AHH Stray News: Kanye Performs, Wyclef, Diddy

Kanye West gave a rare performance in London last night (November 15). West hit the stage for his first high profile concert, since an incident when he crashed the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech during the MTV Music Awards in September. Beyonce was performing at the O2 Arena when she brought out special guests Jay-Z and Kanye West. Jay-Z hit the stage with his wife and the duo performed the track “Crazy in Love,” while the R&B diva and West performed a remix of her track “Ego.” The concert was historic because Beyonce gave away all the tickets for the show, a first for an artist at the 02 Arena.

Rapper/singer Wyclef Jean will make an appearance on the David Letterman show tonight to support his brand new project From the Hut, To the Projects, To the Mansion. The Haitian born singer will perform a track from the new album with pop singer Cindy Lauper. Lauper is one of the guest featured on Clef’s DJ Drama-produced album, which also features appearances from Eve, Timbaland, Lil Kim and others. The David Letterman show airs tonight at 11:30 PM EST on CBS. Tomorrow (November 17), Wyclef will also perform at the grand opening of Best Buy in Union Square in New York City.

Rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is planning an extravagant party to celebrate his 40th birthday in New York this Thursday (November 19). Combs will be celebrating at the Plaza Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, where he and celebrities like Queen Latifah, Russell Simmons, Spike Lee and others will gather to celebrate the moguls born day. According to the New York Post, Combs has hired event planner Bronson Van Wyck to create a fantasy dream land, complete with a light display, an art display, a fashion installation and even a labyrinth. Combs stated that he is trying to create the party of the century to celebrate his 40th birthday. In related news Diddy has been tapped to open a brand new night spot titled Vanity on New Years Eve. Combs will host a party to open the Hard Rock Cafe’s latest club in Las Vegas. Although Combs will not be available when the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, he will host the party to officially open the club on or around January 2nd.”

Monday Fashion Feature – Matching Couples: Cute or Corny?

What’s your take on Kamber and their matching Nike Jordans? Is it cute when couples coordinate like this, or just plain corny?

I recently spotted a couple in matching COOGI track suits which made me want to hurl…

But then check out the classy Obamas below, who hooked up their outfits in a more subtle way.Is it ever acceptable for love birds to match their gear up, or should it only be saved for occasions like Halloween, and maybe sporting events?

Wyclef: Leading The Revolution

Just as his Toussaint

L’ouverture lead the Haitian Revolution, Wyclef Jean has returned to

his Hip-Hop roots with his latest EP From The Hut, From The Projects,

To The Mansion to spark a musical revolution. Despite never really

having left the public eye, the pioneering musician felt it was necessary

to return to rhyming under an alias to reflect his current revolutionary

mindframe. Introducing Toussaint St. Jean, but this does not mark an

exit for Wyclef Jean, but rather a new chapter in his already fascinating

story.

“Revolution is in my bloodline,”

he says, before explaining how Toussaint was one of the key figures

in the Revolution for Haiti. “So with the tone of the message that

I would be giving when I rapped, the name automatically came to me,”

he elaborates. “The EP goes back to the essence. It was important

to go back to the basics and the fundamentals, because sometimes you

get so big that people forget where you come from,” he adds. “I

wanted people to understand that I have not forgotten Hip-Hop. I’ve

not forgotten lyrics; that is very important in what I do.”

From The Hut, To The Projects,

To The Mansion not only documents Wyclef’s personal success story,

but also reflects his musical journey and progression. The project stands

out for a number of reasons, but perhaps most notably for the intriguing

choice of featured artists, including 80’s pop singer Cindi Lauper,

Lil Kim and Eve. Explaining his unconventional choice of vocalist for

Slumdog Millionaire, he jokes “I wanted that Cindi Lauper swag,

so why not just get Cindi Lauper?” He also points out that many

female vocalists today have been heavily influenced by the singer.

