Fashion: The Boyfriend Jean

Ladies, one of the hottest trends this spring is the “boyfriend jean”.

Various celebs have been spotted in this look, such as trendsetters Katie Holmes and Lindsay Lohan.

Katie Holmes

Gwen Stefani

Rachel Bilson

To achieve this laid back effortless look, get yourself a pair of slightly baggy straight leg jeans, and roll them up to just above your ankles.

Or if you think you can pull it off, you could just steal your boyfriend’s pants to get the authentic boyfriend jean experience!

The most popular wash for this look is a light to medium vintage wash, and ripped or distressed denim is also making a strong comeback.

This jean is best paired with a slim fitting top, such as a tank top, cardigan, or a boyish tee.

Since the jeans are meant to be worn loosely around the waist, it’s best to keep your top sitting just above the waist band, with a stylish belt to top it off.

In terms of shoes, anything from canvas sneakers, sexy pumps to gladiator sandals works.

Ladies, can you see yourself rocking the boyfriend jean?

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

TODAY’S RUMORS!

THE DAILY TWO SENSE

First of all, check out Jigsaw’s column on how “Twitter Will End Your Music Career.” It is a MUST read for any artist out there and anybody interested in the blogging/video/social media scene.

So, moving on, I am really sad to say, this was a weird week for rumors. Nothing crazy happened! I don’t know. I guess, we’ll see! Continue to send me your artist sightings and anything else that you may hear.

EMINEM’S BROTHER’S MUG SHOT

Em’s bro Nate got busted for driving liquored up. Hopefully this will get him some notoriety for his rap career. We all need a boost here and there.

REDMAN TELLS IT!

(click the pic)

LA REID DEEMS 50 CENT “ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREATS!”Charlie Rose is one of the greats as far as journalists are concerned. He got LA Reid, head of Def Jam, to say the following:

“50 Cent is one of the all time greatest [rappers]. He’s one of the greats. First of all, he had a great voice and as a

rapper, an amazing voice. He was authentic, he is also a great song

writer, right? So they were evenly matched for the sort of battle. And

I think Kanye, at that point, had the better song…I like to believe

it’s always the great song. It’s always the song…[But] a good artist

with a great song can be a one-hit wonder. It can be number one…Some

of the greats don’t always go for a number one record…Or Jay-Z who in

my opinon is the Frank Sinatra of our day has had many, many hits and

has huge success but Jay told me he had never had a number one pop

record. But he has more number one albums than any artist alive…But I

do know he won’t jeopardize his integrity to get a number one record.” Do you agree?!

ILLSEED’S PLUS 1 These taxes are biting people BADLY. Apparently, he owes $500,000! Half a milli in taxes! Read about it here. Good luck X to the Z. I will support whatever you are doing!Because the rumors are coming in slowly, I am going to try to add on during the day a bit right here. The dude that put the Domino’s Pizza in his nasty nose has been arrested, along with the female that video tapedit. What idiots!I just heard that a famous Black actor in a famous Boxing movie not named Mr. T is gay. Also, I want to comment on something from a ways back. Somebody said I tried to slander that transexual that got raped. I did not. Rape isn’t cool. And if I thought it was, I wouldn’t broadcast it. Amy Winehouse is working on a children’s book. Hmmm…I wonder if it will serve as an anti-drug PSA?

ILL PICS

I knew Jada’s new album wasn’t the last kiss! Caption this!

Caption this! What are Latifah and Aunt Viv saying?

Jeezy and Boosie did an Easter Egg Hunt!

I know Dougie Fresh has to be feeling some kind of way about Biz on the Beat!

Boxing ROYALTY! Sugar Ray Leonard, Iron Mike Tyson and Sugar Shane Mosley!

Ice-T is aging, but he’s still the man. Sorry, kids.

Classic ILL PIC!

It was all good…13 years ago.

JAY-Z’S MOTHER DOES GOOD!

