Hip-Hop Activist Erica Ford, Al Sharpton Lead ‘Day of Outrage’

Hip-Hop activist Erica Ford, CEO and founder of Life Camp Inc., is teaming with the Reverend Al Sharpton to lead an emergency day of protest against violence across the country, on November 23rd.

Sharpton will lead a rally in Atlanta Georgia while other rallies are scheduled to take place in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The coalition was organized by NAN and will include families of victims of gun violence, activists, elected officials and concern citizens.

Ford, Sharpton and the National Action Network (NAN) and community leaders from across the country will lead the “National Day of Outrage” on November 23rd, in a number of U.S. cities.

“We must be just as vigilant against the shootings that are random, gang related or intentional because we are in a crisis state and too many lives are being forsaken. We’ve got to come together across all lines to fight this battle,” Reverend Al Sharpton told AllHipHop.com in a statement.

Erica Ford, who runs the “Bury Da Beef” program in New York, has worked with rappers like Tupac Shakur, Ja Rule, KRS-One and many others.

Ford is helping to organize the “Day of Outrage” in New York.

“It takes a village to save a child,” Ford said. “The strength that breathes inside of us beats the madness of society. We achieve great success when we don’t accept all the habits as normal behavior. Love your life.”

Other cities participating in Sharpton’s “National Day of Outrage” include Houston Texas, Cleveland Ohio, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Boston Massachusetts, Syracuse New York, Savannah Georgia, Eunice Louisiana, Greensboro North Carolina and Los Angeles California.

All events start at 2:00pm Eastern Standard Time. For information and rally details in your local area visit www.nationalactionnetwork.net

Hip-Hop Rumors: More On Tupac Sex Tape, Signs World Is Coming To An End

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

THE DAILY TWO SENSE

OK. I have been forced to get a copy editor. After years of typos and typos, it has been imposed on me! It came from the bosses, the people and strangers! So, if the rumors are updated slower than usual, NOW YOU KNOW! You complained my way into having an editor! On to the rumors, but bear with me…this is going to take some getting used to!Also, read Chance’s rumors from yesterday!

KID CUDI CUT?

I don’t know a lot about what Kid Cudi is or isn’t up to, but from what I was told earlier this year, he landed a role on an HBO show that could take him into super-stardom. The only thing is, we’re trying to decide if he’s still on it. The show is “How to Make it in America” and Cudi was supposed to be on it in a starring role. The only thing is, nobody that saw the previews, saw Cudi! I think he’s probably still on, but just not in the same capacity as we originally thought.

TUPAC SEX TAPE!

Now, I don’t know what is going on with this part of the game, but yesterday Chance had a rumor that stated the late, great Tupac had a sex tape. Now, the crazy part of this rumor is that Treach reportedly said HE filmed the actual sex tape, which validates that it exists! So, I took it just a lil bit farther and located the tape. Here you go!

RIHANNA GOT HIT UP AGAIN?

Some folks are suggesting that Rihanna has been attacked again. I don’t think so, but look at this:

SAMMY SAID THIS?

Did Sammie Sosa really say this BS?

“It’s a bleaching cream that I apply before going to bed and (it) whitens my skin some. It’s a cream that I have, that I use to soften [my skin], but has bleached me some. I’m not a racist, I live my life happily.” Sammy would not name the cream divulging only that it came from Europe and that, “I’m going to market it, I’m a businessman.”

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

I am hearing that Big Cat Records has signed Pretty Ricky. This is Gucci Mane’s original home.

Amy Winehouse is reportedly considering butt implants to go with her new breasts.

Kanye and Amber Rose seem to have a thing for matching their kicks. I saw it on our recent fashion story and also, in a new picture of them.

Oops! Did I say located the tape? I meant located the footage of Trigga Treach talking about the sex tape. I wouldn’t want to see that anyway.

Reality shows are the new record deal. I heard Fab has a show coming up…wow!

I hope everybody realizes that a 50 Cent/Jay battle is not going to happen…again.

I am mad that Snoop Dogg went on Wall Street on Monday and rang The Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange…while throwing up gang signs.

Rumor has it Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom are already staring at divorce. Dude just recently stated that he wanted to have a baby with the girl! Make up your rumor….I mean mind!

If you heard Kanye and Amber got married, you heard wrong.

THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT HAPPENED TO CHRIS BROWN AND RIHANNA!

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

I’m sure you haven’t forgotten poor Derrion Albert, have you? This is the 16-year-old honor roll student that was brutally killed on the streets of Chicago. The act was caught  on a cell phone camera. Well, it seems tragedy has struck Chicago again. Chicago Board of Education President Michael Scott has allegedly killed himself. Right now, there is no clear indication why he killed himself. Some are saying that Scott was under incredible amounts of pressure to change the streets of Chicago from the community and the White House. I’m not quite sure how this would fall on this dude’s shoulders. Well, Scott killed himself. He put a bullet in his brain. Those kids involved in the death of Derrion Albert acted the way they did for reasons that probably didn’t have anything to do with the Board of Education.

Wale Reflects on New Album’s Success, His Market Position & Solange

Even with the rave reviews for his debut album Attention Deficit, Washington D.C. emcee Wale is still hungry to make a bigger impact on mainstream Hip-Hop

In a recent interview with honeymag.com, Wale explained that despite Attention Deficit being released on Interscope, his major label understood his success would be gradually built from the bottom up and not reflected in huge first week numbers.