Perhaps most striking of all,

however, is Eve’s performance on Suicide Love, which is reminiscent

of her earlier, more agressive rhyming style. “Everyone is like

‘yo Eve sounds so sharp on that record and she hasn’t been out in

a minute, why does she sound so sharp?’ But I think, what happened is

you always have to remember that as a producer I’m always going to

try to focus and bring the best out of an artist,” Wyclef explains.

“The cool thing with Eve was, when she was doing the vocals she

was with Salaam Remi and Salaam is one of my mentors (he did the Fugees).”

He then adds, “She was able to pull out the passion naturally because

she’s still one of the best, period.”

Suicide Love provides

a long-awaited answer to Wyclef and Eve’s critics, who insist that both

artists may have traded in their grittiness and relevancy for mainstream

success. As he honestly admits in The Streets Pronounce Me Dead,

“Last time, [they] felt me was when I rhymed with Big Pun.”

Frankly his concern is greater than just Hip-Hop these days with his

music catering to people from all corners of the globe, although as

he proves with the EP he is still a “warrior,” he just chooses

a variety of outlets to vocalize his struggle now.

“At the end of the day,

as long as you have overcame something (and be clear, it’s not about

if you’re from the ghetto or from the suburbs or from the hut), if

you feel that you have accomplished that thing when people counted you

out and you rose to the occasion, you are a warrior,” he stresses.

After all, it is much more lucrative to produce and pen hits for some

of the biggest names in the music world and by doing so, Wyclef has

ensured that his music and messages will reach a more diverse, global

audience. He explains that while his EP represented Hip-Hip, his forthcoming

album “is going to represent the world.”

Due in Spring 2010, his eponymous

album Wyclef Jean marks the precursor to a true musical revolution.

He jokes that following his return to Hip-Hop, with the album he “is

bringing that stadium music.” Although most artists tend to go

the self-entitled route for debuts, Wyclef felt that despite his extensive

career, the project marks the first true introduction to himself. “This

is the first album in my whole entire career where the first seven songs

are only going to be Wyclef. [It’s] an insight into just me, because

it’s time for you all to know who I am,” he explains.

“The album is Wyclef Jean

the complete artist,” he declares proudly. “When you come

to the show, it’s the man playing seven instruments; the man sings,

the man rhymes, the man dances and the girls throw their things on stage,”

he jokes. “The guys go crazy, they pick up chairs and want to throw

them in the air and that’s all going to be on one album!” He

then explains that the album attempts to recreate the atmosphere at

his concerts. “The first seven records you’re going to hear are

very personal, like when you come to my show the first thing I do is

I get my guitar and talk to you for like 30 minutes. We talk. We converse.

Then after that I pick up the microphone and then the party starts.”

“When you put on that

Wyclef album, it’s going to be a sing-along album from beginning to

end. I’m going to make sure that you sing every song and the album

is all stories. Every song is a story.” Hoping his album will inspire

others to tap into their own creativity, he explains, “I’m going

to close [the album] with me going crazy on guitar on a joint called

Guitar Hero. So, all of my little aspiring guitar players, make

sure you get your guitar and learn that song.”

Wyclef Jean promises

to transgress musical boundaries like never before. The lead single from

the project will be Hold On, an optimistic collaboration with

Dancehall singer Mavado. “I wanted to set the tone of the album

in a sense of letting people know where my mind set is at,” he

clarifies. “With everything going on in the world, it’s good

to have like a feel-good record and let people know it’s all going

to be ok.” He passionately describes the offering as “the

pinnacle of the start,” before elaborating, “this album has

to be right because this represents a new millennium and this is the

sound that I want to go with for the future.”

Hopefully From The Hut,

To The Projects, To The Mansion and Wyclef Jean will also

succeed in opening doors for his other main passion, Haiti. Since founding

his charity Yéle Haiti in 2005, Wyclef has worked tirelessly to improve

the bleak outlook for his homeland. Sadly many fellow expats do not

share his vision; he explains, “Haitian people in America have

got to get it straight and go back and start helping their country,

because if everyone is starting to go back and help your country, you

can’t sit back and let them do the work.”