I was talking to my dude JG over at Shaw University in NC. He told me earlier this week he was with some kids from his job in Columbus, Ohio and happened to come across some of the NYC students that were from the Shawn Carter Foundation. As if it wasn’t cool enough to see the Hova Foundation supporting the youth of NY, their chaperon introduced herself as none other than Gloria Carter aka Mama Hov. I didn’t even know jay-Z STILL did this! You know, these stars do stuff and is just for show and then it disappears. But Jay’s doing it and including his mother. Dope! JG told me she was a real cool lady and used the word “non-descript.” She introduced herself (“allow me to re-introduce myself, I’m Mama Hov – H to the OV!!”) and went back to tending to her kids but the family resemblance was undeniable. Thanks JG aka “your favorite rappers favorite poet.”

SHOOTING AT RICK ROSS SHOW

This was kind of crazy. I have to say, when bullets fly, I fly out! I don’t play it cool at all. I’m not like Rick Ross or Scarface.

LIL KIM IN SCOTT STORCH’S MESS

Lil Kim must have the bomb choch! Scott Storch gave her the leased Bentley that sent him to the slammer! I wonder what happened to that sucker? Looks like Lil Kim will have to testify in court next month. Will they brand her like they branded Cease!? LOL! Nah, no dis to Cease. Speaking of Cease, does anybody know what happened to Maino and the NYPD? Moving along…

IS FERGIE BALDING?

I have to say, I am getting desperate for good rumors when I start talking about the follicles in Fergies head. Anyway, somebody took a picture of Fergie and her hair seemed a bit thin at the top. I don’t know man. Who cares right? Anyway, they are saying that Fergie might be losing her hair because she is under a tremendous amount of stress or she is experiencing unfavorable changes in her diet. I hope Fergie gets help and I will take all advice from her doctor, because I am trying to grow and afro and its not working.

OJ DA JUICE MAN TALKS ABOUT GETTING SHOT 8 TIMES

Remember when getting shot, meant something? Now, you can get shot survive, and nobody really cares. But we care about the music from OJ Da Juice man! He’s a strong dude. Did a week show after getting shot! WOW.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

The Game is on his way back. Here is the stuff that’s going around! The Game is reportedly working with Kanye, Timbaland, Cool & Dre and DJ Premier!

Juelz Santanta and Skull Gang are on their way! They are coming out soon. I wonder how they are going to contend with this UK situation. It’s getting hectic.

INTERESTING AD, KANYE

Kanye did an ad for something he’s selling and he decided to do his girl Amber another solid. Pause. He put her in the ad, even though we’ve been hearing they are no longer an item. The gift that keeps on giving.

HULK HOGAN EATS HIS WORDS

A rep sent out the following statement: “Hulk in no way condones the O.J. situation. As part of a larger conversation, he referred to it to exemplify his frustration with his own situation.”

His wife’s rep issued the following statement, “We are taking these recent comments seriously… We have always maintained that the fear that Linda has had to live with comes from the rage and instability much too often associated with pro wrestlers.”

JD BEEFS WITH BLOGGERS AND BOW WOW WANTS TO EAT JOE BUDDEN’S GIRL

SMH. “No disrespect to Joe, I’ll eat it, my n***a.”

Cats need to log off.

EPIC WIN OF THE DAY

Somebody decided to do this mock conversation between Foxy and Lil Kim. CLASSIC.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

What the hell? A damn p### star rapper has come out and dissed Rick Ross! B. Pumper has a song called “Cut It Out Ricky” — WTF!?

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY

People are losing their minds. A man decided it was a good idea…to stand up during a flight to Hawaii and PEE on a fellow passenger. Jerome Kenneth Kingzio, 28, of Saipan, Northern Marina Islands was sentenced to 21 day in jail for assault. No, he didn’t hit a person…he PEED on her! A 66-year-old woman got the R. Kelly treatment from this perverted monk during a March 21 flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, the Honolulu. The old woman was watching a movie when the g############ started to rain. I swear…people are crazy.

