OJ Simpson Drops Gangsta Rap In Outrageous New Video/DVD

O.J. Simpson’s recent 15-year jail sentence hasn’t prevented him from releasing “Get Juiced,” the NFL Hall of Famer’s first ever rap video.

O.J. Simpon’s new rap video was conceived as a prank for a DVD entitled Juiced, which showcases the controversial football great performing pranks on unsuspecting victims, in the vein of Ashton Kutcher’s Punk’d.

Using a gangsta rap persona named MC Juice, Simpson performs the track at a strip club surrounded by numerous burlesque, nude dancers.

Simpson raps over a beat similar to “I’m Serious,” a 1988 classic by Philadelphia rapper Steady B., that was produced by KRS One’s Boogie Down Productions.

“All you player haters and you sucker MC’s better get on your knees/and get some of the these/These nuts…” Simpson raps while surrounded by a harem of women.

Outtakes from the video also show Simpson holding a tongue-in-cheek audition for the strippers, dressed as Elvis with a midget, working in a fast food drive-thru, dressed as an 80-year-old man playing bingo and as a cheater who gets caught with a married woman.

Perhaps the most outrageous stunt features Simpson attempting to sell his infamous white Ford Bronco to unsuspecting marks, while acknowledging there are “no bodies in it” and that the SUV had “escapability.”

Aware that many would call this DVD tasteless in light of Simpson’s legal woes, Juiced distributor and Xtreme Entertainment Group CEO Rick Mahr argues that projects like this are big business in the American market.

“Juiced is America’s new guilty pleasure and will have everyone talking,” Mahr told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “We were shocked to see O.J. film these uncensored segments and surreal scenarios. From the moment you put Juiced in your DVD player and press play, the footage will keep you glued to your screen. You won’t believe your eyes.”

Simpson’s latest venture comes on the heels on his December 5 conviction for robbing two sport memorabilia stars at gunpoint.

He was sentenced to 33 years in prison on armed kidnapping and robbery charges.

Although an appeal is pending, the sentence will run concurrently if it stands, allowing Simpson to be eligible for parole after 9 years.

An uncensored version of O.J. Simpson’s “Get Juiced” will be featured on the Juiced comedy DVD, which is available in stores and online for $19.99 now.

The video is now available on iTunes for $0.99.

Common: My Mind Spray

“Truthfully I wanna rhyme like

Common Sense, [But I did five mill’]—I ain’t

been rhymin’ like Common since,” quipped Jay-Z on his

song “Moment of Clarity.” The point is clear; rhyming for the sake of the art

doesn’t really pay. But then again Chicago rhyme slinger Common isn’t doing so

bad.

Surely you’ve seen Lonnie Rashid Lynn hawking Zunes and Lincoln Navigators, getting his acting on in

flicks like Wanted and American Gangster, and on tour performing

selections from his eight albums. On December 9th he drops his latest

LP set of MP3s, Universal Mind

Control, proving that having the skills can pay the bills.

Common has long embraced his spot as the conscious MC not to

be tested on the mic (ask Ice Cube). Right now the former

Common Sense speaks on how all his corporate sponsorships and acting gigs mean

better music, what he learned making music with the likes of J Dilla and Kanye West, and that

pending album with Q-Tip. Seems like Common is seeing things clearly.

AllHipHop.com: You had people ready for Invincible Summer. Obviously now it’s Universal Mind Control, what happened?

Common: We was close to finishing, I really was planning on

bringing out the album, in July, and actually the 1st day was June

24th I had in my mind. It became a album [Ed. Note: Invincible Summer was originally announced as an EP.] We was

almost done and

then I got the movie The

Terminator. So I was like, “Man I got to do this,” so during that process

while I was doing it I couldn’t work at the same pace that I was working at. I

had to push it back.

Universal Mind Control (UMC) – Common

AllHipHop.com: Did the title change reflect a change in the

music as well?

Common: Oh yeah, well the title change happened because

first of all a lot of people, like my mother, would say, “Why you gonna still call your album invincible summer?” I was still

kinda like look, I like the title, I’m

calling it Invincible Summer.  But at one point a friend of mine, ‘cause

she heard the album, she like was like, “Man, Universal Mind Control, that’s what the album feel like. That would be a good title”. I felt

that was more fitting for the album, the sound of the album. I’ma come with Invincible

Summer at some point.

AllHipHop.com: You had also mentioned that your doing the

movies allows you to do music without caring about the business aspect. Can you

elaborate on that?

Common: First of all I’m an artist, so music is the way I

express myself. Man I love music, so when I get a chance to do it I’m feeling

grateful. I’m looking for the challenge and, for some reason, when I started

taking on acting I felt challenged, a challenge in me as an artist too. It was a new challenge, and I just kept

working on it and working on it and then I finally started getting opportunities

to do some movies.

In the interim I would be working on music, and it felt like

a weight was taken off my back as far as the responsibility of, “Man you got to

sell this amount of records,” you know or your music has to be so big ‘cause

that’s what’s sustaining your income, your life. As far as financial things go I felt like that weight was

taken off a little bit. Not that I came in and just started getting super,

super money on the movie side.

Like I said, it did take some of the responsibility off of

music as the only source of income. And now, with me doing more movies it’s

given me a chance to go out, touring ‘cause I want to. So that’s a joy for me

’cause I love music so I want to do it, for the love of it. That’s the reason I

first got into it of course.

We young men so we all think about making a living. You

know we all want to get, get money too.

But I got into Hip-Hop just because I loved it. When I first started

writing, money wasn’t even on my mind. So if I can kind of create that same

environment for me as a musician where it ain’t even no

way or shape about money, that’s gon’ make the music

that much better for me. It’s going to allow me to have more fun.