“This is my biography. It’s honest. Raw emotion. It’s close to me,” Wale detailed. “That’s why part of me will be a little offended if it doesn’t get heard. I don’t want people to take lack of sales as me taking a hit. This is something different. My label is letting me put out an album with a single that released seven months ago. We’re not going for first week sales. We only shipping out 30,000 of them. We’re going for that grind. We’re showing people that you can build a fanbase the old fashioned way.”

Even with those appreciative words to his label, Wale is aware that all major labels require major returns. A considerable amount of mainstream albums are marketed to females, a reality the D.C. native believes has stifled creativity and caused that audience to miss out on his unique sound and perspective.

“I think people try too hard to market to females. They insult their intelligence. I feel like there are going to be a lot of females who miss out on some great music on my album just because I wasn’t a huge radio artist,” Wale added.

Although he’s received cosigns from superstar Jay-Z and collaborated with established veterans like Bun B, Wale still feels his mainstream acceptance has yet to reach the impact of his fellow freshman standouts Kid Cudi and Drake.

Still, he remains proud that he’s persevered without direct superstar assistance.

“I got work to do before I even catch up to Cudi and Drake. They’ve progressed a little bit quicker than I have,” he confessed. “I worked twice as hard because I wasn’t fortunate enough to be under a successful rapper to inherit some of their fan base. I had to work for it all and my city had to hold me down.”

As with many celebrities, fans have now begun to focus on Wale’s personal life. For the past several months, fans have speculated regarding his alleged relationship with Solange Knowles.

On the issue, the young emcee was surprisingly candid regarding his feelings for her.

“I do love her. We’re friends. She’s amazing. She’s a good person,” he reflected. “Any single mother contributing to society the way she does – I got a lot of love for them. She’s got to do a lot on her own and raise a young black man in this day and age so my hat goes off to her. She’s definitely an anomaly. And the way she can do that and manage to do the same things that I complain about having to do.”

Wale’s Attention Deficit is available in stores now.

Has 50 Cent Gone Too Far With Rick Ross’ Kid’s “Family Day”

Editor’s note: There has been some confusion with one writer’s stance and the position of a company. The views expressed inside this editorial aren’t necessarily the views of AllHipHop.com or its employees.“I have less compassion than the average human.” – 50 Cent

Allow me to speak in the third person.

Good Guy has kids.

Good Guy has a lady.

Good Guy loves kids.

Good Guy has some issues with his lady.

With that said, I am a fan of 50 Cent and his accomplishments, but I can’t march down this path with him.

For those of you that haven’t been on the internet for the last day or so, 50 Cent took an excursion to Las Vegas and had Rick Ross’ baby mom Tia and her kids in tow. (Ross has one son with Tia.)  If you did a double take, don’t be surprised. I did too. I was sure that after 50’s son appeared photoshopped on the monkey body earlier this year all, parties agreed that the kids were off limits.

Not the case apparently. So, I present to you Exhibit A:

video platform

video management

video solutions

free video player

If you were able to watch the video above, you just saw 50 Cent at Floyd Mayweather’s Las Vegas Mansion. Visitors in the mansion included F. Gary Gray, the acclaimed filmmaker, and mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, along with 50 Cent and Tia’s kiddie entourage. 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather have beef with Rick Ross so they had no problem getting grimy in pursuit hurting Rick Ross through his child. Only Diddy seems to be uncomfortable with this overt act. The Bad Boy shuffles from room to room dodging the unavoidable cameras.

Let me state, this is wrong. I know all is fair in love and war, but this is wrong, even for 50 Cent’s standards. (Remember we were asking “Has 50 Cent gone too far?” earlier this year?) It was one thing when it was a lyrical display between Ross and Fif and there was humor mixed in, but these kids don’t even know that they are mere disposable pawns in a war of men. This is despicable and I am ashamed to admit that I am fans of both men.

Men are not the only culpable ones here.

Tia Kemp, who is the mother of Ross’ son, has proven herself to be a harlot-scorned ways we may never know. But, even worse, she is now putting her kids (and herself) in harms way. I have to question any mother than puts her lust for revenge over the welfare of her kids. I know she’s a bird, but even the nastiest birds want to shield heir kids from harm…right?

Eh. In the video, 50 Cent and Floyd pose for pictures flaunting their money (stacks and stacks), their expensive cars and their celebrity, all of which eclipses Ross’ hood super stardom. It is an amazing display of infantile behavior from all parties.

Now, I am not stupid, this is promotion for Before I Self Destruct, but what are the ramifications and aftermath?

Does a shooter catch 50 Cent out there in a few years when his buzz dies down a bit?

I present, Exhibit B:

As a father, I am concerned for 50 Cent’s son, Marquis. He had dreams and aspirations too. I am sure that he’s got security now, but what happens when he wants to go into the world as a man, as a rap producer (seen in Exhibit B)?

At the end of the day, I hope Rick Ross has the state of mind to chill and let these folks run around and do what they do. Hopefully, this prompts him to sit down with his son and explain to him what exactly is going on and where the kid fits into all this. Furthermore, if Ross has some housecleaning to do, hopefully he does that too. This dirty laundry stinks!

(Hell, Ross, if he is bout it, really needs to file for full custody of his son, because he now has grounds to get him.)

Exhibit C: a poll of the people. Has 50 Cent gone too far?

QuestionsView Results

As a father, I can’t imagine how I would react to such disrespect. I’d die and kill for my kids. I don’t have a stack so that’s out. I don’t have “blammers’ so that’s out. I guess I would have to fume quietly and remain dignified…as a man.