READER OF THE DAY

What in the heck is going on. This is regarding the book cover that oddly had Jay-Z on the cover. Read this unedited letter for a great reader named Kristen.

Hi illseed and everyone else!!! I read your posts everyday and generally never have any gripes but toddy is another story!!I just want to make a comment on the posting that was on the site today. I am not trying to come off as being mean i just want you to know your facts before you start making a diss!!! Olaudah Equiano was a British Black man who fought for the abolishment of slavery in the 1700’s. He was first enslaved at the age of eleven and refused to change his name to the name that his slave master gave him. It is a lot more to this story but I am pretty sure you aren’t interested. All I am saying is when you put a story on your site do a little research first because he is one of our African ancestors that tried to do some good for us black people. Also he did write the book but someone else obviously decided that the only way to draw readers now a days is by depicting a portrait of Jay-Z so when you say “sic em Jay” you are making a positive situation into a negative one. If Jay-Z has any common sense he would be happy that his ugly ass is even on the cover of that book. I believe the Illustrator and Publishing Company decided to put his face on their to get people interested in the book! Might I add it is a very good book I had to read it for one of my classes you should check it out too!!! Thanks Illseed and like i previously said I am not trying to be mean I just want you to know that this is definitely not a diss to Jay-Z since the book is an autobiography of one of our people that were enslaved back in the day!!!

SHOW ME YOUR GENITALS

This was going to be the fail of the day and then I saw it had 9 million views. This is a better one…lol…I love this.

Xzibit Hit With $500k Tax Bill; Launches ‘Euro-Dollar’ Tour

Rapper/actor Xzibit is attracting attention from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for being delinquent on his taxes.

According to reports the entertainer, born Alvin Joiner, owes the IRS $501,840 in federal taxes.

The debt resulted from a $296,355 lien filed by the IRS in Los Angeles County on April 17, 2008.

That action was followed by a $205,485 lien the IRS filed in the Los Angeles County Recorder of Deeds office on February. 4.

Xzibit is the latest celebrity to come under fire for failing to pay taxes.

In March, the New York Department of Taxation repossessed a 2008 Lincoln Navigator belonging to Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man.

The seizure, which took place at the rapper’s Staten Island home, stemmed from the Method Man’s failure to pay $52,503 in personal income taxes.

Last week, news surfaced that singer Dionne Warwick and actor/comedian Sinbad made the California Franchise Tax Board’s list of delinquent taxpayers.

Sinbad, who was listed as Sinbad Adkins of Oak Park, Ill., ranked number one among celebrities with a debt of $2.5 million in back income taxes that go back to 1999.

Warwick trailed the actor, owing $2.1 million to the state of California.

News of Xzibit’s tax woes come amid the rapper’s current “Euro-Dollar” tour in Europe as well as the release of his latest film, American Violet.

The feature, which also stars Alfre Woodard, Nicole Beharie and Charles S. Dutton, is based on the real-life story of a single mother who takes a stand against a Texas district attorney after she is wrongly charged as a drug dealer and imprisoned.

Xzibit’s Europeans tour dates are listed below: 04/27/09 Helsinki, Finland 04/29/09 Bergen, Norway 04/30/09 Warsaw, Poland 05/1/09 Basel, Switzerland 05/2/09 Lausanne, Switzerland 05/3/09 Oldham, UK 05/3/09 Bradford, UK 05/4/09 Newcastle, UK 05/6/09 Odense, Denmark 05/7/09 Athens, Greece 05/8/09 Oslo, Norway 05/9/09 Barcelona, Spain 05/11/09 Sofia, Bulgaria 05/14/09 Prague, Czech Republic 5/15/09 Bucharest, Romania 5/16/09 Madrid, Spain

The Last Word: Amy Winehouse Turns Down an Eminem Collab, Halle Berry Talks Diabetes, and Michael Jackson Is Off the Auction Block

How’s life? The week is over and we’ve come away knowing that the Obamas have a new family member in Bo the first dog, Dominoes is going hard at two employees who made a mockery of the Pizza company by YouTubing themselves doing some sick things to their food, and John Madden entering a new phase in his life by retiring as football’s premier sports announcer (a damn sad day).Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Delfonics founding member Randy Cain, who died last week at the age of 63. Shout out to Capt. Richard Phillips, who came out OK after being held hostage by Somali pirates and the sounding boards for making sure I ride among friendsAnd now the main event…the Last Word for the week ending April 17, 2009.

