Ex-New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez has been convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, CNN reports. The 25-year-old was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Hernandez was convicted of the murder of Odin Lloyd, who was the boyfriend of his fiancee’s sister. His body was found riddled with bullets in a Massachusetts industrial park in June of 2013. More than 130 witnesses testified against Hernandez.
Hernandez’s lawyer, James Sultan, said that his client witnessed the murder, committed by someone that he knew and instead of alerting the authorities he just went on with his life. The jurors obviously dismissed this claim.
The evidence found in Lloyd’s murder led to Hernandez being charged with two other murders in Boston. He has has pleaded not guilty and the trial is scheduled to begin at a later date after originally being slated to begin in May.