“If Bill Clinton is going

back to your country, everyone is going back to your country; you should

be in your country right now doing some work,” he adds in an accusative

tone. “It’s like I said on the mixtape, “From the hut, to

the projects, to the mansion.” No excuses; let’s get it!”

As Wyclef recognizes, it is not going to take a quick fix to mend years

of poverty and corruption in Haiti, but rather long-term initiatives.

His main goal is to raise funds

to build the Yéle Center, which will be a “ten year process.”

Wyclef explains that theYéle Center “will be a facility that consists

of a sports center, Wyclef Jean School of the Arts, a cultural center

focusing on the environment and an internet café.” “That’s

the key; we build sustainable opportunity,” he says optimistically.”When

people approach Haiti they try to save a nation and in order to save

a nation, you have to start by saving very few. So with Yéle Haiti

it’s not about saving the nation, it’s about saving a few kids and

these kids will save the nation.”

In order to make the Yéle

Center become a reality, Wyclef appeals to all his “warriors that

are online” to join him in a massive social networking project

that will take place in about six months from now. “We’re going

to use Twitter, we’re going to use Facebook, we’re going to put

all of our energies together and everyone’s going to donate $1, that’s

it,” he explains. “$1 can make a difference in a child’s

life.” Effectively using his internet presence to drive a massive

fundraising effort, he invites “everybody online to get with [him]

on that, to see if we can start raising money to put toward the Yéle

Center.”

With Twitter being used by

rappers for a number of interesting and obscure purposes, it is refreshing

to see a Hip-Hop artist putting it to a positive and productive use.

As Wyclef explains proudly, “We’re putting out the message of

revolution, not the revolution of the arms but the revolution of the

mind. Bring people together.” The veteran entertainer reveals that

he shares a gift with his late father, the ability to captivate his

listeners. “If you’re going to listen to me, I can get you to

do almost anything,” he says light-heartedly before adding on a

more serious note, “so it’s good that you use the influence to

have people do positive things.”

Having said that, he is quick

to point out that music in essence is still a form of entertainment

and feels that people should be less judgmental toward the more commercial

artists. “I don’t knock any of it,” he says. “As much

as we want to think Soulja Boy is stupid because the kids are singing

Get Your Swag On, it’s the same way they thought we were stupid

when we were dancing to the Humpty Hump.” “Maybe we’re

getting old,” he jokes. “Y’all go ahead and get old, I’m

staying young. I’m getting my swag on!” After all, “Hip-Hop

is always about revolution and you’re going to get change in it.”

He explains that the genre is merely “a reflection of the community”

and its various aspects.

As Wyclef acknowledges, in

order to progress and retain relevancy in the industry today you have

to adapt, experiment and reinvent your own style. “I think longevity

has to do with the passion, how passionate are you for what you do,”

he says reflectively. “There are very few people that are passionate

about what they do and you can hear those people because every time

they do a record, they act like it’s their first record, every time

they go onstage, they act like it’s their first show.” He adds,

“you can see that passion through the years.” In fact, if

there is one common factor throughout Wyclef”s work it is that

genuine passion for music and From The Hut, To The Projects, To The

Mansion is no exception. With Toussaint St. Jean at the forefront,

a revolution of sorts may well be imminent.

MOVIE REVIEW: “The Carter” Featuring Lil’ Wayne

When the opening credits of “The Carter,” the documentary based on the life of Dwayne “Lil Wayne” Carter opens with the disclaimer that the megastar rapper didn’t give any personal interviews for the film. Furthermore, it states the rapper had since pulled his support from the project.

One might assume that the resulting film includes a barrage of second hand, conspiracy theories surrounding the turbulent life of one of Hip-Hop’s most enigmatic personas. Nothing could be further from the truth. “The Carter” is a compelling and insightful look into the life of the Cash Money’s multi-million dollar man, and weaves a story that no orchestrated interview could possibly capture.

Director Adam Bhala Lough and crew were the preverbal fly on the wall as they had an all access pass into the life of Lil Wayne for approximately 6 months before the release of his history making Carter 3 release and two months after. The film peers intimately inside Wayne’s mind by capturing real moments that reveal pieces of the man who was once a mere child of Hollygrove, New Orleans.