1. Prince Musically Flirts with Salma Hayek and Penelope

Cruz

Over the years, Prince has been known to enjoy the company

of a beautiful woman. Vanity, Apollonia, Sheila E. Mayte…do I need to keep

going? But despite taking a more spiritual road nowadays, US Weekly says the hitmaker is exhibiting a bit of his former

self as he gets his musical flirt on with Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz in the

song “Valentina.”

The name of the track, which can be found on Prince’s new

three-CD set, may not strike a nerve until you realize that Valentina is the

name of Hayek’s 18-month old daughter. Hence the connection as the crooner

sings:

“Hey Valentina, tell your mama she should give me a call/

When she get tired of runnin’ after you down the hall/And she’s all worn out

from those late-night feedings/and she’s ready for another rock and roll

meeting,”

As tempting as a meeting with the Purple One may be, it may

be hard to make considering that Salma is now married. But hey, you can’t blame

the guy for trying. Two times if you count the part of the song where he

targets Cruz, who is currently dating Oscar winner Javier Bardem.

“If Penelope wants to Cruz there ain’t no way that we ain’t

gon’ dance,” Prince sings.

It’s nice to see the player in Prince still lives. Much

respect to the guys who have Salma and Penelope, but when Prince flirts with

your girl, you better tighten your grip. One song and it’s a wrap with a purple

rain of tears for not taking heed to the warning.

2. Jamie Foxx Practices Literal Insanity for The Soloist

Could this be why Jamie Foxx went in on Miley Cyrus and later

apologized?

With any actor, it’s always a plus when he or she can

completely dedicate themselves to a role, but Mr. Foxx may have put himself out

there a little too much. According to the Oscar winner, it got to the point

where he nearly lost his mind playing real life homeless schizophrenic cello

prodigy Nathanial Ayers in the upcoming film The Soloist.

“You had to lose your mind every day you’re on set, and

sometimes you didn’t have enough time to get your mind back before the weekend,”

Foxx told EUR’s Lee Bailey.   “I

just remember calling my manager like, ‘I know what it is; I know why he’s crazy!’

And my manager’s like, ‘Foxx? Are you okay?’ I said, ‘No, no, no! He does this

because of this, he does that because of this, and I’m gonna go crazy, and I’m

gonna lose everything, and I’m gonna be homeless, but I’m gonna be able to play

the piano great…’[My manager] says, ‘Foxx, I’m on my way over.’”

Despite believing that actors don’t need their own

therapists while filming difficult roles, Foxx ended up taking his manager and

agent’s suggestion that he talk to a psychiatrist, “just so you’ll have a way

to get out of your head,” they said, according to the actor.

As a result, Foxx is sold on bringing in a therapist when

the need exists. “I had no idea that the mind could be that fragile,” he

said.

To see how crazy Jamie gets, be sure to check out The

Soloist when it arrives in theaters on

April 24.

3. Amy Winehouse Turns Down Eminem Collaboration

Is it me or is Amy Winehouse deliberately trying not to make

a solid comeback? I could be wrong, but it looks like the embattled diva has

missed out on another chance to let her music do the talking rather than her

tabloid headlines.

According to The Sun,

Winehouse has turned down a chance to work with Eminem for the rapper’s highly

anticipated album, Relapse.

Eminem was hoping to repeat the success he had with his 2000 Dido-assisted hit

“Stan” by recruiting the songstress. But all plans for the collaboration fell

through according to a source, who revealed that it would only be a dream.