The biggest thing/purpose for me making music at a lot of

points is just to affect people’s lives. I’ve seen the

presence that it could have and that’s my biggest focus, even still. I wanted to affect peoples lives in a

way that they just gon’ be having a good time

enjoying themselves. Sometimes it’s like, “Damn I got to make sure I get’s

paid”, you know? As an artist you try to separate that s**t from your mind when

you working. You try to just do

the art and then once the arts [is] created, you go out there and you go market

that stuff. I want my music to reach even more people now. But it’s just like I’m having more fun

doing it that’s all just what really it just boil down to. It’s good to be like,

I’m working on this audition, but when I’m riding on the way to go do something

I’m in the car writing a song. Here let me read this script, let me go work on

something, it keeps me flowing. Common discusses new album Universal Mind Control – 12.9.08 – Common

AllHipHop.com: Because of the

type of artist you are it’s almost like a lot of your fans want Common to be broke.

Then you got all these sponsorships and the acting so cats start whispering

things, Common’s kind of selling out. What do you say when people say stuff

like that?

Common: I mean being at the point that

I’m a man, I got things that I want to do in my life, people to take care of

and a family to support, and investments to make. So I want to keep building

and building, and making things flourish so that I could provide for my family

and my community and all those around me. So, my thing is I’m very focused and

know that I’m cool with making money and not putting money first. I still want

to live well. The point is I don’t mind if a corporation comes to me and wants to do a deal if it’s something that fits with me and

won’t take away from me artistically. Then I mean I’m grateful.

Not only is it an

opportunity to make money directly but it’s also expanding audiences for me. If

you don’t change for money or you don’t change for doing some type of

partnership for the business or whatever, then shoot you should take it as a

blessing.  Then you doing the right

thing, that’s what you should be doing. Otherwise, it’s difficult for a artist if they not able to make a living [from just music]

if they not able to keep creating you know what I mean? It’s tough for them to

make a living and really be able to stay creative ‘cause then they got to try

and find another job.  It always

used to scare me like, “Man I don’t want to work no day job.” [laughs]

So I’m bout to make the best music

ever. And I’m a believer that if

you make the music as good as possible and just make good quality music, then

it’s gon’ come to light and people will get to it. Sometimes it may take a continuous evolution of that, but it

will come to light. I’m a believer

in that like, that, at some point, you just keep putting quality and growing

with what you do, as an artist and people gon’

recognize it and expand your audience. And really what I’m doing with the films, the commercials and different

things like that, is just expanding my audience and letting people know more

who Common is.

 The People – Common

AllHipHop.com: Over your career

you’ve worked with

production giants, Dilla, Kanye, the Neptunes; what have

you gained from working with some of them?

Common: Working with Dilla I just learned that…that’s somebody that I felt was

like all he knew was about making good music. I mean of course he wanted to

make money but his love was with the music man. His mom told me he was walking around when he was three

years old with 45’s on his wrist. His dad would walk him to the park,

he would have 45’s on his wrist. I

felt that coming through him.

With Kanye

I feel like I learned about song making. He really knows how to make songs and

he’s just so passionate and I also learned about being able to present your stuff with

confidence and say man, “This is what it is,” and not being like, “Ok, am I

offending anybody?”’ Cause I know in my heart where my heart is, and I know I

don’t want to offend nobody. I recognize that in Kanye. I mean even if people did get offended

his heart is in the right place. I

kind of learned from him, as far as making songs, it got to have good choruses.

You got to bring in these certain type of melodies. He was really the person that was like, “Ok, we gonna do some raw Hip-Hop, that’s gon’

still reach the masses.” We’re gon’ make sure it reach the

masses. That’s what his approach

was.

Working with the Neptunes is like…first of all we’re not working with

samples so that was something different in some ways. But I did that too with J-Dilla and ?uestlove, but the point is

that the Neptunes had a whole different approach in

production. Pharrell

might start the beat and then Chad will come add on. Pharrell

is definitely one who will, tell you, “Man we should do the hook like this,”

and then come with an idea for the hook.

He is one of the greatest producers I have ever worked with or the Neptunes together, some of the greatest producers.

Between them and Kanye they will make sure that song is done til the end. They

ain’t just gon’ let you rap a certain way. Kanye, ’cause he and I had known each other for a while and

he was definitely like, “Nah, re-write the rap.” Pharrell will be like,

man I think we could make this better.

He will say like you can do better.  It’s different approaches but both of them get to the finish

line.

No ID. Man, he is just one of the

greats that people really don’t know but he has done some incredible stuff. Working with him;

we were both new, this was our first time even making records. We were making demo’s

together, it was just about making music man.  He would make cold beats and I would just write the

raps. And he would give me his

opinion and say, “Man I think you could change this.” But most of the time I was stubborn at that time. Man, but overall that was just the raw

creation right there. We didn’t

know much about making the great hook or whatever. I would luck up, any hooks that we had that was good I would

luck up, I was just focused on the raps more than the

hooks.

AllHipHop.com: Now what’s up with

this super group you and Q-Tip are supposed to be putting together?

Common: Yeah, we still gon’ make it happen. It’s called The Standard and Tip got his album and once my album come out and

we get to getting that material out there… We just

talked and said man we got to start doing it. We had the idea and then we both

started doing our thing. I believe it’ll be happening soon, like at some point

in the next year I believe we’ll have some songs ready to put out. I’m just looking forward to working with

somebody of that talent. I listen to Tribe I listen to Tip

now and it’s like that’s a timeless dude. They made some music that’s forever

and he making music that’s just incredible. I feel like what we doing is two

jazz musicians getting together to make a album. The Game – Common

Actor De’Angelo Wilson In Eminem’s ‘8 Mile’ Found Dead

An aspiring Dayton, Ohio actor who starred in Eminem’s#### movie 8 Mile has been found dead of an apparent suicide, AllHipHop.com has confirmed.