Mothers Of T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Ne-Yo Launch TV Show

The mothers of rappers T-Pain, Lil Wayne and R&B singer Ne-Yo have teamed to create a new talk show, Dinner Table Discussions.

Aliyah “Mama Pain” Najm (T-Pain‘s mother), Jacida Carter (Lil Wayne’s mother) and H. Loraine Smith (Ne-Yo’s mother) will serve as hosts of Dinner Table Discussions, which aims to present a quality and informative program.

According to the women, their aim is to create a show that will enhance their viewers “educationally, economically, socially and culturally,” by discussing current events, important topics, interviews and feature segments.

“Our vision is to be a premier talk show that delivers a creative and informative format that assists viewers in educating and solving challenging issues,” Najm told AllHipHop.com in a statement.

“There are situations in our communities, cities, states and even nationwide that people have made us aware of and they want to resolve the issues, but they just don’t know where to get help or how to properly handle certain issues,” Najm said.

In addition to discussing relevant topics, Dinner Table Discussions will also provide solutions for young people as well.

Dinner Table Discussions is scheduled to launch in 2010.

50 Inks Major Film Deal; Starring In ‘The Gun’

50 Cent’s Cheetah Vision Films company has inked a deal with a Georgia production company Action Jackson Films, to produce and finance 3-5 major films per year.

Variety reports that Cheetah Vision’s first project under a new deal with investor Richard Jackson is titled The Gun, which was written by 50 Cent himself.

50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, will star opposite Val Kilmer in The Gun, which will begin shooting next month in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with Jesse Terro sitting in the director’s chair.

The Gun revolves around friends who are involved in the underground world of gun dealing.

The movie is the first of three features that 50 Cent has already penned.

“When you write a song, you need to say it in three minutes or it is overkill, but I like creating stories and going in depth with characters,” 50 Cent told Variety.

Cheetah Vision’s next project is the drama, Jekyll and Hyde featuring Forest Whitaker.

50 Cent recently made his directorial debut with Before I Self Destruct, a film that is included with the album of the same title, which was released today (November 17).

DJ Pooh: Friday To Friday To Monday Morning

Veteran Producer DJ Pooh known to fans

worldwide as Red in the movie Friday, has been a force in the Hip-Hop

world for nearly three decades now. Breaking in as a DJ for the groundbreaking

legendary West Coast DJ crew known as Uncle Jamm’s Army, DJ Pooh made

his mark as a producer for the likes of LL Cool J, Ice Cube, King Tee,

2Pac, Snoop Dogg and many more. Not one to stop there, DJ Pooh made

his way in to film-making and screen-writing along with his long time

friend Ice Cube as they co-wrote the cult-smash movie Friday. Ice Cube

and DJ Pooh had a falling out after that movie as was evident in the

song “Whoop Whoop” by Kam which appeared on DJ Pooh’s own album,

Bad Newz Travels Fast. DJ Pooh continued with his film career by

writing and directing the movie 3 Strikes and teaming with his mentor

Dr. Dre for The Wash. However, it didn’t stop there for him as he

once again found a new lane to be creative by making his way in to the

video game world by helping to create the Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

game. Although DJ Pooh admits to not doing many interviews, he chose

AllHipHop.com to tell his unique story from his beginnings to the projects

that he’s working on now. Be inspired to find new ways to be creative

by reading this special interview.

AllHipHop.com: Your West Coast Hip-Hop

roots go pretty deep. Why don’t you let us know just how far back

you really go?

DJ Pooh: It started back in the day

with me just being Pooh – I was a little chubby kid. I am 6’3”

and slim now but I was a chubby little kid and because of that, my family

called me that name. When I became interested in DJ’ing, I just kept

the same name. I guess I wasn’t thinking about one day being a grown

man named Pooh (laughs). I started doing gigs with Uncle Jamms Army

which was really the first source of a lot of urban music on the West

Coast.

AllHipHop.com: A lot of people don’t

know the history of Uncle Jamms Army and the roots it has on the West

Coast. You guys used to pack the Sports Arena with 10,000 people with

no headline act but your own.

DJ Pooh: I went down to a record store

that Rodger Clayton a.k.a. Uncle Jamm had called The DJ Booth – it

was the headquarters for the crew on 54th & Crenshaw

in the hood. I went over there and gave him a little audition to show

him what I had. We became friends and he gave me an opportunity to get

on the stage in front 10,000 people along side DJ Bobcat, The Egyptian

Lover, and the rest of the crew. Being in front of all those people

inspired me to get deeper in to the music business beyond the dance

promotion parties. Uncle Jamm started booking acts like Run-DMC to play

at the Sports Arena when they only had that single, “It’s Like That.”

Nobody had discovered “Sucker MC’s” on the B-Side yet. Run-DMC

hadn’t played to a crowd of 10,000 people yet and they were nervous

about going on stage. Uncle Jamm had a huge following regardless of

whether they had a headlining act or not and I thought that was pretty

impressive.

AllHipHop.com: Do you have a moment

that stands out for you while DJ’ing for Uncle Jamms Army?

DJ Pooh: One that has always stood

out in my mind was a show that we did with LL Cool J, The Real Roxanne

and Kurtis Blow. In between the acts we would DJ and I was on the turn-tables

when a massive f***in’ fight broke out and it was complete chaos!

I just kept spinning until Rodger stopped me and announced to the crowd

that we were going to stop playing until things calm down. I was sitting

behind the turn-tables watching 7,000 people in a super panic running

left and right – guys were getting stomped and it was real crazy.

