(AllHipHop News) Hip Hop’s noted expansion into academia has included producer Patrick “9th Wonder” Douthit’s tenure as a teaching fellow at Harvard University’s Hip Hop Research Institute.

9th’s year at the Ivy League institution was captured on film by Emmy Award winner Kenneth Price in the documentary The Hip-Hop Fellow.

“I was curious about this field of Hip Hop studies,” said Price. “I wasn’t aware of the depth that was happening at these Ivy League schools, and was kind of amazed that no one had made a film of it yet.”

The 78-minute movie follows 9th as he instructs his “Standards of Hip-Hop” course, conducts research for his thesis, and examines Hip Hop history.

The film also features interviews with Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Kendrick Lamar, Young Guru, Dr. Mark Anthony Neal, Phonte, Dr. Marcyliena Morgan, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Ab-Soul, Rapper Big Pooh and DJ Premier.

The Hip-Hop Fellow will be screening at the Full Frame Documentary Festival Saturday, April 5th in Durham, North Carolina.