Actor De’Angelo Wilson, who starred as “DJ Iz” in 8 Mile, apparently hung himself on November 26, just one day before Thanksgiving.

According to police, Wilson, who also had a role in the hit movie Antwone Fisher, was found dead in the back room of a Los Angeles business, although it took police a week to locate his next of kin.

Once Wilson’s mother was contacted, she revealed that she didn’t have the funds to bring her deceased son’s body back to his native home of Dayton.

A group of his friends have stepped in – including the real Antwone Fisher, who befriended Wilson during the production of the movie Antwone Fisher.

Wilson’s most recent role was in 2006, when he starred as “Julius“ in Mercy Street.

He also had small roles in The Salon, CSI: NY, Outside Man and others.

SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL: Efil4zaggin Vs. The Chronic

*Yeah I know it’s Sunday Morning, but i had to watch De La Hoya get itDr. Dre will probably go down as the greatest producer of the modern era.  Between the World Class Wrecking Cru, N.W.A, Death Row, and Aftermath, he has been at the forefront of whole shifts in the music landscape more than once. His production style has shifted each time as well from the electrofunk of the Cru, to the dusty drums of early N.W.A to their more polished work and on to the GFunk of Death Row.It’s been a while since we were treated to anything from the good doctor and even longer since we’ve heard something we were actually moved by, but the fact remains, that a significant number of singular MC’s of the past 20 years (Ice Cube, Snoop, 50 Cent, Eminem, Game) have gotten their way in the door with his cosign, regardless of where they went after him.Today we look at two of Dre’s masterpieces, one the black nihilist Efil4zaggin and The Chronic. Both of these albums came during a period of uncertainty for Dre. Following Cube’s departure from N.W.A, we all wondered out loud what the group would sound like and actually whether they would still be viable.  Dre (with DJ Yella’s able and unsung assistance) upped the ante with a quantum leap production wise that blew away everything Dre had done before. Live guitars, much cleaner drums, while still maintaining samples, and some of the whiney backgrounds that laid the groundwork for future production. After Dre’s departure from N.W.A no one knew what was next.  Even though we got a taste of it on “Deep Cover” we had no idea what was next.  The Chronic‘s formula of madness to melody trumped Efil4zaggin in the fun factor if not as focused musically. With a new crop of MC’s led by the incomparable Snoop Doggy Dog, Dr. Dre brought gangster to America and the world. MTV couldn’t get enough and it was the beginning of Hip-Hop’s domination of the charts for the next 15 years.Without any further rumination on my part, a clash of classics.  Efil4zaggin vs. The Chronic.  Be heard.  Peace.Poll Answers

MOVIE REVIEW: Punisher War Zone

Someone finally did it.  Someone finally gave us a Punisher movie worth watching.  In a year that has already given us more than

a few quality comic-book movies, Punisher:

War Zone is an unexpected treat.

After the horrible  Dolph Lundergren version and the PG-13 Thomas Jane vehicle, Punisher: War Zone feels like a shot of

adrenaline mixed with a whiff of laughing gas.

While the 2004 film borrowed certain sequences and characters from The Garth Ennis run (particularly Welcome Back, Frank), Punisher: War Zone manages to capture

the spirit of the Garth Ennis

version of Frank Castle: ultra violent, dark humor and self-parody.

This latest outing stars Ray Stevenson as The Punisher and he looks eerily similar to

the “real thing.”  His role contains few

lines and a few “emotional” moments that probably should have been cut, but aside

from that, Stevenson pretty much embodies

the role in every sense of the word.  He

is the Punisher that we’ve read for over 30 years: a grim reaper with an

ever-growing arsenal and ever inventive ways of killing criminals.

The film wisely provides no back

story for its title character, aside from a few flashback shots.  As the movie opens, we are thrown right into

the thick of the action.  The Punisher is

in the midst of carrying out his one man war against organized crime in New

York City.  The opening sequence has him

hacking and shooting his way through a mafia family with a cold and efficient

abandon.  The violence is intentionally

over the top and cartoonish with more of a slasher movie feel than an action

film.  Think Evil Dead II crossed with Death

Wish and you get the idea.  Those who

prefer their comic heroes to be deadly serious should stay at home.

The villains of the piece are

the usual wiseguy stereotypes, as it should be.

Punisher comics aren’t about layered characterization and depth.  Frank Castle kills criminals, period.   Anyone from a mugger on the streets the most

powerful of crime bosses.

On the acting front, Dominic West steals the show as Jigsaw, a pretty boy mobster whose face

is horribly disfigured after The

Punisher drops him into a glass grinder.

What makes the performance such a blast is that Dominic seems to be making it up as he goes along.  The character himself is a study in

irony:   He is hideously disfigured, and

yet he carries himself with the confidence and swagger of a flamboyant

pimp.  It’s like the accident unleashes

some sort of weird  self-caricature hidden

away in his subconscious.  In its own

way, the performance is just as much fun as what Heath Ledger did with The

Joker in The Dark Knight (though

nowhere near as brilliant or layered).Almost as much fun is Doug Hutchison as Jigsaws cannibal,

karate-fighting minion Looney Bin Jim.

Does any of this add up to a

cinematic masterpiece the likes of The

Dark Knight?  Nope.  Does it even add up to a legitimately good

movie?  Probably not, and that’s

fine.  Writer/Director Lexi Alexander likely realized as much

when she took on this project.  A Punisher

movie doesn’t need to be great, it just needs to deliver in the same sense that

the best Punisher comics have over the years.

