Hip-Hop Stars And Their Sports Twin

“Me and the boy A.I. got more in common than just ballin and rhymin…” – Jay-Z, “Super Ugly”

There will be ballin’. There will be rivalries. There will be some swinging of the fists and there will be some showboating. This is not a rap concert…this is the National Basketball Association.

The relationship between rap and basketball has always been one that causes double-takes because of how similar the cast of characters is on each side.  The NBA has a Jay-Z, a Weezy, and a Yeezy. But you know them under their professional basketball names: Jordan, James and Kobe. In recognition of the 09-10 season, Hood Newz has compiled a list of basketball greats and found their bizzaro rap counterpart.  Correct me if we’re wrong , but…we’re not. Check it.

Kenyon Martin = The Game

Whether you like him or not, his erratic behavior is entertaining.

Richard Hamilton = Ludacris

People overlook this funny looking player, until he hits the shots that remind you he’s not be f**ked with.

Starks & Oakley = Rae and Ghost

Representatives of a gritty NY at it finest.

Michael Jordan = Jay-Z

When he came back wearing the 4-5, he didn’t to play games with you.

Mickael Pietrus = Hurricane Chris

People think he can’t play, but he’s a lot better than people think.

Ray Allen = Nas

This fan fave is one of  “the” five best shooters in history…and still hitting it when it counts.

Stockton/Malone = EPMD

One legend needed the other to keep that consistency going for so long.

Stephon Marbury = DMX

One of these dominating figures of the late 90’s has gone completely bonkers at the expense of his career.  Guess which one?

Robert Horry = Fat Joe

A veteran who, whether you like him or not, delivers a hit when it counts.

Chicago Bulls 90’s = Roc-A-Fella

…witness a dynasty like no other.

Tony Parker = Lupe Fiasco

A very good player who came in under a championship team and has kept it consistent ever since.

Allen Iverson = Cam’Ron

If he could just adjust his style to go with his potential, he would be hands down one of the greatest.

Carmelo Anthony = T.I.

He’s one of the best players in the game today, but the other two best guys prohibit him from being hands down THE best.

Larry Bird = Eminem

Dominant white guy in a field dominated by bros..

Ron Artest = Beanie Segal

Great team asset with a short temper and questionable outside activities.

Lebron James = Lil Wayne

Overexposed, exceptional at what he does and the fans love it.

Chris Paul = Drake

Potential to be one of the future greats.

N.W.A = Detroit Bad Boys 1989

A talented bunch of  *****z with attitude.

Charles Barkley = Ice Cube

A legend who never asked to be liked.

Tim Duncan = Fabolous

Extremely effective, but over looked due to lack of s####.

Sam Booey = Canibus

A bust of the highest magnitude.

Chauncey Billups = Young Jeezy

Consistent all around threat who’s overlooked, yet is one of the 3 best in his position.

The Dream Team = Death Row Records

Hard to believe that at one point in time, some of the greatest ever were on one team during the prime of their career.

Rasheed Wallace = Mobb Deep

Rugged, consistent contributor to the game entering the twilight of a great career.

Stephen Jackson = Young buck

Nuff said!!

50 Cent = Shaq O’Neil

Dominant player who changed the game and refuses to call it quits despite being criticized as  past his prime.

Big L= Len Bias

Great potential gone before it could blossom into franchise player. By 1995 both Jay-Z (MJ) and Big L (Bias) made an appearance in New York’s 89.9 and performed a classic freestyle that left audiences believing that not only that these two would go on towards greatness, but that Big L would be eventually flourish into a franchise player able to take his team (DITC) to the promise land.

Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley = Red & Meth

Well respected contributors to their respective units who’d prefer to play with each other than with other players.

Kobe Bryant = Kanye West

Like Kobe, Kanye came off the bench of a dynasty and worked his way up.

Like Kobe, Kanye delivered 3 back to back rings in the form of 3 platinum plus classic albums.

Like Kobe, his 4th ring was a breeze in a climate where he was left unchallenged.

Like Kobe, Kanye’s confidence in his abilities combined with his work ethic make him the one to beat in his field.