The voyeuristic peek shows Wayne unapologetically in his element recording, and performing all over the world. Highlights include a fierce focus on his grind, constantly recording on his bus, performing and interviews. “The Carter” also gives a firsthand look at Wayne’s apparent insatiable thirst for syrup, which some fear is more abuse.

Attached to the world through his music, the film examines the reality of Wayne’s delicate balance of lyrical excellence and combating inner demons. The film makers also interview with those closest to Wayne including Baby, and his longtime friend/manager Cortez. In one scene, Cortez speaks – nearly to tears – as he talks about the public beef and ultimatum that almost ended their relationship. The film also includes interviews with journalists around the country that are quite hilarious. One interview in particular where Weezy explains what laws he would change if he had the power (Spoiler: he would legalize weed, put cocaine back in Coca Cola and end child support payments).

At one point Weezy compares himself to John Forbes Nash, Jr., the lead character in “A Beautiful Mind,” and, although the rapper hasn’t been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, this film accentuates that fine line between genius and insanity.

Incidentally it was that mind that intrigued the film’s executive producer Quincy “QD3” Jones III, to pursue the project. At the Los Angeles premiere, QD3 told AllHipHop.com, “I’ve followed Lil Wayne since he was with the Hot Boys and had always thought he was great lyrically but what intrigued me most about him was the fact that after achieving so much success as an artist that he chose to go back to college. That is what really made me want to take a deeper look into who Lil Wayne really was.”

Wayne has already carved his legacy in Hip-Hop, but “The Carter” will forever been known as one of the first movies that chronicled it in an honest, respectable and balanced way.

50 Cent, Floyd Mayweather Pose With Rick Ross Family

The feud between 50 Cent and Rick Ross continues, as pictures of Rick Ross’ family posing with 50 and boxer Floyd Mayweather recently hit the internet.

Thisis50.com posted various pictures of Ross’ family posing with 50 Cent and Mayweather at the boxer’s Las Vegas mansion.

One picture shows Ross’ ex-girlfriend Tia Kemp’s son DeAndre, as he poses in front of Mayweather’s Bentley.

Another features Tia posing with 50 Cent, Floyd Mayweather and her sons DeAndre and Kemp and Ross’ son William Roberts Jr, who can be seen sporting a chain with the logo for Ross’ Maybach Music record label.

The pictures, which hit the internet today (November 15th) around 4:00pm, are the latest in an ongoing feud between 50 Cent, Rick Ross and Floyd Mayweather.

Last month Ross released a remix to 50 Cent’s track “Baby By Me,” which featured a number of lines directed at 50 Cent.

Ross’ feud with Mayweather started when Ross released the diss track “Mafia Music,” which contained several lines casting doubt on Floyd Mayweather’s claims to extreme wealth in addition to the track “War.”

50 Cent’s G-Unit Books released Tia Kemp’s tell all book titled Tia’s Diary: Deeper Than Rap.

50 Cent also released a pornographic tape of Ross’ others baby’s mother Brooke on the internet over the summer, but the X-rated video was quickly removed from 50 Cent’s website.

Knockout Nation: Pacquiao Reigns Supreme! Will Mayweather Step Up? Big News and Rumors from Vegas

Pacquiao Stops Cotto in 12

Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) solidified himself as an all time great fighter with a dominating stoppage over Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KOs) to win a title in his seventh weight division.

The crowd was on fire the entire night, and the frenzy built before the combantants entered due to Top Rank showing clips of classic fights from yesteryear (Leonard-Hagler, Hearns-Hagler, Pryor-Arguello). Pacquiao came out first to “Eye of the Tiger,” and was all smiles on his way to the ring.

Cotto picked Kanye West’s “Stronger,” which seemed to be an inside dig at Pacquiao sicne manny considered Miguel the bigger, stronger fighter. Miguel tried to maintain his regular stoic demeanor, but his eyes showed his fierce determination to win the biggest fight on his career. Pacquiao’s jovial smile quickly disappeared as his name was introduced, and he took on the look of a warrior ready to give his life in the ring.

