friends, is not a joke.

 

Quickies:

-Andre 3000, T.I., Lil Wayne, and Wiz Khalifa are all joining forces for the remix to…wait for it…Ke$ha’s “Sleazy.” Yeah.

-The Throne tour that is headlined by Jay-Z and Kanye West have added some new dates: 2 at Madison Square Garden, and 2 in Chicago. Think back to the Eminem, Jay shows that went down last fall, this is going to be E.P.I.C.

-The Dark Knight Rises (in theaters next summer) will be filming the Wall Street protests for scenes for the film next week. No joke necessary, this is just cool.

-Eminem, alongside The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards and Lil Wayne, will cover the “Gods of Rock” issue of GQ magazine.

-Video director Colin Tilley revealed that he has begun work on 50 Cent’s new music video for release before the end of the year. Guess that album IS on the way!

-Jahlil Beats, producer of Meek Mill’s “I’ma Boss” has just signed a management deal with Jay-Z’s RocNation imprint. Congrats!

-DJ Premier shut down Justin Bieber’s request to join a BET Cypher when Justin asked Ludacris to ghostwrite a verse for him. Preemo wasn’t having it.

-Transformers 4 and 5 are on the way, shooting back-to-back, and starring Jason Statham. In other words prepare for The Transporter going head-to-head with Megatron!

-Sequels to Weezy’s I Am Not A Human Being and Rebirth are on the way. Get excited?

There seems to be a lot of talk within industry circles about North Carolina based Rapper Terry “Cardiact” Godwin. He is quickly making a name for himself in the world of Hip Hop. This rap renegade has performed all over the world and has collaborated with the likes of Bobby Creekwater and Reggae artist Palance. Cardiact has gained the respect and the backing of such influential music industry vets as Grammy winner Rockwilder and he’s performed with the likes of heavy hitters such as T-Pain.

Cardiact: I’m Cardiact. I know who I am and what I want. I’m not trying to fit into a slot; I’m making my own slot. I’m unique in my own style and unmatchable in my own lane. In my eyes there is only one aspiring artist and that hunger continues to set me apart from any other artist major or aspiring.

Cardiact: At the age of eleven I discovered that Hip Hop was part of my soul. It became away for me to express pinned up emotions. Hip Hop is therapeutic. By the age of13 I truly realized that I had skills as an MC and that I could use my words and lyrics to influence people. I pen my music to be exciting, vibrant and dynamic. My stories are often times violent and dark as well as poignant and inspirational. My music is the story of my life.

Cardiact: I’ve been inspired by Biggie, 2 Pac, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Jay Z, and of course Eminem.

Cardiact: I’m currently pushing my singles “Put Your Hands Up” and “When The Music Stops.” Also I’m working on a new exciting series called Unsigned Cyphers presented by Clark Music Group.

Cardiact: I have worked with many producers. But lately I’ve worked with RockWilder, the Smith Bros, Sinima and right now I am working with two crazy sick producers out of N.C. who go by the name Nubreedz and Perfect Harmony.

Cardiact: It’s going to be a masterpiece. It’s going to have a lot of southern feel to it while still having a Northern vibe to it as well. I’ve got different producers from both regions (North and South) who will, and have made a big impact on how the album will affect the listener in different ways. It’s going to be an incredible LP from beginning to end. It will be one of those albums that you do not want to miss.

Will & Jada Pinkett-Smith Invest In Philadelphia 76ers

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Will Smith is among a group of investors who are now owners of the Philadelphia 76ers, it was announced today during a press conference.

The sale was unanimously approved by the NBA Board of Governors last week, to investors led by multibillionaire Joshua Harris.

“My partners and I are thrilled to have become owners of the Sixers,” Joshua Harris said in a statement.”It is an honor to become part of this storied franchise. We have a lot of work to do, but we have a rich history, a strong foundation and a bright future.”

Will Smith, a Philadelphia native, and his wife Jade Pinkett own undisclosed percentage of Philadelphia 76ers.

The investment makes Will Smith the second major record to have a significant stake in an NBA basketball team.

Jay-Z, who is working with the Smith’s to produce the a film version of “Annie,” also owns a percentage of the Brooklyn Nets.

Swizz Beatz, Rappers Joins Mayor Bloomberg To Denounce Violence

(AllHipHop News) Super producer Swizz Beatz will join New York Mayor, Michael Bloomberg in bringing awareness to New York City public healthcare and their upcoming Anti-Gun campaign, “Guns Down, Life Up.”

Swizz will be honored tonight (October 18) during The STAT! For New York City’s Public Hospitals! Gala Benefit taking place at the Bellevue Hospital Atrium.

In addition to the Mayor honoring Swizz for his philanthropic work, the Big Apple Circus Clown Unit will be recognized during the event, for entertaining hospitalized children at pediatric facilities around the country.

Additionally, Dr. Bruce Siegel M.D., M.P.H/CEO of the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems will also be honored.

A number of other celebrities are expected to attend the event, including George Clinton, Sheila E., Doug E. Fresh, Questlove of The Roots, Marley Marl, Kangol Kid, Kool Herc, Bernie Worrell, Paul Shaffer, Hezekiah Walker, Meredith Vieira, Ray Chew and others.

A portion of the proceeds of the event tonight will support the launch of the “Guns Down, Life Up” the initiative to combat gun violence in New York City.

U.S.D.A Inks Deal With SMC; Preps New Album “The After Party”

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy and his extended crew U.S.D.A. have announced the release date for their highly anticipated album, the after party.

Young Jeezy founded U.S.D.A. shortly after he left the platinum selling hip-hop group, Boys N’ The Hood.

Although this is the group’s second release, The After Party is their first official album.

The group, which consists of Slick Pulla, 2Eleven, Boo Rossini and Young Jeezy, has inked a deal with San Francisco-based label, SMC recordings to release The After Party.

The first official single off the album, which is due in stores November 15th, is called “Look At The Club.”

Soulja Boy Arrested In Georgia On Weed, Gun Charges

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy is in trouble with the law after getting caught with marijuana.

According to TMZ.com, the 21-year-old was caught with four other men in a car in Temple, Georgia.

Police decided to conduct a search when they noticed the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle turned up a large amount of marijuana, $70,000 in cash, and guns.

Police immediately arrested Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way. Soulja Boy is currently being held in the Carroll City jail. In February 2010, Soulja Boy was given 12 months probation, over an incident in Henry County, Georgia.

The rapper was among a group of about 40 people who fled from police while shooting a video in an abandoned house.

Ironically, the rapper’s arrest comes on the same day as the release of his new autobiographical film, Soulja Boy: The Movie, featuring Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Hurricane Chris, and others.