Like Kobe, he has managed to leave his peers in the dust with A-level performance in all categories.

Like Kobe, we hate to see him win, but he earns it.

Like Kobe, Jordan purists refuse to acknowledge that he may be the best in this era.

Extra tidbit: Since his arrival in 2004, Kanye West has scored 28 hits on billboards rythmatic airplay charts. Wests’ total matches Lil Wayne [Lebron] for the most hits in that span and ties 50 Cent [Shaq] and Jay-Z [Jordan] for third most appearances this decade.

Dr.Jay = Rakim

Considered the greatest, before others were.

Dikembe Mutombo = Busta Rhyme

Entertaining to watch, but waaay past his prime on the court.

Hakeem Olajuwon = KRS-ONE

People tend to forget how really good he was.

Kareem = LL Cool J

One of the greatest of all time…with decent movie parts

Phil Jackson = Dr.Dre

Decent player, excellent coach helping keep LA relevant.

Bernard King = Big Daddy Kane

King was knocking down 55 points before MJ made it nothing.

Tracy McGrady = Juelz

The most talented underachiever in the game.

Shawn Kemp = Lloyd Banks

Signs of greatness, swept away overnight.

Jason Williams = Alchemist

Caucasian contributor with soul, not be f**ked with.

GAME REVIEW: GTA IV – The Ballad Of Gay Tony

Developer/Publisher: Rockstar Games

Platform: XBOX 360

Players: 1 – 16 (Online)

Rating: A++

The world of GTA IV has provided gamers an over the top, fast and furious ride through the underworld of the fictional Liberty City. Our first protagonist Niko Bellic gave us a tremendous introduction to this metropolis through the eyes of an immigrant transplant. On The Lost & Damned, bike gang member Johnny Klebitz showed a different side of this immense crime ridden saga.

Now Grand Theft Auto IV gets its closing chapter with the stellar The Ballad Of Gay Tony (Rockstar). Like the first episode, you’ll need a copy of GTA IV to play the downloadable version of Gay Tony. Those who don’t have the original disc, you can buy Episodes From Liberty City and your two episode hunt is over.

TBOGT stars Luis Lopez. An all too familiar face to the series, Lopez is the partner of infamous nightclub impresario “Gay” Tony Prince. In this installment we get a different view of the city as the nightlife capital. Therefore you get to do missions for some of the most powerful which takes the action to insane heights. Now possible are missions on top moving trains, inside airplanes, throwing people off roofs, and wild shootouts in the sky.

On a broader scope, helicopters and armored trucks play a bigger role in this episode. In what stands to be the biggest bonus are the new weapons. In all previous incarnations of the GTA series, the only way to take out any airborne hostility was with the trusty rocket launcher. Now with a shotgun with explosive shells, you can pretty much take out anything on with much ease. Also the sticky bombs add more diabolical fun to free roam or multi-player.

While there are no new parts of the city to explore, TBOGT provides gamers with new features to freshen the scenery up. Drug Wars is a new set of side missions where Luis teams up with his pals Armando and Henrique to rob stashes from rival dealers. In an interesting twist, base jumping has been also added the extracurricular activities.

The goal is to jump off buildings and parachute safely to the targeted drop zone. Another much welcomed addition is the option to replay story missions. Missions are now scored depending on time, kills and more leading even more of an online competitive spirit.

All in all The Ballad Of Gay Tony is one of the most fun games you will play all year. This episode takes Grand Theft Auto IV to even crazier heights with gold plated submachine guns, drive-by shootings from Bentleys, and more. We can’t imagine what Rockstar will come up with next.

Exclusive: Dolla’s Mom Speaks; Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty For Murder

The family of slain rapper Dolla will celebrate his 22nd birthday today (November 25th) with the release of a brand new mixtape titled The Miseducation of Dolla.

Dollar, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, was gunned down in front of the Beverly Center on May 18th 2009.

Just hours after the shooting, police arrested Aubrey Louis Berry, 23, as he attempted to flee California via a flight from Los Angeles Airport, back to his hometown of Atlanta.