Both men looked sharp in round one. They traded stiff jabs that snapped each other’s heads back, and the Filipino and Puerto Rican contingents screamed approval for their fighters. As planned, Pacquiao kept himself in ring center and worked his patented right jab-straight left combination which glanced off Cotto’s guard. The Puerto Rican champion dug his left hook to the body, and maintained combination hooks to the body whenever Manny was in range.

Round two saw Cotto look to time Pacquiao’s speed as he had previously done with southpaws Zab Judah and Carlos Quintana. A hard right hook counter slammed through Pacquiao’s guard. The challenger retaliated with straight lefts, but Cotto looked unfazed and continue taking small steps forward in hopes of cornering his smaller foe. Pacquiao welcomed the pressure, and began exchanging with Miguel on the inside.

The risky move paid, as Pacquiao withstood several thudding body hooks to crash home blinding combinations of straight lefts, uppercuts, right hooks and jabs on Cotto. Both fighters were taking each others shots well, but Pacquiao flush blows gave him the edge.

Cotto’s attempts at inside work would have disastrous consequences on round three, when Pacquiao timed him beautifully with a straight left- right hook to score a balance knockdown. The champion still had his wits about him, and went right back to abusing Pacquiao’s rib cage and liver with hooks. Manny waved Cotto in with defiance and peppered him with jabs. Despite the knockdown, it was Cotto who would punctuate the round with a rattling combination of hooks to the face and body which stunned the challenger.

Cotto thought he smelled blood, and picked up his momentum in the fourth. Early on, his jab backed Pacquiao up, and placed him on the ropes. There, Cotto rained in hooks around the through Pacquiao’s guard. It was a dominant showing, and amazingly Pacquiao put on the high guard and did his version of the rope a dope. Freddie Roach was beside himself, since Pacquiao was doing exactly what they worked on avoiding.

Then suddenly, Manny Pacquiao exploded.

The Filipino sensation caught Cotto blind with a stinging left uppercut that hurt and dropped him. Cotto looked shell-shocked, but rose on wobbly legs. Pacquiao pounced on his prey with more uppercuts and hooks before the bell saved the desperate champion from a stoppage.

Before round six, Cotto face was a mask of swelling, fear, and confusion. He tried again to impose himself courtesy of a nice right hook, and later a left which Pacquiao shook off. The challenger again tried to goad Cotto to the ropes with the rope-a-dope, but Cotto would have none of it due to the previous knockdown. It mattered little to Pacquiao, and he began blasting Cotto with combinations at ring center and against the ropes. The punches were too fast and coming from too many different angles for Cotto, who could do little but cover up split seconds after each punch landed.

The beating continued in seventh and eighth. Pacquiao own hooks were doing massive damage to Cotto’s face; his eyes and lip swelling. In a nightmarish twist for Miguel, the fight had turned into the Margarito contest. Cotto was in full retreat, but could not move fast enough to avoid debilitating doses of straight lefts from a merciless Pacquiao. As round eight ended, it looked as if Cotto would only have a round or two left.

After taking another brutal pounding in round nine, Cotto’s corner looked close to stopping it before Miguel affirmed that he wanted to continue. At this point it wasn’t about trying to win, but simply the dignity of finishing the fight on his feet.

In round ten, Cotto circled the ring and avoided any exchanges with Pacquiao. His offense consisted simply of flickering jab and occasional right hand in hopes of deterring any further punishment. For two rounds, it mostly worked, and Pacquiao grew visibly frustrated as he was unable to cut off the ring and trap the wounded champion. Several times in the tenth and eleventh, Pacquiao stopped in ring center and threw down his hands in disgust at Cotto’s strategy.

Miguel was close to getting his wish to finish, but Pacquiao finally caught up with him at the beginning of the twelfth. Manny caught Cotto with his umpteenth straight left against the ropes, prompting referee Kenny Bayless to halt the contest a minute into the final round.