The idea of a soldier becoming a ruthless vigilante had already been

done before The Punisher ever

existed.  The only thing that ever

distinguished Frank Castle from being

a garden variety vigilante was the skull on his chest.  Garth Ennis tweaked the character a bit by

adding a bit of humor to his grim world, and Lexi Alexander found a way to translate that sense of humor and

mayhem to the screen.  We should all be

thankful for that.  Welcome back Frank, indeed.

Jamie Foxx, WTF Were You Thinking? (you too, Lil Wayne!)

Hey everybody! Hope all is well. This week I came across a new joint that made my skin crawl. I am a true fan of R&B, and it just hurts my soul when older artists feel the need to try and keep up with today’s new artists. I agree that reinventing yourself is always a good idea to keep things fresh, but don’t lose yourself while making that transition. And I say all of that to say this, Jamie Foxx – WTF where you thinking? As I surfed a host of new tracks this week, I couldn’t help but stop and listen to the one labeled, Jamie Foxx ft/ Lil Wayne – “Number One”. I thought to myself, Jamie Foxx and Lil Wayne? This either going to be “hot like like fire” or “hot garbage”. So after hitting the play button, I took a deep breath and asked, WHY? How do you get two artists of this caliber on the same track and come up with such a bullsh*t ass song? The joint was even produced by Just Blaze, so that equates three hot people in the game that crafted together some pure bullsh*t. I mean come on! Some of you might say the beat is hot, but so f*ckin what?Earlier this week I highlighted Jamie Foxx in my Wednesday column “R&B Rewind”. I mentioned some of the accolades he’s achieved up until now, from his days as Wanda on In Living Color to scoring an Oscar for Ray, and how he put out his first album in 1994, Peep This. Jamie Foxx is a musical genius, so WTF happened with this song? He has two singles out right now, one featuring T.I. titled “Just Like Me” and another with Ne-Yo and Fabolous “She Got Her Own”. Both of those songs are hot and are a reflection of Jamie’s talent, while “Number One” is an example of what happens when a seasoned vet tried to keep up with the “in” crowd.I don’t expect Jamie Foxx to keep himself boxed up in a world of Urban Adult Contemporary Music, even if he is 42 years old. And I don’t expect him not to take advantage of the marriage between R&B and Hip-Hop, but if you’re going to do a joint with Lil Wayne it should be a hot one, because that is way too much talent in one room to go to waste.Jamie Foxx can sing just about anything and make it sound good, and if I’m not mistaken, I think I hear the Auto-Tune in this track. Why would a guy who can sing his ass off, and do genius things like sing “The Brady Bunch” theme (see the bonus track below) and make it sound like a R&B hit try and match the latest trend? I just don’t get it. Ok, now that I’m done venting about Jamie Foxx I’m going to end and say that I hope his new album goes in the direction of “Just Like Me” and “She Got Her Own’ and not “Number One”. I actually plan to attend a listening party for Jamie Foxx this week here in Chicago and I am seriously contemplating asking him, WTF was he thinking? This is definitely one of those tracks he’s going to look back at and ask himself, WTF. Yes, Jamie Foxx has achieved enough accolades over the years to call himself “Number One”, but this track definitely sits at the bottom of the list. Tell me what you think! Hot or Not?Well y’all thanks for taking time out to read what I had to say.Until next week check out this week’s Sunday Selection – “Number One”Number One feat. D’Angelo Manager Shoots Down Bad Boy Rumors

Despite rumors suggesting a signing with Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records, R&B crooner D’Angelo is remaining at his current record label AllHipHop.com has confirmed.

“While both gentlemen hold one another in the highest regard, the stories circulating in the press are totally false,” according to D’Angelo’s manager, Lindsay Guion.

Guion dismissed the hearsay and she confirmed that D’Angelo is signed to the RCA Music Group (J Records).

News of the vocalist’s label status comes as D’Angelo nears completion of his highly anticipated third album.

To date, he has recorded with Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip and Roy Hargrove.

A recently released single from the album, titled “I Found My Smile Again,” is available exclusively on iTunes.

Other collaborators expected to work with the singer on the album include Gnarls Barkley member Cee-Lo Green.

In recent years, D’Angelo has set the stage for his return to music by appearing on albums from Hargrove, Q-Tip, Snoop Dogg, Common and the late J. Dilla.

D’Angelo’s upcoming album is scheduled to be released in 2009.

88-Keys: The Death Of Adam (Album Review)

Who would’ve thought that playing the nice guy role would trigger a series of events that ultimately causes your demise? You meet a fly chic and treat her like royalty, only to discover she wants nothing more than a friendship. After taking a different approach of conquering the feminine jewel, the next girl you cut right to the score with literally becomes the death of you.

Producer 88-Keys details all that unfolds on his debut The Death Of Adam (Decon Records), a follow-up to his recent mixtape Adam’s Case Files. Executive produced by Kanye West, the album features appearances from a range of artists lending their signature delivery to the investigation leading to Adam’s downfall.

With each song lending a piece to the puzzle, “Morning Wood” starts Adam’s story as he recognizes what better way to kick start the day. After finding the right girl and treating her with class and style, he quickly realizes that “Nice Guys Finish Last” and he’s fallen into “The Friends Zone”. The latter is an up-tempo Rock song featuring Shitake Monkey, which shows the range used on the album while still keeping the storyline intact.

The lead single “Stay Up! (Viagra)” features Kanye. The mellow repetitious beat tells how Adam and the new girl he meets cut through all salutations. “There’s Pleasure In It” which features no vocals on the electric guitar and organ infused track, describes their first encounter.

“(Awww Man) Round 2?” follows and you immediately hear a familiarity to Kanye’s “Spaceship” from The College Dropout. This slightly takes the focus away from 88’s story and you begin to pay closer attention to his style.