“Just a few hours before the incident, I spoke to my son and he was on his way home catching a flight out. I stay close to the airport, so he used to stop by,” Dolla’s mother Dawnee Robinson exclusively told AllHipHop.com. “He told me what he wanted for dinner. He wanted some yellow rice, cabbage and chicken wings. So I went to the store and made sure I had everything. So when I got the call, I was cooking his dinner.”

While numerous reports have made references to Dolla’s alleged ties to the Crips street gang, Dolla’s mother denied those claims and said her son was simply into Hip-Hop music.

“He’s always been inquisitive and ambitious and wanted to know everything about everything,” Ms. Robinson told AllHipHop.com. “[He] read everything in sight. Asked a lot of questions and he’s always been, you know just a light. I’m so blessed Allah chose me to be his mother.”

While Dolla’s music may have reflected the street life, his mother claimed he was an aspiring rapper who was trying to fulfill his dreams through music and modeling, when he was murdered in cold blood.

“My son was always working, always in the studio,” Robinson revealed. “He spent a lot of time at home with us when he wasn’t on the road. So you know, whatever caused this person to murder my son, I’m still in total disbelief and can’t understand what would, provoke anyone to do something like,” an upset Robinson stated.

Dolla started rapping at the age of 11 and after a short lived deal with Dreamworks, he was signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzic record label in 2007.

Akon made a cameo appearance on Dolla’s biggest single “Who the F**k is That,” which also featured Florida producer/rapper T-Pain.

The rapper was in Los Angeles recording material for his debut album for the label, when he was shot and killed near the V.I.P.valet parking area of the Beverly Center.

“He was finishing his album and mixing his mixtape. It was also his girlfriend’s 23rd birthday that lived in Los Angeles, but she goes to school at Clark [Clark-Atlanta University]. So he was killing three birds with one stone. Mixing, finishing up his music and enjoying her birthday weekend. So that’s why he was there.”

Aubrey Louis Berry, 23, is charged with murder and assault. He claimed that he acted out of self defense after Dolla and his crew threatened him in the Beverly Center.

The former promoter from Atlanta is being held on $2 million dollars bail for his role in the murder and has pled not guilty to the charge.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Berry for the murder of Dolla.

While Dolla’s mother expressed grief over the fact the two young men had lost their lives, she did state that she wanted to see justice pursued to the full extent of the law.

“Hey, all I know is that is not OK to go around shooting and killing people,” Robinson told AllHipHop.com. “That’s not what I believe in. That’s not what my son believed in and I feel that anyone who is so bold to take another life, for no apparent reason, I feel that they should be prosecuted with full extent of the law and that’s how I feel.”

Dolla’s new mixtape The Miseducation of Dolla hit the internet today, along with two previously unreleased tracks, “Ghetto Prayer” featuring J. Valentine and “Gonna Be Alright

“His legacy is a great one,” Robinson stated. “I believe that you know in due time you know Bu [Akon’s brother/business partner], Akon and Damian Jackson, Dolla’s manager and mentor will make the step t put things out really soon. The mixtape came out today on his birthday as a free download. We just want him to heard.”

Style Profile Interview: NY Jets’ Thomas Jones

Thomas Jones continues an illustrious career in the NFL, currently as a running back for the New York Jets.

The 31 year-old Virginia native has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and experienced a Super Bowl in 2006 with the Chicago Bears.

Thomas Jones

Thomas’ younger brother, Julius Jones, is also in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. After their parents spent a combined 20 years working in dangerous coal mines while raising seven children, they must be very proud of their two sons.

It may sound like humble beginnings, but Thomas credits his parents’ hard work and motivation for getting him and his siblings to where they are now.

Like his six siblings, Thomas went to college, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

As much as he is known for being a pro athlete, we’ve also seen Thomas grace the gossip blogs many times as the beautiful Meagan Good‘s boyfriend (click under the jump for our exclusive interview with Jones).

These two have been spotted around town at various events and parties arm in arm.

Kiki recently got a chance learn more about the football star, including what fashion means to him – from his favorite brands to who he considers a fashion icon and exactly what makes a woman stylish.