That stands out in my mind because that’s what put a damper on the

whole Uncle Jamms Army thing because people were afraid to come out

and party – we had the terrible gang scenario that was growing in

L.A.

 AllHipHop.com: Legendary DJ’s

from that era like you, DJ Bobcat and Dr. Dre were able to make that

transition from being DJ’s to Music Producers. How were you able to

make that jump?

DJ Pooh: I have to credit Dr. Dre for

that. Back in the days when I was spinning with Uncle Jamm with Bobcat,

on the otherwise of town there was another promotional group called

The Wreckin’ Cru which Dr. Dre was a part of with Lonzo. It was a

competitive thing back and forth. If we both had a party on the same

weekend, we were all putting up posters and snatching each other’s

down. Then Dr. Dre and I had met each other through a person that had

record store booth inside of the Roadium Swapmeet. Dr. Dre was always

there at the time making mixtapes. Through that he had begun to do his

own productions and had gotten familiar with drum machines and other

equipment outside of the turn-tables. He showed me the ropes on all

of that and I had gotten bitten by the bug. I then had the opportunity

to show some of my work to Russell Simmons out in New York. I went to

Def Jam with a cassette tape of all the tracks that I had put together.

I even went out there with the drum machine that Dr. Dre was using.

So I went to New York and had a meeting and they listened to my tracks

and they liked it. DJ Bobcat was out there already with his production

partner Dwayne and they were already working with an artist named MC

Breeze who was under Def Jam. It made sense for all of us to come together

as the L.A. Posse at that time. From there we went on to produce

Bigger and Deffer for LL Cool J. We were trying to get MC Breeze’s

album out but we ran in to some friction from LL and a few others as

they viewed it as possible competition. We moved the deal over to Atlantic

Records and continued to produce for Breeze.

AllHipHop.com: A lot of people don’t

know that a group of guys from Los Angeles known as the  L.A. Posse

played a big role with East Coast Hip-Hop especially when it comes to

LL Cool J’s early career.

DJ Pooh: It was a difficult time but

it was fun. We were working out of Chung King Studios which was the

same studio used by Heavy D, RUN-DMC, LL Cool J, especially most of

the Def Jam acts at the time. LL was the biggest artist on Def Jam at

the time and he had just come off of his debut album. It was a great

opportunity to work on his sophomore album which cemented him. But when

we first got out there to New York, they actually referred to us as

Country. We were three guys from L.A. coming there with our own sound

with songs like “I Need Love” and others. The album was successful

and we were battling back and forth with the Michael Jackson Bad

album at the time.

After the LL album I wanted to go back

and help the West Coast out. The other guys stayed in New York to work

with LL but I decided to come back home and work with King Tee. We had

recorded “Payback’s A M####” and I took that out to New York to

try to get it spun. People were like, “I don’t know if we are ready

to listen to this guy rapping but we love the track” so WBLS would

only play the instrumental. I had been working with Ice Cube since the

early NWA days when they were recording out of Eazy-E’s garage at

his mom’s house.

AllHipHop.com: What involvement did

you have in those early N.W.A. songs?

DJ Pooh: Dr. Dre and I had co-produced

“Eazy Duz It.” Dr. Dre had a great idea to make and I came in to

assist him on that record and learn as much as I could. After N.W.A.

had broken up, I worked with Cube because I had known him more than

some of the other guys. I was a part of a production company called

The Boogiemen with DJ Bobcat and another guy named Rashad and we did

Ice Cube’s Death Certificate album.

AllHipHop.com: Did that cause any problems

with your good friend and mentor Dr. Dre?

DJ Pooh: Not at all because Dre and

I have always had a respectful relationship. I have a great deal of

respect for him. I looked at it as just working with Ice Cube and helping

him accomplish what he wanted to do on the album. He had the whole concept

of the Death side and the Life side already in his head. That was back

in the day when artists made albums and it sounded like it was made

by one person instead of a bunch of different people.

AllHipHop.com: You had to have been

floored by the “No Vaseline” diss song to NWA when it was first

recorded.

DJ Pooh: I was floored by it but I

understood what was going on. I worked on that record alongside Sir

Jinx and I put together the whole intro where it goes, “Here’s what

they think about you. N.W.A. ain’t sh*t without Ice Cube.” It was

never personal. If I am working with an artist, I am going to help them

accomplish what they want. I wasn’t personally going after Dr. Dre,

MC Ren, Yella or Eazy.

AllHipHop.com: You were asked to fill

a role played by your longtime friend Dr. Dre as the main Producer for

Snoop Dogg’s sophomore album The Doggfather, when Dr. Dre left

Death Row. What was your approach trying to fill Dre’s shoes?

DJ Pooh: People looked it as me being

put in a position to fill Dre’s shoes but I didn’t see it that way.

I have such a great respect for Dr. Dre that I wouldn’t even tell

anybody that I attempted to fill his shoes. What I did was try to do

the best job that I could for Snoop Dogg and do something that he felt

comfortable with. He was going through a murder trial at the time and

we had to make records that wouldn’t be held up in a court room. It

was a tricky scenario because for one having to step in to a position

held by Dr. Dre and then produce something that we felt wouldn’t send

Snoop Dogg off to jail.

AllHipHop.com: Weren’t you nervous

at all or somewhat overwhelmed at the task?