“Dirty Peaches” features New Wave/R&B group J*Davey slows things down highlighting that this girl may have motives of her own. “The Burning Bush” showcases Redman at his best, telling of how Adam contracted a hot STD. Bilal lends his voice to “M.I.L.F.”, adding soul to the organ and bass tinged track, where a baby is now thrown into the pot of consequences.

Things close with “Another Victim” where Adam turns up dead and no one knows the who’s or what’s. More than just a great orchestrated concept album, 88 did pretty well going beyond production credits; although you can tell where Kanye laid a heavy hand on certain tracks.

Aside from the story, the best part of the album is that each artist gave their own account of the decisions made by the character Adam. Like the perfect wrap to a season finale, you’re left anxiously waiting for the next episode.

J-KWON IN JAIL?

J-Kwon…remember him? This guy was one of the youngest in charge back in the day, but something happened with his label situation. I think JD switched companies or something. Anyway, I heard the young Man that used to rap about being “Tipsy” and Hood-Hop is now in jail I am hearing. I heard this alleged incarceration is the result of selling drugs. I hope not…dude isn’t even 25 yet so he’s still got a lot of life ahead of him.

R.KELLY’S NEW GROUP?

Lisa, Kamaria and Martina. No? Caramel City ring a bell? Nope? OK, well I heard a rumor about these three ladies that they might be of interest to R.Kelly. now, you know the first thing I had to find out was, “How old are they?” They are 19, 20 and 23. So, that means Kellz can be “friends” with all of them should they like…well… anyway. Look out for them…they are from Canada…whether or not they are going to go with R. Kelly…who knows?

MY CANDIDATE FOR THE “BLACK” JAMES BOND

Sorry Diddy and Jamie Foxx. I hope to bear some influence here and I nominate Idris Elba as the new James Bond. Dude is real cool, a suave type of chap and he’s from the UK. Both men and women like dude. Not overused, but seasoned. Boom! Ok, powers that be…hear me now…IDRIS.

R.I.P to “Stringer” Bell for my real “Wire” heads.

SNOOP DOGG VS SPIDER LOC

Here is Snoop’s part.

Spider Loc responds: “Heavenly Father. I Ask That You Will Forgive Him. For He Know Not What He Do. The Moment I Tell A Lie About This Man. Please Allow Both My Daughters To Die.”

He shouldn’t have mentioned his daughters. He also mentioned, “Whoo Kid is a different type of n####. 50 don’t slap the s### outta that n####. Just call me when you need the soldiers to take care of that n####.”

RANDOM QUOTES

OJ Simpson on getting sentenced to 15 years in jail.

“I didn’t want to steal anything from anyone. … I’m sorry, sorry. I just wanted my personal things. I was stupid. I’m sorry. I didn’t know I was doing anything illegal. I thought I was confronting friends. I thought I was retrieving my things. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody and I didn’t mean to steal anything.” SMH.

A-Rod said he and Madonna are just friends (People magazine). Cut buddies…lol:

“We’re friends – we’re friends and that’s it. I’ve been to two of her concerts, yet I’ve read that I went to 20. I’ve also read that we were buying an apartment together. That is absolutely ridiculous and not true. You have to have a sense of humor when it comes to this stuff, if I answered every rumor we’d be here for three weeks.”

COLBERT…WOW…DARE I SAY “ETHERS” KANYE?

JEEZ, YEEZY!

Kanye is all the rage right now, but some poor fool of a fan decided to throw something on stage. And….Kanye did the right thing and cussed them out by saying “Eat s**t and die.” See the video below.

“Eat s**t and die” with the autotune…just doesn’t sound offensive. Why somebody would pay for tix only to mar the show, is beyond me.

OH BOY! Would you animals get on the net if there was no p###? Well, Dubya is trying to do a new internet. Not a bad idea for people with kids or Kirk Franklin, an admitted p### addict. SORRY!

From Raw Story:

The free Internet plan is the most controversial issue the agency will tackle in December. Mr. Martin shelved plans to consider a wider variety of sticky issues pending at the agency, including a request by the Hollywood studios to hobble TVs and set-top boxes so studios can offer copy-protected theatrical releases sooner.

The proposal to allow a no-s###, free wireless Internet service is part of a proposal to auction off a chunk of airwaves. The winning bidder would be required to set aside a quarter of the airwaves for a free Internet service. The winner could establish a paid service that would have a fast wireless Internet connection. The free service could be slower and would be required to filter out pornography and other material not suitable for children. The FCC’s proposal mirrors a plan offered by M2Z Networks Inc., a start-up backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers partner John Doerr.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Not sure if anybody cares about this, but Kid Sister’s new album, Dream Date has been pushed back to March 09. F a pimp, its hard out here for a rapper.

I got word back that 50’s show now comes on at 1 am on Friday night? Um, somebody is trying to say something or The Donald pulled some strings.

The U.S. economy has seen the loss of over a half a million jobs last month alone. It hasn’t been this bad for 30 years.

It looks like that Eminem/Dr. Dre song is a reference track for Detox. Will it make it to the album? Who knows! Its not a mystery that Em does a bit of writing for his mentor.

Eminem was seen earlier in the week on the set of his new video or a movie in Santa Monica. How about that album, bud? Here is the pic.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

Wow…I wonder what this woman will get for Mother’s Day? Maybe another term in jail? Sherri A. Feuston of Muncie, Indiana decided it was acceptable to 1) write the word b***h on her 9-year-old son’s forehead and 2) thought she could send him to school with the derogatory mark on his head. She allegedly used a crayon to do the deed and it was very visible to the teachers. It got the 30-year-old mother thrown in jail. The fourth-grader “snitched” (I’m kidding!) on mom and told police that his mother held him down and did the deed. Get this, her boyfriend held his feet. Another classic case of two adults conspiring to do something dumb as all hell. Where is the voice of reason? Feuston’s 11-year-old and 2-year-old daughters also saw it go down. Feuston was charged with neglect of a dependent, battery and criminal confinement. SMH.

