(AllHipHop News) Grammy-nominated Hip-Hop legend Slick Rick is set for his “Victory Tour” celebrating his newly earned status as a U.S. citizen.
After a 23-year, drawn out legal process, fans, artists and critics can join in celebrating Rick’s citizenship on several previously announced dates, as well as several newly added cities (see below).
The “Victory Tour” begins with the Kentucky Derby Festival’s “Waterfront Jam” on Tuesday, May 3rd and then travels to several cities across the Midwest and South.
A homecoming show in New York City is in the works and details for the NYC show will be announced soon.
“I’m celebrating a new beginning and am thankful for the many blessings already coming my way,” said Slick Rick who was born a Brit before moving to the US at age 11.
“One is the blessing of doing what I do best – perform – to celebrate the victory of citizenship after living in this country for so many years. We will celebrate in style”
As a long-time resident of The Bronx, Slick Rick’s musical career took off at 18 years old fresh out of high school.
Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew took Slick under their wing and featured him on the Hip-Hop classics “The Show” and “La-Di-Da-Di.”
Known as MC Ricky D back then, the moment marked Rick’s introduction to the world as “the greatest story-teller.”
His debut album “The Great Adventures of Slick Rick” (Def Jam) was #1 on the R&B /Hip Hop chart and featured, “Children’s Story,” “Teenage Love,” and “Hey Young World.”
It followed with The Ruler’s Back (1991), Behind Bars (1994) and The Art of Storytelling (1999).