DrJays.com: What’s it like having your younger brother Julius also playing in the NFL? Are you guys very competitive?

Thomas: “I love having him in the NFL with me. We share a special bond, and it’s nice to have someone so close to you go through the same things. We always make sure to talk before every game to wish each other good luck, and find out what’s going on in each other’s life.

“As far as being competitive, we are not at all. If anything, I would rather him have a better game than me. That’s my little brother. Julius and his wife actually just had his second child, a baby boy. So in that aspect my little brother is ahead of me. I am very excited for him, and being an uncle is a great thing.”

Julius Jones

DrJays.com: What was it like playing in the 2006 Super Bowl with the Chicago Bears?

Thomas: “It was an amazing feeling, one that can’t be put it into words. As a kid, being in the Super Bowl was something I always dreamed about, so actually getting to fulfill that dream is an amazing feeling. That’s something I’ll never forget.”

DrJays.com: Having been with the NY Jets for the past couple of years, do you feel the “Big Apple” lifestyle has influenced your fashion sense?

Thomas: “I’ve always been on top of new clothing styles, so New York didn’t really influence me. New York did make it easier for me to purchase the more exclusive brands though.”

DrJays.com: We’ve seen you go from a plain white tee with Nike sneakers to a dapper suit. Do you prefer dressing in formal gear or keeping it casual?

Thomas: “I like being casual and comfortable. Don’t get me wrong, wearing a nice suit is always fun and I enjoy it when the time calls for it. I’m a huge fan ofDolce & Gabbana, everything from their great fitting button-ups to their cologne, but usually you can find me wearing a white v-neck t-shirt, a hoodie and jeans. Some of my favorite brands are BAPE, Timberland, Red Monkey Jeans, Crooks & Castles, Billionaire Boys Club, Ciano Jeans (they fit great), Prada (hi-top sneakers), True Religion and Rock & Republic.”

Thomas in one of DrJays.com’s favorite brands, Crooks & Castles

DrJays.com: When it comes to ladies, what makes a lady stylish to you?

Thomas: “Shoes are very important to me. I am a huge fan of a girl who can wear a white t-shirt, jeans and stylish shoes with pretty toes. Growing up with five sisters has a lot to do with this! My sisters and my mother are stylish women and taught me all about shoes, more than I would like to know sometimes (laughs). I like stilettos and in terms of casual, I think those Louis Vuitton and Gucci sneakers are cool too.

“Beyond shoes, I like a girl that can switch her style up. Outfits don’t always have to be name brand. A woman that can go into a thrift store and come out with a dope outfit is also attractive.”

DrJays.com: Do you enjoy fashion? Have you been more into it since you started your career with the NFL or do you now have a stylist to take care of that? Or perhaps a girlfriend…

Thomas: “I’ve always been interested in fashion. Since I was a kid, I always watched music videos, interview and movies, analyzing the fashion involved. If I liked something, I would research the price and where I could find it. Since I have always been into creating my own style, I shop by myself. Having the opportunity to play in the NFL has been a blessing and has put me in a financial position that allows me to purchase higher-end clothing.

“I think style is something you have to create for yourself, which is something I have worked very hard to achieve. I am not afraid to wear color, it fits my personality and I like to experiment with different designers and brands”.

DrJays.com: How do you feel about menswear going slimmer and cleaner in recent years? Do you still prefer your gear baggy?

Thomas: “I don’t like baggy. As a CEO of a record label [Outta Pocket Entertainment], I can’t be seen as a sloppy dresser and I associate baggy with sloppy. I enjoy fitted, but not too tight. It gives off a classy look”.

DrJays.com: Who do you consider a style icon?

Thomas: T.I. I think he does a good job of mixing his style up.

T.I.

“A lot of cats think that you can’t get respect with hoodie and jeans. T.I. does a good job of alternating styles between urban, casual and classy. It also presents a lot of opportunities in a professional and social environment.”

DrJays.com: Can you give our male readers a few tips for looking right at all times?

Thomas: “Never come out with something wrinkled on. It takes five minutes to iron a shirt or jacket. I think wrinkled clothes looks careless. I think you can wear a lot of things and as long as it looks clean it’s stylish and crisp.

