Chris Brown Backs T-Pain After Tensions With Drake Erupt

Chris Brown

Chris Brown publicly praised T-Pain as a generational icon, just as T-Pain’s remarks about Drake ignited debate.

Chris Brown gave T-Pain a public salute over the weekend via Instagram, calling him a “pioneer” and one of the greatest of all time just as T-Pain’s name was trending for his pointed remarks about Drake.

“RANDOM THOUGHT… T-Pain is one of the goats of my generation!!” Brown wrote in his Instagram Story. “GIVING YOU YOUR FLOWERS!!! PIONEER LOVE YOU MY BROTHER.” He capped the message with a red heart emoji.

T-Pain Says Drake Refuses To Take His Own Advice To Bow Out Gracefully

The timing of Brown’s praise wasn’t lost on many, as it landed days after T-Pain stirred up conversation during an appearance on the Crash Dummies podcast, where he critiqued Drake’s artistic choices and questioned his consistency with his own past statements.

“One thing I learned from Drake, here’s the crazy thing, the one thing I learned from but one thing he hasn’t followed—his own words—Drake said, ‘I want to be one of those people that gracefully bow out and not get kicked out,’” T-Pain said.

T-Pain explained that he took those words seriously and intentionally slowed down his musical output. But in his view, Drake has done the opposite.

He didn’t hold back as he continued, suggesting Drake had become the very kind of artist he once said he wouldn’t be.

“And I learned that from him,” T-Pain said. “I’m not trying to impress y’all n#####. Y’all n##### don’t give a f### if I live or die! Why the f### would I keep trying to impress y’all n#####? I’m out!”

Drake responded to the podcast clip on Instagram with a short but pointed message.

“This guy always had resentment for me,” he wrote alongside a crying laughing emoji. “You can hear it every time he speaks on my name.”

Though Brown didn’t mention Drake directly, his post was seen by many as a gesture of solidarity with T-Pain during the back-and-forth.