“Eminem has followed Amy’s career closely. They have both

had drug addiction issues and he empathizes with her and hoped to feature her

on (comeback album) Relapse,” the source

told The Sun. “His idea was to

make a track as magical as ‘Stan’ but unfortunately Amy declined”

Despite Winehouse’s snubbing, the source stated that Eminem

was optimistic about a joint project somewhere down the road.

“He understands that recently she hasn’t been in a state to

focus on music because of her tumultuous private life but he hopes they will get

together on a future project.”

I hope Amy gets it together myself. The thought of her and

Em on a song has classic written all over it. The “Rehab” remix with Jay-Z was

good, but this could trump it if they ever get around to it.

4. Halle Berry Makes Vanity Fair’s Most Beautiful; Calls Out Non-Exercising Celebs

Halle Berry has made yet another list. The only difference

is she isn’t sitting pretty at the top.

That honor would have to go to Angelina Jolie, who ranked

Number One on Vanity Fair’s list to find

the Most Beautiful Woman in the World with 58 percent of the vote. Berry was

among 19 other beauties listed for the magazine’s survey. Despite coming in at Number

Three (behind supermodel Gisele Bündchen’s nine percent) four percent of the

vote, Halle did get a leg up on Beyoncé who tied for fifth place with Slumdog

Millionaire star Frida Pinto, Cate

Blanchett, Catherine Deneuve and Natalia Vodianova with 2 percent.

The biggest disappointment, in my opinion was the amount of

votes for Kerry Washington (one percent). Is it too late for a recount?

No matter what, Kerry always ranks high on my (and Mr.

Richardson’s) most beautiful list. But being beautiful, sexy, or whatever you

want to call it doesn’t come without its fair share of work. Just ask Halle,

who called out celebrities who say they stay slim without exercising. Talking

with Harper’s Bazaar, it seems the

actress shares other women’s pain as she admitted to having to work hard to

keep that body of hers.

“God bless them if they’re telling the truth. It’s

questionable if they are,” said Berry. “I always had to diet. I’m diabetic, so

it’s a lifestyle for me anyway just to stay healthy and not end up in the

hospital.”

And there you have it. Another celebrity we can relate to.

Take away the money, fame and I can picture her at Wal-Mart on any given day

searching for the next big bargain.

So fellas, who would you consider to be the most beautiful

woman in the world? Would it be a celebrity, co-worker, significant other or

that potential jump-off you saw the other day? What say you?

5. Eva Mendes Supports the Pleasure Principle

As one of the most beautiful women around, Eva Mendes can

command a captive audience. Maybe that’s why she was on hand last week to

launch the world’s largest survey on pleasure as Magnum’s Global Pleasure

Ambassador.

According to Fox News, the poll is aimed at discovering the

human pleasure quotient through surveying 100,000 people from around the world.

The results from the survey will be released in a few months.

As far as what gives Miss Eva pleasure, the answer is simple

if you ask her.

“I love chocolate! I like chocolate like no-one else and I

love indulging,” Mendes shared with Fox News. “In fact, I am all about

pleasure. I am the girl who will get three massages a week — that’s my

luxury and that’s where I spend most of my money. I’m not a big shopper, but I

love facials and spas and everything indulgent when it comes to the body and

pampering. I am a girly girl at heart.”

And while she loves her chocolate, Eva is quick to say that

she doesn’t mind paying the price as she works out at least five days a week to

maintain what she has.

“I put in a lot of time at the gym to ensure that I am able

to indulge at other times. Pleasure is pain.”

Well that’s nice to know. That and the fact that Eva

believes that women should learn to “ask for what they want in all areas of

their lives more than they currently do.”

“I want to encourage the world to inject more pleasure into

their lives and I think especially at this time in the world where it’s all

doom and gloom it’s a fantastic time to talk about pleasure and work out how to

get more pleasure into our lives.”