It was an astounding victory for Pacquiao, but the specter of his pound for pound rival manifested almost immediately, as loud chants of “WE WANT FLOYD” reverberated through the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Time will tell if the egos will be put aside to give the fans what they want. Until then, Manny Pacquiao deserves every accolade he gets, and it’s a privilege to watch greatness at work.

Undercard Results

Alfonso Gomez TD Jesus Soto-Karass due to accidental headbutt. Scorecards 58-54, 57-55, and 57-55

Yuri Foreman UD Daniel Santos to win the WBA 154 title. Scorecards 117-109 twice, 116-110.

Julio Cesar Chavez UD Troy Rowland. Scorecards 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93

Post-Fight Media Interviews

Miguel Cotto was taken to hospital and unable to attend the post-fight press conference. However, the gracious former champion made sure to get a message sent.

“I feel great. I know I’m cut and swollen. I just had a fight, that’s how I’m supposed to look,” Cotto explained in a prepared statement. “I did my best, and fought the best fighter I’ve ever fought. I’m going to take some time off and decide what I’ll do next. I thank the media for their great coverage and hope the fans enjoyed the fight.”

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes both Cotto and Pacquiao, was on a quotable rampage regarding potential fights with Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley. Considering he currently promotes the most exciting fighter on the planet, you can’t really blame him. Check out the below clips, where he explains why Manny Pacquiao is the greatest fighter of all time, and calls out Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley to step up to the plate.

Floyd Mayweather and Bob Arum Already Looking Elsewhere?

There was a disappointing rumor going around in Las Vegas regarding the next plans for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

Despite Arum’s public openness to a Mayweather bout, word is that the veteran promoter has been working with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to have Pacquiao face Juan Manuel Marquez in a rubber match at CowboysStadium.

On Mayweather’s end, the story is he’s training now for a European tour, where he’ll basically fight multiple bouts against lower level opponents like the old time fighters used to do regularly before the 1960s.

You would think both sides would not ignore the most lucrative fight in boxing history, but stranger things have happened.

Hopefully there scenarios will stay rumors and never come fruition, or at the very least after Mayweather-Pacquiao.

Z Gorres In Stable Condition After Collapsing in the Ring

All was not great in Las Vegas this weekend. On Friday night (November 13), Top Rank held a card at the Mandalay Bay which featured popular Filipino boxer ZC Oliveros “The Dream” Gorres, better known to fans as Z Gorres.

Gorres was dominating a 10 round bout against Juan Melendez before being caught with and dropped hard with 30 seconds remaining. He survived the round, and scored a unanimous decision.

As he was attempting to leave the ring, he collapsed and calls went out immediately for a stretcher.

It was later learned that there was brain swelling and a possible blood clot. A medically-induced coma along with part of his skull being removed was implemented to relieve the swelling. Gorres is now in stable condition and conscious.

Gorres was most known to mainstream fans for holding super flyweight unified champion Vic Darchinyan to a disputed draw in February 2008.

Please keep Gorres and his family in your prayers.

Shane Mosley-Andre Berto Press Conference

Yesterday afternoon, Golden Boy Promotions held a press conference to officially announce the January 30 bout between Shane Mosley and Andre Berto. There was a little trash talking towards the end, but for the most part both fighters remained respectful.

According to Berto promoter Lou DiBella, Mosley looked great against Antonio MArgarito because he had a limited fighter in front of him who was already mentally gone from his illegal hand wraps being found out.

Mosley was gracious to Berto’s talent, but made it clear the young titlist is in over his head and makes too many mistakes that’ll be exploited on January 30.

Unless Mosley has indeed aged dramatically since last January, Berto has a huge task in front of him to pull this off.

David Haye Makes First U.S. Appearance as Champion

Fresh off his victory over Nicolai Valuev earlier this month, UK fighter David Haye held an informal press conference for media gathered in town for Pacquiao-Cotto.

With other UK standouts like Amir Khan in attendance, Oscar De La Hoya made it clear that David Haye is the future of the heavyweight division, and will move to face the Klitschkos next year if he gets by a mandatory WBA defense against John Ruiz.