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY

OJ Simpson is looking at 18 years in jail. SMH.

SHELZ RETURNS – NEWS, VIEWS AND RUMORS!

Aye…when Shelz isn’t writing crazy editorials, she throws a rumor/gossip in there. I’m cool with being No.2 since she does that rather well.

What do Luda, Jeezy and TIP have in common? Besides the Obvious…

They might be touring together in 2009. Per MTV, both Luda and Jeezy have mentioned that they would love to take it to the road with the King of the South. TIP had this to say about the idea:

“I’m definitely down to do it,” Tip said of the tour. “Those are definitely two people who are up there when you talk about Southern performers. I’m definitely open to do it. We just gotta figure out what makes the most sense as far as getting it done.”

Again with the TIP Stuff

He was on the Howard Stern Show yesterday. I’m not a huge fan of the show, and TIP put the giggles away and got real with Robin a couple of times when she swerved out of her lane. There were a couple things I found interesting though.

T.I said that he feels safer right now than he ever has before in his life because he is federally monitored daily. Are they afraid he’s going to run away? Why do the Feds follow this dude around especially since he still has the ankle bracelet on? And no matter how many questions Stern threw at him about getting at industry chicks; he never once mentioned he was married. Is he taking that Jay-Z route to marriage discussion; which is no discussion at all? Listen for yourself.

Damn If It Didn’t Happen

A Colbert Christmas is currently ranked #3 on i-Tunes top ten list. 808’s and Heartbreak has dropped to the #4 position. I guess Kanye now knows who the f*ck Stephen Colbert is and Stephen’s comical plea did not fall on deaf ears. Just in case you care, Akon is at #2 with Freedom and Britney Spears has taken the #1 spot with Circus. [Illseed note: I got my Colbert CD!]

AKON BALL GRABBER VID

YOUNG BUCK…DAMN IT MAN!

Steven Brown of Ocean Records wrote the following and boy is he mad at Buck. No edits were made to this:

I think Buck p##### a lot of folks off because cats walked out on his set..Not showing up for a scheduled in-store and leaving over 125 of his (former???) fans waiting outside in the cold for him for 4 1/2 hours just didnt go over well…Then to follow that up with a no show at a private party, a no show @ radio (he did call in later though- 1 hour plus later) & a no show @ a bar where he was also promoted to be appearing (leaving behind a decent chunk of change)..

Luckily the next day “Buck is ok to come and hang out and do whatever he needs to do to promote the show” he was gracious enough to attend a in-store that he was paid well to do. Then it was back to the hotel untill showtime.

Immediately after the show, he bails back to his hotel (which by the way was not where I reserved his rooms) to have a party & have all the ‘shawtys’ roll through, blowing off the scheduled afterparty @ boondocks.

So-lets see..

-My in store @ Ocean Records (I had to apologise to all the kids and give out FREE cd’s). e was tired and needed to get high! So much for the 100 Buck cd’s I ordered that he was going to sign for his fans!

-Private party for him @ a hotel where they gave me the banquet room FREE of charge in return for reserving 5 + rooms! He checked into another hotel (I had to apologise to the guests and hotel management)

-Blew off the promoted in studio interview (I had to apologise to DJ COD)

-Blew off the scheduled & promoted visit to a bar, leaving behins some money! (I had to apologise to the manager)

Next day- apologies from his manager!

Shows up to the in store..Does his thing!

Back to the hotel all day!

Does the show..

Blows off the official afterparty, leaving more money behind! (I had to apologise to the owner & security he hired to escort them into the club with front door valet.

So- 5 events that were scheduled he did a no show! Left over $2000 behind for simple appearnces that THEY asked me to arrange! I had to give out cd’s and apologise to all of my new connections I have been trying to build with. But hey..It’s all about that blunt, right?

Buck is a problem and he will be done soon I am sure…

OH YEAH!!!!! LOL!

When he calls in to do a recorded concersation (pun intended) his manager sends a text to me..Says-

“yo, buck just did the interview..He gave you a shout out”

So everyone @ the private party we held for him is listening and laughing at this dood! He shouts me out allright- “I gotta give it up to the promoter” “When my new cd drops, it will be at the promoters store” “Shout out to the promoter”…..THANKS my man!

Here is the funnies part…He tells everyone he will be making an appearance @ “Stars Nightclub in Bend, so come holla @ me”…The appearance he was speaking on was in Redmond @ The Fan!

Everyone said he sounded like a drunk and high fool and said he “really is confused” like he cried about to 50…Ay Fif…I know you read all my emails- you was right when you said dood doesn’t handle his business and only is concerned with getting high and drunk! But hey- he “was confused 50”

Diamond D., Fat Joe Speak On Death Of Rapper Party Arty

Even members of the Diggin’ In The Crates Crew, with whom South Bronx rapper Party Arty rose to prominence, were shocked today (December 5) to learn of the underground artist’s untimely death.

Arty, born Arthur Sheridan, passed away early yesterday afternoon (December 4) of unspecified health complications.

Both Fat Joe and legendary MC/producer Diamond D told AllHipHop.com that they were unaware of any illness from which the rapper, also known as P-80, may have suffered.

They both learned of his passing, as fans did, after a post from producer DJ Premier, who shared his condolences yesterday via his blog.