I couldn’t agree with her more. Why can’t we just

concentrate on the pleasures in life instead of all the drama? Makes for a less

stressful life. But don’t get it twisted. Despite advocating pleasure in all

its forms, Eva admits that being recognized for her talent rather than her

looks would generate more personal pleasure than anything else.

How’s that for a pleasurable alternative?

In Other Words…

* TLC’s Chili is coming back to the public eye via the power

of advertising. Billboard.biz reports the Grammy winner will help promote

Coca-Cola’s Dasani and Dasani Essence water brands through a series of radio,

print, digital and in-store ads. According to Dasani’s Vice President of

African-American marketing, Yolanda White, the campaign will target

African-American moms as African-American women are heavy purchasers of

packaged waters and that the new effort is about “invigorating women in a that

allows her to escape her daily challenges.”

In addition to the main brand, Dasani’s recently launched

Essence unsweetened, flavored waters will be highlighted in the Chili-featured

effort. The 38-year-old entertainer/single mom was chosen for the campaign

because she embodies the struggles and the balance “we see in our target

audience,” White said. “She gives reassurance to moms that you can still be a

great mom, take care of yourself and look beautiful.”

* Famed R&B group Frankie Beverly and Maze will be the

latest collective to be honored with a tribute CD. Media sources report that

the production will being this month for the project, which is being helmed by

Beverly’s son, Anthony and will highlight the vocalists four decades of

entertaining fans with a catalogue that includes 30 hit singles and 12 albums.

In addition to the album, a commemorative DVD will be included that will

feature interviews with those contributing to the album as well as current and

former music industry executives and community leaders who will weigh in on how

Beverly and Maze impacted the music industry and African American culture.

* Michael Jackson’s stuff is officially off the auction

block, thanks to a settlement reached between the iconic singer’s production

company and Julien’s Auction House. As part of the deal, Jackson has told

Julien’s Auction House to beat and gets away like a smooth criminal while

retaining the nearly 2,000 items that were slated to be auctioned off next

week.

Cost of organizing the sale: $2 million. Predicted revenue

generated by the auction items: $12 million. Cost of Michael (literally)

holding on to his past: Priceless.

Philly Rap Label Owner Ace Capone Gets Life In Prison

Ace Capone, the CEO of a Philadelphia-based Hip-Hop label was convicted under Pennsylvania’s “Kingpin” law and was sentenced to life in prison today.

Capone, born Alton Coles, was originally arrested and charged in August of 2005, accused of running a $25 million dollar drug ring in Philadelphia, Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland.

During his March 200 seven-week trial, prosecutors accused Cole and his cronies of moving over two tons of powdered cocaine and nearly a half-ton of crack between 1997 to 2005.

Prosecutors claimed Cole concealed his earnings through his businesses, which included a day care center, a water ice stand and Take Down Records, were fronts that helped mask his true source of earnings.

During his trial, prosecutors played a Take Down Records DVD titled New Jack City: The Next Generation which featured Ace Capone playing a drug kingpin involved in a brutal war for the city’s drug trade, along side artists on the label.

It was this DVD, along with the $500,000 in cash, 10 guns and 450 grams of cocaine found in his home in a suburb of Southern New Jersey.

“You never respect life, or the value of it, until it’s taken away,” Coles told Judge R. Barclay Surrick, who sentenced him to life plus 55 years.

“I never thought it would come to this,” said Coles in tears.

Coles was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, heading a continuing criminal enterprise that engaged in drug trafficking, conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering and weapons offenses.

Breeding Ground Spotlight: S. Fresh

Currently on his Southern City Tour, producer and CEO of So Slimm Entertainment, S. Fresh, is at the point in his career where his name should be a household name; coming to a pc screen near you.

The humble and conversational creative artist expressed a great deal of his character – it was indeed a great pleasure to speak with an artist who is deserving of said spotlight.

The Grambling State honor’s graduate launched his entertainment empire in 2000 with the hopes of being the silent boss however as fate would have it, he emerged from behind the desk to behind the m-i-c.

