Metro Boomin even co-signed the revamped Savage Mode II [Chopped Not Slopped] by shouting out OG Ron C and the ChopStars on “Purple Savage Mode II Intro.” Ron C wrote on Instagram, “Big s/o to my boi @metroboomin @21savage for helping us keep the slowed culture alive. DJ Screw is credited as the founder of the remixing technique known as “Chopped & Screwed.” The Texas legend died at the age of 29 in 2000, but his musical contribution continued to be part of Hip Hop well beyond his death as variations of his “chopped up” style was picked up by other creators.

Savage Mode II was already a commerical success. The sequel to 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s 2016 collaborative EP debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 171,000 first-week units. This week, they fell to #2 behind Pop Smoke’s Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon. Thirteen songs from Savage Mode II charted on Billboard‘s Hot 100.