DJ Pooh: Not at all because I had

because I had been producing for a while and we all have our own styles

and own ways of doing things. I wasn’t one to want to make an album

that sounded like something Dr. Dre would do. That approach took a whole

lot of pressure off of the scenario to begin with. I can’t mimic his

style even though people that had become fans of Snoop Dogg during that

time would want that and some producers would probably try that approach

to please them.

AllHipHop.com: You then released your

own person project called Bad Newz Travels Fast. What led you

to do your own album after producing on so many other albums?

DJ Pooh: I had been working with so

many artists and I wanted to give them an opportunity and a platform

to get records made. Back in the day you could walk in to a record company

with a great demo and get an artist signed. It wasn’t like today where

it’s a matter of how many hits you have online or what mixtape you

have out. It was more of the label feeling an artist and wanting to

develop them. That was my way of developing artists – like Threat

and The L.A. Zoo.

AllHipHop.com: You spoke earlier about

the Ice Cube N.W.A. diss and how it wasn’t personal. Yet on your own

album, you had a diss to Ice Cube by Kam called “Whoop Whoop.” That

wasn’t personal too?

DJ Pooh: At the time I was working

on the album, Cube and I had our differences about our movie Friday

which was the first movie that we had co-written together. I also played

a small character named Redd in the movie. We also had the same management.

I felt that I was wronged on the Friday movie and we were young guys

so I took it personal. I put the blame on Cube and that’s something

that I probably shouldn’t have done. I went off on my own and felt

that it was time to take care of myself. I went to work on the album

and Kam had that song “Whoop Whoop” which was produced by DJ Tony

G. I heard the record and I actually fell in love with it and not just

the fact that it was a diss to Ice Cube. I loved the record itself and

Kam was someone that I brought to the table with Street Knowledge back

in the day. I took that record and just put it on my album.

AllHipHop.com: You went from DJ’ing

to Producing to writing movies. That’s a huge jump. Was there anything

that brought that about?

DJ Pooh: I learned a lot of the script

writing process from Ice Cube and John Singleton. He had sat us down

and showed us the ropes and the basic structure of screenplay writing.

At the time I had an idea to do a movie that was based around Weed.

I felt that Weed could be as big a star in a movie as any of the actors

in it. I came to Cube with the idea and we ended up co-writing it together.

We had already done some videos together – one in particular called

“Who’s The Mack” where I played a character in it. We had a fun

time and it made us want to make films together.

AllHipHop.com: “Friday” had some great

characters. How did you come up with all of the different standout characters

for that movie?

DJ Pooh: A lot of that stuff were things

that came from the neighborhood. Things that you saw or were a part

of while growing up. The only movies coming out of the West Coast were

things like “Boyz N The Hood” and “Menace II Society.” I had a vision for

something else – me being the comedian that I am. It was life in the

hood as for what it was but without focusing on the gang issues. We

were able to out on a limb and try something different.

AllHipHop.com: You have to talk about

that little “run” that you did after Deebo took the chain that your

Grandmama gave you.

DJ Pooh: A lot of people took to that

scene. I use that as an example for people that come to me and ask about

taking small roles in films. I go back to the role that I played as

Red in Friday. It was a small role but it was a very memorable character

in the movie. People remember it! I go to Disneyland with my kids and

people walk up to me and say, “You got knocked the f**k out!” I

don’t take it personal because obviously they are showing their support

for the movie. I was honored to have our low budget project do what

it did. There is a cult following for it.

AllHipHop.com: “After Friday” you ended

up making a movie called “3 Strikes” that you produced and directed. What

was your idea on that one?

DJ Pooh: That movie came out during

the time that the 3 Strikes law was passed in California. I believe

in redemption and I believe that people can turn their lives around.

Me being a person that has focused on comedy, I wanted to talk about

that issue and bring attention to it through a comedy film. The story

was about a guy who was released from jail who had 2 strikes on him

and was thrust in to a bad scenario just by being picked up by a friend

who had a stolen car. He had no idea that it was and it showed how easily

his life could be thrown away over something like that.

AllHipHop.com: Your next movie “The

Wash” had you teaming with your good friend Dr. Dre.

DJ Pooh: “The Wash” was our take on the

70’s “Car Wash” movie. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, myself and a few others

came together and agreed that a new version needed to be made. I played

the most incompetent kidnapper ever (laughs).

AllHipHop.com: You don’t seem to

mind giving yourself roles in which you are made fun of.

DJ Pooh: Not at all. It’s just a

movie. You can’t always be the guy with the cape on. Somebody has

to be the person being rescued, or the villain. When I was younger,

I got in to some trouble and I did some time. I was the guy that had

everybody laughing in jail. I enjoy doing that.

AllHipHop.com: The last time we heard

from you musically was on the 213 album with Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and

Warren G. Why did you step back from the music scene?

DJ Pooh: It’s because of the state

that the music industry is in today. I sort of saw it coming early.

I just feel the music industry is not about creativity or the artist.

Now it’s about the hype and everything but the actual art itself.

I am still a big fan of music and I still love to make tracks of my

own when I am at home. I have a love for music that will never die but

from a business standpoint there have been things that have made me

step back from the music industry.

AllHipHop.com: Once again you were

able to evolve and find another field to be successful at. I am talking

about your foray in to the Video Game market with Grand Theft Auto San

Andreas.  How did you get involved in that?

DJ Pooh: I’m a gamer and I’ve been

one since back in the day. I’m not just someone that was offered a

chance to work on a video game. That opportunity came because I am a

gamer and had interest in it. I was a fan of Rockstar Games and the

Grand Theft Auto series. I spoke to some people at Rockstar and they

told me that they were thinking about bringing the series out West.