“I also think men need to realize that you can mix high-end designer clothes with average brand name clothes. If you are decked out in too much of one designer you run the risk of looking like luggage”.

DrJays.com: Tell us something interesting that your fans may not know about you?

Thomas: “I never throw anything away; especially clothes and shoes. I’m very sentimental and always like to keep things around. You never know when it could be helpful. I do give clothes away, but I keep a lot. My family actually gives me a lot of heat for it. I pay for the extra storage just for my clothes!”

Check out DrJays.com and DJPremium.com to cop your own gear from some of Thomas’ favorite brands, like Crooks & Castles, Red Monkey, True Religion, Timberland and even Dolce & Gabbana cologne!

Lil Boosie: “I Need Some Rehab. Jail Is Not Rehab.”

After initially stating his forthcoming prison sentence would be beneficial to his career, Louisiana emcee Lil’ Boosie is now remorseful and saddened about the term that will keep him behind bars for an estimated two years.

Boosie, real name Torrence Hatch, was originally convicted of a third offense for marijuana possession.

The jail term was then exacerbated when Boosie violated his house arrest order to complete two concert dates.

According to Boosie, his sentencing was based on his rap persona over his actual behavior, which was simply to provide support for his 7 children and another still to be born.

Also, the rapper had been sued before for not fulfilling show dates, and wanted to prevent any further legal complications before going to prison.

“They’re treating me on who they think I am. They judging me on Boosie Bad Azz, not Torrence Hatch,” Boosie stated to Louisiana’s WAFB channel 9. “I had to do these two shows these last two days to feed my family.”

Aside from the marijuana convictions, Boosie has previous arrests on battery, weapons charges, and attempted bribery of a police officer.

This contentious history with the law is something Boosie admits is the result of his own reckless decisions.

“I blame it on myself, because things I did I wanted to. Trouble is easy to get into, but it’s hard to get out. I won’t be able to see my child born, yeah that hurts,” he stated.

Although the marijuana conviction is his third, the 26 year old struggles to understand why his sentencing was so harsh after revealing he has an addiction.

“If I made a mistake with marijuana, why am I not eligible for rehab?” Boosie questioned. “I’ve been on marijuana since a teenager. I need some rehab. Jail is not rehab.”

For his young fans, the reflective young rapper offered education as the main tool to stay away from the street life that encompasses his art.

“School is the first thing, once you stay in school and make up your mind you want to be somebody, the negatives will go away,” he explained. “And stay away from the negative people.

At press time, Lil Boosie is in custody at Winn Correctional Center in Louisiana, and serving his two year sentence. Following its completion, he will be required to finish 5 years of probation.

You heard it here first, my friends. Tell ’em illseed told you! As you already know, there have been rumors that Nas was supposed to be on the original version, which is a very loose ode to his “New York State of Mind.” From various interviews, we’ve noticed that Nas has eluded the notion that he was unavailable for the original. I suppose this matters not at this point. All that matters is that  FANS ARE IN FOR A TREAT!

One of my readers hit me with this picture of Keyshia Cole and said she looked like she was preggy preg. I looked at it and couldn’t make a determination. Well, she was in Cleveland and Bossip is saying she appears to be far into her pregnancy. NICE!

LLOYD P##### PEOPLE OFF?

Singer Lloyd was down in Australia I heard at the Gold Coast on the 21st of November. , The people that hit me up said that Lloyd acted like a “d**k.” They said homey didn’t want to perform because there weren’t enough Black people in the crowd. First, I didn’t know Lloyd was a Black militant and secondly, I can be called ignorant, but I didn’t even know he was Black. He looks Middle Eastern or Caribbean or something. I could be wrong and if I am, sorry! Nevertheless, the Black people that were there emailed me and said, “this is Australia not New Orleans.” Anyway, he got on stage at 1 am  – they say – and performed some “skits” and said he needed some Black girls. They said he wanted some sort of groupie love, but girls don’t get down like that unless it’s a Jay-Z or a 50 Cent.

