Los Angeles hip-hop fans are in for a rare treat
on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, when the man that Rolling Stone magazine calls
"The Godfather of Hiphop," Afrika Bambaataa will spin a special set
at the town’s newest club, Zanzibar.
"Bam is the Godfather of hiphop and having
him on deck at Zanzibar is going to be off the hook," Zanzibar’s booker
Cary Sullivan told AllHipHop.com.
The Source magazine recently bestowed their highest
honor upon Afrika Bambaataa, the esteemed "Pioneer Award" in recognition
of the wide influence his work has had upon all genres of music.
In a career that spans over 20 years, Afrika
Bambaataa has worked with James Brown, Leftfield, George Clinton, Sting, Bill
Laswell, Bootsy Collins, Jungle Brothers, Sly & Robbie, UB40 and Boy George,
to name but a few.
Afrika Bambaataa collected records from a very
early age and by 1970 (at the age of 10) he was already deejaying at house parties.
The artist’s incomparable talent behind the ones and twos are not to be
missed at this exclusive appearance at Zanzibar.
Zanzibar is one of Los Angeles’ new DJ/Dance
