Legendary Hip-Hop producer DJ Premier of Gang Starr will take part in the annual Hip Hop Leaders Conference (HHL), which will be held August 8-12 on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles.
DJ Premier, along with Spinderella, Mad Mike (Pimp My Ride), Ryan Ford (The Source), Aloe Blacc and others will motivate various at risk teens to pursue a college education and explore technology careers using Hip-Hop culture as a tool to inspire.
The week-long Hip Hop Leaders Conference targets teens ages 14-18 and is sponsored by Washington D.C. non-profit, 1600 Avenue.
“We are utilizing all the positive elements of Hip-Hop to affect change,” HHL founder Frank Satterwhite told AllHipHop.com. “We are fortunate that such people and entities of note, join us in our on-going mission.”
Sponsors of the Hip Hop Leaders Conference include Zune, Scion, Red Bull, New Era, Galpin Auto Sports, Scratch Academy and others.
“Technology provides the greatest opportunities for at-risk youth to have the quality of life everyone deserves,” Satterfield said. “People talk about the American Dream, but real talk is technology, technology is the blue print. Minorities are significantly underrepresented in the U.S. Technology Industry. With such under-representation there are fewer qualified people able to work in the high-tech industry, effectively putting our nation behind such countries as India and China. This needs to change. I’m going to show our at-risk youth that as a technical subject matter expert, they can be in the same tax brackets as some of their favorite athletes, doctors, lawyers, and Hip-Hop artists. Our children can be valuable assets to society here and keep America Strong internationally.”