The Real Reason For Hip-Hop’s Declining Sales :The Death of Music Retail

Editor’s note: The

views expressed inside this editorial aren’t necessarily the views of

AllHipHop.com or its employees.Hip-Hop, there is a need for me to be serious and state some facts that may encourage you to do things a little differently.

At a very rapid pace, music retail is dying.  There are many reasons for this and we have our opinions on where to point the fingers.   Right now that is not important.  However, it is very important for you to know what genre of music this death will affect first.

Hip Hop is probably the most influential type of music there is.  It has more than put its stamp on pop culture.  But that is not good enough, because it is getting harder to find your favorite new hip hop disc in stores.  Here are a few examples of what is happening to Hip Hop.

    * Last week, Wale came out to a harsh reality.  He thought he was hot, but some non traditional music retailers thought he was not and therefore bought very little to absolutely none of his debut cd.  Fans relied on twitter to point them in the direction of the nearest music store to find Attention Deficit. (#attentiondeficit)

    * A couple of weeks ago, Rick Ross’s group Triple C’s came out and sold a little over 12,000 copies.  About 70% of these were sold at traditional/independent music stores.

    * After calling three Mass Merchants inside the city of Atlanta, none of them had the newest Lil’ Boosie Cd.  It was released on September 15, 2009.  They pull you off the shelf pretty fast there huh?  (While on that call a customer asked for the Wale CD, I told the employee to send him to the West End.  She relayed the message and said…”We never got that CD.”)

    * Then I decided to go on a hunt for an underground artist.  Brooklyn MC Skyzoo’s debut release “The Salvation” was only available at 1 Mass Merchant out side the city of Atlanta.  But they could not locate the disc in the store.

It is very important for me to say that this is not a shot at any store, record label, or artist.  This is the harsh reality of the situation you may be in if you are a hip hop artist.  And it is even more unforgiving if you are a hip hop fan.

70-80% of hip hop music is sold physically in stores and not digitally online.  Where does that leave the artist with the major record deal if there is no music store and one mass merchant?  Where does that leave the artist that just needs distribution if there is no music store and one mass merchant?  Last but certainly not least, where does that leave the fan that just wants to go to the store and find their favorite new Hip-Hop CD?

I do believe that things will change one day.  Change is inevitable.  However as we wait for change to take place, Hip Hop will suffer.  The real question is will it be able to survive?

AllHipHop ChartWatch: 50 Cent’s Numbers Are IN! Bill Cosby Competes With Birdman!

AllHipHop ChartWatch for November 25, 2009

The moment of truth is here for 50 Cent. He got a favorable review in AllHipHop’s review section, but all eyes are on the SoundScan right now.

The Top 10 doesn’t have a lot of Hip-Hop on it but we do have a new entry.  Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson enters the charts at in the fifth slot with his latest album Before I Self Destruct.  The

queens MC managed to sell about 160,000 copies of his fourth disc which, to date, is

the lowest sales the rapper has produced.

The reviews for the album have been mixed but I will say that the movie

that comes with it is not bad.  In fact

it’s pretty good.  50 has already come

forward and said that the album leaked from an international plant which is not

hard to believe.  The album was

everywhere…but is that the reason for the low sales?  What do ya’ll think?  Nevertheless, this is a hater’s wet dream! The next question is how does an MC that has

always spent a lot of time focusing on numbers (especially the numbers of

rappers he doesn’t like) deal with the fact that his latest album hasn’t put up

good numbers.  I hope its go back to the

studio (hungry) and put out another album.

We’ll see.

up are the Black Eyed Peas who sell 32,000 copies of The E.N.D and grab the 27th  They are followed by Jay-Z and his eleventh

studio album The Blueprint 3.  The disc takes the 32nd spot

selling 29,000 copies. spot.

That’s

it for the week so onto the new albums.

Dropping

This Week

First up

this week is Birdman.  Now you know that

he’s not the best rapper.  You know

it.  I know it.  Hell, he knows it.  He does, however, know how to put together an

album with a lot of good rappers.  His

new album Pricele$$ features Drake,

Lil Wayne, Gudda Gudda, T-Pain, Bun-B, Mack Maine, Gucci Mayne, Flo Rida, Rick

Ross, Lil Kim, and Nikki Minaj.  Some of those

guests are on the bonus edition of the cd so look out for that one.  Hey, he got Nikki and Kim on a song together…I

wonder what that song will be about?