They wanted to deal with people that knew and understood the Los Angeles

scene and that also had script writing ability. So I got involved and

worked on the script for the game and also suggested people as characters

for the game. I brought in a rap artist that I was working with named

Young Maylay and he became the CJ character. I was blessed to get an

opportunity to see all of the processes of video game making.

AllHipHop.com: Is there anything new

that you are working on right now in the video game, television and

movie departments?

DJ Pooh: I am working on a video game

right now with Rockstar Games but working for them is like working for

the C.I.A. If I talk about it, they will kill me (laughs). Also I am

looking at developing a few more games myself. I have just completed

two film scripts, but the film industry being what it is, I don’t

want to give much info away on that either. Expect something along the

lines of Friday. I am trying to do something that I’ve never done

before and that’s work on a non-comedy. On the television side, I

created a show called “The Life” which is sort of a Hip-Hop version

of Entourage. It’s a take on the Hip-Hop industry but I use Entourage

as sort of a guideline. I took that project to Ice Cube and his partner

Matt Alvarez at Cube Vision. We all walked it in to Comedy Central and

they loved the idea so we locked in a television deal. I then brought

on Aaron McGruder who I worked with on The Boondocks. I’ve got a great

deal of love and respect for that guy – he’s brilliant. We just

completed the pilot and script and we are getting ready to go in to

casting for that project.

AllHipHop.com: You mentioned that you

are working with Ice Cube again. How and when did that reunion come

about?

DJ Pooh: It came about around a year

ago when we started talking about this project. I ran in to Cube at

a restaurant. For the longest time I felt that I had handled the situation

between us rather immaturely. It was really about a manager that we

both had at the time. It actually started at the Up In Smoke Tour in

Detroit. I had been hanging out with Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre discussing

The Wash. Cube went on stage and I was watching him perform songs that

we were a part of. It dawned on me that we had accomplished a lot together

and maybe I should talk to him because I wanted us to have a friendship

again. It is really hard to find good friends and good creative people

in this business. We ended up talking and apologized to each other and

decided that we weren’t even going to talk about that sh*t anymore.

When we work together, there is always a good outcome.

I feel like a part of the hold back

on the West Coast is attitude and guys not being able to grow. I think

what would help the West Coast is that we all need to recognize that

we need to grow up some more and be able to have an appreciation for

each other and the opportunity we have been given. I respect the new

guys like Nipsey Hussle, Glasses Malone and others. I support all of

the West Coast artists – and the artists in the South and the East.

I don’t want to regionalize Hip-Hop and I believe soon others won’t

either.

AllHipHop.com: Is there any way we

can convince you to get back in the studio to do one last project?

DJ Pooh: Yeah! I think me saying all

of this is leading me to say that I am going to get back in the studio

because I will be feeling Hip-Hop and music a little more as I do it

for a broader audience. Everybody has a story to tell but I think the

more honest stories are the ones that are not just about representing

where they are from – it’s really where you are at. Once the region

and area shout-outs go away, it will be all about the music. At the

end of the way we are all brothers trying to do this thing, no matter

where you come from. The East Coast/West Coast thing drove me away from

Hip-Hop. I remember being in New York shooting the video for The Dogg

Pound’s “New York New York” which I produced and we were shot

at! The song was never intended as a diss but once that war started,

that song was looked on as a diss. Shooting a video for that in the

middle of New York wasn’t the safest or smartest thing to do at the

time. I told myself that I had to take a step back from Hip-Hop for

a minute. I love Hip-Hop but I love myself and I love my family too.

It’s not worth it and people need to just back to making music again

– and I see that more now which encourages me to step back in the

game and make music.

New Rapper: Do It The Lupe Fiasco Way

I’ve been listening to a lot of Lupe Fiasco lately, namely albums The Cool and Food and Liquor.

I can honestly say that I appreciate him as an artist more now than I ever have. I’m not a stanish follower of the Chicago artist. I know he is constantly giving his fans small updates on the progress he’s making on his new music, but I generally get that second hand. I am a fan of his work and basically am waiting for his next album to drop.

I don’t claim to know what Lupe is doing from a marketing point of view, but I can certainly see what is brewing.

He’s really managing the demand of his music by not flooding the market with disposable mixtapes and meaningless freestyles. To clarify, that’s not to say that all mixtapes and freestyles are pointless. I don’t think that. For example, 50’s War Angel was a solid “mixtape” (street album) and it served him well over the summer. There are others that have had well-placed freestyles that have impact that transcend the norm. Crooked I did over 52 freestyles in his “Hip-Hop Weekly” series and created demand.

But, more often than not, these successful rappers are seasoned vets and the releases serve a promotional purpose to attain a higher goal. Like 50’s Before I Self Destruct and Crooked’s super group Slaughterhouse are the results of that push. The new artist probably needs to find a merger of the two, but generate a demand like I feel Lupe is doing.

Lupe is fostering a need for his presence in the present climate of Hip-Hop.

On the low, everything he does, people go crazy. For example, a couple fans of Lupe Fiasco emailed myself and others on the AllHipHop staff to inform us that he was doing a

Here is a news flash: rappers are a dime a dozen. A dime a dozen.

This is sad a regrettable for those that are unable to accept it. More rappers need to find ways to attain attention based on legitimate tactics like the quality of their music. I’m not even opposed to a “rap beef” that makes some sense, but that’s mostly a quick, feeble fix. There are other metrics for their success. The ability to generate excitement around their project is another quality that is meaningful. Lupe is doing these at his various shows. He’s doing it in code blog messages. He’s doing it in these commercials, that actually tell fans that “I mean more to you than just music.” As far as I can ascertain, Lupe’s base of fans is rock solid and whenever that is the case, the masses come (with the proper promotion and marketing).