Besides pushing his hot single featuring Lil Boosie, “Ask Dem”, he is dropping the “Get It Out The Mud” Mixtape, which can be purchased online.

DigiWaxxMedia: So how did you get started? S. Fresh: Started out throwing parties and concerts.

From there I started my own label and began producing artists on the label. I then became an artist myself and started fulfilling dreams of mine, carrying out my goals and focusing on where I was headed. I had the passion and drive most artists didn’t have, so I’m just doing my own thing now.

DWM: So where are you from originally? SF: Shreveport, Louisiana. It’s outside of New Orleans.

DWM: Where do you currently reside?

SF: I’ve been in Dallas, Texas for 4 years but I’m rarely here. I travel a lot doing shows and networking a lot.

DWM: I hear the “Ask Dem” record is Buzzin in the streets? I Love you and Boosie together.

SF: Yeah, it started as a street record in the strip clubs. I made a remix w/ Lil Boosie which took it over the top. Then we filmed a Video and it was over!!!  We spinnin on like 20 different stations and the video was posted on a bunch of websites. Google me baby (Laughing)

DWM: So who are you influenced by? What musicians do you admire?

SF: Andre 3000, Kanye West, jay Z and Diddy

DWM: Ahhhh, those are men with REAL Swagger, aye?

SF: Yea, I feel I am on their level and can compete with them. I don’t want to only do music; I want to do other things as well.

DWM: So tell me about your album. How would you categorize it?

SF: It’s definitely Hip Hop of all types. It’s not that trap music though. It entertains you; party, feel good music. It’s also music for the ladies. Music with a message I am trying to get across.

DWM: You’re doing shows and all, where have you been and have you opened up for any big name acts?

SF: I’ve opened for Plies, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy and a few other people. I’m all over the place!. I Just came back from performing at the Southern Entertainment Awards in Mississippi. I just finished touring in Atlanta, Houston, Tennessee and I’m headed to Louisiana next. I’m doing a show with Young Jeezy on April 17th and then doing a show with Gucci Mane April 19th in Dallas. So I’m trying to KILL them this year.

DWM: Oh, that’s what’s up! Okay, so getting back to the album, who are some producers you’ve worked with?

P. Miller, Romeo, and Walmart Sponsor Living the Dream Telethon

Hip-Hop entrepreneur P. Miller and son Romeo have joined with Walmart to give financial support to the community-centered Living Dream Telethon.

Founded by social activists Ladell Beamon and Percy Townes, the Living the Dream Telethon focuses on bringing mainstream awareness to the poverty, crime, and subpar education of Memphis’ inner-city children.

Through his various contacts in entertainment and corporate America, Beamon has highlighted this year’s main goal as addressing the rising, alarming numbers in violent deaths of youths involved with drugs and gangs.

P. Miller knows about these realities firsthand through his upbringing in New Orleans, and now seeks to heal troubled communities across the country.

“This event changed my life; it made me realize that we must focus on the youth to make real change. And if we are to stop the violence in our communities, we must replace the guns with books,” P. Miller explained. “It’s time to educate our kids, get them off of the streets and give them some place to go. With all the community work that I’ve already done in my own hometown of New Orleans, this event made me realize that there is so much more work that needs to be done.”

To that end, Miller and Romeo have donated $50,000 to the Living the Dream telethon. Corporate giant Walmart followed up with a $10,000 donation.

With $60,000 to start, Miller remains optimistic that his former Hip-Hop colleagues and other corporations will sign on and create a nationwide, philanthropic movement.

“This is only the beginning,” he declared. “Hopefully, more celebrities, athletes, and corporations will join the movement. A friend of mine told me that if you want to make a difference, all you have to do is ‘Show up’. Our goal is to heal the hood by promoting peace and educating our community to decrease poverty and crime.”

Tech Gear: Right Gear Makes A Big Difference

On

the road, in the practice room, or in the studio, your

gear needs to arrive intact, and  to sound top-notch when you

get there. That means having quality travel products, especially when travel includes baggage

handlers who get their rocks off using your luggage to punt, pass and kick. Let’s take a look at some new gear from a couple of

cool companies and see how it stands up to the test.