“I haven’t had a chance to speak to his family yet,” D.I.T.C. co-founder Diamond D told AllHipHop.com exclusively. “I’m going up [to New York] tomorrow. I didn’t know he was sick. I was shocked. To me, Arty definitely had that ruff gruffness about him. His rhymes was always on point. He was definitely one of the up-and-coming shining stars out of the South Bronx.”

As one half of the group Ghetto Dwellas alongside his partner D-Flow, Arty was strongly influenced by D.I.T.C.’s A.G, appearing on several of Show & A.G.’s albums in the mid to late 90s, including features on seven cuts on A.G.’s solo debut The Dirty Version in 1999.

He also collaborated with several member of the extended D.I.T.C. family including Fat Joe and the late Big L.

“I seen him at the Rock Steady Anniversary over the summer,” Fat Joe told AllHipHop.com. “We had a great time, he was in good spirits. He’s an underground king, a great rapper, and most of all one of the best people I’ve ever known. He was a great spirit, always had a happy vibe to him. He will be missed for sure.”

Party Arty saw a resurgence in popularity over the last couple of years, following a battle with Murda Mook captured by S.M.A.C.K. DVD, and promoted to legendary status via YouTube and the blogosphere.

His buzz even captured the attention of 50 Cent who, about a year ago, expressed interest in adding Arty to the G-Unit roster.

He made what would be his final appearance on a major release last month, contributing to D.I.T.C.’s latest offering The Movement.

MOVIE REVIEW: Cadillac Records

Cadillac

Records

really could have solely been the life story of blues legend Muddy Waters; or of

the feisty Etta James or even a whole depiction of the trials and tribulations

of Little Walter. However, the film takes on the arduous task of including all

of these artists and more while chronicling their rise to fame on Chess

Records. As a consequence, the two and a half hour film has a lot of ground in the

allotted time, however falls flat in its pursuit.

The

story revolves around the incomparable Waters, and his partnership with the

seemingly passionate Leonard Chess, who eventually spearheads a “race records”

label called Chess Records. We witness both of them at the beginning of their

careers: Muddy, in the fields singing spirituals with other field hands and

Leonard with the woman he wants to someday marry when his money is right, both with

dreams of a better life. Muddy had the innate talent and Leonard had the vision

to later form a historic lifetime bond.

Cadillac is

long on short artist vignettes, but short on the actual telling the creation of

the Chess empire; as soon as the label is created, we see almost immediate stardom.

In one scene, Leonard is struggling to pay his mortgage and in the next, he’s

putting the keys to a brand new Cadillac in the hands of his number one selling

artist. The how and why is what’s missing.

What

Cadillac Records does get right is

pay homage to the great musicians including Etta James, portrayed with vigor by

Beyonce Knowles, Chuck Berry, who’s played cheerfully by Mos Def, Little

Walter, over killed by Columbus Short and Cedric the Entertainer on screen as Willie

Dixon. The lack of storytelling is made up for with musical collaborations. The

studio sessions with Little Walter on harmonica and Muddy Waters on guitar

blend effortlessly, and are the most dynamic of the entire movie. They make you

fall in love with the blues. When you see Etta James behind the microphone

belting out “At Last,” you really do yearn for more.

The film never fully

examines these artists’ relationships, their insecurities or their immediate desire

to make music. Each musician is thrown onto the screen for a very short amount

of time with barely enough dialog and background for the audience to become

emotionally invested. Etta, like Chuck and even Howlin’ Wolf, just shows up one

day and signs to the label and becomes an instant crossover sensation. Who are

these legendary musicians, singers and dreadfully-depressed rock and rollers?

And why should we care? That’s never established and ultimately becomes the

main failing of the film.

The standout

performance comes from Gabrielle Union, who portrays Muddy Waters’ woman, whom

he meets on the streets of Chicago while playing outside her window. She

endures his years of womanizing and baby making without any resistance and

offers the most sincere portrayal of loyalty and submission. Her role was the

most authentic in the film and should be recognized as one of her best

performances to date. Forget playing the sexy siren, Union shines as the dotty

matriarch. When she cries, you feel her pain and when she smiles, you feel the

warmth.

The reasons to take

your parents to see this film are obvious; they’ll love being taken down memory

lane. Will you learn something about your past and these legendary artists? Not

necessarily. What you’ll come away with is an appreciation for beautiful new

shiny Cadillac’s, which are in a true abundance in this film. I don’t recommend

this film for all of the reasons stated earlier, but let it be known that Chess

Records was a vital part of our musical history and its beginnings on the south

side of Chicago make for an interesting start to a sacred bond between the

Blues and Hip-Hop. The struggle and the passion of these early musicians’ might

just prompt you to engage in a conversation with your elders over this holiday

season. And if, by chance, you want to spend some time talking about the blues,

spend $10 and take them to see Cadillac

Records, if for no other reason but to connect to our musical past.

DJ Vlad Talks Website, American Gangster Finale

Already a power player in the mixtape world, multi-faceted DJ Vlad has now set his sights on conquering the website and film markets.

In October DJ Vlad launched www.vladtv.com, an already fast growing Hip-Hop based video site birthed from the success of Vlad’s YouTube channel and website, Vladtv.com.

“Vlad TV as an entity has been around for about a year as a YouTube channel, and was quite frequently a top 100 channel,” DJ Vlad explained to AllHipHop.com. “With YouTube you have a very strict structure. Hip-Hop is a raw art form and a lot of time they don’t go along with that.”

Along with a 15-man brain trust, Vlad oversaw the inclusion of movie trailers, fights, models, sports, and general news to balance out the site’s Hip-Hop content.

Vlad also recently aligned with Complex in an advertising alliance.

While Vlad aims to keep the site diverse, he realizes that the direction of Vladtv.com rests with the viewers.