So, for the young rapper, the point here is to create a demand and sustain that demand all the way until your album is released. The worst way is to undermine your own effort is to flood the streets and internet before the demand is there. You only over-satisfy your fan base and have a few less reasons to buy an album. Now, if the demand is there and you release a mixtape or flood the market, you are then satisfying a demand or delivering the streets something to hold them down.

But, I like how Lupe is doing it.

He’s patient. He’s deliberate. And he’s building something that will live on for years to come. The money will follow…

This means, after his recording career is over, there will most likely be people that want to see him live for years to come. I was amazed at the way the Goodie Mob was received at their reunion in Atlanta. That lead to them being the highlight of the BET Hip-Hop Awards. No need to sully your legacy flailing around the internet in search of relevance. Do this right and relevance will find you.

Have faith, then deliver.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Tupac Sex Tape? Joe Defends His Gal! Trina In NYC!

DISCLAIMER:

All

content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual

info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

CHANCE ENCOUNTERS!

I may have slacked off for a day, but Chance didn’t. Check out HIS rumors! There are some good ones!

JOEY DEFENDS HIS WOMAN

Last week Fab went in on Joe Buddens new girlfriend Somaya Reece and like the other celebrities before her she became the laughingstock of Twitter for a little while. Well Budden has come out and defended his new main jawn stopping short of attacking Fab (don’t want to end up on that #TT list). He says the whole thing was some “sucker s**t” but he’s “honestly not talking about nothing that Fab did”. He’s blaming this one on the fans who he claims are d**k riders.

NEW YE’!!!!!!

This is the Kanye West I’ve been missing. I figured this was old when I heard it but apparently this is a verse Kanye recorded for Last Train To Paris…now if we can just get an album with this spirit:

TUPAC SEX TAPE

Treach says he taped it and word is it’s still floating around out there. Pac has been putting out music for over a decade after his death now he’s about to drop a sex tape??? Pac is one bad mother…

WHO GOT NEXT

So who will be the next “famous” person with nude pics on the net?? Aaron Reid your up. Aaron is LA Reid’s son and he got a little bit of fame when he was featured on My Super Sweet Sixteen. Well apparently he met someone in Miami and despite “being cocky as hell” this person “still agreed to have sex with him”. Unfortunately homey went in for 10 minutes then passed out and his new friend is pretty upset. Now she is sending out pictures of Mr. Reid with his “little Reid” hanging out of his pajamas asking blog sites to expose him…I’m not looking forward to the pics but there is a lesson here…be careful who you deal with and make sure you put it down this is what happens when you don’t.

A GOOD LOOK

Trina was in MY city this weekend (NYC) shooting the video for her new song “That’s My Attitude” and looked amazing…she also performed at Mango’s out in Jersey.I heard it was PACKED.

LET THAT MAN BE

Looks like everybody isn’t as over the whole RiRi thing as we’d like to think. Chris went out on the town for a nice evening of shopping but some girl let him have it…is she doing too much or is she giving him what he deserves???

R.I.P KEVIN WHITE

A bodyguard by the name of Kevin White, who has worked with celebrities like Diddy and Mariah Carey was killed over the weekend by police in Cypress Hill. They claim he was holding a gun which he was told to drop and they claim there is even security camera footage showing him shooting back at the police. People defending Kevin say he had just wrestled the gun away from another patron at a local bar. I wasn’t there so I cant say either way but after 22 years of dealing with the police I think I have a pretty good idea of what really happened so I will add this to my list.

MRS. CARTER’S CARGO

Bey was across the pond for a few days last week and she was definietly not traveling light. She rented a seperate room to store her 12 bags which included 7 suitcases, 3 hand luggage bags, 2 boxes, 14 dressed, “lots of shoes”, makeup and 25 wigs…guess it takes a lot of equipment to look like this: I’M JUST SAYIN’Some

Former Motown VP Creates Charity to Bury Unclaimed Dead

The economic woes in the city of Detroit have extended past the grave, as more than 60 bodies have remained unclaimed in the Wayne County morgue due to the next of kin being unable to pay for funeral arrangements.

That painful reality is now being remedied thanks to music industry veteran Shanti Das, whose non-profit May We Rest in Peace is working towards giving every unclaimed body a dignified burial.

Das, a former executive with LaFace, Arista, and Universal Motown, created her organization after watching a news piece that showed all the bodies crammed into a holding freezer. According to a Wayne County morgue representative, some of the bodies had been there for years.

“They were stacked up like my shoes in the closet. It was a lot of things that hit home for me,” Das explained to CNN, recalling his own family’s financial struggle to bury her father. “I just wanted to immediately take action. I thought oh my God, we have to try to restore some dignity to these families.”

Through the help of industry connections like Akon and Busta Rhymes, Das’ organization has raised $6000 in less than a month, and successfully completed the burials of six people.

Many of the next of kin were forced to sign off on the deceased loved ones, and simply hoped that the city would eventually secure the funds for a proper burial.

Along with a burial, a ceremony takes place where volunteers gather to pay their final respects.

“We’re a city known for abandoned houses. We’re certainly not going to let them know us as abandoning our people,” stated construction worker and funeral organizer Paul Betts to CNN.