The heavyweight division has been in shambles the last several years simply due to the Klitschkos being so much better than every potential opponent out there. In Haye, the division has a fighter with the cockiness and exciting style that can make him a star with the right matchmaking.

I say right matchmaking because unfortunately Haye will be considerably smaller than most of his opponents, as he is a cruiserweight moving up. He showed his power by staggering the 7 foot plus Valuev in last round of their fight, but also had to run and potshot for eleven round because he was outweighed by 100 pounds, and had a hurt right hand.

John Ruiz is not the opponent you select to make a fighter look good, but it is a mandatory title defense that must be fulfilled. Golden Boy should look at Chris Arreola after Ruiz for Haye, as that would be an exciting, name building fight for Haye in preparation for a showdown with either Klitschko.

Manny Sings Following Cotto Victory!

To conclude on a light note, Pacquiao scheduled a $40 concert right after the fight at the Mandalay Bay. When asked for a preview, Pacquiao had no problems giving a quick sample. Can Manny sing? You decide. How can you not like this guy?

Pacquiao-Cotto Weigh-In: We Want YOUR PREDICTIONS!

The scene was electric yesterday afternoon (November 13) in Las Vegas for the weigh-in of tonight’s superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto.

As expected, the Filipino and Puerto Rican fanbases were out in mass to support their countrymen. Cotto made the contracted catchweight of 145 pounds without complications, and looked healthy and cut.

Pacquiao was ripped as usual and tipped the scales at 144 pounds.

Now that both men have rehydrated, Miguel Cotto should retain his weight and strength advantage as he’ll be around 160 pounds tonight. Pacquiao will likely hover slightly above 150.

There should be no excuses; Miguel and Manny look 100%. The winner won’t be because someone was “shot” or fighting above their “natural” weight. It’ll be because the victor is simply the better fighter.

The HBO PPV card starts tonight at 9PM. AllHipHop.com will supply round by round ringside coverage for the main event.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Impressed With Hip-Hop

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin appeared at a Hip-Hop contest on Friday (November 13), where he supported practitioners of the genre of music.

Putin appeared at the “Battle for Respect,” a music contest run by News TV at the event Putin delivered at anti drug message to those in attendance.”

“This is really is propaganda for a healthy lifestyle because it is a hard to imagine break dancing having anything to do with the drinking and dope,” Putin said of the break dancing taking place at the battle.

Contestants at the “Battle for “Respect” engaged in graffiti, break dancing battles and rap battles.

“I must honestly say that those young people who are pursuing these kinds of arts in our country are bringing in their own Russian charm to them,” Putin said during the contest.

Local rappers who participated in the “Battle for Respect” expressed interest in working with the 57-year old Prime Minister of Russia.

It would be cool to produce a joint track with Putin, because he is a legendary person and our idol,” said rapper Zhigan, one of the winners of the contest.

No word yet if Putin is planning a new career as a Hip-Hop artist.

Mariah Carey Compares Eminem To A Rejected Boy On Letterman

Mariah Carey likened Eminem to a boy rejected in a recent interview with late night host David Letterman.

“He continuously references me. I don’t know why so I wrote a song that’s really an anthem for all like little girls or kids that get their pony tails pulled and get abused,” Carey said on Late Show With David Letterman last night (November 13). “Because the boy is really in love with them and they can’t be with them.”

The singer was clearly noncommittal when asked if the song, “Obsessed,” was about the rap star.

“The song is not about anybody and yet it could be about anybody. You know? You never know,” she said.

Her husband Nick Cannon was taped backstage with a wide smile after her appearance.

The feud between Eminem and Carey has been ongoing.

Earlier this year, Eminem wrote a song called “The Warning,” which he alleged he had nude pictures of Carey.

Eminem raps, “You probably think if I had something on you I woulda did it by now, on the contrary, Mary Poppins, I’m mixing our studio session down and sending it off to mastering to make it loud, enough dirt on you to murder you, this is what the f–k I do…Mariah, it ever occur to you that I still have pictures?”

Eminem and Mariah Carey were reportedly in a relationship in 2001.