This is pretty much a compilation album so if you like Young Money you’ll

probably want to check this one out.

The next “artist” has (somehow)

become a controversial figure in Hip Hop.

Every time he says something it’s sure to get a lot of commentary in

chat rooms, message boards, barber shops, beauty salons, and dorm rooms across

the country.   That’s right.

The one and only dangerous MC.

Bill Cosby.  Ok, he’s not an MC…but

he is coming out with an album.  Bill Cosby

Presents the Cosnarati: State of Emergency

is the comedian/activist’s latest venture to reach the Hip Hop community.  It features three rappers, Jace the Great, Brother Hahz and Supa Nova Slom,

with production by Ced-Gee of the Ultramagnetic MC’s and William

Patterson.  You might not know Patterson

but you know his music.  The producer had

done work on everything from the Cosby show to albums by Alicia Keys and LL

Cool J.  I respect what Cosby is trying

to do but I do know one thing – The music better be good.  Positive…negative…in between…no one listens

unless it’s good.  People listen to Talib

Kweli and 50 Cent for one reason – they like the music.  If the music is not good the point will never

get across.  We’ll see if Bill gets his

point out.

The Boot

Camp Clik is releasing is releasing Triple

Threat which is essentially a collection of the three discs: Sean Price’s Monkey Barz, 9th Wonder &

Buckshot’s Chemistry, and Smif N

Wessun’s Reloaded.  All three of the albums have received some

decent reviews and have been out for awhile.

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to any of them then now’s your

chance because all three are being sold for the price of one.

Pittsburgh

MC Wiz Khalifa has left Warner Bros. and is now releasing his second album Deal or No Deal.  The album only has a few features so for the

most part it’s an “all Khalifa” affair.  Fans

of his first album Show and Prove

should be looking out for this one.

Who owns Death

Row Records now?  Seems like every week

they are changing owners.  Either way the

label is putting out a four disc box set that features artists from the label’s

beginning, like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, to its most recent, including Crooked I

and Petey Pablo. (Ya’ll forgot Petey Pablo was on Tha Row, huh?).  The set also has a DVD as well as unreleased

material from Death Row artists.

That’s it

for this week.  Pick up and album or

two—-you know what?  Pick up four.  An album or four.  Get someone up on these charts.

40 Glocc, Lil Boo Reply To Plies’ Diss With ‘Return to Sender’

West Coast rapper 40 Glocc and Lil Boo have released a reply to Plies’ diss record “Letter to the Industry,” in the latest round of Hip-Hop beef.

The pair dropped the track “Return to Sender” today (November 24th), in reply to Plies‘ “Letter.”

At the end of “Return to Sender,” the rappers sample a clip of a December 2008 interview conducted with an elderly woman who claimed she was Plies’ grandmother.

The woman speaks about Plies rap career which, she claims is a fraud.

“I just want to let yall know I did not give him that name, I don’t know where he got that name from,” the elderly woman says at the end of the track. “He aint got no stripes in the streets, he never, ever lived that life, that was his brother.”

Earlier this month, Plies released three songs: “Awesome,” “Chirpin’” and “Letter to the Industry,” which addressed a number of topics, including his beef with other rappers.

Plies became the subject of jokes during an October episode of Jamie Foxx’s “Foxx Hole Radio Show” on Sirius Satellite Radio.

The comedian revealed that he mediated a dispute between Plies entourage and members of 40 Glocc’s, crew who appeared on a video set to test Plies‘ street credibility.

Foxx took jabs at Plies and his entourage, who allegedly ran for cover when approached by 40 Glocc and his Zoo Life associates on the set, prompting Plies’ song “Letter.”

“Return to Sender” is taken from 40 Glocc and Zoo Life’s upcoming album Concrete Jungle, which will be available for downloads in the iTunes store on December 8th.

The physical CD will be available in January of 2010.