Since

1976, TC Electronic

(www.tcelectronic.com) has been manufacturing first-class products designed for

audio professionals and musicians. From TC Helicon comes Voice Life 2, a

user-friendly, powerful floor processor that offers an array of effects. NaturalPlayTM

gives you up to eight harmony voices controlled from a guitar, MIDI keyboard or

MP3 player—ideal for vocalists who don’t play an instrument. Via stompbox or

preset foot switch, you can layer reverb, tap tempo delay, natural doubling,

T-Pain-like pitch shifting, distortion and megaphone effects and select from

over 250 presets. One-touch Tone controls compression, EQ and de-essing, and

the digitally controlled mic preamp allows singers to set mic gain while

standing. The bright, widescreen LCD makes it possible to view the screen from

that standing position. It’s also easily portable. VoiceLive 2 ships in May for

$995.

For

bass players, TC Electronic presents the RebelHead amp rig: RebelHead450 bass

head ($1395), RebelStack cabinets (210 – $695 and 212 – $845) and RebelControl

($195). TC calls this “a bass rig designed without compromise,” made for

rehearsals, studio and road.

The

450, with on-board tuner, has traditional tone controls, emulates all of the

characteristics of a traditional tube circuit, and offers the highest-quality

compression. The 450 features three on-board user memories, auto-sensing PSU

for safe plug-and-play in any country, an input socket for audio source

plug-in, and an output digital connection.

The

RebelHead450 is available as a standalone unit or combined with the RebelStack

cabinets. The RebelStack system was designed to optimize live performance

without compromising pitch or low end. The vertical four-driver stacking system

gives you both, along with easy portability.

As

another option, add the RebelControl remote control system, a floor controller

for RebelHead450, with a tuner indicator, three preset foot buttons to change

the three user memories, and a mute button. RebelControl is conveniently

powered from the amp and is a great addition to the system.

The

G-Major 2 is TC Electronics’ multi-effects processor for guitar ($695). G-Major

2 houses effects such as delays, reverbs and modulation, with all-new takes on

Tri-chorus, through-zero-flanger, modulated delays and Univibe. Controls

include Noise Gate, EQ and Compression blocks, as well as the all-new

filter/wah block, intelligent pitch shifting and reverse delay.

G-Major

2 allows users to change patches and presets through MIDI, or to use its stomp

box mode, enabling on/off switching of individual effects. The relay switching

option lets you switch amp channels directly, and in Serial Routing all blocks

are lined as a straight line of pedals. In Semi-Parallel, delay and reverb are placed in parallel, and in Parallel all

blocks except Compression and filter MOD blocks are placed in serial. G-Major 2

offers users easy and convenient editing and storing of patches and pre-sets

through a PC/Mac editor available at www.tcelectronic.com/G-major2.

If you’re going to haul all that gear around, you need a name you

can trust. Ultimate Support (www.ultimatesupport.com) has been in business for over 30

years. They bill themselves as “the Strength of Innovation,” and when you’re up

close and hands on with their products, it’s easy to see why. Ultimate Support

manufactures a very impressive selection of benches, stands, bags and cases so

rugged that they can probably even withstand baggage handlers. Perhaps it’s

time I start checking my essentials in an Ultimate Support case. These durable products look good and feel good, and best of all,

they’re surprisingly affordable. The X-Style JS-500 keyboard stand is $59.99,

the new double-braced X-Style JS-502D is $79.99, the JS-AS100 amp stand is

$89.99, the Z-Style JS-ZS100 keyboard stand is $119.99, and the new

multi-purpose JS-MPS1 mixer/keyboard stand is $129.99.

Me? I’m thinking that one of their kick-ass Hybrid Series cases

might be my next investment. Suitcases and duffels be damned; let’s see you

pummel this piece of checked luggage, Delta Airlines!