“Ultimately it’s the viewers who tell us what they want on there. We’re constantly experimenting with new types of footage and content,” Vlad told AllHipHop.com. “Sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t. [Regarding controversial content] if people’s feathers get ruffled sometimes, so be it. Doing this Hip-Hop s**t you have to put yourself on the front lines, basically not give a f*ck.”

Vlad ‘s talent as a director will be showcased in January 2009, when the season finale of BET’s America Gangster, which focuses on late Bay Area star Mac Dre and the infamous Romper Room Gang.

The DJ is hopeful viewer interest in the piece can spark an even bigger event, a feature length Mac Dre movie.

“I want to turn the Mac Dre story into a movie. The whole thing about the American Gangster is that the Romper Room Gang, Mac Dre’s crew, robbed like 50 banks,” Vlad revealed. “I’ve never sat around and waited for someone to make me an offer. If I were to do a Hollywood type movie, I’d do it myself.”

The American Gangster season finale premiers January 15.

UPDATE: Charges Against Suge Knight Tossed

Two felony drug charges and one misdemeanor assault charge against Marion “Suge” Knight were dismissed by a Las Vegas judge.

Prosecutors accused Knight, 43, of assaulting a female acquaintance named Melissa Isaac, on August 27, during a heated argument.

Knight was accused of striking Isaac, who was allegedly found by LVPD officers naked on the side of the road, as Knight stood over her with a knife.

The drug charges stemmed from allegations Knight was also in possession of ecstasy and hyrdocodone.

TMZ.com reports that Knight’s lawyers David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld were successful in getting all of the charges dismissed due to “lack of production in discovery and the failure of witnesses to be subpoenaed.”

“God is good, and I’ve got the best two lawyers in America. Happy holidays,” Knight said after learning the news.

The prosecution will now take the case to a grand jury.

DMX In Rehab; Judge Issues Arrest Warrant For Rapper

An arrest warrant has been issued for troubled rapper DMX, who missed a scheduled court appearance in Arizona today (December 5).

DMX was due in court today to face charges related to drug, identity theft and animal cruelty charges but missed the date, because he is currently in rehab at an undisclosed location.

A judge in Maricopa County has ruled that the rapper must post $120,000 cash bond or he will be arrested and held in jail. DMX, born Earl Simmons, faces a litany of charges, stemming from several different incidents.

The rapper is charged with one count of marijuana possession and four counts of drug paraphernalia possession, stemming from a raid of his Cave Creek, Arizona home last May.

He also faces seven misdemeanor animal-cruelty charges, in connection with an August raid of his home, in which deputies seized 12 pit bulls and pit bull mixes after receiving a report that the animals were being abused.

Producer Polow To Pay ‘Rent For A Year’ To ATL Resident

Polow Da Don and Zone 4, Inc. have extended the submission deadline for this year’s Free Rent For A Year contest due to the popularity and level of interest in the charitable endeavor, the label announced this week.

The essay competition, now in it’s second year, is open until January 1, 2009 at midnight to applicants 18 and over residing in the Atlanta Metropolitan area.

The Free Rent For A Year contest kicked off last Tuesday (November 25) during Zone 4’s second annual Give Thanks Carnival.

The early evening event created a family atmosphere complete with blow up games, pony rides, and performances and appearances by Zone 4’s roster of artists – Polow, Rich Boy, Keri Hilson, and i15 – as well as ColliPark Music’s Vistoso Bosses and V103 on-air personality Greg Street.

While the children were entertained, parents were treated to the opportunity to provide their families with a proper Thanksgiving meal despite the harsh economic client.

Over 600 turkeys were given away to the Southwest Atlanta community.

On the night of the Give Thanks Carnival, the Zone 4, Inc. staff and volunteers also registered over 200 individuals for the Free Rent for a Year.

“I already feel like I am a great producer, I aspire to be a great person with a great heart,” Polow Da Don told AllHipHop.com. “Inspired by my dad’s good nature and people like [Civil Rights leader] Hosea Williams, I want to make sure we around here 20 years from now still doing this.”

In January, the label’s top brass will select one winner from the submitted application essays describing why author should be considered for the grand prize.

The winner will have his/her rent or mortgage paid for the entire 2009 calendar year, with the payments going directly to the apartment facility or mortgage company.

Submission forms and contest rules for the Zone 4, Inc. Free Rent For A Year contest can be found at www.zone4inc.com/freerent.html.

Will Smith’s Red Pearl To Distribute Films In Middle East

Will Smith is taking his knack for success overseas, with a new venture involving his production company Overbrook Entertainment.

According to Variety, Overbrook has joined forces with D Media to launch Red Pearl Pictures, a new company that will distribute Western films throughout the Middle East.

Red Pearl joins a number of key Middle Eastern distributors that have existing deals with the U.S. studios and independents.

Red Pearl plans to have offices in Los Angeles and the Middle East in an effort to tap into the increased demand for entertainment in markets like Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

No other details concerning the new company were revealed by Overbrook and D Media.

Founded by Smith, Overbrook Entertainment is known for producing music, films, and television shows.

Movies credited to the company include the rapper/actor’s summer blockbuster Hancock as well as The Secret Life of Bees, Lakeview Terrace, I Am Legend and ATL, which stars rapper T.I.

Smith, along with Overbrook co-founder James Lassiter and President Ken Stovitz, will have his work cut out for him to establish Red Pearl’s presence in the Middle East.

The creation of the company comes as Hollywood struggles to find its place within the region.

While some 30 million people comprise the population of the Arab world, factors such as censorship, piracy and underdeveloped infrastructure have become obstacles in distributors and exhibitors taking advantage of the Middle East’s true box office potential.

Although Hancock grossed approximately $4.5 million in the Arab world, the amount was considered to be small compared to money the film made in other regions.