Having worked with Outkast, Toni Braxton, TLC, Jermain Dupri, and many others, Shanti Das explained that her new passion simply comes from caring for her fellow man, regardless of their backgrounds.

“It’s going to take one person like me and a million others to start shedding lights on these problems. But just because I’m a country girl from Atlanta doesn’t mean I can’t help someone in Detroit,” she offered.

At press time, the city of Detroit has allocated $22,000 in their 2010 fiscal budget for unclaimed burials.

OK…Everybody is coming down on me for not updating the rumors today. Well, I took a day off – THANKS! Lil Wayne & Juelz Video Shoot

EXCLUSIVE

Lil Wayne & Juelz Santana are back at it again!

This weekend the two rappers shot the Home Run music video in Atlanta, directed by James Del Gatto. Sources tell NewLilWayne.com exclusively that the music video is going to be “huge” and that it includes cameos from Young Money artist Lil Chuckee, Bubbles, T#### Boi, Skull Gang, and more.

We’re told the concept of the video is “very Presidential”, its set in a white mansion which looks like the white house and the video is all about making money. There are many seductive, sophisticated women in the video as well, and we’re told that there are even some dominatrix scenes.

Sources say the shoot took all day starting around 8am and that Lil Wayne rolled up in a Rolls Royce. Video Model Paris said “Wayne was a gentleman as always, it was good seeing him again. He was looking fly as always! He was sipping his “Dolce” wine & smokin blunts. His feature was BANANAS! As you know he’s a real performer so there was never a dull moment, he was all over the place! It was crazy!”

Major shout out to our good people at Ozone and Paris Rosentheter for this exclusive. Check out all the pictures below and remember where you heard it first.

9th Wonder Launches “Bethune Project” In Support of Small NC College

Producer 9th Wonder has been recruited by a small North Carolina college to create a new program aimed to revitalize the school’s low enrollment.

The board of trustees at Barber-Scotia College in Concord, North Carolina has asked the renowned producer to develop the 9th Wonder Center for Music Studies and Entrepreneurial Studies, he told AllHipHop.com exclusively.

Founded as a women’s seminary tied to the Presbyterian Church in 1867, Barber-Scotia College is a Historically Black College, which has always had enrollment numbers under a thousand students.

Among the school’s alumni is Dr. Mary McCleod Bethune, who would go on to found what is now Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, and serve as adviser to President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Since losing its accreditation in 2004, the now co-ed Barber-Scotia College’s enrollment is at an all-time low of just 20 students. The 9th Wonder Center is just one of many projects the school has recently revealed as it prepares to be recognized for accreditation candidacy in April 2010.

In May, the school also announced the creation of the Faithful Promise campaign, whose honorary chairperson is R&B singer Monica. The campaign’s goal is to raise $10 million by June 30, 2011 to fund scholarships, support operational costs and repay the school’s past debts.

“As the main facilitator for the Center for Music and Entrepreneurial Studies, I’ll be overseeing all aspects of the project,” 9th explained to AllHipHop.com.

Among his duties are the development of courses and programs of study, as well as the selection of the faculty and administration who will be involved.

“I’m in the process right now of asking some of my closest friend in academia to help me do this,” he added. “I’m calling my project The Bethune Project. I wanna come in and try to bring more students to that school. So I’m basically rebuilding a college. It feels like 1899.”

Once completed, the Center will offer courses in Music Technology, Music Ethnology and History of Black Music in a social context. While he develops the new Center, 9th Wonder will be pulling double duty as a professor.

Starting in Spring 2010, he will be teaching Hip-Hop in Context and History at Barber-Scotia. Having also just recently become an adjunct professor at Duke University, 9th has developed a course with Dr. Mark Anthony Neal, professor of Black Popular Culture in the department of African and African-American Studies at the University.

The two will be teaching a new course called “Sampling Soul,” which explores Soul Music from the 1950s to the present, while exploring how the music was shaped by Black culture and vice versa.

Maino, Littles Organize Fundraiser For Slain Rapper Mike Beck

A number of New York rappers are gathering to pay tribute to slain rapper Mike Beck, who was shot and killed in Brooklyn in October during a robbery.

Music executive Littles and rapper Maino have organized the “Self Destruction” unity concert on November 23, to raise money for Beck’s 10-year-old son’s college fund.

Beck was a member of the rap group Kill All Rats (K.A.R.), a group affiliated with Fat Joe, appearing on his “300 Brolic” remix.

“The streets need guidance, the recession has dudes in hoods around America hungry. I’m fresh off a platinum plaque, All The Above just went platinum,” Maino told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “So as far as I’m concerned I made it out the ghetto, but Mike Beck’s passing has given me the fuel to take a few hours out of my day and give back to the lane that got me where I am. The streets. This event will help send Mike Beck’s son to college. We have to start looking out for one another.”

Rapper Hell Rell, Saigon, Uncle Murda, Grafh, Cadillac Tah, Maino and a number of others were tapped to perform at the event because of their street following.

Hot 97’s DJ Kay Slay and K. Foxx have been tapped to host the concert with Fuse TV radio personality Dee Vazquez at the Imperial Night Club in New York.

“I will do my best to see that the message gets out there to our youth about what has happened to Mike Beck and others alike around the world,” Littles added. “We have to come together in peace November 23rd and the message will start in the Hip-Hop community. I worked hard along with the rappers performing to get this concert together and also spread the message “Self Destruction” something that affects us all.”

Imperial is located at 17 West 18 Street. The show starts at 9:00 PM.
